Fashion designer Suzanne Lee has always loved materials like cotton, silk, and so on. But after meeting a biologist, she discovered a new material—Microbial Cellulose Fabric (微生物纤维素织物).
Step
Make about 30L of hot tea, and put some sugar into it.
Let the tea cool down to under 30℃. Then add microbes (微生物).
Microbes eat the sugar and make tiny cellulose fibers (纤维素纤维). In three days, bubbles show up on the water surface, which means microbes are working well.
Two to three weeks later, a piece of film grows on the top of the tea.
Take the thick film out, wash it with cold water, and put it on a wooden board to dry.
The dry film becomes tight and turns into soft thin paper-like cloth material.
This new eco-friendly material can be of great use. People can color it naturally with fruit and vegetables, and it can take in water well. With this new way, people can cut down waste and reuse leftover sugar from food factories. This microbial material will not take the place of cotton or leather, but it is a good, green and new resource. In the future, people may even use this technology to make lamps, chairs and houses.
21. If someone finds a piece of film growing on the top of the tea, what is the next step?
A. Cool the tea and add new microbes to the tea.
B. Take out the film, wash it and dry it.
C. Add more sugar to the sweet tea.
D. Wait for more bubbles to show up.
22. What can people use to color the microbial cellulose material?
A. Fruit and vegetables. B. Hot tea and sugar.
C. Wooden boards. D. Cotton and silk.
23. Where is this passage most probably from?
A. A sports news website. B. A science and fashion magazine.
C. An ancient history textbook. D. A children’s fairy tale book.

(Roz, a robot on the island, caused a terrible accident by mistake, so the gosling (小鹅) was separated from its parents. Roz had to carry the little gosling around.)
Usually, the forest animals would have run away from Roz. But they were very curious why she was carrying a gosling on her shoulder. And once Roz explained the situation, the animals actually tried to help. A frog pointed Roz up to the squirrels. A squirrel recommended that she speak with the magpies (喜鹊). And then a magpie sent them over to the pond. And there, they saw an old gray goose floating in the center of the pond.
“A very good morning to you!” said the robot in a friendly voice. “I have a lovely little gosling with me!”
The goose just stared.
“I am in great need of your help!” said Roz. “Actually, the gosling is in need of your help!”
The goose didn’t move.
“Food!” peeped (叽叽叫) the gosling. “Food! Food!”
That tiny voice was more than the old goose could stand, and she began gliding (滑行) across the pond and called out to the robot, “What are you doing with that hungry gosling? Where are his parents?”
“There was a terrible accident,” said Roz. “It was my fault. This gosling is the only survivor.”
The goose continued, “Do you know who his parents were?”
“I do not know.”
“Well, they must have belonged to one of the other flocks (鸟群) on the island, because nobody in my flock is missing.”
“Will you take the gosling?”
“I most certainly will not!” said the goose. “I can’t take in every gosling I see! You say this is your fault? It’s up to you to make things right.”
“Mama! Mama!” peeped the gosling.
“I have tried to tell him that I am not his mother,” said the robot. “But he does not understand.”
“Well, you’ll have to act like his mother if you want him to survive. You do want him to survive, don’t you?” said the goose.
“Yes,” said the robot. “But I do not know how to act like a mother.”
“Oh, it’s nothing, you just have to provide the gosling with food and water, make him feel loved but don’t pamper (娇惯) him too much, keep him away from danger, and make sure he learns to walk and talk and swim and fly and get along with others and look after himself. And that’s really all there is to motherhood!”

D
Xenotransplantation is the transplant (移植) of organs (器官) between different animals. In daily medical treatment, doctors usually put animal organs into human bodies to save patients’ lives. However, traditional animal organ transplantation can no longer meet the needs of modern medical research. Now, scientists from Stanford University have done a new and different experiment.
Everyone knows that it is dangerous and not allowed to study human brains directly on people. So, the special mice become great tools for research. In order to do this experiment, scientists have found a safe and scientific method. They use special tiny brain tissues (组织). These tissues, growing from small pieces of human skin, are called brain organoids.
Scientists change the growth rules of baby mice. This stops the mice’s own brain parts from growing. Then they put the human tiny brain tissues into the mice’s empty brain areas. Surprisingly, human brain tissues can grow well and work with the mice’s brains.
The human brain parts in young mice grow like babies’ brain parts. This special research condition can be of great use: it allows scientists to clearly and carefully observe the early growth process of human brains without hurting people, which helps them deeply understand the causes of many common neurological diseases. Some experts believe this is a sound method for research, for it helps scientists get valuable information with little harm.
Not only that, with this useful mouse model, researchers can further study serious brain illnesses including dementia, epilepsy and autism, so that they can find better ways to treat these difficult diseases. All the effort is for the humble wish that mankind can finally be free from the trouble of brain diseases, and maybe even stop these diseases from happening.
The special mice can also be used to test new medicine for brain diseases. In the past, many new drugs worked well on common animals but failed on humans. This new experiment model can make drug tests more correct and useful.
This research is checked strictly by many experts to make sure it is safe and moral (道德的). ________ Some people worry the mice may have human-like thoughts, and others wonder whether the study itself can make any actual progress. Human brains and mouse brains grow at different speeds. They also have great evolutionary differences, for humans and mice have developed in different ways over millions of years. Animal Protection Organizations also raise doubts, because similar experiments on monkeys are totally banned (禁止), and all animals should be treated seriously.
32. What can the new mouse model do?
A. Change the growth rules of different animals.
B. Create real human organs for sick patients.
C. Help scientists study early human brain growth.
D. Stop human brain diseases from happening.
33. Which of the following sentences can be put in ________?
A. So scientists try to cut the risks in the experiment.
B. But it is easy to carry out the research on mice.
C. So the scientists are confident about the results.
D. Because the risks here are pretty noticeable.
34. Which sentence uses “sound” with the same meaning as the underlined word in the passage?
sound /saʊnd/
① adj. 无损伤的;健康的
② adj. 酣畅的
③ adj. 合理的;明智的
④ v. 听起来
A. After careful checks, it was certain that the mouse was safe and sound.
B. You need sound reasons if you want to disagree with the experiment.
C. You need to turn off the light and music to have a sound night’s sleep.
D. The whole plan for the experiment sounds safe and ready for the study.
35. What is the author’s purpose of writing this passage?
A. To advise people to accept animal experiments.
B. To introduce a new mouse model for brain research.
C. To argue against the use of brain organoids.
D. To show new ways to cure all brain diseases.

【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“This special research condition can be of great use: it allows scientists to clearly and carefully observe the early growth process of human brains without hurting people, which helps them deeply understand the causes of many common neurological diseases.”可知,该模型能帮助科学家观察人类大脑的早期生长过程。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。空格前的“This research is checked strictly by many experts to make sure it is safe and moral (道德的).”提到许多专家严格检查了这项研究,以确保其安全性和道德性;后文的“Some people worry the mice may have human-like thoughts, and others wonder whether the study itself can make any actual progress.”列举了人们的担忧,可知此处应解释为何需要严格检查,选项D“因为这里的风险显而易见。”符合逻辑。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段中的“Some experts believe this is a sound method for research, for it helps scientists get valuable information with little harm.”可知,一些专家认为,这是一种可靠的研究方法,因为它可以帮助科学家以最小的伤害获得有价值的信息。因此,此处“sound”指方法是合理可靠的,与选项B“You need sound reasons if you want to disagree with the experiment.”中的“sound reasons”含义一致。
【35题详解】

第Ⅱ卷(共55分)
VI.任务型阅读。(65-66每小题2分,67-68每小题3分,共10分)
阅读下文并回答问题。
During the 2026 National Day holiday, many people in China travelled in different ways. Some went to places they had never visited before, while others changed their usual travel plans. More travellers also wanted to experience something special instead of simply taking photos. Here are three posts from middle school students about their holiday trips.
Leo (Hangzhou, 14) Follow
Xincheng Ancient Street, Jiaxing, Zhejiang
My family spent three days there. Before the trip, I thought a small old town might be boring, but the old street was full of surprises. We played old-fashioned games, collected stamps and watched people make traditional incense (香) by hand.
What I liked most was that the street did not feel like a place made just for tourists. We saw local people buying food, chatting outside their homes and going about their daily lives. Sitting by the river, I realized that places that are not on everyone’s travel list can be just as interesting.

Amy (Taiyuan, 15) Follow
Wutai Mountain, Shanxi
My dad usually plans every hour of a trip, but this time we left some time free each day. One afternoon, we found a quiet place near our hotel. The trees were turning yellow in the autumn sun.
Instead of hurrying on, we stopped and enjoyed the view for nearly an hour. That evening, we drank hot tea outside and watched the sky grow dark. I used to think a good trip meant seeing as much as possible. Now I know that some of the best moments come when I’m not in a hurry.

Jason (Chongqing, 14) Follow
Hong’an Ancient Town, Xiushan, Chongqing
My family visited Hong’an Ancient Town in Xiushan. At night, we watched a show based on stories from Border Town. There was no fixed stage. The actors moved through the streets, and visitors followed them from place to place. At one point, an actor gave me a small lamp and asked me to walk with the group. Instead of just watching, I joined in and followed the story through the town, feeling as if I were part of the story.

How long has it been since you took up a new hobby, stepped out of your usual living area or listened to a new idea? Have you ever realized you seldom touch different lifestyles outside your daily circle? We feel comfortable living in our small world. But we need to know the longer we stay in one environment, the less we notice its influence on us.
A small environment influences us quietly. It doesn’t limit us directly. Instead, it shapes our ideas about what is common, respectable and possible. After years of repeated values, we can hardly tell them from our own judgment. We may believe we make independent decisions, but we use standards we never choose.
The narrow world also changes how we act without notice. We tend to (倾向于) act according to the information we often get. When people move to new places, their personality stays similar, but their actions change. New messages guide them to make different choices in daily life.
Seeing different lives offers new reference points (参考点). We find people can live, work and build relationships in different ways. A wider world helps us compare, so we will realize no single lifestyle feels totally right or wrong. With this open mind, we can deal with our own life troubles more wisely.
So leaving a small environment is more like self-care rather than escape. But we don’t need to keep moving or turn away from our hometown. We just need to meet new people and ideas to stop our fixed beliefs from hiding.
To lead a good life, we need to balance familiar things and new experiences. If we stay in one place without exploring outside, its limits will become ours. Connecting with a bigger world helps us look at our life in a new way and find choices we didn’t pay attention to before.
We often feel comfortable in our familiar small world, but it influences us without our notice. Such an environment quietly ______66______. However, seeing different lives brings new reference points for us to compare so that ______67______ and better deal with our life troubles. Leaving the small world is self-care instead of escape. To live well, we should ______68______ familiar things and new experiences, which helps us get new views. In short, ______69______.

【67题详解】

Great Changes in My Studies
Great changes have taken place in my ways of studying from Grade 8 to Grade 9. Let me talk about my changes.
In the past, I didn’t arrange time reasonably and often left my homework till the last minute. Now, I have a clear daily study routine. I pay more attention to my weak subjects and spend extra time on them. To improve learning efficiency, I solve problems independently first instead of turning to others right away. After the show, she shared the story with her Chinese friends. One mentioned a Chinese idiom, “sui sui ping an”. “Sui” (“broken”) sounds like “Sui” (“year”). People usually say it after something breaks to wish for peace and safety. These two expressions made Lily notice a surprising ____15____ between language and culture.
Soon these students started sharing phrases for fun. Ben asked them to guess ____16____ this sentence was funny: “A bicycle can’t stand on its own because it is two-tired (有两个轮胎).” Lily pictured a tired bicycle. She said “two-tired” aloud and heard “too tired”. Everyone laughed.
That night, thinking back to those expressions, Lily ____17____ what she had learned: words could hide a joke or a wish. They were linked to everyday life and customs, ____18____ what people enjoyed, feared or hoped for.
Before leaving the camp, she wrote in her diary, “‘Break a leg’ sounded almost rude at first. It makes me smile now. I once thought knowing each word was ____19____. After hearing these stories, I can see there is more to an expression than its words.” From then on, Lily ____20____ searched for stories behind new phrases on her own.

Cities around the world face a common problem. When cities develop quickly, they may lose old buildings with long history. Few big cities can keep old cultural heritage (遗产) while building new city areas.
On August 5, UNESCO named Beijing the 2029 World Capital of Architecture (建筑). It praised Beijing for its great success in balanced and green city development.
The World Capital of Architecture program is started by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects. It chooses great city models every three years. The prize honors cities that protect cultural heritage and build comfortable modern city space. Beijing made history. It is the first city in Asia to get this great title, and the fourth in the world, after Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen and Barcelona.
UNESCO said Beijing does an excellent job protecting old city areas and creating new modern changes. The Beijing Central Axis (中轴线) is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It shows the old Chinese idea: people and nature should live in peace. Beijing does not pull down hutongs for large business buildings. Instead, it improves public facilities and keeps the community life. It also makes old neighborhoods better, without losing their history and culture.
This special way of development tells us: cultural heritage will not slow down modern progress. It can give cities endless energy. With the theme “Back to Balance”, Beijing will hold many architecture shows, meetings and public educational activities throughout 2029.
24. How many cities in the world have got the title World Capital of Architecture before Beijing?
A. 1 B. 3 C. 4 D. 5
25. Why does Beijing protect hutongs instead of pulling them down?
A. To attract tourists at home and abroad.
B. To slow down modern city development.
C. To keep its historical and cultural value.
D. To protect the old trees and environment.
26. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. Beijing won the prize because of the Beijing Central Axis.
B. The program chooses a model city every four years.
C. The theme for Beijing in 2026 is “Back to Balance”.
D. Cultural heritage can provide endless energy for cities.
27. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Old Hutongs in Beijing B. Beijing, 2029 World Capital of Architecture
C. The History of Beijing Central Axis D. Famous World Capitals of Architecture

28. What does “the situation” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Roz kept the gosling as a pet.
B. The gosling was the robot’s child.

D. The gosling caused an accident on the island.
29. Why did the old goose refuse to take the gosling?
A. Because she didn’t like the noisy gosling.
B. Because she thought the gosling would fly away.
C. Because she thought it wasn’t her duty.
D. Because she didn’t know how to care for the gosling.
30. How will Roz probably take care of the gosling later?
A. She will teach the gosling how to survive.
B. She will help the gosling find his own home.
C. She will pamper the gosling as much as possible.
D. She will help the gosling make more robot friends.
31. Which of the following best describes Roz?
A. Caring and kind.
B. Brave but impatient.
