Text 1:
M: Mom, I'm going to basketball practice after school today.
W: Okay. But remember to finish your homework before dinner. You stayed up too late
last night working on it.
Text 2:
M: I'm thinking about joining the school drama club. They're performing Shakespeare
next month.
W: That's wonderful! You've always been good at public speaking. I'm sure you'll do
great on stage.
Text 3
M:Emma, have you decided what to write about for the competition?
W: Yes! I'm writing about my grandmother's journey from the countryside to the city.
Her story inspired me to work hard.
Text 4
W: Excuse me, could you tell me where I can sign up for the cooking workshop this Saturday?
M: Sure! Just head to the community office on the second floor of this building. It's still open.
Text 5
W: Look at this kite! The dragon design is so detailed and colorful.
M: It's amazing! My grandfather used to make kites like this. It's a traditional art that's
not so common anymore.
1-5:CBCBA
W: Peter, I haven't seen you at the school library lately. Where have you been studying?
M: I've been going to the city library downtown. It's quieter there and has more resources
for my history project.
W: How often do you go there?
M: Usually on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons.
W: That sounds like a good plan.ls it far from your home?
M: Not really. It takes me about 20 minutes by bus.
W: Cool. I'll join you!
6-7:AC
M: I heard you're planning a charity concert for the children's hospital. How's the preparation going?
W: Prelty well! We've got five student bands to perform.
M: That's great! When is the concert?
W: Next Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We're charging 20 yuan per ticket, and all the
money will go directly to the hospital.
M: What a meaningful event! How can I help?
W: We still need volunteers to set up the stage. Are you interested?
M: Absolutely! Just let me know what time.
W: Thanks so much! We'll start at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

W: Good morning, Mr. Thompson. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me today.
M: Of course, Jennifer. You mentioned you wanted to discuss your career plans. How can
I help ?
W: Well, I'm really interested in becoming a reporter, but I'm not sure which
subjects I should focus on in my remaining high school years.
M: That's a good question. Strong writing skills are necessary, so continue with
your English literature courses.
W:What other subjects would you recommend?
M: History and social studies are very valuable. They help you understand current events
properly.
W: That makes sense. What else can I do ?
M: Why not start writing for the school newspaper now? Practical experience is just as
important as classroom learning.
W: Okay, I'll try that.
11-13:BBA
W: How do you feel, John?
M: Fine, Katy. Nice and relaxed and ready for a pleasant weekend at home.
W: Well, all that is about to change. What progress have you made with the order for
10,000 blue footballs?
M: Oh, it's going really well. All the materials have been ordered.
W: Change of plan. The client has called and now he wants 10,000 red footballs and
10,000 green.
M: Twice as many and no blue? But what about all the work I've done already?
W: Back to the drawing board, I'm afraid.
M: Oh no, that's crazy - all the work I've done.
W: I'm sorry for that, but look on the bright side. He's ordered double the quantity. It's good
news for the company. We must be doing something right.
M: But my whole week's work -I will have to do it all over again.
W: That's business, I'm afraid. The customer is always right, especially when he intends
to spend more money.
M: I suppose you're right, but I don't feel any better about it

Good morning, everyone! Welcome back to school. I'm Li Hua, president of the
Student Union. Today I'd like to share some plans for the new semester.
First, we will continue our campus greening project. The school has decided to plant
more grass on the playground. Don't worry about the cost — the parents' committee has
agreed to pay for the grass, so students won't need to contribute any money.
Second, regarding field trips, we want to make them more enjoyable and meaningful.
Instead of just asking teachers for suggestions as we did before, we will conduct a paper
survey among all students to collect your ideas on where you'd like to go and what activities
you prefer. We believe this will make the trips much more fun and suited to your interests.
That's all for now. Thank you for listening, and have a great semester!

Dear George,
I'm sorry to hear that you have lost lots of marks in the Reading part of English exams.
Here are my suggestions for you.
First, look through all the questions before doing the reading, and read with the questions
in mind, which helps you find key information faster.
Second, don't look up the dictionary every time you meet new words. Try to guess
their meanings.
Finally, do reading practice every day, and it can improve your reading speed.
I hope my suggestions will be helpful to you.
Yours sincerely,
LiHua

In our daily life, many people tend to shy away from difficulties, choosing the comfort of familiarity over the
unknown. However, facing challenges can unlock unexpected growth and opportunities. For me, saying“yes” to new
challenges has been a key to self-improvement, even when fear tried to hold me back.
An example lies in my experience with learning the piano. At the age of 12, I was invited to join a school piano
recital (独奏会). I had only played simple pieces and had never performed in front of an audience. My hands trembled
at the thought of sitting on that stage, but something inside me whispered, “What if I can?” So I took a deep breath and
said“yes”.
Practicing was far from easy. The piece I chose had complicated melodies(旋律). There were nights when I
wanted to quit, frustrated by my mistakes. But each time I felt like giving up,I reminded myself why I'd said “yes” in
the first place: not to be perfect, but to grow. Gradually, the music began to flow. On the day of the recital, though
nervous, I played confidently. The applause after ward wasn't just for the performance—— it was for the courage to try.
Looking back, I realize that saying “no” would have kept me in a safe but unchanging and inactive place. By
facing the challenge, I gained not only piano skills but also the belief that I could overcome fears. This experience
taught me that challenges are not obstacles but stepping stones. They push us beyond our limits and show strengths
we never knew we had.
In a world that often encourages staying within our comfort zones, dare to say “yes” to new adventures. Whether
it's learning a new skill, joining a competition, or helping someone in need, each “yes” is a chance to grow. Remember,
growth begins at the end of your comfort zone.
24. Why was the author nervous about the piano recital?
A. Her piano teacher was very strict. B. She didn't like the piece she had to play.
C. She had never performed in public before. D. She forgot the music during practice.
25. What did the author remind herself when she wanted to quit?
A. She needed to be perfect for the recital. B. She said “yes” to grow, not to be perfect.
C. Her family was expecting a great performance. D. The recital was too important to miss.
26. What does the author encourage readers to do?
A. Try to learn some new skills. B. Face new challenges bravely.
C. Take on difficult tasks. D. Help others in trouble.
27. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Facing challenges leads to personal growth. B. Saying “no” to challenges helps us grow.
C. People should face difficulties calmly. D. Playing the piano is easy with enough practice.

Villages have existed in England since the Roman period. There were free communities, but most were of
dependent farmers. Life was hard, even when the country did not suffer from deadly diseases and hunger. The majority
of England's population was rural (乡村) until the 18th century, when a great shift towards towns and cities began.
By the 19th century, people started to reexamine village life, longing to experience the way of living that was already
disappearing.
Since 1945, the past has accelerated(加速) away from people at a faster rate than ever before. In 1969, in his
landmark Akenfield: Portrait of an English Village, the famous English writer Ronald Blythe offered a realistic
description detailing the end of the old English village. But the great English historian W. G. Hoskins suggested that
the whole history of the country could be told through one village. Inspired by his view, Michael Wood filmed the
TV series Michael Wood's Story of England in the village of Kibworth.
And now time has moved on again. In some of the English villages, big farms have replaced smallholders(小农场主); private houses have become spa hotels. Despite these changes, the village still stands for the idea of community, a word
more and more in use now as we search for our commonality (共性). It is a place of 500 or1,000 people, where
everyone knows each other and each other's business, but always helps out in an emergency; a place where one can
still feel connected and hold that dream of a harmonious vision of society.
Some of the English people feel concerned about immigrants, but their villages always have newcomers, just like
Saxons, Angles, Normans, Africans and Bangladeshis in history. That is who they are. In reality, English villages have
been deeply shaped more by inequality and class conflict than those newcomers.
So, as Hoskins suggested, if you were to learn about England, why not choose an English village, such as
Handsworth near Birmingham? It was home to the Lunar Society of Matthew Boulton, as well as to musicians like
Stevie Winwood and Joan Armatreading. Wouldn't that be fun?
28. What was early rural life like in England?
A. It was far from easy. B. It had been destroyed by cities.
C. All farmers worked together. D. Villagers suffered from various diseases.
29. What led to the filming of the England story TV series?
A. Post-war social changes. B. Hoskins' idea about one village.
C. The growth of small farms. D. The success of Blythe's Akenfield.
30. Why do villages still matter today?
A. They contribute to population growth.
B. They have become a key source of income.
C. They keep important ancient Roman buildings.
D. They provide a sense of belonging and togetherness.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Great Shift from Rural to Urban B. Why Villages Are Dying Out
C. A Window into England: The Village D. The History of European Villages

Meaningful conversations with children can be challenging for a parent. The book How to Talk So Kids WillListen
& Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish provides much advice on improving relationships with
children.
Faber and Mazlish are known for their smart ways of helping parents and kids communicate better. The book has

One study in America found that students’ grades 62 (improve) a little after the school
introduced uniforms. But some students didn't want 63 (wear) the uniform. Other American
studies showed no 64 (connect) between uniforms and school performance.
School uniforms are 65 (tradition) in Britain, but some schools are starting to get rid of them.
