Zhong Yang was a great seed scientist in China. When he was young, he showed great curiosity for science. He entered university at 15. Later, he became a professor at Fudan University.
When he found there was little research on Xizang’s plant seeds, he decided to go there himself starting in 2001. The environment was terrible: cold weather, high mountains and thin air. Sometimes he fell ill, but he never gave up.
Besides collecting seeds, he started programs to train local young students to become scientists. Together with his team, they collected more than 40 million seeds of over 1,000 plant kinds.
