根据“Not only...but also...”
根据前文“fail in exams and feel upset”可知,此处表示消极情绪让人情绪低落,应选用get me down表示“使我沮丧”。
根据空后的“on some useless screen time”以及“make space for inner thinking”可知,此处表示“削减”屏幕时间,应选用cut back,构成cut back on表示“削减”。
根据“rather than avoid them”可知,此处与“逃避”形成对比,表示必须“忍受”不愉快的情绪,应选用put up with表示“忍受”。
(B)

6. A 7. C 8. C 9. A 10. C
what“什么”;that无实义;who“谁”,均不符。
根据上文“feel upset”可知,遇到烦心事不知道自己该做什么,应用what they can do。how they can do“怎么做”;who they can talk结构错误,动词talk后缺to;that they are not alone“他们并不孤单”,均不符。
根据“I wonder”及“I can turn to my parents”可知,作者心中存有疑问,想知道“是否”可以求助,应用whether引导宾语从句。that无实义;what“什么”;which“哪一个”,均不符。
根据后文“but as long as we keep moving forward”转折可知,前文表达的是对未来的不确定(努力何时见效),应用when our hard work will pay off“我们的辛勤付出何时将得到回报”。why we should stop trying now“为什么我们现在应该停止尝试”(与后文“keep moving forward”矛盾);where will we get professional support“我们在哪里能得到专业支持”(语序错误且不符合语境);what action should we take“我们应该采取什么行动”(语序错误且不符合语境),均不符。
(C)

原文主句时态为现在完成时“I have spent hours...”,从句为一般过去时“I started learning the piano”。
连词短语As soon as表示“一……
后句提到“I remind myself to keep trying”,且老师也高度赞扬作者的毅力(“speaks highly of my perseverance”),说明作者在任何一次遇到挫折时都从不退缩。
从句“I am playing the difficult piece”,是延续进行动作。while“当……
原文主句为否定句“I won’t stop practising”,与连词until构成经典的“not... until...”
After a heavy rain, a volunteer team in a small town began to make a map of broken street lamps and blocked drains. People usually noticed the volunteers who spoke to residents (居民) or carried tools, but few noticed Lin Hao, who sat beside a folding table with an old laptop. He was quiet, and at the first meeting he ____16____ that nobody would expect much from him.
The team leader quickly divided the work. Some volunteers went from street to street, some took photos, and others called repair workers. Lin Hao was asked to keep the daily record. It sounded like a small job, so he accepted it without much ____17____.
Two days later, however, the team began to face trouble. One group reported the same broken lamp twice. Another group forgot which drain had already been cleared. A worker drove to the wrong road because a photo had no street name. When people started arguing, Lin Hao opened his record and read out the exact time, place and problem for each report. The noisy tent became ____18____ at once.
The leader looked surprised. Lin Hao had also marked which problems were urgent and which ones could wait until the next morning. His record did not repair anything directly, but it kept the work in good ____19____. From then on, each group reported to him before leaving and after returning. Before the team ended each day, Lin Hao would summarize the changes and ask everyone to ____20____ whether the map was correct.
On the fourth day, a repair truck broke down, and several streets might have been left in darkness. Lin Hao remembered that another team had finished a nearby area earlier than planned. He suggested changing the route (路线), and the repair work went on ____21____.
At the final meeting, the town officer praised the whole team. She said residents could see the people carrying tools, but they should also remember the quiet work behind every clear decision. Lin Hao finally understood that a useful person is not always the one who ____22____ first. Some people notice details, some keep order, and some help others feel less worried.
That experience changed the way Lin Hao saw himself. He still did not enjoy standing in the centre, but he no longer believed quietness was a ____23____. In a team, different personalities can become different kinds of strength. If each person understands both his strong points and his weak points, the group is more likely to ____24____ its goal. His record book was only a small thing, but it helped him discover a larger truth: knowing yourself is not about finding a label; it is about finding the best way to ____25____.
16. A. hoped B. promised C. ordered D. warned
17. A. confidence B. attention C. trouble D. praise
18. A. quiet B. bright C. crowded D. empty
19. A. danger B. order C. public D. return
20. A. check B. imagine C. mention D. describe
21. A. carelessly B. successfully C. suddenly D. separately
22. A. arrives B. writes C. speaks D. leaves
23. A. weakness B. habit C. secret D. standard
24. A. miss B. set C. change D. reach
25. A. give up B. show off C. pay off D. work with others
16. A 17. C 18. A 19. B 20. A 21. B 22. C 23. A 24. D 25. D
前文提到由于信息混乱,大家开始争吵(“When people started arguing...”),而林浩随即打开记录,清楚准确地念出了每次报告的时间、地点和问题(“read out the exact time, place and problem”),用事实平息了争议。
结合后半句“whether the map was correct”,核对信息是否真实准确的标准动词是check,check whether...
原文首段提到“People usually noticed the volunteers who spoke to residents or carried tools”,而林浩是安静记录的人。
固定搭配reach a goal/reach its goal表示“达成/实现目标”。
work with others“与他人合作”完美契合文章主旨升华;give up“放弃”、show off“炫耀”、pay off“取得成功/得到回报”均脱离了团队互补协作的核心思想。
(A)
QUOTES FOR WORRIERS
You’ll never find a rainbow if you look down!
Send me a worry, and I’ll send you a quote (暖心语录) for free! If you like the quote, please let me know.
Drummer Boy
I got a drum kit (套装) for my 16th birthday. There’s a cool band at school. Their drummer, Lucas, is leaving as his family’s moving. The band asked if I’d try out and Lucas will teach me. But I’m not sure if I’m good enough. I don’t want to get my hopes up and be upset if I don’t make it.
Tim 7:20 p.m./2nd May
Here’s a quote from Mahatma Gandhi: “Man often becomes what he believes himself to be.” If you keep saying you can’t do something, you might end up unable to. But if you believe you can, you’ll get the ability, even if you don’t have it at first.
Shall I Stay or Go?
I’m in a difficult situation. My aunt and uncle in the US invited me for a month. It sounds great, but they live in a small town and have no kids. I’m worried there won’t be anyone my age to hang out with. I’m afraid I’ll regret whatever I decide. Help!
Alice 9:10 p.m./3rd May
Winston Churchill said, “A negative (消极的) thinker sees the difficulty in every chance; a positive (积极的) thinker sees the chance in every difficulty.” Even if there are problems, there are also great things you can do there that you can’t at home. So, go and remember the rainbow!

(B)
Many teenagers know that they spend too much time on electronic products, but “use less” is too general to be useful. A phone can be a dictionary, a camera, a timetable, a music player and a door to games. If teenagers do not know which use is necessary and which use is only a habit, they may either give up too quickly or argue with adults about every minute.
A better method is to divide screen time into three groups. The first group is necessary use, such as checking homework messages or looking up a word. The second group is useful but controllable use, such as watching a lesson video. The third group is habit use, such as opening short videos whenever there is a free minute. Only the third group should be cut first.
Another method is to create “ending points”. Many apps are designed without a natural end. One video leads to another, and one game asks for one more round. Teenagers can set an ending point before they begin: three videos, twenty minutes, or one completed task. The key is to decide before the app begins to pull attention away.
Parents can help, but the way they help matters. A rule made only by adults may lead to secret use. A rule made together is easier to follow. For example, a teenager may agree to put the phone outside the bedroom after 10 p.m., while parents agree not to check messages without permission. In this way, control does not mean losing trust.
Electronic products are not enemies. The real goal is to make them tools again. When teenagers name their screen habits, set ending points and build fair rules with adults, they are more likely to control the screen instead of being controlled by it.
29. Why does the writer begin this passage by saying “use less” is too general?
A. To show that electronic products have different uses and need clearer management.
B. To explain why teenagers are unable to use phones for school work.
C. To suggest that adults should count every minute of screen time for teenagers.
D. To show that electronic products are mainly designed for games and short videos.
30. Which kind of screen use should teenagers reduce first according to this passage?
A. Looking up a new word during homework.
B. Watching a lesson video for a planned task.
C. Checking a timetable before leaving home.
D. Opening short videos whenever there is a free minute.
31. What is the purpose of creating “ending points”?
A. To make teenagers finish homework before using any app.
B. To help teenagers decide limits before apps draw away their attention.
C. To encourage teenagers to choose apps that have a natural ending.
D. To help parents decide which electronic products should be used at home.
32. Which sentence best expresses the writer’s opinion?
A. Teenagers can manage screens better when they separate uses, set limits and make fair rules.
B. Parents should make phone rules first so that teenagers can follow them more quickly.
C. Electronic products become useful when teenagers use them mainly for lessons.
D. Screen control depends more on bedroom rules than on teenagers’ own habits.
A 30. D 31. B 32. A
根据文章第一段“A phone can be a dictionary, a camera, a timetable, a music player and a door to games.”及“If teenagers do not know which use is necessary and which use is only a habit...”
根据文章第二段“The third group is habit use, such as opening short videos whenever there is a free minute. Only the third group should be cut first.”
根据文章第三段“The key is to decide before the app begins to pull attention away.”
根据文章最后一段“When teenagers name their screen habits, set ending points and build fair rules with adults, they are more likely to control the screen instead of being controlled by it.”

My friend Julie and I are keen on creating a beautiful green town.
Gardening Course
Every September, our city has a special festival. Crowds of happy people go to the park, waving ribbons in their hands. That's because the gardening competition takes place there.
For Julie and me, it was a pity that we couldn’t take part in the competition, for that was also the first day of our high school. We buried ourselves in choosing courses. We wanted to learn all about plants, gardening and farming. Finally, a course called Agriculture and Wildlife came into our sight. We thought it would help us succeed as gardeners.
Project presentation
After a year’s study, Julie advised me to give a presentation. There was a small plastic model of my idea on the table. On the other side of the table, my teachers were waiting to see my project—the green farm.
“Good morning!” I said, “During my studies I’ve learned a lot about city farming. Now, I want to do something with what I’ve learned.”
I showed them the model. “This is the high street of our town. This is an old, nine-floor car park. No one has used it for the last two years and it's now for sale.”
I continued the presentation. They could see my designs on the big screen when I talked.
“I’ve designed a city farm using the car park building. There will be eight floors to farm fruit and vegetables. This design can help us collect rainwater to wet the soil. And we can also use energy from the sun to power the special growing lights.”
“I will hire the space out to local people and they will sell everything good enough for the environment in local shops. Also, the ninth floor will be for those who want to grow their own plants.”
My audience looked interested and my project got the highest marks in my class. But in the real world, it couldn’t happen because the car park was not available.
_________
Later, Julie helped me search the town for the perfect place for gardening, not in front of the Town Hall or the shopping centre. We tried to look for something different. Somewhere that was not the best neighbourhood, but a poor one. One where the road was full of holes and the pavement (人行道) was all broken. At last, we made it.
In the neighbourhood, we posted letters through people’s doors with gardening instructions. More and more people cared about that and began to plant vegetable gardens.

On the morning of July 10th, 2018, Dr. Tian Jiabing passed away at the age of 99. Most educators will be familiar with his name. Over the course of his life, he devoted 80% of his wealth to building over 200 schools and 18,000 libraries across the country since the 1980s, earning him the title of “Father of 100 Chinese Schools”.
Through years of hard work, Tian Jiabing had great achievements in business. However, in 1997, after the financial crisis (金融危机) in Asia, Tian’s businesses and foundations were influenced, making it difficult to make donations as he promised before. In order to make donations as planned, Tian, at the age of 83, decided to sell his house, in which he had lived for 38 years for 56 million HK dollars. He then donated it to some schools in China and moved into a small flat with his wife. In 2005, Tian also sold the 130,000-square-meter Tian Square for 300 million HK dollars which was later donated to over 10 universities and secondary schools.
When he was interviewed, he said, “Since I had promised organizations my donations, I decided to sell my house to help these schools. This felt like a more worthwhile and meaningful action”. In interviews, Tian expressed that education is linked to a country’s strength and cultural development. He said that spending money on education is “spending money in the most useful of places”, and that the value of education is far greater than the value of giving money.
Even though every donation was tens or hundreds of millions, Tian Jiabing lived a modest life in Hong Kong. Besides, he never cared much about his meals or transport. He was also strict with his children. He insisted that it was better to leave reputation (名声/声誉) to the next generation rather than wealth. Tian was respected by people not only because of his great honors, but also because he asked for nothing for his work. Other than his big donations, Tian also gave an example with small actions which help the society get better.

After a heavy rain, a volunteer team in a small town began to make a map of broken street lamps and blocked drains.

While you interact with others who share similar interests, you will get to know more about yourself and have a clearer idea what you want to do in the future.
Thirdly, read more books. Books allow you to learn about other people’s lives. When you learn about others’ experiences, your horizon (视野) will be broadened, and in turn you will know more about yourself as a person. So, why not read more?

Then in the same neighbourhood, we put grass over those broken old pavements for the kids to play on. Finally, we put up a sign that said, “Have fun here.”
When we finished, we were both covered in soil and completely exhausted. But Julie put an arm around my shoulders and smiled. “Not bad!” she said. “We can do more to make our town greener!”
37. The writer mentioned the gardening competition to ________.
A. change her gardening projects B. express her interest in gardening
C. discuss ways to get good prizes D. tell stories of gardening courses
38. Which is the most suitable for ________?
A. Grass Spaces B. Farming Instructions

Tian Jiabing is considered one of China’s all-time greatest philanthropists. More people will know about his spirit, inspiring more people to do good deeds together.
