My Favourite Singer
As a universal language, music crosses cultural boundaries and touches souls worldwide. Among numerous outstanding singers, I admire Jay Chou, a gifted Chinese singer and songwriter.
To begin with, What impresses me most is that most of his works are originally composed by himself, showing his amazing talent.what’s more, his songs perfectly combine traditional Chinese culture with modern music style, creating a unique artistic beauty. Last but not least, his songs are full of warmth and positive energy, which can always calm my anxiety and lift my spirits whenever I feel stressed.
His devotion to music sets a great example for me. To me, his songs are not just pleasant melodies, but spiritual strength accompanying my growth.
My Favourite Musician
Music serves as a universal language that heals our souls and brightens our life. When it comes to musicians, among all outstanding musicians, Beethoven,a gifted German composer unquestionably ranks as my favorite.
Despite suffering from severe hearing loss in his prime, he never abandoned his passion for music. Instead, he composed numerous masterpieces filled with hope and perseverance. His masterpiece Symphony No.9 is filled with inspiring power and hope. His music conveys positive energy, touching hearts and inspiring people to conquer hardships.
It is his persistent spirit and touching works that constantly motivate me to face difficulties bravely. To me, his music is not merely melody, but eternal power lighting up my journey.
Stepping to the yard corner, I suddenly saw someone familiar taking care of my tree. It was my father, his tall figure bathed in the soft moonlight. He knelt down gently, carefully removing weeds and loosening the soil around the tree with great patience. In an instant, everything was clear — no wonder the weak, dying little tree I had abandoned had thrived beyond expectation. While I was trapped in self-pity and overwhelmed by my flaws, my father had been silently guarding not only the little tree but also my fragile confidence. Tears blurred my vision, mixed with deep regret and heartfelt gratitude for his silent love.
From that night on, my life was completely changed. I stopped hiding from my imperfections and give up the thought that I was bound to fail. Instead of giving in to a flawed start, I began to embrace life with courage and optimism. I began to take good care of the tree every day and actively reached out to communicate and bond with others. As the little tree grew steadily taller and stronger, I also gained solid confidence and inner strength. Looking back, It dawned on me that a disadvantaged beginning couldn’t define one’s future growth, and above all, love is the best nourishment for life.

根据最后一段中的 “The Steeles’ latest StowTown Records release, Be the Reason, contains multiple songs penned by the father and son, with each having an unusual feel. 【答案】28. C 29. A 30. D 31. C
根据第一段末尾“Since the mid-1990s, devils have been facing Devil Facial Tumour Discase(DFTD)that spreads rapidly and has caused a sharp decline in populations.(自20世纪90年代中期以来,袋獾一直面临着DFTD,该病传播迅速,导致种群急剧下降。)” 和第二段开头“In response to this threat, the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program (STDP) was established, with the vision of ensuring the survival of an enduring and ecologically functional population of Tasmanian devils in the wild.(为了应对这一威胁,制定了STDP,其愿景是确保塔斯马尼亚袋獾在野外的持久和生态功能种群的生存。)”
根据第二段中的“The aim was to create a self- sustaining group that could serve as a backup population. (其目的是创建一个能够自我维持的群体,作为后备群体。)”可知,一些袋獾被迁移到新地点是为了支持整个物种的生存。故选A项。
根据第三段中的“The introduction and rapid rise of the devils, a top predator, has dramatically reduced the survival and population of possums, less so in forested areas, but greatly in grassland areas.(作为顶级捕食者的袋獾的引入和迅速崛起,极大地降低了负鼠的生存率和种群数量,在森林地区较少,但在草原地区却大大减少。)”
由文章最后一段“The scientists note that restoration of native top predators in such ecosystems could be a beneficial management tool when other prey species have become overdominant from a lack of predation.(科学家们指出,当其他猎物物种因缺乏捕食而变得过度主导时,在这种生态系统中恢复本土顶级捕食者可能是一种有益的管理工具。)”
D 33. A 34. C 35. D
根据第二段“While the mass extinction was destructive for many species, including dinosaurs, it presented an opportunity for fungi. With plentiful rotten plant matter on the ground, ants developed an evolutionary partnership with fungi that still endures today. (虽然大灭绝对包括恐龙在内的许多物种都是毁灭性的,但它为真菌提供了机会。由于地面上有大量腐烂的植物,蚂蚁与真菌形成了一种进化伙伴关系,这种关系一直持续到今天。)”可知,大灭绝让土地上出现了很多腐烂的植物,这却给真菌大量繁殖提供了条件。故选D。
【33题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段“The research, published in the journal Science, analyzed genetic data from hundreds of ant and fungi species to create detailed evolutionary trees. These genetic timelines played an important role in revealing the evolution of ants’ agricultural techniques. The study builds on Schultz’s 35 years of research into ant-fungus relationships, during which he and his team collected thousands of genetic samples from Central and South America. By comparing wild fungal species with ants’ domesticated fungus, the researchers determined that ants have been farming fungi since shortly after the asteroid impact. 故选A。
根据最后一段““Somehow, over the course of 66 million years, they’ve been able to continue to control crop disease and develop antibiotics that continue to be effective,” Schultz told Newsweek. “We’ve only been using antibiotics for less than100 years and we have major problems keeping up with resistance and developing new antibiotics.” (不知何故,在6600万年的时间里,他们能够继续控制作物疾病,开发出仍然有效的抗生素,”舒尔茨告诉《新闻周刊》。“我们使用抗生素才不到100年,我们在跟上耐药性和开发新抗生素方面存在重大问题。”)”可知, Schultz认为,人类在保持抗生素的持续有效性方面不如蚂蚁,因此以后的研究集中在这一领域,Schultz可能会同意这一观点。故选C。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题,通读全文,尤其第一段“While humans may think of agriculture as a uniquely human achievement, ants have been farming their own food for millions of years, a new study has revealed. Researchers found that ants began farming fungi (真菌) 66 million years ago, around the time an asteroid (小行星) struck Earth and caused a global mass extinction.
由下文“And because there are so many ways to express yourself in an art journal, it’s a wonderful creative outlet for both beginners and more experienced creatives.(因为在艺术日记表达自己的方式有很多,所以对于初学者和更有经验的创作者来说,这都是一个很好的创意出口。)” But for those who are more visually- minded, an art journal is a great alternative.(但对于那些更注重视觉的人来说,艺术日记是一个很好的选择。)
设空处和前一句“A sketchbook can have elements of art journaling, particularly when it comes to drawing or painting.(速写本可以包含艺术日记的元素,尤其是在绘画方面。)”是对本段首句“The focus on self- expression is where an art journal differs from a sketchbook (素描本). (艺术日记与速写本的不同之处在于对自我表达的关注)”的解释说明。F项But a sketchbook doesn’t have to include imagery that relates to your inner thoughts.(但速写本不必包括与你内心想法相关的图像。)中的a sketchbook doesn’t have to include呼应本段第一句中的 an art journal differs from a sketchbook,解释说明了素描本和艺术日记的不同之处;F项中的 inner thoughts呼应本段第一句中的 self- expression,所以本句有承上作用。故选F项。
设空处是对上一句“The point of creating a visual journal is not to make every page a masterpiece.(创建可视化日记的目的不是让每一页都成为杰作。)” You simply need to enjoy the act of creating something without worrying about if it looks good.(你只需要享受创造的行为,而不必担心它是否好看。)中的without worrying about if it looks good 呼应上一句中的 not to make every page a masterpiece,所以有承上作用。故选G项。
设空处与上一句“Many people choose to use mixed media and decorate their pages with drawing and painting materials.(许多人选择使用混合媒介,用绘画材料装饰他们的页面。)” Others prefer sticking with a single medium that they’re comfortable with.(其他人更喜欢坚持使用他们感到舒适的单一媒介。)
由下文“Size is one. If you enjoy making large drawing, for instance, then a bigger book might be best. Art journals look great when you feel the page, so whatever size you choose, make sure it combines well with the way you like to work. Another characteristic to think about is the type of pages in the book. Since it’s a good chance you’ll be using mixed media, select a book whose paper can handle both drawing and painting.(大小是一方面。例如,如果你喜欢画大图,那么一本更大的书可能是最好的。当你感觉到页面时,艺术期刊看起来很棒,所以无论你选择什么大小,都要确保它与你喜欢的工作方式很好地结合在一起。另一个需要考虑的特点是书中的页面类型。既然你很有可能使用混合媒体,那就选择一本纸可以同时处理绘画和油画的书。)”可知,这里主要讲选择艺术日记需要考虑的因素。而B项There are many considerations when it comes to picking your journal book.(在挑选日记本时,有很多考虑因素。)符合语境,由总括作用,其中picking 和本段最后一句中的select 构成了近义词复现;B项中的 many considerations 呼应下文中的 size和 the type of pages。故选B项。

Jeff Steele was born in Texas and grew up in Mississippi. A gifted singer, Jeff began writing songs when he was in high school. “I was going to be the next Lionel Richie,” he recalls with a smile, In time, however, Jeff began to write songs, and in the early 1980s formed a group called The Steeles. Within a decade, not only had the group signed a recording contract with Daywind Records, but Jeff became a staff writer for the label and moved his family to Nashville, Tennessee.
Throughout the 1990s, Jeff penned a string of hits for Daywind, including four No.1 songs for The Steeles. Not only does Jeff write for his group, but he also has his songs recorded by other artists that include Greater Vision, The Florida Boys, The Perrys, The Gaither Vocal Band and others. Jeff’s efforts have collected four BMI Awards for radio singles by Karen Peck & New River, The Inspirations, and Legacy Five, along with a popular song by The Steeles. That song also received a Dove Awards nomination (提名), as did “Not One Word” by The Collingsworth Family.
What has changed for Jeff regarding songwriting over the last three decades? “I used to write everything alone, but now I enjoy co-writing, especially with my son, Brad.” The Steeles’ latest StowTown Records release, Be the Reason, contains multiple songs penned by the father and son, with each having an unusual feel. Perhaps this is because Brad — at age 30 — is writing as a young man from the point of looking forward, and Jeff — at age 63 — is writing from a pen of wisdom and experience. This may also be part of the reason that their songs are connecting with all of us: because we, as listeners, can benefit from both generations.
24. Who might Lionel Richie be?
A. A staff writer. B. A friend of Jeff’s.
C. A well- known singer. D. A member of The Steeles.
25. What does Paragraph 2 mainly focus on?
A. Jeff’s essential role in his group. B. Jeff’s influence on other artists.
C. Jeff’s secret to success as a singer. D. Jeff’s extraordinary achievements.
26. What is special about Be the Reason?
A. It was completed by Brad himself. B. It shows intergenerational interaction.
C. It displays people from all walks of life. D. It received a Dove Awards nomination.
27. Which of the following can best describe Jeff?
A. Talented and devoted. B. Tough and generous.
C. Academic and friendly. D. Ambitious and imaginative.

There are many projects aiming to refill or broaden the biological diversity of wild animal populations that are in jeopardy. Few are more vital to survival than efforts to save the Tasmanian devil (袋獾). Since the mid-1990s, devils have been facing Devil Facial Tumour Discase(DFTD)that spreads rapidly and has caused a sharp decline in populations.
In response to this threat, the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program (STDP) was established, with the vision of ensuring the survival of an enduring and ecologically functional population of Tasmanian devils in the wild. One significant initiative of the STDP occurred in 2012 and 2013 when scientists and conservationists relocated a disease- free group of 28 devils to Maria Island off the east coast of Tasmania. The aim was to create a self- sustaining group that could serve as a backup population. Over the next four years, the devil population on Maria Island grew rapidly, reaching around 100 individuals, the predicted carrying capacity for the island.
So far so good. But new studies headed by Dr Vincent Scoleri from the University of Tasmania have revealed serious consequences for the island’s brush- tail possum (刷尾负鼠)population. The introduction and rapid rise of the devils, a top predator (捕食者), has dramatically reduced the survival and population of possums, less so in forested areas, but greatly in grassland areas.
Yet that’s not all bad news, according to the scientists. The possums themselves arrived on Maria Island only in the 1950s and have spread to new habitats such as the grasslands, where they became plant- and- animal eaters by hunting shearwater adults and chicks in nesting sites.
The scientists note that restoration of native top predators in such ecosystems could be a beneficial management tool when other prey (猎物) species have become overdominant from a lack of predation.
28. What does the underlined part “in jeopardy” in paragraph1mean?
A. Within reach. B. Beyond belief.
C. Under threat. D. Upon arrival.
29. Why were some devils moved to a new place?
A. To support the survival of the species. B. To train them to live a sustainable life.
C. To stop the spread of the deadly disease. D. To enhance the biological diversity there.
30. What did the new studies find after the re- introduction of devils?
A. Plant and animal eaters decreased dramatically. B. Possums moved from grasslands to forests.
C. Devils brought disaster to many native species. D. Devils greatly impacted possums’ survival.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Devils harm all native species. B. Possums are a recent arrival.
C. Top predators can restore ecosystem balance. D. Possums will survive without predators.
D
While humans may think of agriculture as a uniquely human achievement, ants have been farming their own food for millions of years, a new study has revealed. Researchers found that ants began farming fungi (真菌) 66 million years ago, around the time an asteroid (小行星) struck Earth and caused a global mass extinction.
While the mass extinction was destructive for many species, including dinosaurs, it presented an opportunity for fungi. With plentiful rotten plant matter on the ground, ants developed an evolutionary partnership with fungi that still endures today. Over time, this relationship grew stronger, with ants improving their agricultural practices and developing advanced methods 27 million years ago, a process similar to the domestication of crops by humans. “Ants have been practicing agriculture and fungus farming for much longer than humans have existed,” Ted Schultz, lead author of the new paper, said in a statement. “We could probably learn something from the agricultural success of these ants over the past 66 million years.” Fungi-farming ants are particularly diverse in the Americas and the Caribbean, with nearly 250 different species engaged in this practice.
The research, published in the journal Science, analyzed genetic data from hundreds of ant and fungi species to create detailed evolutionary trees.
The ants have bacteria that can produce antibiotics (抗生素) to fight off diseases attacking their fungi. “Somehow, over the course of 66 million years, they’ve been able to continue to control crop disease and develop antibiotics that continue to be effective,” Schultz told Newsweek. “We’ve only been using antibiotics for less than100 years and we have major problems keeping up with resistance and developing new antibiotics.”
32. What can be inferred from paragraph 2?
A. Ants began to co-exist with fungi 27 million years ago.
B. Around 250 species of ants worldwide took part in fungi farming.
C. Ants used more advanced ways of practicing agriculture than humans.
D. Dead plant matter provided conditions for fungi to expand.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly focus on?
A. The methods in the research process. B. The research findings on fungi farming.
C. The analysis of the genetic timeline. D. The impact of the asteroid event.
34. Which statement would Schultz probably agree with?
A. Human history is much longer than that of ant agriculture.
B. The antibiotics produced by ants could be used to treat humans.
C. Further study could be focused on how to keep antibiotics effective.
D. It’s meaningless for humans to follow ants’ success story in farming.
35. What’s the best title for this text?
A. Ants are smarter than humans B. Agriculture isn’t unique to humans
C. Ants provided solutions for human farming D. Ants mastered agriculture long before humans

You might have heard that keeping a journal is a great way to record your thoughts and understand your emotions. Typical journaling involves only writing. 36 And because there are so many ways to express yourself in an art journal, it’s a wonderful creative outlet for both beginners and more experienced creatives.
The focus on self- expression is where an art journal differs from a sketchbook (素描本). A sketchbook can have elements of art journaling, particularly when it comes to drawing or painting. 37
Art journaling is a way to practice self- care. It encourages you to take a little time for yourself— even if it’s just for 15minutes a day. When you look back at what you’ve written or drawn, you can gain valuable insight into the challenges in your life. The point of creating a visual journal is not to make every page a masterpiece. ____38____ Remember, it’s just for you!
Art journaling is completely customizable (可定制的)depending on your skills and interests. Many people choose to use mixed media and decorate their pages with drawing and painting materials. ____39____ The most important thing when beginning your art journal, however, is selecting the right book.
40 Size is one. If you enjoy making large drawing, for instance, then a bigger book might be best. Art journals look great when you feel the page, so whatever size you choose, make sure it combines well with the way you like to work. Another characteristic to think about is the type of pages in the book. Since it’s a good chance you’ll be using mixed media, select a book whose paper can handle both drawing and painting.
A. Also, you become aware of your style.
B. There are many considerations when it comes to picking your journal book.
C. This way, you’ll save not only your money, but also your nerves.
D. Others prefer sticking with a single medium that they’re comfortable with.
E. But for those who are more visually- minded, an art journal is a great alternative.
F. But a sketchbook doesn’t have to include imagery that relates to your inner thoughts.
G. You simply need to enjoy the act of creating something without worrying about if it looks good.

Stricken by poliomyelitis (小儿麻痹症) at a young age, I suffered a disabled leg and ugly teeth. These flaws (缺陷)left me extremely shy and insecure. I kept to myself and rarely interacted with others. Though stuck in self-doubt, I was dearly loved by my father, who always comforted and encouraged me patiently.
One warm spring, my father brought home several young trees and asked each child to plant one. As luck would have it, I got the weakest of them all, a thin, dying little tree with yellowish leaves. “Whoever grows the strongest tree — or whoever tries their best — will get a wonderful gift,” my father promised with a gentle smile.
I also hoped to win the gift, yet low self-esteem weighed heavily on me. Looking at my pitiful little tree, I couldn’t help seeing myself in it — weak, flawed, and destined to be left behind. The thought only deepened my despair. “Even if I tried, this tree would never stand a chance.” I murmured bitterly. Convinced I would end up failing, I refused to make any effort. I planted the tree carelessly and watered it just twice. Later, I stayed away from the corner on purpose. My brothers tended their trees devotedly to compete for the prize, while I pretended not to care.
Weeks slipped past before I knew it. Out of a strange urge, I plucked up courage to check on my tree. Much to my surprise, the ignored little tree grew far stronger than my brothers’. My father said gently, “See? This little tree was the weakest of all, yet it has become the strongest. Never judge a life by how it starts.” Then he handed me the promised gift.
For the first time, a ray of hope welled up inside me. One quiet moonlit night, unable to fall asleep, I made up my mind to go outside and look after my tree.
