范文(应用文)
Dear Zhang Wei,
I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling lonely in your new school. Don't worry too much. Here are some suggestions for you.
First, why not try to say hello to your classmates actively? A simple smile can help break the ice. Second, you'd better take part in class activities, which will give you more chances to communicate with others. Besides, it's a good idea to find friends who share the same hobbies as you.
I hope these tips will be helpful. I believe you will make good friends soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
范文(读后续写)
Paragraph 1:
Mr. Li smiled at her and said, "Take your time. We are all friends here." Wang Lin took a deep breath. She looked at Mr. Li's kind eyes and felt a little braver. "I... I'm Wang Lin. I like... reading and... listening to music." Her voice was low, but she finished. Then something surprising happened. The whole class clapped. No one laughed at her. Mr. Li said, "Great job, Wang Lin! Your pronunciation is clear. Keep practicing." Wang Lin could not believe it. She sat down and felt warm inside. For the first time, she thought maybe English was not so scary.
Paragraph 2:
After class, Wang Lin felt much better. She walked to Mr. Li's desk and said in a small voice, "Thank you, Mr. Li." Mr. Li smiled and said, "You did well today. Remember, everyone makes mistakes. The important thing is to try." Wang Lin nodded. On her way home, she thought about the class. She remembered the clapping and Mr. Li's warm words. She decided to practice English every day. She would read aloud at home and listen to English songs. Maybe one day, she could speak English confidently. That night, she wrote in her diary: "Today I was brave. Tomorrow I will be even braver."

What a day! I started my new school this morning and had the best time. I made lots of new friends and really liked my teachers. I was nervous the night before, but I had no reason to be. Everyone was so friendly and polite. They made me feel at ease. It seemed that I’d been at the school for a hundred years!
The day started very early at 7:00 am. I had my breakfast downstairs with my mum. She could tell that I was very nervous. Mum kept asking me what was wrong. She told me I had nothing to worry about and that everyone was going to love me. If they didn’t love me, Mum said she would send them her way for a good talking to, I couldn’t stop laughing.
My mum dropped me off at the school gate about five minutes before the bell. A little blonde girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving at me. She ran over and told me her name was Abigail. She was very nice and we became close straight away. We spent all morning together and began to talk to another girl called Stacey. The three of us sat together in class all day and we even made our way home together! It went so quickly. Our teacher told us that tomorrow we would really start learning and developing new skills.
I couldn’t wait until tomorrow and thought that I was really going to enjoy my time at my new school. I only hoped that my new friends would feel the same way too.

Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when we worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources.
Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.
The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short math tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test.
Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B- for those who did not.
“What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who’d done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test fear and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don’t normally get nervous in these tests.”
But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.
28.What do the students start worrying about before an exam according to Paragraph 1?
A.What other students do during the test.
B.Whether they can pass the exam.
C.Whether they have remembered the materials.
D.What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper.
29.What is the solution developed by researchers?
A.Making the students focused on the test.
B.Asking the students to sit quietly before the test.
C.Having the students write about their worries about the test.
D.Asking the students to direct the attention away from the test.
30.According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test ______.
A.did worse than those who wrote about their feelings
B.became less nervous before the test
C.were better at controlling their feelings
D.did better than those who wrote about their feelings
31.What’s the writer’s attitude to the solution developed by researchers?
A.Opposed. B.Worried.
C.Doubtful. D.Unknown.

Note-taking is a skill that can help you do well in all your schoolwork — everything from taking tests to researching a paper. But unfortunately, most schools don’t have classes that teach you how to take notes. So here are some tips.
Write down key facts. If you have a teacher who writes notes on the board, that’s good: You can copy them down. If not, write down the most important points from class. Does your history teacher mention the date of a key Civil War battle? Does your English teacher give examples of Shakespeare’s use of irony (讽刺)? Write them down!
Different teachers do things differently. For example, some teachers may mention lots of dates and facts in class but only write the key ones on the board. Other teachers may not write anything down, but they may repeat a certain date or a piece of information. After a while, you’ll get to know a teacher’s style.
Don’t overdo it. Don’t go crazy taking notes. You’ll be frantic (慌乱的) if you try to write down every word that’s said in class. And if you focus too much on getting your notes right, you might miss important points. Some people actually learn better by listening, writing down a few key points, and then going over the material after class.
Ask. Don’t be afraid to ask the teacher to repeat something you miss. If the teacher is going too fast, your classmates will also be happy to hear the information again. If you don’t want to ask in class, see your teacher afterwards. It’s much easier than wondering if you got the notes right as you study.
