CBC
Eagle Day Camp 段落:For kids aged 5 to 7, there is also a half-day option (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) for $800.
The Eagle Day Camp 段落:There are four 2-week sessions, with the first starting on July 6.
Each program needs at least 6 students to run, or it may be canceled two weeks before the start date.,项目人数不足可能取消,并非所有项目都会如期举行。
No transportation is provided for campers.,学校不提供任何交通服务,“免费校车” 无中生有。
原文说明 the dining hall is closed on Fridays,餐厅周五不开放,因此学生并非每天都能在校购买午餐,“each day” 表述错误。
B
Many years ago when I was a young adult, my thoughts were often shadowed by doubts and fears about my future. I decided to go out for a drive. But suddenly, my day turned into disaster with a brutal head-on collision (撞击).
After I was rushed to hospital, the doctor said, “Due to the injuries, you’ll probably have a difficult time walking, let alone be involved with sports.” I cried uncontrollably imagining the very worst for my future. My parents took over. “Thank you for your advice,” they said calmly, “Our daughter will be up and walking again soon.”
During long days sitting immobile, I started self-reflecting and soul searching. I examined my life’s choices and where my life was heading. I’d made a habit of worrying about future events that had not happened yet. My negative thoughts created mood swings, feelings of despair and depression. I suffered, with anxiety attacks, headaches, and lack of self-esteem.
However, what began as a nightmare, gave me time to learn about personal development and transformation. I learned to change the way I think and decided to replace despair with hope, reactivity with reflection.
With determination and my family’s support, I began to learn how to walk again. Over time, not only did I dance and play basketball again, I transformed my entire way of life. What’s even more amazing, that accident created a pivotal moment, helping me discover my life’s purpose. Inspired by the positive changes made to my life; I dedicated my life to helping others find the same fulfillment.
Thirty-five years later, I authored a wellness book, sharing the lessons I’ve learned. Helping others create lives filled with purpose and happiness has become my greatest joy.
Today, as I reflect on the roads we all must travel, I realize that every twist, every turn, and every setback is an opportunity for growth. If we are open to change, our journeys, no matter how daunting, can offer paths with new horizons and perspective on life.
24. How did the author react to the accident in the beginning?
A. Begging the doctor to help her. B. Deciding to challenge the life.
C. Crying all day but doing nothing. D. Feeling worried and uncertain.
25. What can we infer about the author’s parents?
A. They were upset with the author’s future. B. They played a big role in the author’s recovery.
C. They had thought the doctor might be wrong. D. They comforted and suggested accepting the fact.
26. What is the main factor for the author’s development?
A. The change to the way of thinking. B. The family’s love and support.
C. The determination not to give up. D. The lessons from writing her book.
27. What does the author want to tell us through her story?
A. Where there is a will, there is a way. B. Every difficulty carries a potential to grow.
C. Accidents can change your life for the better. D. Fortune comes to those who help themselves.

I cried uncontrollably imagining the very worst for my future.
第一段背景:my thoughts were often shadowed by doubts and fears about my future.
My parents took over. “Thank you for your advice,” they said calmly, “Our daughter will be up and walking again soon.”
With determination and my family’s support, I began to learn how to walk again.
26. 答案:A
I learned to change the way I think and decided to replace despair with hope, reactivity with reflection.
Over time, not only did I dance and play basketball again, I transformed my entire way of life.
“change the way I think” 是原文明确给出的转变起点,是作者实现个人成长的内在核心驱动力。
I realize that every twist, every turn, and every setback is an opportunity for growth.
C
There is something nice about a continuing adventure—picking up a story that seemed finished, and adding more depth, growth, and excitement. But are sequels (续集) worth it?
I agree that there is joy in seeing something completely new—new characters, new settings, fresh and unpredictable stories. I also admit that if sequels are not made with the same care as the first film, they can be disappointing. Many people argue sequels lack originality, with similar characters and plots. Others say sequels are just a trick to make more money, using popular characters to easily draw audiences. However, I believe sequels can actually be wonderful.
For one thing, sequels can make the story feel more complete. With more time to develop, the storyline can become richer. Wicked, followed by Wicked For Good, is a good example. While the second film was not rated as highly as the first, the added time gave the story more depth.
Additionally, sequels sometimes have more advanced plots than the first film, since the initial story was mostly used for world-building. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is a great example. The original movie had a good plot and could stand alone, but the sequel took everything to another level. Luke grew a lot as a character, and the film set up the whole franchise for future stories.
Thirdly, sequels can introduce new characters that advance the plot in exciting ways. The addition of Jessie in Toy Story 2 is so smooth that I often forget she wasn’t even in the first movie. She brings new energy and emotional depth, and her sad backstory about being abandoned by her previous owner makes the whole film richer.
Upon further reflection, being in college—a sequel of sorts—I do think sequels can be great. There were new characters, small changes in scenery, and lots of personal growth. While there are some things you can only get in the “original”, like your years of high school, there is still so much to learn and experience. So yes, I do believe sequels can be great.
28. Why does the author mention anti-sequel views?
A. To show they are wrong. B. To balance her argument.
C. To agree with moviegoers. D. To introduce popular ideas.
29. What do the two examples in para 3 and para 4 show?
A. Sequels can make stories richer. B. Sequels are usually better films.
C. Sequels take more time to make. D. Sequels sometimes have opener ends.
30. What does the author mean by the example of Jessie?
A. New characters give freshness. B. Toy Story 2 is the best sequel.
C. New characters strengthen stories. D. Sequels need more characters.
31. Why college is compared to a sequel?
A. To show college is exciting. B. To explain growth continues.
C. To prove sequels are common. D. To describe college life.

I agree that there is joy in seeing something completely new... I also admit that if sequels are not made with the same care as the first film, they can be disappointing. Many people argue sequels lack originality... Others say sequels are just a trick to make more money... However, I believe sequels can actually be wonderful.
29. 答案:A
For one thing, sequels can make the story feel more complete. With more time to develop, the storyline can become richer.
Additionally, sequels sometimes have more advanced plots than the first film... the sequel took everything to another level.
Thirdly, sequels can introduce new characters that advance the plot in exciting ways. She brings new energy and emotional depth, and her sad backstory... makes the whole film richer.
Upon further reflection, being in college—a sequel of sorts—I do think sequels can be great. There were new characters, small changes in scenery, and lots of personal growth... there is still so much to learn and experience.
D
There is no need to head to the movie theater or download the video game app: Angry Birds can be found right in your backyard this summer—if you live in the suburb (市郊). Virginia Tech researchers recently found that birds that live in suburban areas exhibit significantly higher levels of anger than those living in country. The results were recently published in Biology Letters. The finding offers a fresh look at how human influence shapes wildlife behaviour, reminding us that city life changes even the smallest creatures.
“A possible reason for this is that these birds have less space but better resources to defend,” said Scott Davies, an expert at biological sciences in the College of Science. “Living near humans provides better food and shelter, but it also means more competition for these limited resources.”
The Virginia Tech and Radford University campuses served as the suburban sites due to their levels of human impact. Rural sites included Kentland Farm and Heritage Park. In these settings, the researchers played a recording of a male song sparrow and observed how the birds responded to a simulated intrusion (入侵) from a neighbor.
Campus birds showed a higher level of aggression: they approached and remained near the speaker, beat their wings wildly, engaged in loud singing and then began to produce “soft song”—a term that researchers use to describe the quiet noise that a bird makes, which indicates an attack is to be launched soon.
Though rural birds still responded to a song intrusion, they did not respond as vigorously.
The researchers placed small leg bands on the birds to identify individuals, and recorded each individual’s responses twice, several weeks apart. The suburban birds reacted more fiercely on both occasions, showing that their increased aggression lasts throughout a breeding season. The team hopes the study will encourage people to pay more attention to the animals living around us and think about how we share space with them.
32. What can we know about the study by Virginia Tech researchers?
A. There are more angry birds in suburban areas than in rural areas.
B. Angry birds prefer to live in suburban areas instead of in country.
C. Birds living in suburban areas tend to show a higher level of anger.
D. Birds in rural areas prefer to live near humans for food and shelter.
33. How did the researchers measure the level of different birds’ anger?
A. Recording the reactions of song sparrows to their neighbors’ intrusion.
B. Placing small leg bands on the birds to identify different individuals.
C. Observing the birds’ responses to a recording of male song sparrows.
D. Approaching the birds in order to listen to their soft and quiet songs.
34. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “vigorously” in paragraph 5?
A. mildly B. strongly C. helplessly D. gently
35. How is the passage mainly developed?
A. Argue and persuade B. Compare and judge
C. Discuss and examine D. Inform and explain

Virginia Tech researchers recently found that birds that live in suburban areas exhibit significantly higher levels of anger than those living in country.
tend to show a higher level of anger 与原文 exhibit significantly higher levels of anger 构成完美同义转述,完全符合研究结论。
In these settings, the researchers played a recording of a male song sparrow and observed how the birds responded to a simulated intrusion (入侵) from a neighbor.
Though rural birds still responded to a song intrusion, they did not respond as vigorously.
首段抛出核心研究发现:郊区鸟类比农村鸟类攻击性显著更强;
第二段解释现象背后的原因:生存空间有限但资源更优,引发种内竞争;
第三至五段介绍实验地点、实验设计、观测到的攻击性行为,对比郊区与农村鸟类的反应差异;
An October 2024 article revealed an alarming trend: Students entering universities often complete high school without ever reading an entire novel, let alone reading aloud. As texts become a means, a pipeline for skill acquisition, consuming shorter texts will enhance academic performance, which will result in more desirable educational outcomes, including college admission. 36____________
It’s easy then to assume that the reason students aren’t reading books is because they aren’t being asked to. 37_____________ Schools have slowly changed the relationship between students and books. Reading (or being read to) is no longer seen as an act that has intrinsic (内在的) value, a joy worth pursuing for its own sake (目的). By reading aloud to older students, I’m exploring to periodically break the link between reading and working.
38______________ They will consume short stories, poems, long nonfiction articles, and even entire novels. I hope that when reading inevitably becomes tough, they will remember the times, not so long ago when their teacher read them a story. 39______________
“A good story, well told.” That is how my father described the books I cherished as a child. I’ve fallen in love with many books since then, but the stories I loved most are the ones he read to me. 40__________ At least, that’s the story I’m telling myself.
A. Actually, something deeper is happening.
B. My students will continue reading texts on their own.
C. They will recall the real experiences while reading aloud.
D. They never know what it means to read aloud a long passage.
E. I’m sure reading aloud will help my students love books as I do.
F. As a result, many students are required only to read short passages.
G. Therefore, high school students are rather familiar with short passages.
FABCE
As a result, many students are required only to read short passages.(结果,很多学生只被要求阅读短篇文章):承接前文 “短文本有应试优势” 的原因,直接解释了首句 “高中生毕业没读过整本小说” 的现象,因果逻辑连贯。
G:Therefore, high school students are rather familiar with short passages.(因此高中生对短篇很熟悉)属于 “间接结果”,不如 F 项 “只被要求读短篇” 更直接对应 “没读过整本小说” 的核心现象。
My students will continue reading texts on their own.(我的学生会继续自主阅读各类文本):作为段首总起句,明确了后文 They 的指代对象,同时承接上文 “朗读教学法” 带来的积极效果,逻辑顺畅。
They will recall the real experiences while reading aloud.(他们在自主朗读时,会回想起这些真切的经历):承接前文 “remember the times”,进一步说明这份记忆的作用 —— 学生自己朗读时会唤起当时的体验,形成语义上的递进。
They never know what it means to read aloud a long passage.(他们从不知道朗读长篇是什么感受):与原文矛盾,老师会给学生朗读故事,学生有相关体验,故排除。
G 项 Therefore, high school students are rather familiar with short passages.(因此高中生对短篇文章很熟悉):属于表层结果,不如 F 项精准承接因果、解释核心现象,故排除。

56. a 57 hardship 58. It 59. changes 60. to complete
61. equipped 62. which 63. more productive 64. are using 65. in
+ 时间 + to do sth.(做某事花费某人多长时间),句中 the same work 是 take 的逻辑宾语,后面用不定式to complete作补足语,表示 “完成这项工作”。
Ding Zehui has convinced his family to buy an unmanned seeder,空格部分是修饰 seeder(播种机)的后置定语。
补充固定搭配:be equipped with…
详细解析:a breakthrough in…

It was a cold, snowy evening. Tommy was running as fast as he could, focused on nothing but his destination—the shop on the street corner. Two weeks ago he saw figurines (小塑像) of Marvel superheroes on the shelves and felt he had to have one. He had been walking the neighbor’s dog ever since then to earn money to fulfil his little dream. He was so excited and barely noticing the world around him. Maybe that was why he tripped over the legs of a homeless woman, who was sitting on the pavement, her back against the wall. He murmured (低语) “sorry” and moved on to his destination.
Once he entered the shop, he went straight to the shelves with figurines. Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and many more—all of his admired heroes. With his heart pounding like crazy he reached for Spiderman.
“You like these, true believer?”
Tommy turned around. An old man was standing behind him with a wide smile on his face.
“Y-yes, …Yes, they’re awesome!” answered Tommy. “They’re strong and fast and help other people a lot …” the boy looked at figurines in admiration. “I wish I could be a superhero too.”
“Then become one!” said the old man.
“How?” Tommy asked in surprise. “I don’t have any superpowers.”
“And why would you need them?” the old man smiled. Seeing the confusion on the boy’s face, he squatted (蹲下) and put his hands on Tommy’s arms. “Did you know that shopkeeper lady over there has a disabled husband? She’s been working hard and taking care of him for years. I’ve never heard a word of complaint from her. And this person —” he pointed at a redhead man, who just entered the shop. “He’s a firefighter; he’s saved countless lives. He never gives up, no matter how dangerous the situation seems to be.”
The old man looked Tommy in the eyes and smiled. “You don’t need a superpower to be a hero for someone else. The path of a superhero starts not in the mind, not in the muscles, but in the heart.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
Tommy lowered his head and looked at his shoes thinking intensely.

Tommy lowered his head and looked at his shoes thinking intensely. The old man’s words struck a chord deep in his heart. It dawned on him that heroism never lies in magic superpowers, but lies in sincere care for others. He instantly thought of the homeless woman he often passed by. Before, he had always walked away without a second glance. But now he made up his mind to do something. Waving goodbye to the old man, he rushed out of the shop at once.
The homeless woman was right there, where he saw her last time. Tommy approached her gently and offered the food he had just bought. He told her he hoped it could bring her some warmth. A faint yet bright smile appeared on the woman’s face. In that instant, Tommy came to grasp the truth: anyone can be a hero. It is small acts of kindness and a loving heart that make a real superhero.
