Note: Figures represent the percentage of surveyed students who reported performing each action at least three times per week.
The most striking improvement has been in volunteering, which almost doubled from September to December. “We started with just a small group of 15 volunteers,” says Li Wei, the program coordinator. “Now we have over 200 students regularly participating in community clean-ups and tree-planting events.”
However, public transport use remains inconsistent. The December figure of 58% represents a recovery after a dip in November, when heavy rain and cold weather discouraged cycling and walking to bus stops. To address this, the Student Union has proposed a shuttle bus service connecting the campus with nearby residential areas, pending approval from the university administration.
21.What can be inferred from the chart about volunteering in eco-projects?
A.It started at 28% and remained stable.
B.It showed the most significant growth among all categories.
C.It was the least popular activity throughout the semester.
D.It declined in November due to weather conditions.
22.Why did public transport use decrease in November?
A.The shuttle bus service was suspended.
B.Students preferred cycling during that period.
C.Adverse weather discouraged students from using public transport.
D.The survey was not conducted properly that month.
23.What is the Student Union planning to do?
A.Cancel the Green Campus Challenge. B.Propose a shuttle bus service.
C.Increase the survey frequency. D.Reduce the number of eco-projects.

Last night, my 6-year-old son taught me a valuable lesson that stayed with me for hours. I had been busy with work and had not spent much time with him recently. Even though he is only six and can be a bit stubborn, he is growing up fast — and that night he taught me something I didn’t expect.
While I was eating dinner, he was in the bath, and suddenly he started crying. I asked him what happened, and he said, “Shampoo got in my eyes.”
I got really worried and rushed into the bathroom. I tried to help by splashing water on his eyes, but things got worse when he rubbed his eyes with his soapy hands. I was nervous, telling him not to use his hands.
Out of the blue, he said, “Calm down, Dad!” It amazed me. I realized I was making things worse. I stopped splashing water, washed his hands, and calmly told him to cup clean water in his hands and rinse his eyes while blinking. It worked, and he felt better.
I’m not sure where he learned to stay calm, maybe from me or somewhere else. But the bigger lesson is that when we face problems, acting emotionally and quickly might not be best. Staying calm and thinking about the right solution is better.
In today’s tough job market with many people losing their jobs, it’s easy to feel worried. My son’s lesson reminded me that staying calm and taking a moment to relax can help us face challenges with a clear mind, more energy, and better solutions.
24.What happened to the author’s son last night?
A.He argued with his dad. B.He fell in the bathroom.
C.He got angry due to the meal. D.He got shampoo in his eyes.
25.Why did the situation get worse?
A.The boy rubbed his eyes with soapy hands. B.The father left the bathroom.
C.The boy refused to wash his face. D.The father used the wrong shampoo.
26.What does the underlined phrase “out of the blue” mean?
A.Secretly. B.Suddenly. C.Naturally. D.Morally.
27.What does the author’s experience show?
A.Children need more independence. B.Parents know their children best.
C.Calm thinking leads to better solutions. D.Difficulties make people stronger.

Doctors have long known that exercise is a good way to stay healthy. But few people get enough exercise. Only 20% of Americans get the recommended 150 minutes of activity per week. More than 80 million Americans over age 6 are completely inactive. It doesn’t help that many U.S. schools have cut gym classes. Nearly half of high school students don’t have a weekly PE class.
People leading a sedentary (久坐的) life pay a price. They are at higher risk for serious health problems, including heart disease and cancer.
Health experts want to let people know the benefits of exercise. The US-National Institutes of Health (NIH)is playing a key role in the effort. This year, it is carrying out a study. It will record in detail what happens inside a body during a workout. Through its research, the NIH hopes to prove scientifically that exercise is good medicine.
The six-year, $170-million project will include a group of about 3,000 inactive people. The group will begin an exercise program. Their blood and fat will be studied before and after each workout. Scientists will look for clues (线索) to how the body changes with physical activity. A group that doesn’t exercise will also be tracked, for comparison.
Studies show that many good changes happen in the body during and after a workout. One of the best pieces of news is that much of what we already do counts as physical activity. “Sweeping the floor, walking the dog, washing the car — all that is exercise,” says Jack Berryman. He is a professor at Washington University School of Medicine, in Seattle. “Physical activity includes all movement, not just throwing a ball through a basket.”
Berryman hopes the NIH study will give doctors the ability to provide patients with a detailed, personal workout plan. In the meantime, here is medicine for good health: Get active!
28.Why did the NIH carry out the research?
A.To call on schools to increase PE classes. B.To prove exercise is good for health.
C.To popularize drug-free living. D.To help treat serious diseases.
29.What can we infer from Jack Berryman’s words?
A.Doctors should give patients more detailed advice.
B.The basketball game is strongly recommended.
C.All movement can be regarded as exercise.
D.More daily work should be encouraged.
30.How is the study by NIH conducted?
A.By doing a survey. B.By making interviews.
C.By making predictions. D.By making comparison.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.The best medicine. B.Ways to do exercise.
C.Changes in the body. D.An active life in the US.
D
According to research, the average person has 3 to 5 very close friends, 10 to 15 people in their circle, and 100 to 150 acquaintances (认识的人) in their social network. Naturally, these numbers can vary widely based on your personality, career, location, and social skills.
It’s a common misunderstanding that you need to have tons of friends to be happy. Studies have revealed that it isn’t the number of friends, but the quality of friends, that leads to true happiness. Close friends are far more likely to bring real social satisfaction than a bunch of casual connections.
This even holds true in the celebrity (名人) world, where one would imagine that famous people have loads of friends… Nope! Oprah Winfrey openly shares that she has only 3 close friends. Instagram star and singer Selena Gomez says the same; she only has 3 good friends she feels she can tell everything to. Actor Matthew McConaughey says, “I’ve got only a few really close friends in the 28 years of acting that I keep up with all the time.”
Nearly half of the American population reports an average of 3 close friends. About a third of people report having 4 to 9 close friends. The other proportions include people with 10 or more close friends (about 13%) and those who report no close friends at all (12%). Oxford anthropologist Robin Dunbar calculated that you could only maintain a social network of 150 to 200 people, most of whom are casual acquaintances. Most people have a smaller group of about 15 friends that they can open up to. And Dunbar estimates that we only realistically keep an inner core circle of 5 or fewer friends.
Compared with 1990, Americans are becoming more socially isolated over time. The number of close friendships Americans have is dropping. And a bunch of surface-level acquaintances just don’t cut it for satisfying our social bonding needs. Even if you know many people, maintaining a handful of close quality friendships could be the key to true social connectedness.
32.What mistaken belief do many people hold commonly?
A.People with better social skills own more friends.
B.A perfect social circle contains 100 to 150 contacts.
C.Owning lots of friends makes people happy.
D.Common acquaintances cannot bring real joy.
33.How does the author stress close friends’ importance to true happiness?
A.By listing famous people’s cases.
B.By referring to social media videos.
C.By reviewing classical movies.
D.By providing scientific reports.
34.What is the realistic size for a person’s circle of close friends in Dunbar’s opinion?
A.About 200 people. B.More than 150 people.
C.About 15 people. D.No more than 5 people.
35.What results in Americans’ increasing social loneliness after 1990?
A.Lack of enough ordinary acquaintances.
B.Misunderstanding the secret of real happiness.
C.The falling number of close friends.
D.Making friends only through social platforms.
Mother’s Day is an occasion to celebrate mothers. 36 Based on my research and those of other psychologists, here are some tips for celebrating moms on Mother’s Day, and every day, to enhance (增强) well-being for both moms and their loved ones.
37 Psychology research suggests that Mother’s Day cards have it right — building a mother’s confidence by telling them that they’re amazing or that they always know how to make the family feel better can be greatly effective in enhancing moms’ happiness. 38 Compared to fathers, mothers generally report feeling more emotionally connected to their kids and more strongly identifying as a parent. A phone call with their kids can really improve a mom’s well-being.
The benefits of celebrating moms also reach their kids. 39 For example, my research has found that moms who are less stressed are seen by their adolescent kids as being better at understanding the kids’ ideas. When mothers feel positive, they have better communication with their kids and their kids feel better. That means it’s important to send appreciation mom’s way every day, not just on Mother’s Day.
Mothers are the main source of comfort and care for families around the world, yet it’s easy to take them for granted (想当然认为) most days across the year. 40 Helping moms feel happy will help the family feel happy, too.
A.So what can families do to enhance moms’ happiness?
B.Stress can also impact how attentive moms are to their family.
C.However, we don’t often hear about the benefits of celebrating moms.
D.Positive parents enhance children’s mental well-being and social bonds.
E.Moms play an important role in shaping our identities and guiding our life.
F.While flowers on Mother’s Day are appreciated, let’s celebrate moms every day.
G.If you’re an adult living far away from your parents, don’t forget to call your mom.

Boys like to be considered brave, but what kind of things can be considered brave? It is not a question that can be answered by words, but by actual actions. A boy named Henry gave us a good example.
Ronny and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day as Ronny and Henry were going home after school, they saw some people fighting at the street corner. Ronny said excitedly, “Some people are fighting! Let’s go and have a look.” But Henry refused, “It’s none of our business. We’d better go home and not get close to them. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me.”
“You are a coward (懦夫) and afraid to go,” said Ronny, and he ran to the spot with some other boys. Henry had to go home alone and didn’t think about it anymore. But Ronny thought Henry was a coward and told all the boys that. They laughed at him a lot. From then on, they looked down upon (看不起) Henry, refusing to play with him.
Henry was sad but he didn’t get angry, because he learned that true courage lies in bearing (承受) unfair misunderstanding, and that he should fear nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to go to school and study as usual. However, Ronny didn’t invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Every day after school, he and his new friends didn’t go home directly but went to play near the river, never thinking about the possible danger.

W: Today I’ll talk about a great artist, Leonardo da Vinci. He was born in 1452 in the town of Vinci, near Florence, Italy. At 15 Leonardo went to work with a famous artist. At the age of 20 he was already a master painter. Although da Vinci was a great painter, he never gave up his interest in other subjects. For example, he drew a flying machine 400 years before the airplane was invented. In all, da Vinci designed more than 1000 inventions. As a matter of fact, da Vinci started many projects that he never finished. He was always more interested in planning projects than doing them. He often quickly lost interest in one project and couldn’t wait to start another. So, he completed very few paintings. Da Vinci took four years to paint the Mona Lisa. Unfortunately, the man who ordered the painting didn’t like it and refused to pay him. However, 10 years later, da Vinci sold it to the king of France. The king hung it in the Louvre palace in Paris. Today, the Mona Lisa still hangs in the Louvre, which is now a museum.

根据倒数第二段中“The most striking improvement has been in volunteering, which almost doubled from September to December.(提升最显著的是志愿活动,从9月到12月该数据几乎翻了一倍。)”
根据最后一段中“The December figure of 58% represents a recovery after a dip in November, when heavy rain and cold weather discouraged cycling and walking to bus stops. (12月份58%的数据,是在11月数据下滑之后出现的回升;11月大雨和寒冷天气,使得学生不愿骑车或步行前往公交站点。)”可知,恶劣天气影响了学生乘坐公共交通,11月公共交通使用量下降。
23.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“To address this, the Student Union has proposed a shuttle bus service connecting the campus with nearby residential areas, pending approval from the university administration.(为解决该问题,学生会提议开通连接校园与附近居民区的班车服务,等待校方审批。)”

【答案】24.D 25.A 26.B 27.C
根据第二段“I asked him what happened, and he said, “Shampoo got in my eyes.”(我问他发生了什么事,他说:“洗发水进到我的眼睛里了。”)”
根据第三段“I tried to help by splashing water on his eyes, but things got worse when he rubbed his eyes with his soapy hands.(我试着用水泼他的眼睛来帮忙,但当他用沾满肥皂的手揉眼睛时,情况变得更糟了。)”
根据第三段“I was nervous, telling him not to use his hands.(我很紧张,告诉他不要用手。)”和第四段“Out of the blue, he said, “Calm down, Dad!” It amazed me.(Out of the blue,他说:“冷静点,爸爸!”这让我很惊讶。)”可知,此处指作者很紧张,而儿子却出乎意料地来安慰作者,所以猜测out of the blue意为“突然地”,与suddenly意思相近。
27.推理判断题。根据第五段“But the bigger lesson is that when we face problems, acting emotionally and quickly might not be best. Staying calm and thinking about the right solution is better.(但更大的教训是,当我们面对问题时,情绪化且仓促地行事可能不是最好的办法。保持冷静并思考正确的解决方案会更好。)”可知,作者的经历表明冷静思考能带来更好的解决办法。

【答案】28.B 29.C 30.D 31.A
根据倒数第二段中““Sweeping the floor, walking the dog, washing the car — all that is exercise,” says Jack Berryman. He is a professor at Washington University School of Medicine, in Seattle. “Physical activity includes all movement, not just throwing a ball through a basket.”(杰克·贝里曼说:“扫地、遛狗、洗车——所有这些活动都属于锻炼范畴。”他是西雅图华盛顿大学医学院的教授。“体育活动指的是所有形式的运动,而不仅仅是把球投进篮筐这样的动作。”)”可知,所有的运动都可以被视为锻炼。
30.细节理解题。根据第四段中“A group that doesn’t exercise will also be tracked, for comparison.(另外还有一组未进行锻炼的人员也将被纳入监测范围,以便作为对比对象)”可知,NIH这项研究通过比较进行。
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“Doctors have long known that exercise is a good way to stay healthy.(医生们早就知道,锻炼是保持健康的有效方式)”以及文章指出美国人普遍缺乏运动,久坐生活有健康风险。
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.D 35.C
根据第二段“It’s a common misunderstanding that you need to have tons of friends to be happy.(人们普遍存在一个误解,认为需要拥有大量的朋友才能获得快乐)”可知,许多人错误地认为朋友越多越幸福。
根据第三段“This even holds true in the celebrity (名人) world, where one would imagine that famous people have loads of friends… Nope! Oprah Winfrey openly shares that she has only 3 close friends. Instagram star and singer Selena Gomez says the same; she only has 3 good friends she feels she can tell everything to. Actor Matthew McConaughey says, “I’ve got only a few really close friends in the 28 years of acting that I keep up with all the time.”(这一点甚至在名人界也成立,人们会想象名人有很多朋友……不!奥普拉·温弗瑞公开表示,她只有三个亲密的朋友。Instagram明星兼歌手赛琳娜·戈麦斯也这么说;她只有三个可以倾诉一切的好朋友。演员马修·麦康纳说:“在我28年的演艺生涯中,我只有几个真正亲密的朋友,我一直在和他们保持联系。”)”可知,作者通过列举多位名人的案例来强调密友对真正幸福感的重要性。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段“Oxford anthropologist Robin Dunbar calculated that you could only maintain a social network of 150 to 200 people, most of whom are casual acquaintances. Most people have a smaller group of about 15 friends that they can open up to. And Dunbar estimates that we only realistically keep an inner core circle of 5 or fewer friends.(牛津大学人类学家罗宾·邓巴计算出,你只能维持一个150到200人的社交网络,其中大多数是泛泛之交。大多数人有一个更小的群体,大约15个可以敞开心扉的朋友。而邓巴估计,我们实际上只能维持一个由5个或更少朋友组成的内核圈子)”可知,在邓巴看来,一个人亲密朋友圈的现实规模是不超过5人。
35.细节理解题。根据第五段“Compared with 1990, Americans are becoming more socially isolated over time. The number of close friendships Americans have is dropping. And a bunch of surface-level acquaintances just don’t cut it for satisfying our social bonding needs.(与1990年相比,随着时间的推移,美国人正变得越来越与社会隔绝。美国人拥有的亲密友谊数量正在下降。一堆表面层次的熟人根本无法满足我们的社交联结需求)”可知,导致美国人日益孤独的原因是亲密朋友数量的减少。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
【答案】36.C 37.A 38.G 39.D 40.F

上文“Mother’s Day is an occasion to celebrate mothers.(母亲节是祝福母亲的节日。)” 转折上文语义,引出下文“Based on my research and those of other psychologists, here are some tips for celebrating moms on Mother’s Day, and every day, to enhance(增强) well-being for both moms and their loved ones. (根据我和其他心理学家的研究,这里有一些在母亲节和每天祝福妈妈的建议,以增强妈妈和她们所爱的人的幸福。)”介绍文章主题,为祝福妈妈给出一些建议。故选C项。
37.下文“Psychology research suggests that Mother’s Day cards have it right —building a mother’s confidence by telling them that they’re amazing or that they always know how to make the family feel better can be greatly effective in enhancing moms’ happiness.(心理学研究表明,母亲节贺卡是正确的——通过告诉母亲她们很了不起,或者她们总是知道如何让家人感觉更好,来建立母亲的信心,这对提高妈妈的幸福感非常有效。)”
38.下文“Compared to fathers, mothers generally report feeling more emotionally connected to their kids and more strongly identifying as a parent. A phone call with their kids can really improve a mom’s well-being. (与父亲相比,母亲通常会感觉与孩子的情感联系更紧密,更认同自己是父母。和孩子打个电话真的能提高妈妈的幸福感。)”说明打电话能提高妈妈的幸福感,选项G“如果你是一个离父母很远的成年人,别忘了给妈妈打电话。”建议给妈妈打电话。故选G项。
39.下文“For example, my research has found that moms who are less stressed are seen by their adolescent kids as being better at understanding the kids’ ideas. When mothers feel positive, they have better communication with their kids and their kids feel better. (例如,我的研究发现,在青春期的孩子看来,压力较小的妈妈更能理解孩子的想法。当母亲感到积极乐观时,她们与孩子的沟通会更好,孩子也会感觉更好。)”说明积极乐观的母亲能够更好地和孩子建立联系并让孩子更加身心健康,选项D“积极乐观的父母能增强孩子的心理健康和社会联系。” 引领下文,概括说明积极乐观的父母培养积极乐观的孩子。故选D项。
40.上文“Mothers are the main source of comfort and care for families around the world, yet it’s easy to take them for granted(想当然认为) most days across the year.(母亲是世界各地家庭舒适和关怀的主要来源,然而在一年中的大部分时间里,我们很容易把她们视为理所当然。)”

My best friend Leo and I had been close since primary school. We shared everything — lunches, secrets, and even dreams. But last month, a sudden 41 nearly ruined our friendship.
It started during the school basketball final. With ten seconds left, I passed the ball to Leo, but he missed the shot and we lost.
注意:1.续写的短文词数应为150词左右;
Paragraph 1:
A few days later, something terrible happened to Ronny.

Paragraph 2:
At that moment, Henry happened to pass by.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A few days later, something terrible happened to Ronny. As usual, after school, he and his new friends went to play near the river, never thinking about the possible danger. While chasing each other on the bank, Ronny slipped and fell into the deep water. He couldn’t swim and struggled desperately, crying for help at the top of his voice. His friends were frozen with fear, none of them daring to jump in, for the river was deep and the current was strong. “Help! Help!” Ronny shouted in terror, his head going under the water again and again.
At that moment, Henry happened to pass by. Hearing the desperate cries, he ran over and threw himself into the river without any hesitation. He swam to Ronny, grabbed his arm tightly and pulled him toward the bank with great effort. Finally, he brought Ronny safely to the shore. Trembling with shame, Ronny apologized, “I was wrong. You are not a coward but the bravest boy I have ever known.” Henry just smiled and helped him up. From then on, Henry’s true courage won everyone’s respect, and the two became good friends again.
大叫:shout/scream/cry
颤抖:tremble/shake
恐惧:fear/terror/horror
羞愧:shame/guilt/embarrassment
