Samuel lived in a small village near a big mountain. He was an ordinary man, but he had big dreams and a heart full of hope. Even if life was not easy for him, he always believed hard work could change everything.
Every day, Samuel looked at the mountain. It stood high and strong, making him want to be strong too.
One day, Samuel decided to climb the mountain. The villagers laughed at him. “You can’t do it” they said. However, Samuel didn’t let their mockery (嘲笑) stop him. With strong determination, he began his journey up the mountain.
The path was tough, with steep slopes (山坡), slippery rocks, and unpredictable weather making the journey rather dangerous. Samuel fell lots of times. His leg hurt and he felt very tired, but he didn’t give up.
On the way, Samuel met other travelers. They helped each other. Soon, they became friends, cheering each other up and sharing stories of their hard times and successes. Their friendship made them all stronger.

Every time you send an email, a message, a photo or post something on the internet, you save paper. However, you leave behind your digital carbon footprint.
You may think that the internet has no effect on the physical world, but we store all the information on different websites, apps and social media on computer servers (服务器). They use lots of electricity. At the same time, they need to be cool, so we use more electricity to keep the temperature low. However, the production of electricity increases our carbon footprint and heats up our earth.
All information, pictures and music on the internet travel in small packets called data (数据). So when we do an online search, the question we have put into the computer becomes data. The computer sends this data to the servers. They then process the question and send it back to our computers as data. The faster the search engine (引擎 ) works, the bigger the use of electricity. We use the most electricity when we watch a video online. This is because a lot of data travels to and from the server.
Different kinds of technology need different amounts of electricity to work. For example, mobile phones use electromagnetic waves. These waves need more energy to move through buildings, bad weather and even plants. So again, the use of electricity is bigger. Cloud computing also uses a lot of energy because instead of saving your material on your computer, you store it on the server. So again, more data travels between the servers and the computers, using large amounts of energy.
One way to stop this waste is to always update your apps or software. For example, an old word processing tool needs four times more energy to work than a new one. Another way is to think before we see a film online: do you really need to see it for the tenth time?
31.In what way do we leave behind a digital carbon footprint?
A.By using the internet. B.By producing electricity.
C.By keeping the servers cool. D.By saving plenty of paper in daily life.
32.Why does watching a video online use much electricity?
A.It makes the search engine stop working. B.Lots of data travels to and from the server.
C.Many questions are put into the computer. D.It makes the temperature of servers drop quickly.
33.What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A.Much data uses large amounts of energy.
B.Cloud computing uses more energy than mobile phones.
C.Mobile phones and cloud computing both increase energy use.
D.Different technologies use different amounts of electricity.
34.What can reduce our digital carbon footprint?
A.Using the latest apps or software. B.Seeing a film online many times.
C.Working with an old word processing tool. D.Storing your films in the cloud.
35.Which would be the best title for the text?
A.How to Save Paper in Daily Life B.The Hidden Environmental Cost of the Internet
C.Ways to Make Servers Work Faster D.Why Cloud Computing Is Better than Local Storage
Have you ever dreamed of flying in a hot air balloon? Hot air balloons are not only beautiful but also amazing flying machines. 36 Let’s discover the secrets of how they work!
A hot air balloon has three main parts: the balloon (called the envelope), the basket, and the burner. The envelope is made of strong, light material. 37 The basket carries the pilot and passengers, while the burner sits above the basket.
So how does a hot air balloon fly? It’s all about hot air! When the pilot turns on the burner, it heats the air inside the envelope. 38 That’s why the balloon begins to rise up into the sky.
39 When the pilot wants to go higher, they make the air inside hotter. When they want to come down, they let some hot air out through an opening at the top. The balloon then becomes cooler and heavier, so it goes down slowly.
Flying in a hot air balloon is a peaceful experience. Unlike airplanes, hot air balloons move silently with the wind. 40 That’s why many people choose to fly in hot air balloons during sunrise or sunset to enjoy the most beautiful views.
A.It can be as tall as a five-story building!
B.Pilots can control the balloon by changing the air temperature.
C.They were invented over 200 years ago in France.
D.You can see amazing views of cities, mountains, and rivers from high above.
E.Hot air is lighter than cold air, so it floats upward.

These days, DeepSeek has received a lot of attention on the Internet. So what is DeepSeek? It’s a Chinese AI company founded (创立) by a man called Liang Wenfeng on July 17th, 2023. The team of researchers have studied in the top universities in China and have no overseas (海外的) educational background, and most of them are under 34 years old. They are also very good at math, physics and coding (编程). The company works on AI, especially big models (模型). Think of it like building a super smart brain that can think and solve problems like humans (this is called AGI).
On January 20th, 2025, DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. It can help people find information and summarize it, solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT-40. The whole world was completely surprised, because it cost much less to build. It only took the team about $5.58 million (1/70 of OpenAI’s cost) and about 50000 computer chips (芯片), and 647 days to create it. This shows that good ideas can beat big money. On its first day online, over 19000 programmers around the world started projects to study it. Even a top scientist in Meta (a famous US tech company) said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
As a DeepSeek engineer said, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.” With R1, China tells the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.
46.Who was DeepSeek founded by?
47.Why were people all over the world surprised after DeepSeek-R1’s birth?
48.How long did the DeepSeek team spend in creating DeepSeek-R1?
49.What does the success of DeepSeek-R1 show us?

beautiful美丽的,形容词原级;more beautiful更美丽的,形容词比较级;most beautiful最美丽的,形容词最高级;the most beautiful最美丽的,形容词最高级前加the。
around周围;for为了;up向上;down向下。 故选A。
故选A。

As Samuel climbed higher, the air got thinner, and the challenges grew harder. Samuel felt tired and scared. “Maybe I should stop,” he thought. But then, he remembered his dream. “I must try” he told himself. With that thought, he moved on, bit by bit.

根据下文的“Look at your phone: the time on the screen...”
根据“all use Arabic numerals to store...”
根据“each is a special...that’s easy to write and understand”和首字母s可推知,此处是指每个数字都是一个特殊的符号。
根据“how many places use these numerals”和首字母n可推知,此处是指注意有多少地方使用这些数字。

固定搭配spend time (in) doing sth.,表示“花费时间做某事”,介词in后面接动名词,因此work变为working。
