My first day in high school will never be forgotten. When I got to the classroom in the morning, I saw that Mr. Brown had already put our names on our tables. After walking a few steps, I saw my name on the table right in the middle of the classroom. Walking up to my table, my heart sang. “It would be great to sit there. I could see everything easily.” I thought to myself.
A while later, the other students entered one by one and took their own seats. And then Mr. Brown started talking. He showed us his classroom rules and tried to explain them. All of a sudden, a student called Tony started singing loudly. All the while he moved his body to the music. His deskmate Josh couldn’t understand why he was doing these things. Then he stood up and talked to Mr. Brown, “I don’t want to sit with this strange guy. Can I swap seats with someone else in this room, please?”
Mr. Brown didn’t answer his question directly. He stopped what he was doing and turned on his computer. Then he showed us some pictures about autistic(自闭症的)kids. He explained that autistic kids have little self-control. They seem to do things that are beyond everyone else’s understanding. However, they can do many other great things, in the field of art or music for example. Then he told us that Tony was not good at maths, but loved songs. “He can sing thousands of songs. What’s more surprising is that he can remember all the words without any mistakes.” In the end, Mr. Brown added that although autistic kids were different, they should be loved.
Since that first day in high school, I became Mr. Brown’s admirer. I was pretty sure Mr. Brown would get all of us on the right track.
24.How did the author feel seeing his table?
A.upset. B.nervous. C.frustrated. D.pleased.
25.What did Mr. Brown do in the class first?
A.He introduced Tony.
B.He explained the classroom rules.
C.He got his computer ready.
D.He showed some pictures.
26.In what way was Tony special?
A.He knew music very well.
B.He was understanding.
C.He had a mathematical mind.
D.He acted politely.
27.What does the author think of Mr. Brown?
A.He is too different to be loved.
B.He has too many admirers.
C.He is off the right track.
D.He can make a great teacher.

If you want to become a fluent English speaker, you should take some advice: there are four skills in learning English. They are listening, speaking, reading and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills, you should first gain the skills of reading and listening.
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentences, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc.
There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammar or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs(输入)in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.
For listening, you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening, you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes. If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.
28.According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills?
A.reading and listening.
B.reading and writing.
C.writing and speaking.
D.speaking and listening.
29.To improve your reading, when you read, you should ______.
A.look up all the new words in the dictionary.
B.think about what you are reading actively.
C.spend more time studying grammar.
D.copy as many words and sentences as possible.
30.What does the underlined word “come across” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.meet by accident. B.wind up. C.lose on purpose. D.look for.
31.Which of the following may the author agree with?
A.Everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day.
B.You needn’t practice listening if you keep in reading every day.
C.Being good at reading is helpful in improving your listening.
D.You should take notes of whatever you are hearing.
D
Life with a clear purpose can be quite satisfying, but most of us live our life unconsciously(无目的地). The daily work keeps our mind busy. Then one Sunday afternoon, when I’m lying in bed, it suddenly hits me. What is my purpose? It’s difficult to answer but it’s very important. Here are a few tips that can help you.
Check if you already have a purpose. If you find your present life purposeless, just look again. In our life there is no purpose that is too small or too big. Even a street sweeper has a very important purpose in his life. Even if you are working in a small shop you should have a clear purpose in the link of life by the service you provide. Maybe you’re supporting a family, or raising kids, which is quite an important purpose. If you think your life is meaningless right now, it would just show that you are not paying enough attention to your present role.
Believe in yourself. Some people get very famous while some live a private life. There is no real difference between the two. Each person must have a certain role and no role is more important than the other. If you have a genius, it’s life’s gift to you. Try to find the best way to use it to something which gives service to people.
Listen to your heart rather than your mind. Heart and mind are just close friends. Your mind must find several excuses to tell you what your heart wants. The voice of heart is always true and it points to your deep dreams.
32.Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?(①=Paragraph 1)
33.What does the writer mention the street sweeper’s important purpose to show?
A.To explain one should pay attention to his role.
B.To show us no purpose is too small or too big.
C.To express the voice of people’s heart is always true.
D.To tell us most people provide service to the society.
34.What does the underlined word “genius” probably mean?
A.problem. B.talent. C.style. D.secret.
35.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.How to Live Our Life.
B.How to Play a Certain Role.
C.How to Have a Clear Purpose.
D.How to Achieve Your Purpose.
