The Atlantic Road
Norway
The approximately 5-mile road runs through an archipelago (群岛) of the Norwegian Sea, having eight impressive bridges on the way. It’s a popular place for car companies to film advertisements.
Ring of Kerry
Ireland
This 111-mile roadway offers a mix of scenery and history, with landscapes ranging from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to deep forests. Parts of the road date back to 10,000 years ago and roadway stops include the island monastery (修道院) of Skellig Michael and the Iron-Age Staigue stone fort.
Million Dollar Highway
Colorado
The impressive views along this 25-mile highway are reasonable enough to make a point of taking the route. Colorado provides plenty of opportunities along the way like hiking, camping, rock climbing, and white-water rafting. Stop in Durango or Telluride to enjoy Western U.S. shopping.
National Route A006
Las Cuevas, Argentina
If you are fond of curves (弯道), National Route A006, which is about 5.3 miles long, is the place to be. The most curved part of the road — with over 60 turns — runs from Las Cuevas to La Cumbre Pass. When Alex was 15 and in middle school, he saw his best friend Lily facing a major challenge-she had a severe learning disability. Reading and understanding complex texts was extremely hard for her, which hurt her grades and made her lose confidence. Determined to support her, Alex made up his mind to find a solution.
One day, while carelessly reading Reader’s Digest, Alex chanced upon an article about the shocking power of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Deeply inspired by the article, he made up his mind to create an Al-based learning tool that could effectively help students like Lily. Alex spent months learning programming languages and algorithms (算法). He faced numerous tough challenges along the way, such as checking and reorganizing codes (代码) , which mean programming instructions, and searching for relevant data, which mean information having something to do with developing such an app. However, he never thought of giving up. Finally, he developed an app called “ReadEase”, which uses AI to analyze texts and provide simplified explanations, synonyms, and clear audio-readings. It can also track the user’s progress and offer personalized learning plans.
When Alex introduced “ReadEase” to Lily, she was doubtful at first. “But to my surprise, after using it for a few weeks, I noticed a significant improvement in my reading skills. I can finally understand what I'm reading.” Lily said excitedly.
The success of “ReadEase” didn’t stop there. Alex shared his invention with his school’s teachers, who were deeply impressed by its huge potential. They started using the app in their classes to help students with learning difficulties. Now, Alex is working on improving “ReadEase” and hopes to make it available to more students around the world. “I want to use technology to make a positive impact on people’s lives,” he said with great enthusiasm.
24. Why did Alex decide to create “ReadEase”?
A. To win a science fair. B. To help his close friend.
C. To finish a school project. D. To show his knowledge about AI.
25. What challenge did Alex meet while creating the app?
A. Finding similar examples to follow.
B. Lacking time and money.
C. Figuring out suitable programming languages.
D. Coding programming instructions properly.
26. What can we infer from Lily’s words?
A. She is not used to the app. B. The app is of great help to her.
C. The app doesn’t function well. D. She still has difficulty reading.
27. Which of the following best describes Alex according to the text?
A. Creative and determined. B. Out-going and generous.
C. Humorous and earnest. D. Cool-headed and responsible.

The Indian government may use 3D paintings as virtual speed breakers (减速带) on major highways and roads, in order to check speeding and careless driving, and finally make its deadly roads a little safer. “We are trying out 3D paintings used as virtual speed breakers to avoid unnecessary requirements of speed breakers,” India’s transport minister Nitin Gadkari wrote.
The optical illusions (视觉错觉) are supposed to encourage drivers to slow down automatically. Earlier, India had ordered the removal of all speed breakers from highways, which are considered to be a safety hazard for high-speed vehicles. India has the highest number of road accident deaths in the world. According to the World Health Organisation, over 200,000 people are killed by road accidents.
The use of optical illusions as speed breakers was first pioneered in the American city of Philadelphia in 2008, as part of a campaign against speeding motorists. The technique has also been tried out in China to create floating 3D crossings. In India, cities such as Ahmedabad and Chennai have already experimented with 3D zebra crossings in the last one year. In Ahmedabad for instance, a mother and her daughter, both artists, have painted 3D crosswalks in the first few months of 2016. The artists say their motto is “to increase the attention of drivers”, and that the concept (理念) has been successfully tested in accident-prone zones (事故多发区) on a highway.
However, critics argue that once drivers know that these speed breakers are visual illusions, they may ignore them. Others also point out that India’s decision does not consider the safety of a large number of pedestrians. In the end, the new policy may be just one step towards improving road safety.
28. Why are 3D paintings used on main highways and roads?
A. To make the surroundings more beautiful. B. To attract the attention of tourists.
C. To reduce the rate of traffic accidents. D. To show the advanced technology.
29. Which of the following words is closest to the meaning of “hazard” in paragraph 2?
A. Reminder. B. Threat. C. Regulation. D. Theory.
30. What can we learn from Paragraph 3 and 4?
A. People have different opinions about the use of optical illusions as speed breakers.
B. Philadelphia is the second place to use virtual speed breakers in the US.
C. The idea tested in Ahmedabad recently has been a failure.
D. The new policy of 3D zebra crossings must be carried out.
31. What’s the author’s attitude to Indian’s 3D zebra crossings?
A. Supportive. B. Negative. C. Objective. D. Subjective.

A storm surge (风暴潮) is a rising of the sea brought by tropical cyclones (热带气旋), also known as typhoons or hurricanes. These powerful storms produce strong winds that push the water into shore, often causing flooding.
A storm surge is mainly caused by the relationship between the winds and the ocean’s surface. The water rises where the winds are strongest. In addition, water is pushed in the direction of the winds. The rotation (自转) of the Earth causes winds to move toward the right in the northern hemisphere (半球) and toward the left in the southern hemisphere. If a cyclone develops in the northern hemisphere, the surge will be the largest in the right-forward part of the storm. In the southern hemisphere, the surge will be the largest in the left-forward part.
Atmospheric pressure also plays a key role. In a cyclone the central pressure is lower than the pressure at its edges. This pushes down the water in the outer parts of the storm, causing the water to rise in the center.
More factors contribute to the strength of a storm surge as it comes to the coast. The water can reach as high as 10 meters if the storm surge happens at the same time as high tide. The coast’s slope (坡度) matters too: shallow coasts flood more easily.
The storm surges are a serious danger to coastal areas. They typically form in late summer when ocean temperatures are highest, providing the energy needed for cyclone development. Historically, storm surges have caused terrible losses. For example, the 1900 Galveston Hurricane in the U.S. claimed over 6,000 lives, while the 1970 Bhola Cyclone in Bangladesh resulted in about 500,000 deaths.
Today, improvements in forecasting and warning systems help reduce damage done by a storm surge. Information about surges like speeds, heights and paths is provided, allowing communities to prepare and leave.
Coastal communities can protect themselves against storm surges by protecting local wetlands, which can take in the water and the energy of storm surges. But unfortunately they have made way for the city development.
32. What is a main cause of storm surges?
A. Heavy rainfall during cyclones. B. Earth’s rotation redirecting the winds.
C. Sudden rises in central pressure. D. Strong winds pushing seawater ashore.
33. Where is the largest storm surge in the northern hemisphere?
A. In the center of the cyclone. B. In the coastal areas with wetlands.
C. In the right-forward part of the storm. D. In the left-forward part of the cyclone.
34. Why does the text mention the Galveston Hurricane and Bhola Cyclone?
A. To show the increased cyclone frequency.
B. To stress the damaging effects of storm surges.
C. To explain the economic benefits of wetlands.
D. To compare storm surges in two hemispheres.
35. What will the passage probably talk about next?
A. Strategies to fix coastal wetlands. B. Methods of forecasting cyclone paths.
C. Case studies of recent storm surges. D. Climate change’s impact on cyclones.

A MOTHER’S DAY SURPRISE
The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother’s Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.
The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk. Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely.
Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

A. Supportive. B. Negative. C. Objective. D. Subjective.
【答案】28. C 29. B 30. A 31. C

【答案】32. D 33. C 34. B 35. A

Since its first overseas store was launched in Vietnam in 2018可知,此处强调从过去持续到现在的情况,要用现在完成时,其结构为“have/has + 过去分词”,主语Mixue是第三人称单数,所以谓语动词为has boasted。
【61题详解】
考查介词。句意:蜜雪冰城去年被《时代》杂志列为“全球最具影响力的100家企业”之一。固定搭配be listed as意为“被列为”,所以此处为介词as。

One possible version:
Dear Jack,
I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from addiction to mobile phone games. Actually, it is commonly seen that more and more teenagers get crazy about mobile phone games, which distract them from studies. Besides, it causes a lack of sleep, posing a threat to their health.
Therefore, to avoid it, I recommend you to manage your time wisely and responsibly. The less time you spent on online gaming, the less likely it is you will be addicted. Moreover, if I were you, I would prefer to engage with family and friends outdoors rather than sit on the couch looking down at your phone.
I do hope my suggestions will be helpful to you. Looking forward to your good news.
Best Wishes!
Yours
Lihua

Under the guidance of their father, they took positive actions and started all over again. They made the bread and then went on cooking porridge. Father helped them adjust the fire, which was the key to success. It was all right this time. Delicious breakfast was ready. How happy they were!
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. When their mother saw the delicious and perfect breakfast in front of her, she was very surprised. It was not only the gift, but the love of the children for her that moved her very much. The two children could finish cooking a breakfast, which she didn’t expect. The children said loudly, “Happy Mother’s Day!” Mother hugged them tightly and kissed them again and again.
