When I was fifteen years old, I moved to Chicago with my family. When I was in the Philippines, I attended a small all-girl private school. While in Chicago I went to a public senior high school. It was a big change for me. The school was new, everyone was different, and people there were also diverse. I had never met so many kinds of people in just one place. I was scared during the first day of school. I didn’t know anyone. I got lost since the school was huge. I really didn’t know what to do. I just wanted to cry. Luckily, a girl of my age came to me. “Are you in trouble?” she asked me smilingly. At first I was too shy to say anything. But she looked very kind. “I’m lost. I can’t find my classroom,” I said. “Don’t worry. Let me help you, ” said the girl. So I told the girl where I was going. Luckily, she just knew that place and she took me there. On the way, the girl said she was a new student too and asked about me. When she knew I just came to the city, she said I could turn to her whenever I needed help. I was really thankful hearing that. Before the girl left, she said with a smile, “I’m sure you’ll make some new friends here soon.” What she said gave me great courage and confidence. In the following weeks, I made a lot of new friends and met so many people. My friends took me out to movies, road trips and concerts in our free time. I must thank the girl I met on my first day in that school. She made me believe people there were nice. 24. What does the underlined word “diverse” in Paragraph 1 mean? A. Different. B. Confident. C. Serious. D. Bad. 25. Why did the girl come to the author? A. She knew the school well. B. She wanted to offer help. C. She needed some help. D. She wanted a new friend. 26. What did the author think of what the girl said before she left? A. Worrying. B. Unbelievable. C. Encouraging. D. Interesting. 27. What do we know about the author in the following weeks? A. She failed to make new friends. B. She missed her parents very much. C. She had difficulty doing her schoolwork. D. She really enjoyed her life. C TikTok has reported it will block young users on the social networking platform from using certain beauty filters (滤镜) on photographs. The filters allow users to edit photos and do things like making people’s skin look clearer, their eyes a little bigger or their lips a little fuller. Some filters also allow users to change their skin colour, and it can be hard to see when a photograph has been edited in this way. People under the age of 18 will be blocked from using these filters. Some of them are created by users and others are made by the app. TikTok posted the changes after a report by Internet matters, a children’s online safety organisation. The organisation found that these beauty filters could be harmful to children’s mental health because they put young people under pressure to look a certain way. This can harm children’s self-esteem (自尊) and cause worry, experts say. Christine Grahm from TikTok said on LinkedIn, “If our users don’t feel safe, they won’t bring their true selves to TikTok and the platform just wouldn’t be the same.” One TikTok user told The Guardian in 2022 that she had considered getting cosmetic surgery (美容手术) after a period of using beauty filters on the app. Fun filters that allow children to add dog noses or rabbit ears to images will still be OK to use. One problem with the ban (禁令) is that not all users enter their real ages when signing up to TikTok. The company said it would soon be trying out new machine learning systems that could help find out when users had entered the incorrect age, but it is under pressure to stop under 13s from using the platform by giving untrue dates of birth. Children’s safety organisations want all social media sites to do more to make the platforms safe spaces for young people. 28. What will TikTok do about certain beauty filters for young users? A. Test their safety. B. Post their advantages. C. Ban the use of them. D. Increase their users. 29. What is the influence of the beauty filters? A. It encourages creativity. B. It makes children worried. C. It develops self-esteem. D. It stops children from communicating. 30. Why is Christine Grahm mentioned in Paragraph 4? A. To show the harm of beauty filters. B. To make readers more interested. C. To warn children to stay away from Internet. D. To introduce cosmetic surgery. 31. What problem does TikTok have with the ban? A. Users might not like it. B. It’s hard to check how old users are. C. Users might misunderstand the rule. D. It doesn’t receive support from parents. D Researchers in Australia, who studied 1,500 people and their lifestyles, have found that having good friends can help you live longer. An American study of 10,000 students, over a period of 35 years, also found that if you make more friends than the average (普通的) person at school, you’ll receive a higher salary (工资) in later life. People need good social skills at work to manage people and work in a team successfully. These are the same skills we use to make friends at school. On average, teenagers aged between 15 and 17 have 500 “friends” on their favourite social networking site. Adults have 130. So if you believe this research, you might live for a long time and be very rich. However, according to Professor Robin Dunbar from the University of Oxford, it probably won’t make any difference. Dunbar studied the number of messages between users of a popular social networking website, each of whom had between 200 and 2,000 friends. He found that they always communicate with a maximum (最大量) of 150 people. Among these 150, Dunbar believes that around five people are close friends. You’ve most likely known them for a long time; they are probably old friends and you share all your good and bad experiences with them. Then there are ten more friends. Although they’re close to you, you may not keep in touch with them every week. Next there are 35 people who you might spend time with because of a shared interest. You aren’t close. And finally, there’s a large group of 100. You see or speak to these people at least once a year, but you don’t know them well. Beyond this number, Dunbar says, it’s impossible to make any relationship meaningful. If you have a lot of online “friends”, try this experiment: First take away anyone you haven’t been in touch with for a year. Then remove people you can’t remember and, finally, take away friends who you wouldn’t mind losing touch with. How many do you have left? How many of these people are actually good friends? According to the research, these are the only people that really matter. 32. What are the studies in the first paragraph mainly about? A. Some useful advice on how to make friends. B. Some social skills you may need at work. C. The advantages of having good friends. D. The number of friends you should have. 33. What is Robin Dunbar’s attitude towards the studies? A. Unclear. B. Unfavourable. C. Hopeful. D. Careless. 34. What does the text mainly want to show? A. It’s more important to have good friends than lots of friends. B. Friends are sometimes more important than family. C. There is a lot of research on the influence of friends. D. You need to spend more time with your friends. 35. In which part of a newspaper can we read the text? A. Nature. B. Technology. C. Education. D. Lifestyle. Making your school a better place will make everyone around you happier and will get you more excited to go every day. ____36____ The following are some of the ways you can make your school a better place. ____37____ Do not stay silent when you see another student getting hurt by others. The classroom was full of loud chatter, with students laughing and talking to each other, but I kept my eyes fixed on the ground, not daring to look up. My family had just moved to the city after my dad lost his job, and I didn’t know a single person here. The strange environment made my hands feel sweaty, and I tightly held my schoolbag strap (带子), hoping no one would notice me. As students hurried to find seats, only one was still empty — right beside a boy named Leo. He, too, was new to the class. He took a quick look at me, then turned his eyes away at once. I walked over quietly and sat down, hoping not to draw any attention. Over the next few weeks, I noticed Leo never joined any group conversations. He always ate lunch alone, seldom spoke in class, and wore the same washed-out blue jacket every day. Some classmates whispered (私下说) about him — they said he’d always had trouble keeping up in school. A few unkind students even said that he wasn’t quick in mind and was hard to get along with. Then one afternoon, our teacher announced we would work on a science project — with a partner. Everyone quickly teamed up until I was the only one still without a partner. Just as I began to worry, Leo raised his hand slowly and asked softly, “Would you like to work together?” I nodded and said yes. To my surprise, Leo knew so much about plants, animals, and nature. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the presentation, our project received the highest score. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 利辛高级中学高一年级第一次教学质量检测 英语 (试卷满分:150分,考试时间:120分钟) 注意事项: 1. Where does the conversation probably take place? C 29. B 30. A 31. 根据文章第一段“TikTok has reported it will block young users on the social networking platform from using certain beauty filters (滤镜) on photographs.(TikTok已宣布,将禁止该社交平台上的年轻用户在照片中使用特定美颜滤镜。)”以及第三段“People under the age of 18 will be blocked from using these filters.(18岁以下人群将被禁止使用这些滤镜。)” 根据文章第三段“The organisation found that these beauty filters could be harmful to children’s mental health because they put young people under pressure to look a certain way. A. Nature. B. Technology. C. Education. D. Lifestyle. 【答案】32. C 33. B 34. A 35. D 【解析】 【导语】文章介绍了有好朋友比有很多朋友更重要,同时介绍了得出这项研究发现的过程,以及这项研究发现背后的意义。 【32题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Researchers in Australia, who studied 1,500 people and their lifestyles, have found that having good friends can help you live longer. An American study of 10,000 students, over a period of 35 years, also found that if you make more friends than the average (普通的) person at school, you’ll receive a higher salary (工资) in later life. People need good social skills at work to manage people and work in a team successfully. These are the same skills we use to make friends at school.(澳大利亚的研究人员对1500人及其生活方式进行了研究,发现拥有好朋友可以帮助你长寿。一项历时 35 年、针对一万名学生开展的美国研究还发现:如果你在校期间交到的朋友比普通人更多,你在日后会拿到更高的工资。人们在工作中需要良好的社交技能,来管理人以及顺利地团队协作。这些技能和我们在学校交朋友时所用到的技能是一样的)”可知,第一段提到的研究主要是关于拥有好朋友的好处。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“However, according to Professor Robin Dunbar from the University of Oxford, it probably won’t make any difference. (然而,根据牛津大学的罗宾·邓巴教授的说法,这可能不会有任何区别)”可知,罗宾·邓巴教授并不赞同这些研究的结论。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Then remove people you can’t remember and, finally, take away friends who you wouldn’t mind losing touch with. How many do you have left? How many of these people are actually good friends? According to the research, these are the only people that really matter.(最后,除掉那些你不介意失去联系的朋友。你还剩多少?这些人中有多少是真正的好朋友?根据研究,这些人才是真正重要的人)”可知,这篇文章主要想表达有好朋友比有很多朋友更重要。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“Researchers in Australia, who studied 1,500 people and their lifestyles, have found that having good friends can help you live longer.(澳大利亚的研究人员对1500人及其生活方式进行了研究,发现拥有好朋友可以帮助你长寿)”以及全文内容可知,本文主要探讨了关于交友的问题,最有可能来自报纸的“生活方式”版块。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Making your school a better place will make everyone around you happier and will get you more excited to go every day. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 To my surprise, Leo knew so much about plants, animals, and nature. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the presentation, our project received the highest score. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: To my surprise, Leo knew so much about plants, animals, and nature. He told me he had spent several summers volunteering at a local nature centre. During our work, he explained difficult ideas in a clear and easy way, drew detailed pictures to help me understand, and even stayed after school to help me make our model. I finally realized that his quietness was not a sign of weakness — it was because he was paying full attention to things he cared about. Those rumors about him turned out to be totally untrue. On the day of the presentation, our project received the highest score. After class, Leo gave me a small, real smile. “Thank you,” he said, “for not believing what others said about me.” “Thank you,” I replied, “for choosing me as your partner.” We walked out of the classroom side by side. From that day on, I understood that silence does not mean emptiness, and a simple, faded jacket does not mean there is nothing valuable inside. Sometimes, what is quiet and plain holds the most beautiful stories. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①解释:explain/clarify/illuminate ②绘画:draw/sketch/illustrate ③选择:choose/select/pick 情绪类 ①注意:pay full attention to/give one’s undivided attention to ②在意:care about/be concerned about 【点睛】[高分句型1] I finally realized that his quietness was not a sign of weakness — it was because he was paying full attention to things he cared about. (运用了that引导的宾语从句和because引导的表语从句) [高分句型2] From that day on, I understood that silence does not mean emptiness, and a simple, faded jacket does not mean there is nothing valuable inside. (运用了that引导的宾语从句句) [高分句型3] Sometimes, what is quiet and plain holds the most beautiful stories. (运用了what引导的主语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
