The company will also be available by phone or email to answer any questions during the trial. Program Timeline May 10 Applications due By May 20 Selected participants notified; agreements signed June 1-28 Device testing period July 18 Final feedback survey due Application Requirements This program will select 15 full-time participants to use the device in their homes for four weeks. The call is open to residents living within the city area. All applicants are supposed to be at least 18 years old and previous experience with smart devices is a must. To apply, applicants are required to provide the following information: ● Name and a valid email. This information will only be used for program-related communication. ● A brief description of your experience with smart devices (maximum 100 words). This helps us understand your familiarity level. Please send the above materials to apply@techforward.com. Any application received after the deadline will not be considered. 1. What is the purpose of this text? A. To introduce a new smart device. B. To advertise a technology company. C. To seek volunteers for a product trial. D. To explain how to use a smart assistant. 2. How long are participants expected to test the device? A. 18 days. B. 20 days. C. 28 days. D. 30 days. 3. Who is the most suitable for the program? A. Samantha, a local college graduate majoring in IT. B. Christopher, a retired teacher living outside the city. C. Fia, a junior high school student fond of technology. D. Max, a part-time worker seldom using smart devices. B Two friends are seated in a busy restaurant. They acknowledge it has been “too long” since they last caught up. Then a tense silence follows. One friend asks, “So, how are you?” Such a simple question weighs heavily on the other. She forces a smile and replies, “I’m fine. How are you?” The strange part is that she doesn’t say it intentionally. “Fine” seems to arrive on its own before she even questions if it’s true. For many of us, being “fine” is a reflex, like pulling our hands back from something hot before we feel the pain. This behavioral pattern sticks because it works, at least on a surface level. It keeps the childhood dinner table calm, or a boss from further asking personal questions. “Fine” creates a boundary without us having to voice the need for space. There is a trade-off, of course. “I’m fine” isn’t so much a lie. Rather, it’s a stand-in for something more authentic (真实的) and complicated. Often we lack the time, safety or language to name what is under “fine”. The reflex to be “fine” becomes so automatic that rarely does anyone get a real answer, including ourselves. This “I’m fine” reflex is seldom built in a single event. Instead it’s incubated in moments when “fine” keeps things working: with easily stressed parents, or in a household where no one truly cares to listen when asking “how are you”. None of the exchanges has to be dramatic to leave a mark; enough repetition tells the nervous system that honesty here is unsafe or unwanted. Fortunately, once identified, the reflex can be changed — just a brief pause (暂停) before saying “fine”. In that pause, you don’t even have to voice the truth to break the habit; start simply by noticing the gap between the automatic answer and the real one. Then start with one low-pressure person, like a friend, to practise honest replies before opening up to others. 4. Why does the author mention the two friends in paragraph 1? A. To share communication skills. B. To give a reason for small talk. C. To introduce a response pattern. D. To illustrate the safe social distance. 5. What can we infer about the “I’m fine” reflex? A. It allows people some personal space. B. It is a white lie meant to hide bad moods. C. It does more harm than good in daily life. D. It efficiently expresses complicated emotions. 6. What does the underlined word “incubated” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Hidden. B. Replaced. C. Developed. D. Discovered. 7. What is suggested in the last paragraph? A. Questioning the honesty of others. B. Sharing pressure with trusted friends. C. Avoiding simple answers in conversations. D. Examining automatic replies before speaking. C Nearly half of all Americans and around 40% of Britons now use smartwatches or phone apps to track their sleep. Are these devices accurate and do the users get a better night’s rest? Not enough sleep can cause health problems. A new study, published in Nature, finds a U-shaped relationship between how long people sleep and markers of biological ageing. Those who got between 6.4 and 7.8 hours of shut-eye a night seemed to experience slower ageing than those who slept either more or less. Sleep trackers promise to help people hit this sweet spot. Apps typically record movement and sound, sometimes inferring breathing rates from the audio. Smartwatches record movement and measure blood flow by shining low-intensity light onto the skin and detecting how much reflects back. Most trackers are very good at distinguishing sleep from being awake. Several studies have compared them to polysomnography (多功能睡眠记录仪), which uses electrodes (电极) to record eye movements, brain activity and heart rate, and is the gold standard for measuring sleep. One paper, published in Sensors, found three tested popular trackers agreed with polysomnography around 95% of the time in telling sleep from wakefulness across the night. When it comes to identifying the different sleep stages, trackers are less accurate. A good night requires cycling between rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep, in which dreams take place, and several stages of non-REM sleep ranging from light to deep. Wearables agree with polysomnography on sleep-stage classification only around 50-80% of the time. “That merits a C+ to B+,” says Rebecca Robbins, a sleep scientist at Harvard. Despite trackers’ shortcomings, Dr Robbins says they give people a better, more objective sense of how long they slept. Plus, they do seem to improve sleep habits. In a survey, 55% of adults who reported using sleep trackers said they had changed their behaviour and improved sleep quality after learning from the data. Too much data can have downsides, though. Unlike trying to eat healthily or exercise, putting more thought into sleeping can backfire. As many as 30% of those who track their sleep report feeling anxious. But sleep data is not worth losing sleep over, because there is an alternative to sleep tracking: whether you wake up feeling rested is the best indicator of how good your night was. 8. What is the author’s purpose in writing paragraph 2? A. To explain why sleep tracking has become so popular. B. To present a finding for sleeping trackers to build on. C. To argue that too much sleep is as harmful as too little. D. To question whether biological ageing can be measured. 9. What do the underlined words “this sweet spot” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. The time when ageing slows down naturally. B. The amount of sleep that best suits one’s body. C. The balance between REM sleep and non-REM sleep. D. The sleep length linked with slower biological ageing. 10. What aspect can trackers measure most accurately? A. The conscious state. B. The sleep depth. C. The sleep quality. D. The sleep effects. 11. What’s the best title for the text? A. Sleep Trackers: Easy to Handle? B. Sleep Trackers: Affordable for All? C. Sleep Trackers: A Good Choice or Not? D. Sleep Trackers: A Solution to Sleep Anxiety? D Bus shelters tend to be practical structures. They offer protection from severe weather. Seating while you wait. Maybe an ad to grab your attention. But a green bus stop movement is seeking to create gardens on bus shelters. These installations, first popularized in the Netherlands, have been spreading across Europe. Green bus shelters typically involve five key components. The green roof structure must support significant weight, so a brand-new roof is ideal. Above the roof comes the root barrier, an impermeable (不可渗透的) layer of fabric, plastic, or rubberized material that prevents plant roots from growing downward. On top of this barrier sits the drainage (排水) system, which collects and stores rainwater for the plants and gradually lets out extra water without flooding city drains. The soil for a green roof should be lighter and more mineral-based than typical houseplant soil, to increase rainwater retention. For vegetation, native plants are ideal, as they support local biodiversity. Zoe Davis, senior project manager for Boston, noted that their plant selections have attracted butterflies, birds and squirrels. One key advantage of green bus shelters is their ability to fight urban heat islands. Living roofs can provide more shade than glass roofs, and they don’t absorb and release heat the way a blacktopped roof would. Instead, they can hold water long enough for it to evaporate (蒸发), producing a cooling effect. Living roofs have been documented to reduce surrounding air temperatures by up to 6℃. For Utrecht, a city in the Netherlands, one goal of building green bus shelters was to address a rapid decline in the bee population. Some green bus shelters in the US are primarily demonstration projects. These novelty installations may influence how people think about vegetation in their surroundings. Boston estimates that if all 8,000 of its bus stops featured living roofs, it would create about 17 acres of green space — roughly the size of 13 football fields. And when living roofs are installed on a larger scale, they can have real environmental effects. 12. What distinguishes green bus shelters from common ones? A. Seats for waiting passengers. B. Eco-friendly roof structures. C. Eye-catching advertisements. D. Protection against bad weather. 13. Which picture shows the appropriate green roof structure? A. B. C. D. 14. How does the author mainly explain the cooling effect in paragraph 4? A. By giving a definition. B. By providing evidence. C. By making comparisons. D. By listing numbers. 15. What does Boston’s estimation in the last paragraph imply? A. The high cost of the movement. B. The huge potential of the project. C. The urgency of rebuilding bus stops. D. The difficulty of promoting green roofs. It used to be simple: if you were stuck on homework, you went to a tutor or looked through a textbook. Today, many students admit their first instinct (本能) is to open short-video apps. ____16____ And here’s the catch: while short-form video makes information accessible, are students actually learning or just scrolling (滚屏)? Students aren’t choosing short videos to study by accident; it fits the way their brains are wired in today’s world. Studies suggest the average attention span has dropped to around 8-12 seconds. Quick videos match that rhythm. Instead of sitting through a 40-minute lecture, students can learn one concept or definition in a minute. Short videos also turn idle time, like waiting for the bus, into learning opportunities. ____17____ However, for every upside, there’s a hidden drawback that students often feel but don’t always recognize. Short videos sometimes oversimplify — students may remember a “fun fact” but struggle to apply it in problem-solving. Constant exposure to fast content trains the brain to expect stimulation, making complex reading or full lectures harder to sit through. ____18____ Students can end up overwhelmed, recalling bits of many topics but mastering none. Here’s where it gets tricky. Short-video platforms aren’t built for studying; they’re built for endless scrolling. That means students who go in looking for a “quick explainer” often end up an hour deep into unrelated content. ____19____ Students describe feeling “busy” while scrolling through study content, but later realize they didn’t remember much. ____20____ The reality is, it’s both. Short-form content is a tool, not a replacement. Students who use it as a supplement to traditional learning gain the best of both worlds: quick tips and deeper practice. Those who depend only on it often face burnout, divided attention, or surface-level understanding. A. So, is short-form video helping or hurting? B. This makes video-learning fit easily into daily life. C. Many creators make money by posting educational clips. D. To them, such videos don’t just entertain but feel like learning. E. Short videos make students unable to finish homework within fixed time. F. Besides, too many short videos, brief as they are, can cause information overload. G. This unclear line between entertainment and education makes it harder to manage time. When 24-year-old Eve lost her job in 2024, she decided to spend her free time helping her community. Buried in daily school routines, I rarely stepped out of the city and held a fixed idea of mountain villages in Yunnan. I imagined rough dirt roads, outdated facilities and limited chances for development, so I felt reluctant (勉强的) when my parents suggested spending summer break at my hometown village on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The moment we drove into the mountainous countryside, my old opinions were completely overturned. Bathed in bright plateau sunshine, the village unfolded before my eyes with refreshing green hills and tidy paved paths. Neat courtyards lined the road, and soft wind carried the faint fragrance of wild mushrooms and local honey, typical treats of Yunnan’s highland. My cousin once hunted for job opportunities in crowded cities. Eventually, he chose to return home, determined to bring local farm products back to life. He noticed that huge numbers of tourists from other provinces came this summer to escape heat waves, attracted by the cool mountain climate. Surrounded by lush mountains, the village produced fresh wild mushrooms and pure plateau honey, yet these delicious native specialties remained unknown to outside buyers due to poor exposure. To seize this summer chance, he launched an online store and tried simple live-streaming and advertising sessions. Inspired by his passion, I volunteered to help. I took vivid photos of fresh mountain produce, sorted product details and replied patiently to online customers. Little by little, I witnessed how modern technology breathed new life into this peaceful Yunnan mountain village. As visitors who had seen our live-streaming came pouring in, our business took an unexpected turn. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After this unforgettable summer in the mountains, my old views about country life were completely rewritten. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 英语 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 1. C 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第一段“One friend asks, “So, how are you?” Such a simple question weighs heavily on the other. She forces a smile and replies, “I’m fine. How are you?”(其中一位朋友问道:“那你怎么样?”这个简单问题让对方感到沉重。她强挤出一丝微笑,回答道:“我挺好的,你呢?”)”可知,作者在第一段中提到两位朋友的原因是为了介绍一种回应模式。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“It keeps the childhood dinner table calm, or a boss from further asking personal questions. “Fine” creates a boundary without us having to voice the need for space.(它能让童年时的餐桌保持平静,也能让上司不再追问私密问题。“挺好的”创造了一种界限,而我们无需明确表达自己需要空间。)”可知,“我很好”这一句回答为人们提供了一些个人空间。 【6题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段“This “I’m fine” reflex is seldom built in a single event.(这种“我挺好的”的反应,通常并非源于单一事件。)”和“moments when “fine” keeps things working: with easily stressed parents, or in a household where no one truly cares to listen when asking “how are you”(那些说“很好”就能让事情维持运转的时刻:面对容易焦虑的父母,或是在一个问“你怎么样”却没人真正愿意倾听的家庭里)”可知,“I’m fine”这句话不是在单一事件中养成的,而是在“说‘很好’就能让事情维持运转”的时刻养成,incubated的意思是“养成”,和developed意思相近。 根据最后一段“In that pause, you don’t even have to voice the truth to break the habit; start simply by noticing the gap between the automatic answer and the real one. Then start with one low-pressure person, like a friend, to practise honest replies before opening up to others.(在那个停顿里,你甚至不必说出真相就能打破这个习惯;先从留意自动化回答和真实回答之间的差距开始。然后从一个让你感到压力小的人(比如朋友)开始,练习诚实的回答,之后再向其他人敞开心扉。)”可知,最后一段建议在说话前检查自动化回答。 C Nearly half of all Americans and around 40% of Britons now use smartwatches or phone apps to track their sleep. B 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段“Not enough sleep can cause health problems. A new study, published in Nature, finds a U-shaped relationship between how long people sleep and markers of biological ageing. Those who got between 6.4 and 7.8 hours of shut-eye a night seemed to experience slower ageing than those who slept either more or less.(睡眠不足会引发健康问题。《自然》上一项新研究发现,睡眠时间与生物衰老指标呈U型关系。每晚睡眠6.4至7.8小时的人,衰老速度比睡得过多或过少的人更慢)”可知,作者写第二段是呈现一项研究发现,为睡眠追踪器的作用提供依据。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段“Those who got between 6.4 and 7.8 hours of shut-eye a night seemed to experience slower ageing than those who slept either more or less.(每晚睡眠6.4至7.8小时的人,衰老速度比睡得过多或过少的人更慢)”以及第三段“Sleep trackers promise to help people hit this sweet spot.(睡眠追踪器有望帮助人们达到这个最佳区间)”可知,this sweet spot指和更慢生物衰老相关的睡眠时间。 根据第四段“Most trackers are very good at distinguishing sleep from being awake. Several studies have compared them to polysomnography (多功能睡眠记录仪), which uses electrodes (电极) to record eye movements, brain activity and heart rate, and is the gold standard for measuring sleep. One paper, published in Sensors, found three tested popular trackers agreed with polysomnography around 95% of the time in telling sleep from wakefulness across the night.(大多数追踪器十分擅长区分睡眠状态与清醒状态。多项研究将它们与多功能睡眠记录仪作对比,该设备利用电极记录眼球运动、大脑活动与心率,是检测睡眠的黄金标准。发表在《传感器》期刊上的一篇论文发现,三款接受测试的主流追踪器,在夜间辨别睡眠与清醒时,和多功能睡眠记录仪的结果有约95%的吻合度)”可知,追踪器在测量清醒/睡眠这种意识状态方面最准确。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“Sleep trackers promise to help people hit this sweet spot. Apps typically record movement and sound, sometimes inferring breathing rates from the audio. Smartwatches record movement and measure blood flow by shining low-intensity light onto the skin and detecting how much reflects back.(睡眠追踪器有望帮助人们达到这个最佳睡眠区间。应用程序通常记录动作与声音,有时会通过音频推断呼吸频率。智能手表记录肢体活动,并向皮肤发射弱光,检测反射回来的光量,以此测量血流量)”结合全文介绍睡眠追踪器的原理、优点、局限性以及带来的副作用,讨论它究竟好不好。C选项“睡眠追踪器:是个好选择吗?”最符合文章标题。 D Bus shelters tend to be practical structures. B 13. A 14. C 15. 根据第一段“Bus shelters tend to be practical structures. They offer protection from severe weather. Seating while you wait. Maybe an ad to grab your attention. But a green bus stop movement is seeking to create gardens on bus shelters. (公交站往往是实用性建筑。它们为人们抵御恶劣天气,提供候车座椅,或许还有吸引你目光的广告。但一场绿色公交站运动正力求在公交站上打造花园。)”可知,绿色公交站区别于普通公交站的是环保的屋顶结构。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The green roof structure must support significant weight, so a brand-new roof is ideal. (绿色屋顶结构必须能够承受较大重量,因此全新的屋顶是理想选择。屋顶上方是阻根层,一层由织物、塑料或橡胶材料制成的不可渗透层,用于防止植物根系向下生长。阻根层上方是排水系统,该系统为植物收集储存雨水,并逐步排出多余水分,避免城市排水系统积水泛滥。)”以及第三段“The soil for a green roof should be lighter and more mineral-based than typical houseplant soil, to increase rainwater retention. For vegetation, native plants are ideal, as they support local biodiversity. (绿色屋顶所用土壤应当比普通室内盆栽土更轻、矿物质含量更高,以此提升雨水留存能力。对于植被而言,本土植物是理想选择,因为它们能够维系当地生物多样性。)”可知,绿色屋顶结构从下到上依次为:承重屋顶→根阻层(材质为织物、塑料或橡胶)→排水系统→专用土壤→本土植被,对应A选项图示。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Living roofs can provide more shade than glass roofs, and they don’t absorb and release heat the way a blacktopped roof would. (生态屋顶能比玻璃屋顶提供更多阴凉,且不会像沥青屋顶那样吸收和释放热量。)”可知,作者通过将生态屋顶与玻璃屋顶、沥青屋顶进行对比,解释其降温原理与降温效果。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Boston estimates that if all 8,000 of its bus stops featured living roofs, it would create about 17 acres of green space — roughly the size of 13 football fields. And when living roofs are installed on a larger scale, they can have real environmental effects. (波士顿市估算,如果其全部8000个公交站都配备生态屋顶,将创造约17英亩的绿地,面积大致相当于13个足球场。且大规模安装生态屋顶能够产生切实的环境效益。)”可知,该估算数据体现出绿色公交站项目拥有巨大的发展潜力和环保价值。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余项。 It used to be simple: if you were stuck on homework, you went to a tutor or looked through a textbook. 16. D 17. B 18. F 19. G 20. Traditional festivals face undeniable challenges in the modern world. The fast pace of urban life leaves little time for grand celebrations, and the cultural significance of many festivals is gradually fading among younger generations. In my opinion, traditional festivals should adapt to modern lifestyles, but this adaptation must preserve their core cultural meaning. The Mid-Autumn Festival offers a good example: while families today may not gather in courtyards to admire the moon as they once did, they can still share mooncakes and connect via video calls with relatives far away. I suggest that schools and communities play a more active role in teaching young people the stories and values behind traditional festivals. When we understand why we celebrate, we can find creative ways to keep these traditions alive in forms that keep pace with contemporary life. 词汇积累 许多的:many → a variety of 逐渐消失:fade → disappear 理解:understand → comprehend 方法:way → approach 2. The fast pace of urban life leaves little time for grand celebrations. Since urban life moves at a fast pace, people have little time for grand celebrations. 1】 I suggest that schools and communities play a more active role in teaching young people the stories and values behind traditional festivals.(运用了that引导的宾语从句和虚拟语气) 【高分句型2】When we understand why we celebrate, we can find creative ways to keep these traditions alive in forms that keep pace with contemporary life.(运用了when引导时间状语从句,why引导宾语从句,that引导定语从句) 第二节 读后续写(满分25分) 52. Growing up in a bustling (喧嚣的) city, I had always pictured rural life as quiet, dull and disconnected from the modern world. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 As visitors who had seen our live-streaming came pouring in, our business took an unexpected turn. Most tourists were fascinated by the tasty wild mushrooms and sweet honey after tasting samples. Many shared our goods on social media and placed orders immediately. Our online shop received countless orders every day, far beyond our original expectations. My cousin and I were busy packing products every afternoon, filled with pride and joy. The quiet mountain village gradually gained wide popularity online. More and more people began to know about the high-quality local specialties hidden in the mountains. After this unforgettable summer in the mountains, my old views about country life were completely rewritten. I truly witnessed how youth power and digital sales pushed rural revitalization forward. The countryside is no longer a backward place but a promising land full of chances. Inspired by my cousin, I made up my mind to equip myself with solid expertise, striving to inject vitality into rural construction and empower villagers to embrace a prosperous and bright future. I realized that modern technology can greatly change rural development. Even remote mountain villages can embrace new vitality with innovation and hard work. 词汇激活 行为类 ①激励:inspire/motivate ②努力:strive/endeavor 情绪类 ①着迷的:fascinated/enchanted ②喜悦:joy/delight 【点睛】【高分句型1】I truly witnessed how youth power and digital sales pushed rural revitalization forward.
