Dear Jim,
I’m thrilled to receive your email. Knowing that you are interested in the themed activity Embrace Yourself, Grow Positively, I’m writing to share detailed information with you, hoping it can help.
This mental-health activity was held on our school playground last week. It aimed to ease students’ academic pressure and help us form a positive attitude towards life. Well-organized and full of content, it started with relaxing group games. We released negative feelings, strengthened friendship and openly shared our worries. Besides, a professional psychologist gave a lecture. He analyzed common teenage pressure, offered practical methods to handle anxiety and self-doubt, and gave on-site guidance to stressed students.
The activity was popular among us. Many felt much relieved and more confident. It made us realize accepting ourselves and managing negative emotions well matters a lot for our growth.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Jin

Nowadays, the streaming music field is filled with seemingly similar services and interchangeable functions. However, a deeper dive shows that many of the highest-rated streaming music apps include a wide range of features. We’ve tested the notable names to help you narrow down your choices.

14-year-old Jory Thomas was just staying with his grandparents on their campground near Yellowstone River. Jory had his lariat (套索) to practice the roping skills he’d been learning for the past year. That’s when he heard cries for help from the nearby river.
“We all heard, ‘Help, help,’” Jory said to KTVQ News. “There were four people floating (漂浮) down the river.”
A boat carrying four people crashed into a bridge, knocking them all into the Yellowstone River. While three of them made it to shore, the fourth was floating quickly downstream. Without thinking too much, Jory emptied his pockets and took his lariat, rushing to help.
“The current was pretty fast then, and he was moving pretty quickly,” said Jory. “The only thing I could focus on was helping him get out of the water because I didn’t want to see anyone go in front of me.”
Jory had been practicing using a lariat to rope a human-like model on his parents’ farm nearly every afternoon when the weather was fair. Ready for action, Jory ran into the shallower (较浅的) part of the river, getting chest-deep into the water. Letting his training do the work, Jory used his 12-foot lariat to rope the man. Luckily, Jory caught the man on his first try. Then Jory slowly pulled him to shore as other helpers arrived.
Sandy, Jory’s grandmother, said, “The whole community is proud of him. We’ve heard a lot of praise, but that’s Jory. His first reaction always is to help other people. He’s always been that way.”
“Jory saved the man’s life. Had Jory not acted, I believe the chances of this man making it to shore were very slim,” said Sweet Grass County Sheriff Alan Ronneberg. “Jory is a lesson for all of us and showed us what is courageous and right.”
4.How did Jory react to the cries for help?
A.He ran away in panic. B.He asked for advice first.
C.He checked nearby camps. D.He quickly decided to help.
5.What played a key role in Jory’s success in saving the man?
A.The fair weather. B.The man’s calmness.
C.His great roping skills. D.His grandparents’ encouragement.
6.What does Sandy probably think of Jory’s heroic action?
A.Unsurprising. B.Irregular. C.Creative. D.Confusing.
7.Why is Alan Ronneberg mentioned in the text?
A.To teach Jory a lesson. B.To speak highly of Jory.
C.To show the man’s thankfulness. D.To stress the importance of safety.
【答案】4.D 5.C 6.A 7.B
根据第三段“Without thinking too much, Jory emptied his pockets and took his lariat, rushing to help. (Jory没有多想,清空口袋,拿起套索就冲过去帮忙。)”可知,听到呼救后,他迅速决定出手救人。
5.细节理解题。根据第五段“Jory had been practicing using a lariat to rope a human-like model on his parents’ farm nearly every afternoon when the weather was fair. (每当天气晴好时,Jory几乎每天下午都会在父母的农场用绳索练习拴住一个类人模型。)”以及“Letting his training do the work, Jory used his 12-foot lariat to rope the man. (他依靠训练完成任务,用12英尺长的绳子将那人绑住。)”可知,他熟练的套索技能是救人成功的关键。
6.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Sandy, Jory’s grandmother, said, ‘The whole community is proud of him. We’ve heard a lot of praise, but that’s Jory. His first reaction always is to help other people. He’s always been that way.’ (祖母Sandy说:“整个社区都为他骄傲。但这就是Jory,他第一反应总是帮助别人,他一直都是这样。”)”可知,祖母认为Jory做出这样的英雄举动并不意外。
7.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Jory saved the man’s life...Jory is a lesson for all of us and showed us what is courageous and right. (Jory救了这人一命,他向所有人展示了什么是勇敢与正义。)”可知,警长这段话是高度赞扬Jory。

The rise of smartphones has led to a new problem — “nomophobia”, or the fear of being without your mobile phone. A recent study found that a significant number of people experience anxiety when they don’t have their phones with them.
The study surveyed 1,000 smartphone users. It showed that about 66% of them felt anxious when their phone was out of reach. This anxiety was more pronounced among younger generations. For example, 80% of 18-to-24-year-olds reported feeling worried when they didn’t have their phones, compared to 48% of those aged 55 and above.
One of the main reasons for nomophobia is the over-reliance on smartphones for various aspects of daily life. People use their phones for communication, entertainment, work, and even navigation. Without their phones, they feel disconnected from the world. For instance, if someone is lost and doesn’t have their phone’s GPS, they may feel panicked.
Another factor is the fear of missing out (FOMO). Social media platforms on smartphones keep people constantly updated on what their friends and peers are doing. When people don’t have access to their phones, they worry that they might be missing important events, updates, or conversations.
To overcome nomophobia, experts suggest gradually reducing phone usage. Set specific times during the day when you turn off your phone and engage in other activities, such as reading a book, going for a walk, or having a face-to-face conversation with someone. This can help break the psychological dependence on the phone.
8.What does the underlined word “nomophobia” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.The fear of losing one’s phone.
B.The over-reliance on smartphones.
C.The fear of being without a phone.
D.The addiction to mobile games.
9.Which age group is more likely to experience nomophobia?
A.55-year-olds and above. B.25-to-34-year-olds.
C.35-to-54-year-olds. D.18-to-24-year-olds.
10.What is one of the reasons for nomophobia according to the passage?
A.The over-reliance on smartphones. B.The fear of damaging the phone.
C.The high cost of smartphones. D.The poor quality of phone signals.
11.How can people overcome nomophobia?
A.By buying a new phone.
B.By reducing phone usage gradually.
C.By using the phone more often.
D.By turning off the phone all the time.
【答案】8.C 9.D 10.A 11.B
根据文章第一段中的 “The rise of smartphones has led to a new problem — ‘nomophobia’, or the fear of being without your mobile phone.(智能手机的兴起导致了一个新问题——“nomophobia”,即害怕没有手机。)”可知,破折号后面的内容 “the fear of being without your mobile phone” 是对 “nomophobia” 的直接解释,意为“害怕手机不在身边/没有手机”。C选项“The fear of being without a phone.(害怕没有手机。)”
根据文章第二段中的 “For example, 80% of 18-to-24-year-olds reported feeling worried when they didn’t have their phones, compared to 48% of those aged 55 and above. (例如,80%的18至24岁年轻人表示在没有手机时会感到焦虑,相比之下55岁及以上人群中这一比例为48%。)”可知,18至24岁的年轻人焦虑比例最高,最容易经历“无手机焦虑症”。
10.细节理解题。根据文章第三段首句 “One of the main reasons for nomophobia is the over-reliance on smartphones for various aspects of daily life. (“无手机焦虑症”的主要原因之一是对智能手机在日常生活中的各个方面过度依赖。) ”可知,过度依赖智能手机是导致该问题的原因。A选项“The over-reliance on smartphones.(过度依赖智能手机。)”
根据文章最后一段首句 “To overcome nomophobia, experts suggest gradually reducing phone usage. (为了克服“无手机焦虑症”,专家建议逐渐减少手机使用。)”可知,克服该问题的方法是循序渐进地减少使用。B选项“By reducing phone usage gradually.(通过逐步减少手机使用。)”符合题意。

Do you often believe you’ve mastered a key point the moment it “clicks” in your mind? Many of us naturally think that learning is done once a formula makes sense or a text becomes clear. But real learning is far less quick and much harder than that.
The first time you meet new material, you are not learning — you are just recognizing. You map unfamiliar material, notice basic patterns and get a general idea of what it is about. This stage feels productive, but it is just an introduction, not mastery.
The second pass brings you familiarity. Things that once confused you seem less difficult now. You can follow the material and know what comes next. But this familiarity can be misleading: It gives you the wrong feeling of understanding without real depth.
When you go over the material the third time, things start to change. You begin to notice gaps in your knowledge, and find your past understanding is not sound. Passive learning turns into active questioning at this point.
The fourth pass is where real learning starts. You no longer just focus on what the material says. You start to think about why it says so, how it works and where you can apply it. You connect ideas, retell knowledge in your own words, and test it in new situations. Now knowledge becomes flexible, not something you only memorize but something you can use.
Most people stop too early, and modern fast learning also makes repetition (重复) seem unhelpful. But repetition is improvement, not wasted effort. Learning is a spiral (螺旋式上升过程) rather than a straight line—each time you revisit the same material, you discover something new, because you have grown, not because the material has changed.
12.What problem does the second pass of learning cause?
A.You get a wrong feeling of deep understanding.
B.You will forget the material quickly.
C.You start to question your knowledge.
D.You lose interest in the material.
13.What will you get in the fourth pass of learning?
A.The ability to know what comes next. B.A general idea of the learning material.
C.The ability to use the knowledge flexibly. D.A realization of your knowledge gaps.
14.Which of the following might the author agree with about learning?
A.Most people can reach the fourth pass easily.
B.Fast learning helps develop true experts.
C.Learning is a straight line from simple to difficult.
D.Repetition makes a contribution to deep understanding.
15.What is the best title for the text?
A.The Trouble with Familiarity B.Real Learning Starts on the Fourth Pass
C.Reviewing Lessons Needs Good Methods D.The Importance of Learning New Knowledge
【答案】12.A 13.C 14.D 15.B
根据文章第三段“But this familiarity can be misleading: It gives you the wrong feeling of understanding without real depth. (但这种熟悉感可能会产生误导:它给你一种没有真正深度的错误理解感。)”可知,第二遍学习带来的熟悉感会让人产生一种虚假的、缺乏深度的理解感,即“错误的深度理解感觉”。
13.细节理解题。根据文章第五段“You connect ideas, retell knowledge in your own words, and test it in new situations. Now knowledge becomes flexible, not something you only memorize but something you can use. (你将想法联系起来,用自己的话重述知识,并在新的情境中检验它。现在知识变得灵活了,不再是你仅仅记住的东西,而是你能使用的东西。)”可知,在第四遍学习中,你将获得灵活运用知识的能力。
14.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“But repetition is improvement, not wasted effort. Learning is a spiral (螺旋式上升过程) rather than a straight line—each time you revisit the same material, you discover something new, because you have grown, not because the material has changed.

How to Be a Mountain Climber
Standing on a high mountain peak can be one of the most rewarding experiences on Earth. But reaching one requires much more than determination. It demands physical fitness, proper gear (装备) and respect for nature’s power. 16
Before attempting a mountain climb, you need to get your body ready. 17 Long-distance hiking strengthens your legs and builds endurance. Regular running prepares your heart and lungs for long climbs. Start with low-altitude (低海拔的) day hikes and gradually increase the distance and altitude.
Proper boots and clothing are also essential for safe climbing. Tough, waterproof mountain boots protect your feet from sharp rocks and keep them dry in wet conditions. 18 In addition, dress in layers made of wool or other insulating (保温的) materials rather than cotton, which stays wet and can leave you cold.
19 Conditions in the mountains can change rapidly. Bright sunshine may give way to heavy rain, thick fog or heavy snow within hours. Check local weather forecasts before departure and prepare a backup plan in case conditions worsen.
Beginners must also watch for altitude sickness. At high altitudes, thinner air can cause headaches or tiredness. 20 Never climb too quickly. Move slowly and rest frequently as you gain altitude. Descend immediately if the symptoms become severe.
Mountain climbing rewards patience and careful planning. Reaching the summit is exciting, but returning safely is the real goal.
A.Break them in on short walks before a major climb.
B.The safest approach is to give your body time to adjust.
C.Sound judgment about the weather is equally important.
D.Physical training is the foundation of safe mountain climbing.
E.This means mountain climbing is mainly a test of physical strength.
F.Suitable clothing can reduce the need to plan carefully for bad weather.
G.Therefore, climbers should never set out without thorough preparation.
【答案】16.G 17.D 18.A 19.C 20.B
根据上文“But reaching one requires much more than determination. It demands physical fitness, proper gear (装备) and respect for nature’s power.(但登顶仅靠决心远远不够。它还需要身体素质、合适的装备以及对自然力量的敬畏)”可推知,登山要求高、风险大,所以出发前必须有充分准备。G项“Therefore, climbers should never set out without thorough preparation.(因此,登山者绝不能在没有充分准备的情况下出发)”中的Therefore承接上文并引出下文各方面的准备。
17.根据上文“Before attempting a mountain climb, you need to get your body ready.(在尝试登山之前,你需要让身体做好准备)”可推知,本段围绕身体训练展开。D项“Physical training is the foundation of safe mountain climbing.(体能训练是安全登山的基础)”紧扣段首句,统领下文“Long-distance hiking strengthens your legs and builds endurance. Regular running prepares your heart and lungs for long climbs. Start with low-altitude (低海拔的) day hikes and gradually increase the distance and altitude.(长距离徒步可以增强腿部力量、提高耐力。定期跑步能为长时间爬坡做好心脏和肺部的准备。从低海拔日间徒步开始,逐步增加距离和海拔)”的具体训练内容,故选D。
18.根据上文“Tough, waterproof mountain boots protect your feet from sharp rocks and keep them dry in wet conditions.(结实防水的登山靴能保护双脚不被尖锐岩石划伤,并在潮湿环境中保持干燥)”可推知,接下来应继续说明与新登山靴相关的事项。A项“Break them in on short walks before a major climb.(在重大攀登之前,先短途步行磨合它们)”中的them指代空前的mountain boots,且“在正式登山前先磨合新靴子”符合生活常识和逻辑。
19.根据下文“Check local weather forecasts before departure and prepare a backup plan in case conditions worsen.(出发前查看当地天气预报,并准备好备用计划以防天气恶化)”可推知,本段强调对天气的判断。C项“Sound judgment about the weather is equally important.(对天气做出明智的判断同样重要)”中Sound judgment about the weather与本段内容呼应,且equally important承接上文提到的训练与装备。
20.根据上文“At high altitudes, thinner air can cause headaches or tiredness.(在高海拔地区,稀薄的空气会引起头痛或疲劳)”及下文“Never climb too quickly. Move slowly and rest frequently as you gain altitude. Descend immediately if the symptoms become severe.(不要爬得太快。随着海拔升高,应缓慢移动并频繁休息。如果症状加重,请立即下降)”可推知,上文谈到高原反应的症状,下文给出应对办法。B项“The safest approach is to give your body time to adjust.(最安全的方法是让身体有时间适应)”与下文“慢慢爬、多休息”的具体做法衔接自然。

C
D
