A
In Ukraine, secondary school students usually have seven lessons each day. The first class starts at 8:30, but everybody has to come at 8:15 and get ready for studying. We usually have short breaks (10 minutes each), but there is one long break for lunch after the third lesson. It lasts for 30 minutes; everybody has a short rest and recharges (恢复精力) with food. While eating, we enjoy chatting and sharing some interesting stories with each other.
Other breaks are too short to do that. After one class, we have to put our things into our bags and rush to our next classroom, which is usually on another floor. Schools are often three or four-story buildings, so we may walk over 4,000 steps in a school day (not including PE lessons). Luckily, it is much easier to be at school because of our friends.
I have known my best friend, Nika, for almost eight years. We have been studying together since primary school. However, during the first five years, Nika and I were only acquaintances. We sometimes communicated a little, borrowed some school objects from each other, and played games together.
But something changed between us when we went to sixth grade. Once, she invited me to go for a walk to the nearest park after school. We enjoyed speaking about our school, studying, and interests. It turned out that Nika and I both like the same music, have similar food preferences, and love watching the same TV series. The more time we spent together, the more we felt a deep connection. Within four months, we became a supportive team that helped each other learn and work through challenges together.
With the new school year here, I can’t wait to see my friends again. I believe that there is no other place like school where we can learn and make friends. School is not just a building with people; it is a huge part of our lives!

In this age of technology, where everything connects to the cloud or needs an app, it takes a simple bit of engineering to stand out. BAGO, a seatbelt (安全带) for bags, clearly fits into this category (类别).
The best place to put a bag of groceries or even take-out food when you are driving alone is the passenger seat, right next to you. Not only can you keep an eye on it while you drive, but it is also unlikely that you will leave it in the car and have to make a trip back to get it later. However, bags that tend to get greasy (油污的) or leak liquid are not worthy of a seat of honor and will be put where they belong, on the floor. If you are with me so far, then you surely wouldn’t mind shelling out 22 dollars to get your hands on BAGO, a tool that secures the bag there.
The genius behind the design is Atlanta-based Dan Stevenson who has been improving upon the idea that struck him over two years ago. He has taken pains to ensure that BAGO is easy to install (安装) and use and does not damage your glove box in any way. It also ensures that you concentrate on the road while driving and not on what might spill when you take a turn.
The material used on BAGO is the same as that used on seatbelts in cars. Plus, the belt is adjustable, so it can be used with bags of all sizes. The best part is that it can be folded and put out of sight until the next time you need it.
BAGO isn’t available in any commercial establishments but only on crowdsourcing platforms. So, when you put down your 22 dollars, it will take a while before you get to use it. The earliest would be June of this year but as we commonly see with pre-orders, some amount of delay (延迟) should be expected. Nevertheless, you can order this from any part of the world and still get it delivered.
14. What does the author want to tell us in paragraph 2?
A. The experience of using BAGO. B. The necessity of using BAGO.
C. The habit of using BAGO. D. The cost of using BAGO.
15. What do we know about BAGO ?
A. It is environment-friendly. B. It helps drivers corner well.
C. It is convenient and practical. D. It performs various functions.
16. What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A. BAGO is worth the price. B. BAGO is commonly seen.
C. It is difficult to order BAGO. D. It takes patience to get BAGO.
17. What is the purpose of this text?
A. To praise a designer. B. To promote a product.
C. To advocate proper driving habits. D. To discourage the use of plastic bags.
C
Going from middle school to high school can be difficult, as students are faced with new academic (学业的) and social challenges. Before the first day of high school, there are things every soon-to-be high school freshman and their families should know.
People who have a fixed mindset (思维倾向) believe that they are born to be great or weak. On the other hand, people that have a growth mindset believe that their greatness or weakness is because of their own actions. I totally agree that students should have a growth mindset. I don’t expect any student to move from just passing a subject to an A+. It’s going to take time and focused effort; just keep working on it.
Parents should prepare students to fight the battle “on the pillow” and “in the kitchen”. When I say “pillow” I mean sleep. Not having enough sleep can have some surprising effects on students, including improper behavior, anxiety and poor grades. The second weapon (武器) is eating healthy and balanced meals. Studies show that students who eat nutritious meals and who exercise 60 minutes a day remain more attentive during the school day and experience improved academic achievement and grades. This last “secret” weapon is not to have over-scheduled (安排过度的) time. Make sure students know how to set realistic plans and how to say no to tasks and activities that aren’t important to them.
A lot of students know each other from primary and middle school. They are in their “comfort zones”, feeling they have a sense of control over and expectations for their relationships. But come the first real day of high school, that will all change. The reason I encourage high school freshmen to step out of their comfort zones, though often scary, is that comfort zones get boring and there are many kinds of people to get to know. Let’s encourage them to get involved, have fun and play.
18. Which of the following represents a fixed mindset?
A. My mother is not good at chemistry either.
B. I’m at the starting point of my potential.
C. I should start studying a little earlier next time.
D. It’s okay if I fail; at least I’ve learned something.
19. What is the third weapon mainly about?
A. Developing time management skills. B. Owning the ability to say no.
C. Balancing schoolwork and play. D. Enjoying good health.
20. What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. The sense of control.
B. The value of friendship.
C. The feeling that they become helpless.
D. The feeling that they have control over relationships.
A. These melodies usually pop up when our brains are resting, like when we are daydreaming or doing boring, repetitive work. Most people hardly notice this.
B. But don’t worry. Experts say this is just a normal reaction of our brain and not a sign that something is wrong with your health.
C. Have you ever had a song stuck in your head that just won’t stop playing? This is a common thing called an “earworm.”
D. However, sometimes the song can become so annoying that it makes it hard for a person to focus on work or even fall asleep at night.
E. So, instead of trying to fight the music, the best way is to just accept it as a harmless, little musical friend in your head.

M: Do they use whatever they find?

M: Great, maybe we could suggest some mixed activities where both groups practice together. It would be a fun way to practice both English and French and meet new people.
W: Good idea. I’ll bring it up with the club leader next time. By the way, do you have any advice on improving vocabulary? I feel like I keep using the same words.
M: I try to read a lot. Articles, books, anything in English. I write down new words and their meanings when I come across them. It helps me remember them better. Maybe you could try something similar with French.

School is not just a building with people; it is a huge part of our lives!(我相信没有其他地方像学校一样,我们可以学习和交朋友。

B 15. C 16. D 17. B

根据第二段“The best place to put a bag of groceries or even take-out food when you are driving alone is the passenger seat, right next to you. Not only can you keep an eye on it while you drive, but it is also unlikely that you will leave it in the car and have to make a trip back to get it later. However, bags that tend to get greasy (油污的) or leak liquid are not worthy of a seat of honor and will be put where they belong, on the floor. If you are with me so far, then you surely wouldn't mind shelling out 22 dollars to get your hands on BAGO, a tool that secures the bag there.
根据第三段“He has taken pains to ensure that BAGO is easy to install (安装) and use and does not damage your glove box in any way. (他费尽心思确保BAGO易于安装和使用,并且不会以任何方式损坏你的手套箱。)”以及第四段“The material used on BAGO is the same as that used on seatbelts in cars. Plus, the belt is adjustable, so it can be used with bags of all sizes. The best part is that it can be folded and put out of sight until the next time you need it. (BAGO使用的材料与汽车安全带相同。此外,带子是可调节的,所以它可以用于各种大小的袋子。最好的部分是它可以折叠起来,在下次需要之前不占地方。)”可知,BAGO安装方便、材质可靠、可调节可折叠,既方便又实用。
【16题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“BAGO isn’t available in any commercial establishments but only on crowdsourcing platforms. So, when you put down your 22 dollars, it will take a while before you get to use it. The earliest would be June of this year but as we commonly see with pre-orders, some amount of delay (延迟) should be expected.

A 19. A 20. D
根据第二段“People who have a fixed mindset (思维倾向) believe that they are born to be great or weak. (持有固定思维的人认为他们天生就优秀或弱小。)”可知,持有固定思维的人认为能力是天生的、不可改变的。
【19题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段“This last 'secret' weapon is not to have over-scheduled (安排过度的) time. Make sure students know how to set realistic plans and how to say no to tasks and activities that aren't important to them. (这最后一个“秘密”武器是不要有安排过度的时间。确保学生知道如何制定切实可行的计划,以及如何对不重要的任务和活动说不。)”可知,第三个“武器”主要是关于不要过度安排时间,学会制定切实可行的计划并拒绝不重要的任务和活动,即培养时间管理能力。
【20题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段“They are in their 'comfort zones', feeling they have a sense of control over and expectations for their relationships. But come the first real day of high school, that will all change. (他们处于自己的“舒适区”,感觉对自己的人际关系有一种掌控感和期待。但当高中真正开学的第一天到来时,这一切都将改变。)”可知,that指代前文提到的“they have a sense of control over and expectations for their relationships (他们对自己的人际关系有一种掌控感和期待)”,即他们觉得自己能掌控人际关系的感觉。
________ ________ ________ ________ ________
C ②. A ③. D ④. B ⑤. E
C 句“Have you ever had a song stuck in your head that just won’t stop playing? This is a common thing called an "earworm . (你有没有一首歌卡在脑海里一直循环播放?这就是一种很常见的现象,叫作‘耳虫’。)”以设问开篇,引入本文核心概念 earworm,适合放在首句。
2. 上文 C 引出耳虫现象,A 句“These melodies usually pop up when our brains are resting , like when we are daydreaming or doing boring , repetitive work . Most people hardly notice this. (这些旋律通常在大脑休息时突然出现,比如我们做白日梦或者从事枯燥重复的工作时。大多数人几乎不会留意到这件事。)”中These melodies指代上文中脑海里循环的歌曲旋律,承接上文,介绍耳虫出现的场景。
3. 上文 A 讲大多数时候人们几乎察觉不到,D 句“However, sometimes the song can become so annoying that it makes it hard for a person to focus on work or even fall asleep at night. (然而,有时候这首歌会变得十分恼人,让人难以专心工作,甚至夜里无法入睡。)”中However表转折,从平时不易察觉转到它带来的麻烦,逻辑转折自然。
4. 上文 D 提到耳虫有时会十分恼人,B 句“But don’t worry. Experts say this is just a normal reaction of our brain and not a sign that something is wrong with your health. (但是不必担心。专家表示这只是大脑的正常反应,并不是你的健康出了问题的信号。)”承接上文的困扰,进行安抚并解释本质。
5. 上文 B 说明这只是大脑正常现象,E 句“So, instead of trying to fight the music, the best way is to just accept it as a harmless, little musical friend in your head. (所以,不要试着对抗这段旋律,最好的办法就是接受它,把它看作你脑海里一个无害的小小音乐伙伴。)”中So表示总结,给出应对耳虫的建议,作为文章结尾。
