I was at school, getting ready for another day of Grade 9. Suddenly someone shouted, “Today at 1:10 there will be auditions (试演) for a musical show.”
My friends all jumped up in excitement and asked me, “Will you go, Rasleen?” Without much thought, I agreed. Even though musical shows weren’t really my thing, I wanted to be with my friends.
At 1:10 p.m., there was a line outside the audition room. Standing in the line, I suddenly felt a little nervous. What if I wasn’t any good? I was taking a risk.
Soon it was my turn. I said some lines from the musical show called Musicville and sang a bit. The teachers smiled at me and asked what kind of role I wanted to play. I felt like I had a chance, so I said, “A big role.”
A week later, the list came out. I got the main role, Melody! I was really happy, but also realized how much work it would be. I was in almost all of the 13 scenes in the show and I had to memorize all my lines before the practice.
Then in the following days, I stayed after school to practice. I ate snacks with the other performers. And I made new friends. Two months later, we were all ready for the performance. We got to perform in front of our schoolmates, teachers and parents. When I saw their smiles, I felt very confident.
That confidence stayed with me and made me feel braver. I felt like I could try more things. So I joined a basketball team, I took part in other sports like soccer and handball, and I even joined a dance group. I also started helping out in class and in the library. I became more and more active. I realized that by trying something new, I can have fun—even if it means stepping out of my comfort zone.

No one wants to go on a fun trip but end up spending the whole time running to the bathroom! While bad seafood might cause a stomachache, the trip itself can also upset your stomach.
Your stomach is full of tiny helpers that work to digest (消化) your food. But when you travel, things change. Sitting for too long, changing time zones (时区), and not sleeping on time can all make your stomach feel uncomfortable.
For one thing, sitting on a plane or in a car for hours can squeeze your stomach. This slows down how food moves, and your stomach may feel uncomfortable. Also, your body has a “daily clock” that helps it know when to eat, sleep, and even poop (排便) But when you travel far, this clock gets mixed up. You might not go to the bathroom like you normally do. Sleep matters, too. If you don’t get enough sleep, your stomach can become upset. You may even feel like eating a lot of sweet snacks, which can make things worse.
The good news? You can stop stomach troubles before they start! Try standing up and stretching (伸展) every hour on the plane or during long car rides. If you’re flying across time zones, begin changing your bedtime a few days early to help your body get used to the new time. And before your trip, be sure to sleep well every night. A rested body is a happy body, and that means a happy stomach, too.
So remember: move, sleep, and plan early. That way, your trip can be full of fun, not bathroom runs!
11. According to Paragraph 2, what can upset your stomach when you travel?
①Changing time zones.
②Sitting for a long time.
③Drinking too little water.
④Sleeping at different times than usual.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①③④

A. They may want to eat sweet snacks.
B. Their ability to digest food may improve.
C. Their body temperature might rise a little.
D. They might not notice time zone changes.
14. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The best foods to eat while traveling.
B. Different kinds of stomach problems.
C. The causes of an upset stomach during travel.
D. Ways to help your stomach feel better when traveling.
15. What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A. To show how digestion works.
B. To warn people not to travel too often.
C. To describe how food can make the stomach feel bad.
D. To explain stomach problems during trips and give advice.

例文
How I’ve Changed!
In the past few years, I’ve changed a lot both physically and mentally.
I used to be short and quiet with short hair. Now I am taller and more outgoing. I also took up reading instead of playing computer games all day. The most important change is that I no longer fear speaking in public. I was too shy to share my ideas before. With my English teacher’s encouragement, I practiced speaking again and again. Last term, I even gave a speech in front of the whole class.
This change teaches me that courage comes from practice. As long as we keep trying, we can beat our fears and become better versions of ourselves.
