课时作业8讠
A(记叙文)
Finns love to read. It's their favorite
thing to do in their time off.The country is a
little smaller than Montana, but its library
network is extensive, with hundreds of cen-
tral libraries, branch libraries and mobile li-
braries.
I was two years old when my family set-
tled in Porvoo,a small city of around 50,000
people about an hour away from the capital,
Helsinki. One thing it didn't have were books
in my family's language-my first language,
Albanian.I can't say that I was ever encour-
aged to pick up a book.We didn't do that in
my family. But once I learned how to read
Finnish,I never stopped,becoming a fre-
quent sight at the small school library.
I was 10 years old when the new building
of the main library of Porvoo opened its doors
to the public. When I visited for the first
time,I was so in awe that I cried. It was the
most beautiful thing I had ever seen:endless
shelves carrying tens of thousands of books,
records,movies,magazines and newspapers.
And the best part was that everything was free.
I rarely,however,borrowed a book,and
if I did,I kept it hidden.To this day,I don't
know why that was, exactly -why it felt
wrong and scary somehow to bring books
home with me.Maybe I wanted to keep books
to myself,a secret of some kind.Or perhaps I
was just scared that something would happen
to the books if they were somewhere they didn't
seem to belong. But unlike the real world, books
never distressed me -even crime, horror and
thriller titles-and I read everything.I would
pick up a book from the shelf, sit down at a table,
read, then return the book to its place and contin-
ue the next day from where I'd left off.
I spent as much time as I could in the
new library-falling in love with books and
stories and the Finnish language, gaining con-
fidence as a speaker and as a child of immi-
grant parents, and dreaming of writing a book
of my own one day, slowly growing from a
reader to a writer.

B(记叙文)
In her tiny but cozy Athens apartment,a
93-year-old Greek woman whose name is lo-
anna Matsouka has knit thousands of brightly
coloured scarves for children in shelters from
Greece to Ukraine-and she has no plans to
quit just yet."I will continue knitting until I
die,and it brings me joy to share my crea-
tions,"Matsouka declared,her knitting nee-
dles clicking rhythmically through her skilled
fingers.Since she accidentally took up knit-
ting in the early 1990s,Matsouka has crafted
over 3,000 scarves.
In the hallway by the door, shopping
bags filled with her latest creations await their
new home.An old,self-knitted patchwork(
blanket is thrown casually over the sofa
where she spends her days.Initially,the
scarves were gifts for friends. As the stock
grew, they were donated to children's shel-
ters across Greece. Then they reached chil-
dren in Bosnia and Ukraine. The latest batch
of 70 scarves went to a refugee camp near
Athens this winter,via the U.N.refugee a-
gency,UNHCR.
"The fact that we give scarves away
gives her strength,"said her daughter Ange-
liki. She recounted drawings and mails her
mother has received over the years:"Thank
you...Be well...Keep going...You gave
6
joy to children...You gave joy to people...
That's her only reward -a letter,a few
words..”
Sadly,Matsouka's vision is impaired and
she suffers from bouts of severe facial pain,a
condition known as trigeminal neuralgia(三叉
神经痛).Despite this,Matsouka still keeps
knitting one scarf a day, with small imperfec-
tions.Every morning,she wakes up,drinks a
glass of warm milk, puts on her pearl ear-
rings and quietly gets to work till a break for
lunch and a nap.
Angeliki describes her mother,who
painstakingly knits into the night,as a living
example of resilience and optimism."She once

In 2023 the Falcon 9 launched over a
thousand tonnes of payload into orbit. The
first stages of the Falcon 9 have been success-
fully reused after returning from space and
landing themselves more than 300 times.
&
“Reentry'”by Eric Berger,the senior space
editor at Ars Technica, describes how this was
achieved. The ingredients which produced the Fal-
con 9 were excellent engineers,a new form of
government support for spaceflight,a hard-driving
culture and an extraordinarily demanding boss.
The book starts with a story in 2008.
SpaceX's first rocket,the Falcon 1,was
small,troublesome and uncommercial.By the
time it finally reached orbit-on the fourth
attempt -SpaceX had burned through al-
most all the money that Elon Musk, the
company's founder,had available.For the com-
pany to have a future,it needed some big govern-
ment contracts, and that required a much larger
launcher:the Falcon 9,which required nine of the
Merlin engines that powered the Falcon 1 to be
joined together.
That challenge fell to Tom Mueller,
SpaceX's first employee,who had developed
the Merlin engine in the first place. His
team's efforts led to the arguably company-
saving first test firing of the Falcon 9's first
stage in November 2008."We were out there
beating history, but Elon was still pissed at
us,”Mr Mueller said..“Like everything else
we've ever done,it was way slower than Elon
wanted.”
Mr Berger's book is full of stories of im-
pressive achievements being met in such
ways.It also shows clearly why people put up
with such things.Mr Musk's employees knew
that he really cared about making better rock-
ets,and that he was taking big financial
risks. But they came to value his insistence on
the overall goal of making a rocket that was
largely reusable.
8.What is“Reentry”about?
A.The process of reusing the Falcon 9.
B.Achievements made by the government.
C.The personal life of the demanding boss.
D.Elements leading to the Falcon 9's suc-
cess.
9.What can we learn from Paragraph 3?

C.The Falcon 9 cost all the company's
money.
D.SpaceX has a future without government's
support.
10.What does the underlined phrase "pissed
at"in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Mad at.
B.Content with.
C.Sad about.D.Moved by.
11.Which of the following best describes Mr
Musk from the text?

With the rapid development of artificial
intelligence,DeepSeek,a Chinese AI compa-
ny,has emerged as a pioneer in educational
technology.Its latest model,DeepSeek-R1,
combines advanced machine learning methods
to provide personalized learning solutions for
students worldwide.
Unlike traditional AI models that rely on
pre-programmed answers,DeepSeek-R1 uses
reinforcement(强化)learning to simulate hu
man reasoning. This allows it to guide students
through problem-solving step by step,much like a
patient tutor.For example,when a student strug-
gles with a math equation,DeepSeek-R1 doesn't
just give the answer;it breaks down the logic,
identifies errors,and encourages critical thinking.
The model's applications extend beyond
academics.In language learning,it analyzes
students'pronunciation through Al speech
recognition and offers real-time feedback.For
teachers,DeepSeek-R1 can generate lesson
plans aligned with curriculum standards and
even predict students'learning difficulties
based on historical data. Its "adaptive testing"
feature creates customized quizzes that adjust
difficulty according to individual progress.
2:
However,challenges remain.Critics ar-
gue that over-reliance on AI might reduce hu-
man interaction in education.DeepSeek's de-
velopers address this by emphasizing its role
asa“supplement,not a replacement.”As
Dr.Li,a DeepSeek researcher,stated,"Our
goal is to free teachers from repetitive tasks
so they can focus on inspiring creativity."
Looking ahead,DeepSeek aims to integrate
virtual reality (VR)into its platform,allowing
students to explore historical events or scientific
concepts in immersive 3D environments.While
ethical debates about Al in education persist, one
thing is clear:tools like DeepSeek are reshaping
how we learn, blending technology with human
wisdom.
12.What makes DeepSeek-R1 different from
traditional AI models?
A.It uses pre-programmed answers.
B.It focuses on memorization techniques.
C.It replaces teachers in classrooms.

graph 3 most likely means
A.fixed
B.adjustable
C.complicated D.outdated
14.What can be inferred about DeepSeek's fu-
ture plans?
A.VR technology will enhance interactive
learning.
B.It will eliminate all classroom activities.
C.It prioritizes profit over educational val-
ues.
D.Teachers will lose their jobs to Al.
15.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To advertise DeepSeek products.
B.To criticize the risks of Al in schools.
