B School days are supposed to be the best days of your life and part of that experience usually involves some unforgettable physical activities. I asked some people to give me their memories of what happened to them on the sports field and beyond, and this is what they told me. Cup winners When I was about ten, the football team from our year unexplainably made it to the cup final of the local schools’ league. I say unexplainably because I only remember us losing nearly every match we played. Anyway, in the final I set up the winning goal, a brilliant cross to my mate David who passed the ball in just before the final whistle. I still have a photograph of the team holding the cup. Forest hike I remember having to lead a group of eight boys on a school expedition for the best part of two days when I was a teenager. Even though we got lost at one point, I managed to keep them all together and get them from one end of a large forest to the other and back by sheer (纯粹的) force of will. I was chosen to be the leader, I think because I was the only one who knew how to read a map! When we arrived back at the campsite, we found out that all the other groups had cheated and hitched (搭便车) most of the way instead… I felt a bit stupid, but also rather proud of myself at the same time for having done it properly. Learning to swim, learning to drown I learned to swim comparatively late, I suppose. I was maybe nine years old but my brother had a painful experience that nearly put him off for life. We lived in the USA for a while and had access to a university pool where the coaches had trained the American Olympic team. In those days, though, their idea of teaching kids how to swim was to tie a can to their ankles with a bit of string, throw them in the deep end, and shout “Swim!”. I am surprised my brother survived at all. He could only have been about six at the time. 4.The passage mainly talks about ________. A.tips on taking part in outdoor activities B.how people consider physical activities C.why people love outdoor activities D.people’s experiences of physical activities 5.What did the first person do in the school’s cup final? A.He scored the winning goal. B.He provided the pass for the final goal. C.He blew the whistle at eh end of the game. D.He lost every game in the season. 6.The underlined word “expedition” in the third paragraph has the same meaning to “________”. A.match B.deal C.trip D.research 7.It can be learned that when the third person was young ________. A.he learned swimming from the same coach as his elder brother B.the swimming coach’s teaching method was difficult C.his family lived near a university pool for about ten years D.the American Olympic team had no swimming pool of its own C Teenagers who spend more time on afterschool activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more mentally (心理上) healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine. The new study was carried out by researchers from the University of British Columbia. The study used information collected from more than 28,000 seventhgrade Canadian students between 2014 and 2018. The students first answered questions about their usage of screen time after school, including how much time they spent watching TV, Netflix or something else. Then, students reported how many days they had taken part in afterschool activities such as sports or arts programmes. After that, researchers asked students to describe their state of mind. For example, when given a statement such as “I start most days thinking that I will have a good day”, they could choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale (等级). Some of the results were expected, researchers said in the study.Students with no afterschool activities usually had high levels of screen time, for example. And they expected girls would score higher on negative indicators (消极指标) of mental health, as earlier research had found that they tended to have higher levels of anxiety compared to boys. What was noteworthy, researchers say, is that even among students who took part in afterschool activities, 46% still went beyond the recommended screen time of two hours. At the same time, 67% of students who didn’t take part in afterschool activities also had more than two hours of screen time. Together, this suggests long screen time among teenagers generally. “The findings suggest that afterschool activities are valuable for the happy growing of teenagers,” the study said.“While past studies have proved the importance of afterschool activities for social and academic development, the present study shows their importance for good mental health results.” 8.Which of the following came last when students took part in the new study? A.Reporting their mental states. B.Talking about their lifestyles. C.Introducing their afterschool activities. D.Answering questions about screen time use. 9.What do the researchers find about teenage girls? A.They often have higher levels of satisfaction. B.Few of them take part in afterschool activities. C.Anxiety has become a serious problem among them. D.Too much screen time may be more harmful to them. 10.What does the author want to show by using the numbers in Paragraph 4? A.Earlier findings about screen time are wrong. B.No afterschool activities mean no screen time. C.Long screen time is common among teenagers. D.Screens attract teenagers more than afterschool activities do. 11.Why are afterschool activities so important according to the new study? A.They are good for teenagers’ physical health. B.They help to improve teenagers’ mental health. C.They encourage teenagers’ social development. D.They allow teenagers to become better learners. D Novelists have different ways of describing laughter. Characters can wear a big smile, be all smiles, crack a smile, grin from ear to ear, break into a smile and so on. The richness of language may suggest that laughter has limitless diversity. However, it may be wrong. A new study led by Dr. Reza Kamiloglu, provides evidence that there are just two main types of laughter: one generated when people find something funny and one that can be caused only through the physical act of tickling (挠痒痒). Dr Kamiloglu instructed assistants to collect 887 videos that were then classified, ranging from tickle attacks to laughing for other factors. About 70% of these videos were used to train a machine-learning algorithm (算法) to classify laughter by reasons. The algorithm was then asked to classify the remaining 30% and correctly identified laughter produced by tickling 62.5% of the time. All other forms of laughter, whether they came from viewing stand-up comedy or practical jokes, were difficult to tell apart. This suggested there was something unique about the tickling laughter. When Dr Kamiloglu ran the experiment again, asking human observers to classify the laughter, a similar result showed: Human observers correctly identified tickling laughter 61.2% of the time. The findings made scientists reflect on the roots of laughter. After all, humans are not the only animals that can laugh and tickle. This points to the fact that laughter from tickling developed over 10 million years ago. This early sort of laughter probably developed to help primates (灵长目动物) build friendly relations. As for other forms of laughter, they probably developed millions of years after tickling, when human brain became complex enough to understand deeper meanings. 12.What does the underlined word ‌“it” in paragraph 1 refer to? A.The richness of human language. B.The approach to describing laughter. C.The idea of countless kinds of laughter. D.The complexity of classifying laughter. 13.What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A.The contents of the videos. B.The process of the research. C.The methods of generating laughter. D.The working principle of the algorithm. 14.What can we learn from the research findings? A.Tickling laughter developed much later than others. B.Tickling laughter is unique to humans. C.Primates use tickling to build pleasant relationships. D.Humans’ laughter is far more complex than primates’. 15.What might be the best title for the text? A.The Origin of Laughter: All Starts from Tickling. B.Laughter in Animals: How do Primates Build Relations? C.The Language of Laughter: How do Writers Describe Joy? D.Types of Laughter: Humans Laugh in Two Different Ways 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The Feynman Technique (费曼学习法) is a powerful method that you can use to learn anything faster because it forces you to actively think about the problem instead of passively reading or listening to someone else talk about it.
