When I came home on the first day of every school year, there was always a new book on my bed. My mother lived for tradition-especially on holidays. Knowing how much I loved to read, a new book was the perfect way to begin a new school year for me, and it was a reminder of how much she cared.
I carried my mother's thoughtfulness into my own children's lives. When it was time for them to start school, we began our own traditions. For us, it was all about our favorite pizza at dinner and High/ Low, a game in which the kids shared their best and not-so-good memories of that first school day. They loved the game so much that they made me share mine.
The start of a new school year can be exciting or frightening for children, but creating a family tradition can help beat the first-day-of-school blues. Kristin Taylor wishes her parents had recorded her childhood more, so she's promised to do that for her kids. “I want to remember the moments that seem little but end up being the stories we retell as our kids grow up,” says Taylor, mother to three children. Each year on the first school day, she photographs her children in their school uniforms. “I plan on giving them a book of those photos when they graduate,” she says.
The book “The Kissing Hand” has meant a lot to Marie Karns and her daughter, Lily. In the story, a baby raccoon(浣熊) cries to his mom that he doesn't want to go to school. The mom passes down a tradition from her mom to her little boy. She kisses the inside of his palm (手心) so he can take her love to school with him. “We read the book every year and then I kissed the palm of her hand so she could take it to school with her, “says Karns.
Traditions create memories and one day, when the kids are older, they will be a great way to look back and remember those new beginnings.
24.What did the author's children do on their first school day?
A. They went out to a restaurant to have dinner. B. They read a new book together.
C. They discussed how to start a new family tradition. D. They described their experiences that day in a game.
25.What can we learn about Kristin Taylor?
A. She values childhood memories. B. She works as a photographer.
C. She is strict with her children. D. She is good at telling stories.
26.Which one is NOT TRUE according to the passage?
A. The writer's mother put a new book on her bed on the first day of every school year.
B. Kristin Taylor takes photos of her kids in school uniforms every first school day.
C. In The Kissing Hand, the mother raccoon kisses her kid's forehead.
D. Family traditions can help children feel better on the first day of school.
27. What is the author's attitude towards family traditions?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Indifferent. D. Negative.

The decision to delay(延迟) morning arrival times in Nanjing has caused a wide discussion about how to balance students' academic needs with their health. While some people support the change, others worry about its possible effects.
Supporters of the policy argue that sleep is very important for teenagers’ growth. They point out that students who do not get enough sleep often feel tired, worried, or unable to focus. In contrast, well-rested students are more likely to take an active part in class and perform better in exams. Some experts also note that a good breakfast plays an important role in students’ health and learning. With a later start time, students can have enough time to eat well and prepare for the day.
People who disagree with the policy, however, express concerns about the influence on academic performance. They argue that reducing morning study time might lead to lower grades, especially for students who need more practice or review. Some parents worry that students will become lazy if they do not have to get up early. They also question whether schools can really improve classroom efficiency enough to make up for the lost time.
To better study the effects of the new schedule, education departments in Nanjing plan to collect feedback from students, parents, and teachers over the next few months. They will record changes in students' sleep quality, attendance rates (出勤率), and academic performance. If the results show that the policy is beneficial, it may be carried out in more schools. If problems arise, further changes may be made.
In the long run, experts suggest that improving students’ well-being requires the efforts of schools, families, and society. Schools should not only change schedules but also improve teaching quality . Parents should help their children develop good sleep habits and create a quiet environment at home. Students themselves should learn to manage their time wisely and avoid staying up late. Only in this way can the goal of reducing burden and improving quality be truly achieved.
28. What do supporters of the policy believe?
A. Students should get up as early as possible. B. Sleep is not important for academic performance.
C. Well-rested students are more likely to perform better.
D. After-school services are more important than sleep.
29. How does the author develop the argument in the passage?
A. By listing historical events related to education. B. By presenting both supporting and opposing views.
C. By describing personal experiences of students. D. By comparing different countries' school systems.
30. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The policy will be carried out in all schools in Nanjing.
B. Schools play a more important role than families in students ' well-being.
C. Students can make up for lost learning time by studying more efficiently.
D. The new schedule will probably be changed according to future results.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Delayed school start times: A heated argument over it
B. Sleep problems: A hidden trouble among adolescents
C. School schedules: Effective ways to promote teenagers' development
D. Joint Efforts: Solutions to teenagers' academic needs
D

High School Study Skills
Excited about starting high school? You should be! High school is one of the most fantastic experiences of your life! 36 This is the time when you begin to develop the skills that you will use in college and in the working world. As you go forward in these important years, you should change your study habits and skills.
Improve note-taking skills. To some degree, high school will bring a new challenge for students who learned to rely on textbooks during junior school. 37 This means students must learn to take notes with careful attention — or the information will be lost! The key to take good notes is identifying the most important things to write down.
38 One skill that doesn't get so much attention is the ability to really listen! In order to take good class notes, you need to listen carefully in class and mark each word that is repeated. Once you learn to become an active listener, you will be able to study much better.
Get ready for class discussions. As you are preparing for the next day, write down anything that might worth a good discussion. 39 When classroom discussions do arise, you should record important points on different opinions. This is the sort of thing that will pay off on your test.
Get more organized. In junior school you learned to use many folders, and you met different teaching styles. This continues in high school; you will have to become more organized and take on much more responsibility when it comes to keeping track of homework. 40
A. Learn how to listen better.
B. Be prepared to discuss further.
C. Think about what to note down.
D. Remember to increase your test prepare time.
E. In fact, high school sets the stage for college and adulthood.
F. It's important to keep checklists to complete all of your homework.
G. In high school, teachers will introduce some new ideas beyond textbooks.

Dear Noah,
I'm so glad to hear that you are planning the after-class practice activity with the theme of "Exploring Chinese Culture". Here are my suggestions.
Firstly, you can organize a visit to a local Chinese museum. There, you can see various cultural relics and gain a deeper understanding of the long history and rich heritage of Chinese culture. Secondly, having a traditional Chinese food-making activity would be great. By making and tasting traditional Chinese dishes like dumplings, you can experience the charm of Chinese food culture.
I believe this activity will be a huge success. I sincerely wish you and your classmates an enjoyable and fruitful exploration.
Yours,
Li Hua
