Many people think money is very important. It can buy food, clothes and many other things we need in our daily life. But money is not everything in the world.
Lisa is a 14-year-old middle school student. She gets some pocket money every month from her parents. She doesn’t spend all of it. She saves most of her money in her money box. Sometimes she uses a little money to buy interesting books or small gifts for her family on special days.

Lisa says, “Money helps us live well, but it cannot buy true love, health or happiness. When I give small gifts to my mum and dad, I don’t spend much money, but they are really happy. The love behind the gift is more valuable.”

Digitising a site
More than fifty years ago, archaeologists began to record the relics they found. They wrote in notebooks and drew by hand. While this method was careful, it was slow, and some of the information was hard to share.
Today many sites are digitised. High-resolution cameras and 3D scanners build a model of every object in a few hours. Since the work started in 2015, more than 20,000 relics have been modelled, and a student at school can look at them on a screen.
Digitising helps in two ways. First, the model never breaks. Second, the same model can be used in a classroom, on a phone and in a museum. A student who cannot visit the site can still study it.
However, technology cannot replace people. A machine may measure a bronze mask, but only a person can ask why it was made. The past needs both a scanner and a story.
1.What problem did the old method of recording have?
A.It was slow and hard to share. B.It was too accurate.
C.It cost too little. D.It needed no notebooks.
2.When did the digitising work start?

Meteoritic Iron Object Found at Sanxingdui
In May 2026, a team of archaeologists from Sichuan University and the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute made an important discovery at the Sanxingdui site. They found a small iron object in No. 7 sacrificial pit that turned out to be made of meteoritic iron.
The object, which is about 7 centimetres long, was initially thought to be an ordinary piece of iron. However, after careful analysis using pXRF technology, the researchers discovered that it contained high levels of nickel—a metal that is common in meteorites but rare in Earth’s rocks.
“This is the first time we have found meteoritic iron in the Sanxingdui site,” said Dr. Wang, the lead researcher. “It shows that the people of the Shu Kingdom had advanced metalworking skills more than 3,000 years ago.”
The discovery has been published in the journal Asian Archaeology. It has attracted widespread attention from historians around the world. Many experts believe this find could change our understanding of ancient Chinese technology.
The Sanxingdui site was first discovered in the 1920s. Since then, it has produced thousands of precious artifacts, including bronze masks, jade objects, and gold items. This latest discovery makes the site even more important.

Well, many people have these kinds of experiences. They are feeling social anxiety (社交焦虑). People with social anxiety may easily communicate with intimate ones, like their family members and old friends. But meeting new friends and talking in public can make them very shy and nervous. A recent survey showed that about 45 per cent of the 1,560 interviewees said they experienced social anxiety.
Stefan G. Hofmann, an expert from Boston University, the US, said that social anxiety is probably “a result of the fear that we will not be welcome”. For Chinese kids, there’s another reason for their anxiety. Shu Man from East China Jiaotong University said, “Most of them are the only child in their families, so they don’t have many chances to practice their social skills.”
But how to be social and improve your social skills? People can follow these methods. Firstly, work on self-worth. Stop thinking of things that make you down. Do your best to stop comparing yourself with others. Secondly, start smiling and use welcoming body language. Remember to give others a hug when you meet them. Sleep is very important for teenagers. However, a recent survey shows that more than 60% of Chinese teenagers do not get enough sleep on school days.
The survey, which was conducted by a health organization, asked 5,000 students aged 12 to 18 about their sleep habits. The results were worrying. On average, junior high school students sleep only 7.2 hours a night, while the recommended amount for teenagers is 8 to 10 hours.
▲ About 45% of students said they stayed up late to do homework. Another 30% said they used their mobile phones in bed before falling asleep. Some students also mentioned that stress and worry about exams kept them awake at night.
Lack of sleep can cause serious problems. Students who don’t sleep enough often find it hard to concentrate in class. They may also feel anxious and get sick more easily. Over time, poor sleep can even lead to mental health problems such as depression.
Experts suggest that students should try to go to bed before 10 p. m. They also advise parents to limit their children’s screen time in the evening. “Good sleep is not a waste of time,” said Dr Wang, a sleep expert. “It is the foundation of good health and academic success.”

When Rui joined the school craft group, she thought traditional puppets looked old-fashioned. Her grandfather had performed with them for years, but Rui preferred short videos and computer games. One weekend, she helped at a small show in the community hall. A little boy sat quietly at the back until Rui let him move a puppet’s hand. His face lit up.
Rui began asking her grandfather how each puppet was made. She learned to choose light wood, paint clear expressions and move the strings with care. Later, she invited classmates to write short stories for a school performance. Rui did not try to copy her grandfather’s show. She used a story about a robot who learns to care for an old tree.
The performance drew a large audience. Rui was proud, but she said the best result was that several students asked to join the group. “A tradition stays alive when young people take action and add their own ideas,” she said.

It’s reported that more than 450 million Chinese have myopia. Around 30 percent for primary school students, 60 percent for junior high students and 80 percent for senior high students are nearsighted. Maybe this is because students spend a lot of time reading books and using electronic products such as computers, phones and so on.
Parents might have tried to do something to solve the problem. For example, they take their children to get eye massages or take some medicine. People who offer these services or products often promise that they can cure myopia.
However, you will no longer see advertisements like this before long. The government has made a notice to stop this kind of advertisements. The notice stops businesses from using words like “recovery” and “myopia cure” in their advertisements. Because if people have myopia, it is not easy to be fully cured by medical technology now.
To reduce myopia among young people, the government made a new plan last August. The plan limits not only the time children play video games but also the production of new video games.
Young people can control myopia by spending more time outside and less time in front of books or computers. People who have eyesight problems should go to a hospital and let a doctor decide what to do.

Money is part of everyday life. We use it to buy food, clothes, and all kinds of things. But have you ever stopped to think about what money really means?
For some people, money seems to be everything. They work hard to earn more and more, yet they never feel satisfied. They forget that there are things money can’t buy — like true friendship, good health, and the love of family.
For others, money is simply a tool. They use it to get what they need and, when they can, to help others. They understand that money can make life easier, but it can’t create happiness on its own. For them, money serves a purpose — it doesn’t rule their lives.
There’s an old saying: “Money spent comes back; money saved stays.” The point is that money flows through our lives, but the important things — the people we love and the values we hold — remain constant.
So how do we develop a healthy attitude towards money? Here are three ideas.
First, save something every month, even if it’s a small amount. It builds up over time and gives you a safety net.
Second, think before you buy. Ask yourself: “Do I really need this?” You’ll be surprised how often the answer is no.
Third, give when you can. Sharing with others often brings more happiness than spending on yourself.
Money isn’t the most important thing in life. What truly matters is how you use it — to live well, to help others, and to make a difference.

A.Money can buy everything.
B.There are things more important than money.
C.Money is the key to happiness.
D.Only rich people can be happy.
2.What does the saying “Money spent comes back; money saved stays” suggest?
A.Money is more important than anything.
B.You should never spend your money.
C.Saving money is a waste of time.
D.Money flows through life, but important things remain.
3.What does the author suggest as the third way to develop a healthy attitude towards money?
A.Give to others when you can.
B.Think before you buy something.
C.Save some money every month.
D.Earn as much money as possible.
4.What is the author’s attitude towards money?
A.Money is the most important thing.
B.Money should never be spent on yourself.
C.Money is a useful tool, not the goal of life.
D.Only poor people understand the value of money.
5.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To tell people how to get rich quickly.
B.To discuss what money really means and how to use it wisely.
C.To compare the lives of rich and poor people.
D.To share a story about a generous person.
Paper can be seen everywhere in our life and we cannot study and work without it. Do you know who invented paper? It was created in China, yet there is no one knows exactly about who first invented it. However, according to historical records, it was improved by a man named Cai Lun from Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25—AD 220).

In that period, he always wanted to create something soft and easy to write. Inspired by women who raised silkworms, he tried to make paper, using many materials such as bark, ropes and rags. He broke these raw materials down into very small pieces and produced a kind of paper at last. Cai’s way of making paper improved the quality of paper greatly. Cai Lun got praised by the Emperor He of Han as soon as he showed his way to make paper to the emperor. And this kind of paper was called Cai Hou Paper.
Cai Lun not only made new paper a popular and widely used writing material but also changed the way of writing, which had a great influence on later generations and Cai Hou Paper was one of the most important contributions of Chinese civilization to the world.

When people enjoy the moon on the Mid-Autumn Festival, an ancient poem, Prelude to Water Melody, is often read. The story of the poem dates back to the Mid-Autumn Festival in 1076. Su Shi, a great writer of the Song Dynasty, couldn’t sleep that night. For seven years, he had been separated from his brother. Looking at the moon and thinking of his brother, he wrote the poem. Here are some famous lines.
Men have sorrow and joy, they part or meet again;
The moon is bright or dim and she may wax (月满) or wane (月缺).
There has been nothing perfect since the olden days.
So let us wish that man will live long as he can!
Though miles apart, we’ll share the beauty she displays.
In the first two lines, the writer compares the life of a man to the changing face of the moon. In Chinese culture, a full moon symbolizes perfection and getting together. When the moon is round and fair but people are separated from their loved ones
Before the comparison, Su Shi complains (抱怨) about the “ruthless (无情的)” moon and asks her, “Why when people part, are you often full and bright?” However, he soon realizes that no one has an easy ride, just like the moon may not always be bright. That’s why the poet says “There has been nothing perfect since the olden days”.
But should we stand still with things that we can’t make a difference? Su Shi gives his answer: Change your mind and stay positive. So, we have the last line of the poem. The poet hopes people can avoid losing in the sadness of life and instead enjoy the fact that no matter where they are, as long as the ones they love and miss are healthy and happy, they all can admire the same moon and share this beauty.

A.In 1990. B.In 2015. C.In 1974. D.In 2020.
3.What is the second advantage of digitising?

B.The model is always broken.
C.The machine asks the questions.
D.The site becomes smaller.
4.What does the writer say about machines?
A.They can replace people completely.
B.They can measure but cannot ask why.

“We still have a lot to learn about the people who lived here,” said Dr. Wang. “Every new discovery brings us closer to understanding their world.”

1.According to the passage, what do some people forget about money?

Men have sorrow and joy, they part or meet again;
