第一节 演讲稿(约80词)
My Views on Overusing AI Learning Tools
Dear classmates,
Nowadays many of us tend to depend too much on AI learning tools to finish homework. In my opinion, AI can offer help, but over‑relying on it will stop us from thinking independently.
Here are my suggestions. First, we should try to work out problems on our own before turning to AI. Second, use AI only to check answers or get hints instead of copying results directly.
Let us make AI our helper, not our replacement!
Thank you!
第二节 读后续写(参考范文)
Paragraph 1: A week later, the bell rang and the Language Arts class began again.
Mr. Johnson reminded the class that fifteen students would share their stories. Lily’s heart beat fast. Her hands shook a little when her name was called. She took a deep breath, walked slowly to the front, and began to read her story about the beach house. Her voice was quiet at first, but soon she forgot her nervousness and poured her feelings into every sentence.
Paragraph 2: After Lily finished her reading, the clapping from her classmates continued for a long time.
Lily could hardly believe her eyes. Many of her classmates wore big smiles, saying how wonderful the story was. Mr. Johnson gave her a warm thumbs‑up. For the first time, shy Lily felt seen and accepted. She realized that she could touch others with her words, and she no longer feared speaking in front of the whole class.

At a summer camp in a Southern California suburb, the grandmas were in charge. Every week, they taught a group of 8-to-14-year-olds life skills like how to cook and sew (缝制). “Loneliness is something that seniors are challenged with, and they love having younger people around them,” said Zainab Hussain, a program manager at Olive Community Services, a nonprofit that hosted the camp to bring teens and elderly adults together.
In the camp, a small room was filled with energy as the kids chatted and chewed on snacks. Some grandmas were around and watched, content to just be around the youngsters.
Haqiqah Abdul Rahim, one of the grandmas serving as the instructor for sewing, said many kids don’t learn these skills at school, so they’re filling in a gap. She stood in front of the room at the start of the activity, holding up various tools and explaining what they were. Rahim also didn’t get to spend a lot of time with her grandchildren because they didn’t live close. “It is heartwarming to be able to interact with those who love being around you,” Rahim said.
The summer camp was held in partnership with the Golden Connections Club, started by 14-year-old high school student Leena Albinali. She lived with her grandma but realized other students didn’t have the same opportunity to spend as much time with their grandparents. She also learned about ageism (年龄歧视) and other challenges faced by senior adults in one of her classes.
“They treat us like we’re their grandchildren,” Albinali said. “We share what we know about artificial intelligence and its impact on our lives, and the elders share their life stories and advice. One of the most important things they’ve shared with me is to live in the moment, something that’s taken on new meaning for me — The people we have right now are not going to be with us forever.”
24. What is the purpose of the summer camp?
A. To teach kids life skills. B. To help seniors fight loneliness.
C. To educate kids to respect seniors. D. To connect generations.
25. How does Rahim find her job of teaching sewing in the camp?
A. It offers career options to kids in future. B. It makes up for the lessons at school.
C. It inspires kids’ interest in her profession. D. It reminds her to contact her grandchildren.
26. What inspired Albinali to set up Golden Connections Club?
A. Her school’s support. B. Seniors’ common voice.
C. Her own experience. D. Ageism her grandma got.
27. What message does Albinali want to convey in the last paragraph?
A. The enriching exchange across generations. B. The curiosity of seniors about technology.
C. The wisdom of the seniors’ life experience. D. The shared challenges facing generations.

In Three-River-Source National Park of Qinghai, artificial nests installed on power towers help protect plateau birds while reducing risks to power grid (电网) operations.
The “Nest of Life” project launched by the State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company provides safer nesting sites for birds that frequently use power towers as high resting places on the treeless grasslands of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Known as China’s “water tower”, the Three-River-Source region is home to more than 80 rare and protected bird species. As power grids expanded from 2011 to 2016, transmission towers became ideal nesting spots for large raptors (猛禽). Power towers are often the highest points where birds can better observe prey (猎物) on the ground. However, nests built too close to power lines pose risks to both birds and the grid. Birds’ wings or nesting materials can come into contact with conductors, causing short circuits, power cuts or electrocution (触电). To address the problem, the company guided them to safer nesting locations on the towers.
In 2016 the artificial nest model installed on 20 towers was tested. Later workers developed various nests for different conditions: larger wind-sand-resistant vine nests for big birds and smaller cold-proof bamboo-basket nests for Yushu area. Nests are raised 40-60 cm away from conductors; some bare wires were replaced with non-conductive ones to further protect both birds and power lines.
Every April and May, workers examine nest stability, check bamboo linings for damage and carry out repairs. The locals also help record bird activity. So far, 6,053 artificial nests have been installed across Qinghai. The project offers a practical model for balancing infrastructure development with biodiversity reservation on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
28. What is the main purpose of the “Nest of Life” project?
A. To protect tall trees. B. To offer safe nesting places.
C. To increase the bird species. D. To replace power towers.
29. Why do large raptors prefer to nest on power towers?
A. To escape from risks. B. To seek ideal partners.
C. To search nesting materials. D. To detect prey easily.
30. What can we learn about the artificial nests?
A. They are tested every other year. B. They have different sizes.
C. They can record bird activity. D. They are all made of bare wires.
31. Which of the following best describes the project?
A. Costly and risky B. Complex and worthless.
C. Workable and beneficial. D. Temporary and doubtful.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are widely regarded as a vital solution to cut urban air pollution and lower dependence on fossil fuels. Some governments, including the United Kingdom, have announced plans to ban new petrol and diesel car sales from 2030, showing strong policy support for a cleaner transport future. Even so, building a society fully powered by electric vehicles will not be an easy journey, with several challenges yet to be overcome.
To begin with, compared with traditional fuel-powered cars, electric vehicles cannot travel as far on a single battery charge (充电). Secondly, charging infrastructure (基础设施) is still poorly built; most areas do not have enough charging stations. Such problems lead to “range anxiety” among potential car buyers, which holds back the overall transition to electric mobility.
On the technological front, solid-state batteries are viewed as a promising breakthrough. Though currently used mainly in smartphones, they are expected to enter the car market in the coming years, offering quicker charging times and an extended driving range (续航里程). This could significantly enhance the appeal of EVs to the general public.
Economically, the high price remains a major barrier for consumers. To address this issue, a number of governments have introduced policy supports, such as tax relief, purchase subsidies (补贴), and special traffic lanes reserved for EV owners, helping to boost adoption rates. Norway serves as a leading example, with the highest number of electric cars per person globally.
Even with these positive developments, specialists such as Colin Herron remind people that electric vehicles themselves cannot bring a zero-carbon future. Their environmental value is largely determined by where their charging electricity come from. If the electricity is mainly produced from fossil fuels, EVs can only achieve very limited emission cuts. In addition, manufacturing EVs — especially their batteries — carries a substantial (大量的) carbon footprint. Therefore, a truly sustainable transport system may require not only cleaner cars, but also greater use of public transport and a societal move toward fewer and shorter private vehicle trips.
32. What main difficulties do EVs meet?
A. Short-lived batteries and rising fuel prices.
B. High prices of infrastructure and policy support of petrol cars.
C. Limited ranges and insufficient charging facilities.
D. Limited production of fossil fuels and insufficient potential buyers.
33. What actions do governments take to popularize EVs?
A. By building more city public-parking lots.
B. By sharply taxing gasoline-powered vehicles.
C. By enhancing the quality of public transport services.
D. By offering tax cuts, subsidies and special lanes.
34. What is implied by Colin Herron’s warning?
A. EV benefits rely on clean electricity sources. B. EVs will never reach real-green standards.
C. Fuel-car-banning deadlines are unreasonable. D. Battery technology decides green-transport success.
35. What’s the main idea of the text?
A. New EVs gain wide popularity among ordinary users.
B. EVs hold a bright future alongside various problems.
C. Charging systems face serious investment shortages.
D. High costs become a heavy burden for auto factories.

It was the first week of Lily’s middle school. The bell’s ringing brought her out of her daydreaming. She nervously gathered her books, preparing to reach another classroom for the next new class.
Lily followed the other kids and rushed into the hallway. Others walked in groups, chatted, and laughed, using the break to socialize. Lily, instead, walked alone along the wall of the hallway, with her head down. She was a shy girl, afraid to speak in front of other kids, and didn’t think others would like her.
Lily finally sat in Mr. Johnson’s Language Arts class nervously. “Welcome to Language Arts,” said Mr. Johnson. He told jokes as he talked about English. Lily forgot to daydream and laughed along with the rest of the class. “We’ll have some fun with language,” he said. “Just wait and see.”
Fun was far beyond what Lily desired. She just wanted to be like other kids — running with friends in the hallway, laughing and joking between classes. Reminded of her pimply (长粉刺的) face, she felt hopeless and disappointed.
“Take out a piece of paper,” the teacher continued, when pointing at words on the blackboard. “Write for the next thirty minutes on this topic.” Lily began writing crazily as idea after idea fought for recognition in her head. The final result was a short story about a beautiful beach house. As she wrote, she could smell the salty air, hear the crashing waves and feel the pull of the sand beneath her feet. For just a moment, she forgot where she was. She was lost in the story.
“OK, pass your papers forward,” said the teacher. “Let’s see what we have.” For the rest of the class time, the teacher read each individual work aloud. Lily originally thought it would be awkward. However, she was gradually attracted by the excitement in the teacher’s voice. “He’s actually enjoying this,” she thought. When the class would be soon over, there were still fifteen students’ papers not read, including Lily’s paper. Then, Mr. Johnson announced his decision, asking these students to read their work themselves in front of the class next class.
