Pollution is harming cities. But I am still a little bit hopeful about our planet’s future. Nature is making a comeback in many places. Even in the worst landscapes, nature is developing and regaining its own land. Wolves are moving across Europe and there are more tigers in India. I am not saying we should stop worrying about losing biodiversity (生物多样性), but the good news is that nature isn’t so fragile. And in many parts of the world, we are giving it more room to do its thing. For example, farmers are returning land to nature in some areas. The population is getting smaller. We used to think a continuing baby boom (生育高峰) was a danger to the planet. But today, couples are having half as many children as half a century ago. In fact, the fear in much of the world is that the population is becoming smaller. Our modern world depends less on materials. This century, the UK’s consumption (消耗) of materials has fallen from 16 tonnes a year per head to 11 tonnes. Why? We make much more with less by using modern ways of producing goods. And today’s wealthy people spend less money on materials and more on lifestyle experiences: eating out, taking exercise, attending concerts and so on. I agree that the worst could still happen. To avoid it, we have no choice but to act. And that means staying positive. 11. How does the writer explain people’s worries about the planet in paragraph 1? A. By telling stories. B. By describing facts. C. By offering advice. D. By comparing ideas. 12. What does the underlined word “fragile” probably mean in paragraph 2? A. Active. B. Light. C. Weak. D. Quiet. 13. According to the passage, today’s wealthy people may spend more money ▲ . A. doing sports B. buying clothes C. producing goods D. holding concerts 14. What is the passage mainly about? A. How we can protect our future planet. B. How we can control population growth. C. Why we should reduce the use of materials. D. Why we should stay hopeful about the earth. B 16 winners from 12 countries were awarded at the 18th Special Book Awards of China held in Beijing in June 2025. Aleksei Rodionov, professor of Chinese studies at Saint Petersburg University, is a winner of the award in translating. This award is the highest national award. It is presented each year to foreign authors, translators, and publishers for their great contributions in promoting Chinese publications and cultural exchanges between China and other countries. “As a sinologist (汉学家) and translator of Chinese literature, this award will encourage me to do more and do better in promoting cultural exchanges between Russia and China,” said the professor. Rodionov said that he feels a special connection with China when he thought about his journey in Chinese literature. “I was born on the Russian-Chinese border. From the moment I was born, I had a connection with China. As someone with a great interest in foreign languages, I naturally chose to learn Chinese. That’s how I started the journey of studying the Chinese language and literature,” he noted. To the professor, translation is, in fact, a very enjoyable task. “Translating Chinese literary (文学的) works is my lifelong calling. It brings me joy and gives my life a deeper sense of purpose,” he said. For decades, Rodionov has long devoted himself to translating and researching Chinese literature, having translated 26 works by Chinese authors such as Lao She. “Literary works are an important gateway to understanding Chinese culture and the Chinese people. Rodionov’s Exchange Program with China C We feel angry or guilty (内疚的) about the things we did or did not achieve, about the things we cannot have, and many other things. It seems that everyone carries their own bad emotions. But neither guilt nor anger can help us. Over time, they can be heavy weights on our shoulders. These bad emotions don’t do anything good for us at all. So you might ask yourself—is it possible to put down this heavy burden and give yourself a break? It is quite possible. Start by actually looking at your feelings How do they get inside of us? Why do we carry them for so long instead of putting them down? Can we live without them? After thinking about our bad emotions, we can find healthy ways to deal with them. Unhealthy behaviors are not the way to do this. They provide no help. Instead, there are better ways to deal with them. One of the best ways is forgiveness (原谅) . Forgiveness is a powerful tool. We should forgive ourselves first. We shouldn’t keep bad emotions inside. We must also forgive others who have made us guilty or angry. This is not always easy. But when we learn to forgive ourselves, it becomes easier to forgive others as well. There is nothing good about carrying years of emotional burdens. By forgiving ourselves and others, we can abandon our burdens and feel better about ourselves. The moment you do this, you will start to feel a lot lighter. Years of heaviness will be magically gone! You’ll start to feel like you have more energy and you’ll be much happier with your life. 19. What is the first step to remove the burden of bad emotions? A. Asking others some questions. B. Studying your emotions. C. Trying to live without them. D. Finding ways to deal with them. 20. What does the underlined word “abandon” in the last paragraph mean? A. put away B. carry on C. stay with D. give up 21. What is one of the best ways to deal with bad moods according to the text? A. Keeping bad emotions in the heart. B. Forgiveness. C. Forgetting all the sad things. D. Asking others for help. 22. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Bad moods are common in our daily life. B. We should learn to forgive ourselves and others to let go of bad moods. C. It is easy for people to get angry or feel guilty. D. Bad moods can give us heavy weights on our shoulders. 23. Which is the best title of the text? A. Put down burdens, be happier with life B. Look at your emotions, be energetic C. Better communication, more friends D. Stay with your emotions D In a video, young children call out to their mother or father; the parents enter the room smiling, turn around and call out to their own parents; the grandparents then enter smiling and call out to their parents—the great-grandparents. This kind of video is being described as the “four-generation (一代) challenge”. It started on the Chinese short-video platform, Douyin, and has since spread to social media in other countries. People from all over the world have discussed the videos and have their own understandings. "I have to give that to China. Family care is usually a strong value," wrote one Facebook user named Antoine Yupud. The "four-generation" videos have not only touched foreign viewers but also given them a deeper look into Chinese family values. In most East Asian cultures, it is common for many generations of a single family to live together in one house. This is called an extended family. In most Western countries, most families are made up of just children and their parents. In Western culture, privacy (隐私) and independence (独立) are highly valued. Kids usually move out of the house after they grow up. Many of them apply for loans (贷款) and work part-time jobs in order to pay for college and rent (房租). If they choose to continue living with their parents after becoming an adult, it can be seen as a sign of immaturity (不成熟) or failure. Although family forms in the East and West are different, the love and bonds between family members are common. That might be why the “four-generation” videos have won so many hearts around the world. 24. What is the "four-generation challenge" video mainly about? A. How family members eat together. B. How children play with their parents. C. How grandparents are well cared for. D. How four generations of one family can all live together. 25. What is paragraph 2 written to show? A. The video format is hard to be copied. B. People all over the world like the video format. C. Douyin is a great success in foreign markets. D. Foreign people don’t have such big families. 26. According to Paragraph 4, which of the following is an extended family? A. A family that many friends live together. B. A family that many generations live together. C. A family that lives in a big city. D. A family with only one child. 27. What can we learn from this passage? A. The four-generation videos help spread Chinese family values. B. Families with only one child are common in China’s modern society. C. Adults in Western countries never live with their grandparents. D. It’s seen as a failure if Chinese children live with parents after the age of 18. 28. What might be the key to making the video popular in the world? A. Foreign people’s interest about Chinese culture. B. The differences between different cultures. C. The commonly shared love and bonds in families. D. The video form that never appeared before. 四、信息还原 (共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分) One of my students has decided to study computer science abroad. One day, I asked him why he wanted to study it. Human beings are social—we like being with other people and communicating. And one effective way of communicating is speaking face to face. Intonation (语调) is one of the reasons why face-to-face communication is powerful, because it helps to express more meanings. For example, yesterday you invited your friend to go shopping at the weekend, and he texted that he’d like to. Now, when you read these words on your phone, you may think he has meant “yes”. However, without hearing his intonation, it can be very difficult to know: Did he reply with real interest, or was he just being polite? Body language makes a big difference, too. Most communication experts agree that it has the biggest influence on how we receive messages. For example, if your friend rolls his eyes (翻白眼) when he says he’d like to go shopping, you can be sure this is actually the last thing he wants to do! How we listen also plays a key role in face-to-face communication. When people speak to us, do we give them full attention, or do we think about how to reply? Do we show our interest in what they’re saying by nodding our head or looking at their eyes to encourage them to continue? Communication isn’t just about words. Even if you don’t speak a foreign language well, you’ll still be able to have a basic conversation with the right body language and intonation and show that you are listening! 67. Why does the writer quote (引用) “No man is an island. ” at the beginning of the passage? ________________________________________________________ 68. What makes face-to-face communication powerful according to the passage? ________________________________________________________ 69.
