Being a teenager can be exciting, but it can also be full of challenges. Many teenagers struggle with problems such as too much homework, poor time management, and pressure from parents and teachers.
Problem 1: Too much homework
Many students complain that they have too much homework and don’t have time for hobbies or rest. This can lead to stress and even health problems.
Advice: Try to make a homework timetable. Break large tasks into smaller ones and finish them step by step. Also, talk to your teachers if you really feel the workload is too heavy. They may understand your situation.
Problem 2: Poor time management
Some teenagers find it hard to balance study, hobbies, and rest. They often stay up late and feel tired the next day.
Advice: Make a daily plan. Decide what you need to do most and do it first. Don’t put things off until the last minute. Remember to leave some time for fun and exercise.
Problem 3: Pressure from parents
Many parents have high expectations for their children. This can make teenagers feel anxious and worried.
Advice: Communicate with your parents. Tell them how you feel honestly. They may not realize how much pressure you are under. A good talk can often solve problems.
Remember, teenage problems are normal. The key is to face them bravely and find the right ways to deal with them.

Everyone has got two personalities—the one that is shown to the world and the other that is secret and real. You don’t show your secret personality when you’re awake because you can control yourself, but when you’re asleep, your sleeping position shows the real you. On a normal night, of course, you often change your sleeping positions. The important position that best shows your secret personality is the one that you go to sleep in.
If you go to sleep on your back, you’re a very open person. You normally trust people and you are easily influenced by new ideas. You don’t like to make people unhappy, so you never express your real feelings. You’re quite shy and you aren’t very confident.
If you sleep on your stomach, you are a person who likes to keep secrets. You worry a lot and you’re always easily becoming sad. You never want to change your ideas, but you are satisfied with your life the way it is. You usually live for today not for tomorrow.
If you sleep curled up (蜷缩), you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and often protect yourself from being hurt, so you are very defensive. You’re shy and you don’t usually like meeting people. You like to be on your own.
If you sleep on your side, you have usually got a well-balanced personality. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You’re usually careful. You have a confident personality. You sometimes feel worried, but you don’t often get unhappy. You always say what you think, even if it makes people angry.
24. When does the sleeping position best show your secret personality?
A. In the daytime. B. At the beginning of sleep.
C. At night. D. During the deep sleep.
25. Tina hardly tells her secrets to her friends. She probably goes to sleep ________.
A. on her stomach B. on her back C. on her side D. curled up
26. What does the passage tell us?
A. Sleeping on your side is the best way of sleeping.
B. Changing positions will cause sleeping problems.
C. Enough sleep makes people look better and healthier.
D. Sleeping positions show people’s secret personalities.

How many boundaries (边界) do we cross without realizing it?
On Aug 30, I stood at the starting line of the Sydney Marathon, excited to take part in my first World Marathon Majors (世界马拉松大满贯). I had just traveled all the way from China to Australia. Around me were about 40,000 runners from over 140 countries.
The first 24 kilometers felt almost easy as I moved through the streets of Sydney. Then I met a boundary, one I could not “see” but could otherwise feel in my body. At 24 kilometers, my legs became heavy, and running suddenly felt like a challenge.
My pacer noticed the change in my running form and showed me a small adjustment that helped me save energy. He was from Sydney. As we ran together, he talked about pacers he had met from the US, the UK, Norway, and China.
It reminded me of a friend I met during a half marathon in Tokyo in 2024; we finished the race together. In 2025, she sent me information about entering the Sydney Marathon. I managed to get a place, but she did not. Although she was not there on race day, her support somehow played a key role in helping me get to the starting line.
That is what I love about running. It provides us with more boundaries to break: the borders between countries, the bonds (纽带) between friends, and the connections between strangers. When I finally crossed the finish line, I realized that the marathon was never just a race. The farther I ran, the more boundaries I broke—and the more connected my world became.
27. What do we know about the Sydney Marathon?
A. It was the writer’s first marathon. B. It started at the Harbour Bridge.
C. The runners came from many countries. D. The whole race was 24 kilometers long.
28. What happened to the writer at 24 kilometers?
A. She hurt her legs in an accident. B. She decided to slow down and walk.
C. She began to feel tired but kept running. D. She thought about giving up the race.
29. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The pacer’s talk about other pacers. B. The writer’s run with her friend.
C. The change in the writer’s running. D. The pacer’s advice on the writer’s form.
30. What does the writer want to show by mentioning her friend?
A. She wished her friend had been there. B. One cannot finish a marathon without others’ help.
C. Marathons have helped her connect with others. D. There are many talented runners in the world.

To talk about food and eating is to talk about a common subject like sleeping or breathing. But most of us don’t think about food until we start feeling hungry. ____31____
However, what, where, when and how we eat say a lot about who we are. Do you eat rice or noodles? Do you use chopsticks? Do you eat with your mouth open wide? ____32____ Even when we are not trying to say anything, food and the ways we eat in some ways tell who and what we are.
Most people think what they eat and the ways they eat are normal, while others are a bit strange if they don’t eat the same food or eat in the same way. In fact, choices in foods are fixed (固定的) and shaped by customs (风俗). As we all know, we often cook tomatoes with eggs and we eat noodles on birthdays. These social habits are neither accidental (意外的) nor personal. We learn our eating habits very early in life and our childhood foods probably have a special meaning for us forever. That’s because they are connected with the people and the things we love. ____33____
People often use food and eating to mark the seasons such as eating dumplings at winter solstice (冬至). Also, holidays are chances for special foods. ____34____ For example, at the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese eat moon cakes as a symbol of getting together.
As you can see, food and eating have something to do with people’s shared experiences. They mark both customs and cultures in some ways.
A. So it does not receive much notice.
B. What you eat can tell how healthy you are.
C. All these eating habits send messages about you.
D. Parents often ask us to cook food when they are busy.
E. Sometimes, people even explain why they eat certain things on these days.
F. Mum’s spring rolls and Dad’s tasty fish bring back feelings of love and comfort.

One day her head-teacher advised her ____40____ (express) her true feelings calmly. Amy wondered ____41____ she could cut back on after-school classes so that she could keep painting.
To her surprise, her parents listened carefully. “It is quite normal ____42____ teenagers to meet such troubles,” they said.

Australia has made a new law that bans (禁止) kids under 16 from using social media. This is the first law of its kind in the world. Platforms (平台) like TikTok, Facebook and others must make sure users are over 16. If they don’t, they could face fines (罚款) of up to 33 million. The government says the purpose of the law is to protect kids from online dangers such as harmful content (内容) and bullying.
But not everyone agrees. Some experts think it might harm kids who use social media to connect with friends or find support. For example, some lonely kids might lose a place where they feel understood. The law has other challenges, too. Social media companies say it will be hard to check users’ ages. What’s worse, some people also say it might push kids to use illegal (非法的) websites, which could be even more dangerous.
Supporters of the law think the law is very necessary. Sonya Ryan, whose daughter was harmed by an online stranger, said it’s a big step in protecting children. Others, like Senator Maria Kovacic, said social media companies should have already been refusing young users.
However, mental (心理) health experts warn that the law could cut children off from positive experiences, like learning new things or joining communities. They also say the law was made too quickly and might not work as planned. While many parents welcome the law, others believe it should be up to families, not the government, to decide what’s best for their kids.
