Some research has suggested that higher air temperatures may be the cause. However, two new studies show that ocean warming played a bigger role in this dramatic change. As part of global ocean circulation (全球海洋环流), warm saltwater moves southward from the tropics and circles Antarctica 200 metres below the surface. But temperature and saltiness records of the past 20 years suggest that this warm deep saltwater has been rising towards the surface, where it can melt (融化) sea ice.
Antarctica is encircled by a belt of strong winds and storms. Climate change has pushed this storm belt southward, bringing more rain and snow into the sea ice area, according to a study by Earle Wilson and other researchers at Stanford University. The rain and snow create a layer (层) of fresh surface water that better protects the bottom of the sea ice from warm deep saltwater, allowing it to grow to its 2014 record high. But the same southward-moving storm belt also brings stronger winds. These winds blow surface water and ice forward. As this happens, warm deep saltwater rises up to fill the empty space.
Between 2014 and 2016, this wind-driven rising began to get the upper hand against the protective layer of increased rain and snow, and sea ice began to melt away. When the researchers input the recorded ocean data (数据) into a computer model, it projected that sea ice would grow and then become smaller, as it did in the real world.
The researchers plan to study and model other things, which also likely play roles throughout Antarctica. Examples include changes in sea ice movement and increases in ocean mixing resulting from more storms. By studying the ocean data, they hope to build a model to project changes in Antarctic sea ice in the years to come.
61.Which of the following best shows the Antarctic sea ice changes around 2015?
A. B. C. D.
62.In which order are the following events discussed in Paragraph 2?
①Warm deep saltwater rises to the surface. ②A layer of fresh surface water is created.
③Surface water and ice are blown forward. ④More rain and snow are brought into the sea ice area.
A.②④①③ B.②④③① C.④②①③ D.④②③①
63.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Higher air temperatures are the main reason for Antarctic sea ice change.
B.The warm deep saltwater flows northward from Antarctica to the tropics.
C.The computer model agreed with the real changes of Antarctic sea ice.
D.Scientists have finished studying all factors influencing Antarctic sea ice.
64.What will the researchers do next according to the last paragraph?
A.Stop collecting ocean data around Antarctica.
B.Build a model to predict future Antarctic sea ice changes.
C.Prevent storms from moving southward around Antarctica.
D.Find ways to stop warm saltwater from melting sea ice.
65.Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A.Where is Antarctic sea ice loss taking us?
B.Is this the cause of Antarctic sea ice loss?
C.Will a new model explain Antarctic sea ice melting?
D.How does fresh surface water protect Antarctic sea ice?
【答案】61.A 62.D 63.C 64.B 65.B
根据文章第二段“allowing it to grow to its 2014 record high”和第三段“Between 2014 and 2016, this wind-driven rising began to get the upper hand against the protective layer of increased rain and snow, and sea ice began to melt away”可推知,2015年前后南极海冰先增长至2014年的峰值,之后逐渐减少,与纵轴为海冰大小、横轴为时间的先升后降曲线相符。
62.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“bringing more rain and snow into the sea ice area”“The rain and snow create a layer of fresh surface water”“These winds blow surface water and ice forward”“warm deep saltwater rises up to fill the empty space”可推知,事件的发生顺序为:更多雨雪被带入海冰区域→形成表层淡水层→表层水和冰被吹走→暖深层咸水上升至表层,即顺序为④②③①。
63.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“When the researchers input the recorded ocean data into a computer model, it projected that sea ice would grow and then become smaller, as it did in the real world”可推知,计算机模型预测的海冰变化情况与实际变化一致。
64.细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“By studying the ocean data, they hope to build a model to project changes in Antarctic sea ice in the years to come”可推知,研究人员接下来会建立模型,预测未来南极海冰的变化。
65.最佳标题题。通读全文可知,文章核心是探讨南极海冰减少的原因,介绍新研究发现的相关影响因素,“Is this the cause of Antarctic sea ice loss?”紧扣文章核心探讨的问题,适合作为全文标题。

Chinese ancient wisdom puts the year into 24 solar terms (节气). Cold Dew (寒露) is the 17th solar term of the year. It starts this year on Oct. 8 and ends on Oct. 23.
At this time, the weather gets colder in most parts of China. The dew is greater and colder. That’s why this time is called Cold Dew. There will be less rain, but there will be some fog.
Good things come along at this time, too. Autumn crops (农作物) will be ripe (成熟). It’s also a good time for fishing. That’s because it’s colder in water during the cold dew time. Fish like to swim in shallow water where it is warmer.
Hiking is another popular activity during this time. North China takes on a beautiful look of late autumn with white clouds, red leaves, and early frost (霜). Chongyang Festival, also known as the Double Ninth Festival, often falls around cold dew. It is the ninth day of the ninth month in the Chinese calendar. On this day, people often climb hills and wear cornels (茱萸).
Food during Cold Dew
●Pomegranates (石榴)
Pomegranates are ripe during cold dew. Chinese people think pomegranates mean many children and many good wishes. They also taste good, have a nice color, and are healthy.
●Hawthorns (山楂)
There is a saying that goes “It is time to harvest hawthorn during cold dew.” For a long time, people have used hawthorns in herbal medicine (草药). They think it’s good for blood flow and heart health.
● Chrysanthemum wine (菊花酒)
Chrysanthemum is the seasonal flower of cold dew. Autumn is too dry, so people in many parts of China drink the chrysanthemum wine. This is also a tradition of the Double Ninth Festival.
66.How long does Cold Dew last this year?
A.8 days. B.16 days. C.23 days. D.24 days.
67.Why is it called Cold Dew?
A.Because the autumn crops are ripe.
B.Because there will be more rain and some fog in autumn.
C.Because the weather gets colder, the dew is greater and colder.
D.Because there are white clouds and red leaves in North China
68.Which of the following activities do people usually do during Cold Dew?
①swimming ②fishing ③flying kites ④hiking
A.①② B.① C.②④ D.②③
69.According to the passage, which of the following statements is Not True?
A.Pomegranates stand for many children and many good wishes.
B.Using Hawthorns in medicine is good for blood flow and heart health.
C.People usually drink chrysanthemum wine during the Double Ninth Festival.
D.People drink chrysanthemum wine to get warm in autumn.
70.In which part of a magazine can you read this passage?
A.Culture. B.Science. C.Technology. D.Education.

Many people wonder whether it is better to let hair dry naturally or use a blow-dryer (吹风机). A recent study gives an idea.
Some people think air-drying is the safest way, but the study shows that leaving hair wet for too long is also harmful. When hair is wet, it takes in water and becomes soft and weak. If it stays wet for two to three hours, the outer part of hair can slowly weaken. This may make hair easy to break. Hair may also lose its shine and look dull (无光泽的). This kind of harm can be greater than that from low-heat blow-drying.
Wet hair can also affect the scalp (头皮). A wet scalp can help germs grow. This may cause problems like itching or dandruff (痒或头皮屑). In cold weather, a wet head can also make people feel uncomfortable. It may even lead to headaches or colds.
▲ Problems usually happen when people use very high heat or keep it too close to hair. If people use it in the right way, blow-drying can be safer than air-drying.
Using low or medium heat is a good choice. People should keep the blow-dryer 15 to 20 cm away from hair and move it all the time. It is better to stop when the hair is about 80 percent dry.
A better way to protect hair is to press hair gently with a towel (毛巾) first. Then dry the scalp with a blow-dryer and let the ends of hair dry on their own. By following this simple routine, people can keep their hair clean, healthy, and strong.
71.What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Using a blow-dryer. B.Washing hair too often.
C.Making hair become soft. D.Keeping hair wet for a long time.
72.What’s Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.Harm of a wet scalp. B.Germs on a wet head.
C.Ways to solve scalp problems. D.Health risks of cold weather on hair.
73.Which can be the best for “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 4?
A.Low-heat blow-drying is popular among people.
B.Many people refuse to use blow-dryers at home.
C.As a result, people think blow-dryers are useless.
D.In fact, a blow-dryer itself is not always bad for hair.
74.What’s the structure of the text?
(①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2, …)
A. B. C. D.
75.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To describe problems with washing hair.
B.To give advice on how to dry hair properly.
C.To introduce different kinds of hair products.
D.To explain how to take care of hair every day.
【答案】71.D 72.A 73.D 74.B 75.B
【导语】本文就如何正确地弄干头发,通过分析、对比自然晾干和使用吹风机,给出了正确弄干头发的建议。
【详解】71.词句猜测题。第2段“If it stays wet for two to three hours, the outer part of hair can slowly weaken.”
第4段“Problems usually happen when people use very high heat or keep it too close to hair.”

Dear Cindy,
How are you? I had a great time last Monday. It was a traditional Chinese festival 76 (call) Dragon Boat Festival.
This festival is in memory of Qu Yuan, one of the 77 (great) Chinese poets. He killed himself by 78 (jump) into the Miluo River on May 5th of the lunar calendar, 278BC. People there rowed the boats 79 (save) him. But it was too late. They were very sad and then 80 (throw) rice into the river to feed the fishes so that they would stay away from his body.
From then on, every year on this day, people enjoy 81 (make) zongzi which is made 82 rice with meat, eggs and so on. We 83 (use) to eat it only once a year, but now we regard it as our daily food. We can have it any time we like.
Have you ever 84 (watch) the dragon boat race on TV? It is another important part of this festival. Several teams row their dragon-shaped boats as 85 (fast) as they can. The first team to reach the finishing line wins.
If you have a plan to visit China next year, would you like to spend this festival with us?
Best wishes!
Yours,
Shen

As we look back at the past and ahead to the future, the meaning of a city has changed. Today, cities around the world are growing and changing quickly. Modern cities are no longer just places for work and housing. 86

What’s more, Xiong’an works with the help of computers and the Internet. 88 Computers help with traffic, public services and safety. Public places are also well planned when the city is being built. 89 The city now has many schools, centers for the elderly and other local centers.
Xiong’an is still being built, but it has shown us what a future city can be like. Its green parks and smart services work together to make life easier and happier. 90 Such ideas can also offer useful experience for city building around the world.

Do you know what is required for a seed to germinate (发芽)? Let’s do an experiment to see how water, warmth and light influence the way a seed germinates.
★Materials
①dried beans ②6 clear ziplock bags ③paper towels
★Steps
Step 1: Put a few beans into three ziplock bags and mark them “sunny”, “dark”, and “cold”. These will be your dry bags of beans.
Step 2: Moisten (浸湿) three paper towels, fold each wet paper towel in half and put some beans inside the folded wet paper towels.
Step 3: Take three more ziplock bags and mark them “sunny”, “dark”, and “cold”. Place each wet paper towel with its beans into a ziplock bag. These will be your wet bags of beans.
Step 4: Place one wet bag and one dry bag marked “sunny” by a sunny window.
Step 5: Place one wet bag and one dry bag marked “dark” in a warm and dark place, such as a closet (壁橱).
Step 6: Place one wet bag and one dry bag marked “cold” in the fridge.
Remember:
Check the bags once a day, and add water to the wet bags if the paper towels start to dry out.

Dear Cindy,
How are you?
Yours,
Shen

What makes a good city? In many languages, words for “city” share a similar beginning. Cities are an important part of human culture. They welcome different people and keep changing. As we look back at the past and ahead to the future, the meaning of a city has changed. Today, cities around the world are growing and changing quickly. Modern cities are no longer just places for work and housing. 86
In North China, a new city, Xiong’an, is rising to make this dream come true. 87 Instead of letting buildings be built everywhere, it follows the rule of “planting trees before building the city” from the start. Large forests and wetland parks are built to improve the local environment.
A.New challenges come with more elders.
B.To achieve this, it puts the environment first.
C.They also focus more on daily needs and happiness.
D.And they make sure different groups share public services.
E.It shows that a good city balances nature, technology and public needs.
