第一节 (满分15分)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to convey my sincere apology for failing to collect and organize the questionnaires on senior high students’ after-school activities by this Wednesday, which I had promised to complete.
Fully occupied with preparations for exams, I found myself unable to spare enough time to distribute the forms and compile the responses. Had I anticipated how demanding my schedule would become, I would have informed you earlier. I deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused to your arrangements.
Please rest assured that I will finish the work by this Friday evening. I would greatly appreciate your understanding and forgiveness.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
Seeing that everyone was buried in their warm chat, I quietly walked towards the bedroom. I found Nova sitting on the floor, hugging her stuffed rabbit, eyes red with tears. I sat beside her and gave her a candy, the kind I used to hide in my pocket as a shy kid. “I used to hate these forced greetings too,” I whispered. She slowly relaxed, letting me braid her hair with a colorful ribbon I found on the bed. Soon, she even began to tell me about her favorite cartoon character in a low voice.
Just at that moment, Joey came in, about to blame Nova for hiding again. Before she could speak, I stood up and said softly, “She’s just shy, like I was at her age. She needs more time, not pressure.” Joey paused, then sighed and nodded in understanding. Later, the adults spoke to her gently, and by the end of the gathering, Nova even waved goodbye to everyone with a small, bright smile. That day, I realized how a little empathy could change everything for a shy child.

Maya Martinez, a high school senior living in a fog-covered coastal village in North California, noticed that the community garden was gradually drying up during the driest summer on record. While the villagers remained helpless, Maya chose to spend her afternoons carefully observing the thick mist that rolled in from the sea.
Maya had already identified a critical fault in traditional fog-collecting mesh nets (网状网): they frequently became blocked by the very water drops they caught, which severely reduced their effectiveness. Digging deeper into solutions, Maya found a novel device designed by two scientists — the “Fog Harp (竖琴)”.
Maya decided to use the handy materials to create her own “Fog Harp”. At first, neighbors watched the process with doubt as she strung hundreds of thin, upright wires across a solid wooden frame. To them, the setup looked no more than “a giant musical instrument” that only produced useless sounds in the cold coastal wind. Little did they know this simple-looking setup would soon prove surprisingly effective.
The remarkable efficiency of Maya’s Fog Harp lies in its clever use of gravity. In a traditional mesh net, tiny water drops get easily trapped within the small square gaps, which stop further collection. This occurs because the surface tension — the invisible, stretchy “skin” of liquid water — is too strong for the small drops to overcome. In Maya’s Fog Harp, by contrast, water drops hit the wires and slowly combine into larger drops. Most importantly, with no cross wires to hold these larger drops in place, gravity easily overcomes surface tension, allowing the water to slide effortlessly down the wires and collect in a tank below.
Of course, the project faced its share of setbacks. During one severe coastal storm, the extreme wind tore through the wooden frame. Yet, instead of giving in to despair, she immediately set out to fix the problem by reinforcing the entire structure with durable steel wires. By the time autumn arrived, Maya’s “Fog Harps” were reliably producing plenty of fresh water every day, partly meeting the daily water needs of the village.
39.Why did Maya observe the thick mist in her afternoons?
A.To predict the weather conditions.
B.To clarify the reasons for drought.
C.To check the efficiency of the mesh nets.
D.To work out a solution to water shortage.
40.What can we know about Maya’s“Fog Harp”?
A.It was a musical instrument. B.It invited villagers’acid words.
C.It presented an inborn fault. D.It featured a solid metal frame.
41.What is the key for Maya’s Fog Harp to function well?
A.Its upright-wire design. B.Its mesh-net structure.
C.Its weak surface tension. D.Its resistance to gravity.
42.What can we learn from Maya’s story?
A.Look before you leap. B.Better late than never.
C.Think outside the box. D.Time waits for no man.

Every year, thousands of Americans join the National River Cleanup Day, collecting waste that blocks waterways and harms wildlife. Launched in 1991 by the nonprofit American Rivers, this event promotes community river protection. However, most people only do occasional cleanups. In fact, full-time guardians — “riverkeepers”, “baykeepers”, or “waterkeepers” — play a key daily role. Let’s explore the riverkeeper movement and its lessons for citizen-led environmental efforts.
Fifty years ago, US waterways were far more polluted: poorly dammed, changed, and poisoned by uncontrolled pollution. River fires were common. New York’s Hudson River was badly polluted by industrial waste by the mid-1960s. This serious pollution led to citizen action: singer Pete Seeger founded advocacy (拥护) group Hudson River Sloop Clearwater in 1966, and local fishermen united the same year to fight polluters with an 1888 federal law. The fishermen’s success resulted in the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association, renamed Riverkeeper in 1986. Other protection groups followed similar models. In 1999, the Waterkeeper Alliance was founded to unite and support all the “keeper” groups in the U.S. and abroad.
Riverkeeper early succeeded with two federal laws: the 1888 Rivers and Harbors Act and 1899 Refuse Act. These laws banned (禁止) pollution of US waters and offered riverkeepers rewards (奖金) for reporting people who broke the laws. The money helped Riverkeeper buy patrol (巡逻) boats and hire staff, making the Hudson a global ecosystem model.
Public concern drove government action: the 1968 Wild and Scenic Rivers Act protected rivers from dams, while 1970’s EPA and 1972’s Clean Water Act cut pollution. These policies, with citizen efforts, greatly improved many US rivers.
Modern riverkeepers protect waterways through monitoring, pollution testing, and problem-solving. The Hudson Riverkeeper patrols 6,000 sea miles yearly, testing water quality at 74 sites. They educate unaware polluters and take legal action against serious breaks of the Clean Water Act.
Today’s riverkeepers still face both new and traditional pollution challenges worsened by climate change, so their work remains highly significant.
43. Why did the Hudson River fishermen form an association?
A. To apply for federal laws. B. To promote fishing activities.
C. To support Pete Seeger’s group. D. To fight against water pollution.
44. What helped the early Riverkeeper make great achievements?
A. Advanced equipment for water testing. B. Payments for reporting illegal polluters.
C. Donations from environmental organizations. D. Financial support from the local government.
45. What is the main idea of the second-to-last paragraph?
A. The modern working ways of riverkeepers. B. The measures to punish serious polluters.
C. The necessity of testing water quality. D. The patrol work of Hudson Riverkeeper.
46. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. The Role of National River Cleanup Day
B. The History of American River Protection
C. The Fight Against River Pollution in the US
D. The Riverkeeper Movement and Its Importance

Exams are nerve-racking, especially for those already of an anxious character. It seems barely surprising that those who worry about taking tests do systematically worse than those who do not. What is, perhaps, surprising, according to research published recently in Psychological Science by Maria Theobald, is that it is not the pressure of the exam hall but the pressure of revision that causes the problem.
Dr Theobald theorized that if anxiety was truly interfering with a student’s ability to transfer known information from brain to paper via pen, then those with high levels of it would perform worse in a real exam than in either a mock (模考) beforehand or during online practice sessions. Besides, she expected this performance-drop to correlate with levels of self-reported exam nerves.
She therefore worked with 309 German medical students who were preparing for their final state exam, the most important that they take. This test consists of 230 questions split into three five-hour sessions over three days.
All her volunteers sat a mock examination, clearly presented to them as such, 40 days before the real thing. To assess their levels of anxiety, they were asked, every day for 40 days in the run-up to the real exam and also on the day of that exam, to respond on a five-point scale to statements like, “I feel tense and nervous.” On the day of the mock they were similarly asked to rate statements like, “I worry whether I have studied enough.”
What Dr Theobald found was not what she expected. Anxiety on the day of test did not predict exam performance at all. What did predict it was the level of knowledge a student displayed in the mock exam and the earlier digital-learning activities. Those who performed well in these also did well in the real thing, regardless of how anxious they were on the day. What actually hampered students, it turned out, were high levels of anxiety during the weeks before the exam took place.
And this discovery is far-reaching, for it suggests a change of approach to revision by the anxious might help improve their results. Dr Theobald notes that test-anxiety is at its worst when students have low expectations of success and simultaneously (同时地) know that passing the exam is exceedingly important.
47.What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?
A.The theoretical basis. B.The research result.
C.The testing assumption. D.The experimental process.
48.What can we infer from the research?
A.Anxiety before the exam brings better exam performance.
B.Anxiety before the exam restricts students’ ability in exams.
C.Anxiety on the day of the test predicts the result of the exam.
D.Anxiety on the day of the test intervenes in students’ ability in exams.
49.What is the author’s attitude toward Dr Theobald’s study?
A.Favorable. B.Unclear. C.Doubtful. D.Dismissive.
50.What will the following paragraph probably talk about according to the passage?
A.How to carry out revision plans scientifically.
B.How to reduce test-anxiety when reviewing.
C.How to get satisfying scores well in exams.
D.How to ease study pressure.

The doorbell rang, and I looked up from the couch to see the last group to arrive. It was Cousin Joey, her husband, Finn, and their little daughter, Nova. I hadn’t seen them in a while. My father’s side of the family would have family gatherings every Saturday evening in my Granny’s place, but I hadn’t been attending them recently since it clashed with my part-time job as a barista (咖啡师). Granny also lived quite far away, so usually just my parents and my brother would go. This week, however, I had the day off. So here I was, meeting relatives I hadn’t seen for long.
We were a big family. I had a bunch of cousins at least ten years older than me. A few of them, including Cousin Joey, had children. Little Nova was about four to five, the first great-grandchild and the youngest in the family. The next was me, with a 15-year gap. Having my brother was a blessing. When we were little, all cousins were young adults. Being the only two kids was overwhelming. My outgoing brother shared adults’ attention for me. But for Nova, all eyes were fixed on her.
“Nova, say hello to Great Granny,”Joey pulled her arm. Nova frowned, looked down and stepped back.“Don’t be rude,”Joey insisted. Nova shook her head, hiding behind Joey’s legs. Finn grabbed her arm and pulled her forward. Adults kept urging her to be polite, some harsh and some gentle. Watching this, my palms grew sweaty. Nova looked close to tears, her frown so deep as if it could pinch a fly to death.
After a long struggle, Nova whispered a greeting too quiet to hear. Then she was set free to a bedroom. The adults stayed in the living room. “Nova is just like Kristi, isn’t she?” my mom said. “You two are so shy and stubborn,” Joey added, staring at me. I forced an awkward smile. Mom began talking about how difficult I was as a kid. Seeing Nova brought back my unwanted bitter memories. I truly understood how she felt deep inside.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Seeing that everyone was buried in their warm chat, I quietly walked towards the bedroom.

Unlike many people, I didn't play for fun, but competed in competitions. Hundreds of players go to a large building, usually a hotel, and against each other with strict rules. I did this until I was a teenager. The competition was strong. The interesting thing about playing card games in competition is how the watching crowd affects your ability to make decision. Card games are all about thinking about moves. This is something we all have to do everyday. The cool thing about card games is that they keep your thoughts away from everything else. IT is pure thinking, but in competitions, people make simple mistakes that would seem crazy when playing for fun. In real life, we don't get to see our decisions and the results so clearly. As with card games, however, people watching and judging your moves affects your thinking more than you can imagine. For me, that is the real lesson of card games. IT is a lesson I still remember as an adult. When I was Young, I used to play card games. Unlike many people, I didn't play for fun, but competed in competitions.
