B More than 20 years ago, if someone had told Chao Ziyi and Chao Ziwei — two brothers from Henan, who earned their living by making large bowls — that one day they would become artists, they would have laughed it off. But life often takes unexpected turns. Today, the brothers’ ceramic works are exhibited both in China and abroad. Although the brothers have never studied art in a formal school, they have created their own unique ceramic style. They also lecture at Jingdezhen Ceramic University in Jiangxi. An exhibition now underway at the university’s art museum tells the story of their artistic path, showing how these two craftsmen entered the world of ceramic art with help from professional artists and teachers. The exhibition features more than 1,500 works, with a great variety of subjects — books, shoes, tractors, old gatehouses, and animals. Ceramics, deeply connected to Chinese tradition, become a way for them to express personal memories and share social experiences in a modern way. The brothers still do every step of the ceramic-making process themselves, just as they did in their early years in the family trade. Over time, they have continued to challenge themselves, exploring new sizes and structures. By copying the textured look of bronze and rusted iron, they give their works a fresh, contemporary feel. Professor Lyu Pinchang, an artist who once guided them at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, says the brothers have moved from strict control of technique to embracing uncertainty, which helped them understand ceramics more deeply. He adds that they have always stayed true to their work — whether making bowls in the past or creating art now — and their devotion sets a great example for young students. Rising from humble beginnings as bowl makers, the Chao brothers have brought a renewed spirit of craftsmanship into contemporary ceramic art. 4. What was the Chao brothers’ life like over 20 years ago? A. Ordinary. B. Adventurous. C. Colorful. D. Ambitious. 5. What do we know about the exhibition on show? A. It reflects their skills of modern art. B. It covers a wide range of subjects. C. It tells their memories of hard life. D. It shows their preference of nature. 6. What does Professor Lyu Pinchang think of the two brothers? A. Innovative and devoted. B. Curious and productive. C. Determined and brave. D. Kind-hearted and strict. 7. What can we learn from the two brothers’ story? A. Life is a struggle, not a race. B. Love breaks down barriers. C. Every trade has its master. D. Education is the key to success. C Imagine if an airliner only lasted a single journey and a new one had to be built for every single flight. It may sound crazy, but in the world of spaceflight, this “single-use” approach is a well-established practice. The first rockets to launch humans into orbit back in the 1960s were changed military missiles, so it’s no surprise they were designed for just one flight each. For space operators like NASA, however, the result was painfully expensive. Adjusted to modern prices, the cost of putting a payload (有效载荷) into orbit using one of those early rockets was around $ 30,000 (¥201,222) per kilogram. The obvious solution was to make space launchers reusable, and NASA came up with just such an approach that it believed would greatly reduce launch costs. This was the Space Shuttle, which first flew in 1981. Unfortunately, the Space Shuttle pushed costs in the wrong direction. Despite its reusable design, it still managed to use $ 65,000 (¥435,992) for every kilogram it delivered to orbit. The problem was that in order to achieve reusability with 20th-century technology, the Space Shuttle had to be very complicated. To bring it back in one piece to the earth, it had to be flown down through the atmosphere by human pilots. The need for pilots, heat shielding (屏蔽) and complex control systems was what made costs high. Then came Space X. In 2015, the company showed it was possible to safely land the first stage of its Falcon 9 rocket back on a platform in the ocean. Later landings took place on land. This was a game-changer. It meant that the expensive part of the rocket could be reused dozens of times. The cost of launching payloads fell to around $ 2,700 (¥18,110) per kilogram. Space X’s approach is still not perfect. The second stage of Falcon 9 is still thrown away after each launch. And reusing rocket stages requires heavy inspection and repairs after every flight. Even so, it’s a huge improvement on what came before. 8. Why were the earliest manned rockets single-use? A. They were too expensive to be reused. B. It was hard to recover them from space. C. Scientists hadn’t found better materials. D. They were adapted from military missiles. 9. What was NASA’s original goal of developing the Space Shuttle? A. To cut the price of space launching. B. To improve the safety of space travel. C. To test 20th-century space technology. D. To compete with other space agencies. 10. What made the Space Shuttle fail to reduce launch costs? A. Its heavy weight. B. Its complex structure. C. Its limited service life. D. Its poor heat shielding. 11. What can we infer about Space X’s Falcon 9 rocket? A. It can be fully reused after each launch. B. It greatly lowers the cost of space launch. C. Its second stage can land on land platforms. D. It needs no examination after landing. D Novelists have different ways of describing laughter. Characters can wear a big smile, be all smiles, crack a smile, grin from ear to ear, break into a smile and so on. The richness of language may suggest that laughter has limitless diversity (多样性). However, it may be wrong. A new study led by Dr Roza Kamiloglu, provides evidence that there are just two main types of laughter: one generated when people find something funny and one that can be caused only through the physical act of tickling (挠痒痒). Dr Kamiloglu instructed assistants to collect 887 videos that were then classified, ranging from tickle attacks to laughing for other factors. About 70% of these videos were used to train a machine-learning algorithm (算法) to classify laughter by reasons. The algorithm was then asked to classify the remaining 30% and correctly identified laughter produced by tickling 62.5% of the time. All other forms of laughter, whether they came from viewing stand-up comedy or practical jokes, were difficult to tell apart. This suggested there was something unique about the tickling laughter. When Dr Kamiloglu ran the experiment again, asking human observers to classify the laughter, a similar result showed: Human observers correctly identified tickling laughter 61.2% of the time. The findings made scientists reflect on the roots of laughter. After all, humans are not the only animals that can laugh and tickle. This points to the fact that laughter from tickling developed over 10 million years ago. This early sort of laughter probably developed to help primates (灵长目动物) build friendly relations. As for other forms of laughter, they probably developed millions of years after tickling, when human brain became complex enough to understand deeper meanings. 12. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 1 refer to? A. The richness of human language. B. The approach to describing laughter. C. The idea of countless kinds of laughter. D. The complexity of classifying laughter. 13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. The process of the research. B. The contents of the videos. C. The methods of generating laughter. D. The working principle of the algorithm. 14. What can we learn from the research findings? A. All the forms of laughter are difficult to tell apart. B. Tickling laughter developed much later than others. C. Primates use tickling to build pleasant relationships. D. Humans’ laughter is far more complex than primates’. 15. What might be the best title for the text? A. The Origin of Laughter: All Starts from Tickling B. Laughter in Animals: How do Primates Build Relations? C. The Language of Laughter: How do Writers Describe Joy? D. Types of Laughter: Humans Laugh in Two Different Ways Ice climbing is a lot like rock climbing, but it’s done on ice using special tools. Everyone in the community thought he was bad-tempered and difficult to get along with, as he disliked noisy pets and would get annoyed over small matters. Having lost his wife years earlier, he had lived alone for a long time, growing quiet, cold and distant from all his neighbors. I soon felt Mr. Henderson’s cold attitude myself after settling down. Whenever I greeted him with a smile, he would merely glance at me and walk off in silence. The only time he approached me was to complain that my dogs’ constant barking ruined his peace. At one point, he even warned me seriously that he would call the police if I failed to keep my dogs under control. Hoping to avoid trouble, I tried hard to keep my dogs quiet and kept them away from his property as much as possible. Even so, a cold, unspoken divide always lay between us. One freezing winter afternoon, overnight snow had covered the whole neighborhood, leaving the sidewalk coated with slippery ice. The bitter cold kept most people indoors, making the streets unusually quiet. I was busy with housework inside my house, while my dogs wandered and played in the fenced yard. All was calm until my dogs suddenly broke into sharp, desperate barks, nothing like their usual playful noise. Shocked at their strange reaction, I rushed to the window to check. I spotted my dogs circling anxiously around a figure on the icy sidewalk. I leaned forward and realized it was Mr. Henderson. He must have slipped on the frozen pavement and taken a hard fall. Completely alone in the biting wind, he lay there lifelessly. Great concern flooded my mind, as I knew he would face serious risks from the freezing weather if no one helped him right away. Without hesitation, I rushed out to give a hand. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Days later, Mr. Henderson showed up at my doorstep with a bag of dog treats. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 大庆实验中学实验二部2025级高二上阶段考试 英语试题 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分20分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 1. 4. A 5. B 6. 8. D 9. A 10. B 11. This was the Space Shuttle, which first flew in 1981.(显而易见的解决办法是让太空发射器可重复使用,美国国家航空航天局想出了这样一个方案,他们相信这会大幅降低发射成本。 根据第三段“The problem was that in order to achieve reusability with 20th-century technology, the Space Shuttle had to be very complicated. 以及“The need for pilots, heat shielding (屏蔽) and complex control systems was what made costs high. 根据第四段“This was a game-changer. It meant that the expensive part of the rocket could be reused dozens of times. The cost of launching payloads fell to around $ 2,700 (¥18,110) per kilogram.(这是一个颠覆性的突破。 D Novelists have different ways of describing laughter. 15. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文: Without hesitation, I rushed out to give a hand. Dashing straight to Mr. Henderson’s side, I knelt down to check his condition and called out his name loudly to wake him up. He slowly opened his eyes in response to my voice, yet the sharp pain in his injured leg forced him to groan. Aware of the severity of his injury, I pulled out my phone immediately to call an ambulance. Meanwhile, my dogs gathered around him, blocking the chilly wind and keeping him warm. Shortly afterwards, the ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital for professional treatment. Days later, Mr. Henderson showed up at my doorstep with a bag of dog treats. He apologized sincerely for his previous rude attitude and unreasonable complaints about my dogs, while expressing his heartfelt gratitude for everything my dogs and I had done for him. He handed me the treats as a small token of his appreciation. Thereafter, the cold invisible barrier between us faded away. Mr. Henderson would often drop by to feed my dogs, and we eventually built a warm, harmonious bond. Tiny acts of kindness, along with the warmth brought by lovely pets, can melt indifference and bond people closer. 词汇激活 行为类 ①蹲下:kneel down/sink down/crouch down ②拿出:pull out/draw out/take out 情绪类 ①感激:gratitude/thankfulness ②冷漠:indifference/coldness 【点睛】[高分句型1] Aware of the severity of his injury, I pulled out my phone immediately to call an ambulance.(运用了形容词短语作状语) [高分句型2] Meanwhile, my dogs gathered around him, blocking the chilly wind and keeping him warm.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
