Passage1(课内同源:关于电的有趣事实)
Good evening. Thanks for joining me in this week's edition of The Natural World. I'm Rebecca. Tonight, share some interesting facts about electricity with you. / First of all, as you may already know, electricity was not invented. It was discovered. But do you know when it was first discovered? Many believe that electricity was first discovered by the ancient Greeks more than 2,500 years ago. They produced electricity by rubbing fur against smooth stone! / Next, do you know how fast electricity travels? The answer is: the speed of light! That is, about 300 million metres per second! / Another interesting fact is about electric cars. They are very popular now, but the idea is not new. British inventor Robert Anderson invented the first electric car around 1832. However, this car was not very useful. It wasn't possible to drive electric cars until the second half of the 19th century. / Finally, a report shows that in the USA, about 30% of the electricity used in offices each year is wasted. This just shows how important it is to save electricity in our daily lives.

In 1752, a man named Benjamin Franklin did a famous experiment with a kite. He wanted to find out if lightning was a form of electricity. / Franklin made a kite with a silk cloth and a wooden frame. He tied a metal key to the string and flew the kite in a thunderstorm. When the string became wet, electricity travelled down it to the key. Franklin saw small sparks and knew the answer: lightning is electricity. / The experiment was very dangerous. Another scientist in Russia tried the same thing and died. Franklin was lucky. / Franklin's discovery led to an important invention: the lightning rod. A lightning rod is a metal bar on the top of a building. It carries the electricity safely down to the ground, so the building is not damaged. / Today, lightning rods are on almost every tall building. 任务四范文:Last month I read a book about Benjamin Franklin. In 1752, he flew a kite in a storm and discovered that lightning is a form of electricity. He tied a metal key to the wet string and saw small sparks. His discovery led to the lightning rod, and tall buildings use it today. Electricity travels at the speed of light, but Franklin showed us where it comes from. I think this fact is interesting because one small experiment changed our cities. We should make good use of electricity and never waste it.
