My first day in high school will never be forgotten. When I got to the classroom in the morning, I saw that Mr. Brown had already put our names on our tables. After walking a few steps, I saw my name on the table right in the middle of the classroom. As I walked up to my table, my heart sang. “It would be great to sit there. I could see everything easily,” I thought to myself.
A while later, the other students entered one by one and took their own seats. And then Mr. Brown started talking. He showed us his classroom rules and tried to explain them. All of a sudden, a student called Tony started singing loudly. All the while he moved his body to the music. His desk mate Josh couldn’t understand why he was doing these things. Then he stood up and talked to Mr. Brown, “I don’t want to sit with this strange guy. Can I swap seats with someone else in this room, please?”
Mr. Brown didn’t answer his question directly. He stopped what he was doing and turned on his computer. Then he showed us some pictures about autistic (患自闭症的) kids. He explained that autistic kids have little self-control. They seem to do things that are beyond everyone else’s understanding. However, they can do many other great things, in the field of art or music for example. Then he told us that Tony was not good at maths, but loved songs. “He can sing thousands of songs. What’s more surprising is that he can remember all the words without any mistakes.” In the end, Mr. Brown added that although autistic kids were different, they should be loved.
Since that first day in high school, I became Mr. Brown’s admirer (崇拜者). I was pretty sure Mr. Brown would get all of us on the right track.
4. How did the author feel when seeing his table?
A. Annoyed. B. Confused. C. Excited. D. Disappointed.
5. What did Mr. Brown do in the class first?

7. What does the author think of Mr. Brown?
A. He is off the right track. B. He is admired by all of us.
C. He is a great teacher. D. He is too different to be loved.

A crude, low-tech animation (动画片) about a cow and a skylark (云雀) has become a sleeper hit at China’s box office, sitting alongside blockbusters such as The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinema profit rankings. Niu Lai, which translates to The Cow is Coming, is an 86-minute budget animation about a newborn calf and a skylark whose relationship develops over the course of an abstract dream sequence (片段).
Released on 5 August, the film reportedly made just 7,700 yuan (£842) in its first 10 days of screenings, with fewer than 300 people nationwide buying a ticket. It did not have any trailer (预告片), pre-release publicity or even advertisement. But discussion online about how bad the film was turned it into a meme, which drove hordes of film fans to the cinema. It has now made more than 14.9 million yuan, according to the movie tracking site Mao Yan, making it one of the top-performing films of the year.
Niu Lai’s success appears to stem less from its merits and more from its “so bad it’s good” energy. Made by just two people over five years, it is the opposite of the bedazzling animations that have attracted huge crowds in China in recent years, such as Ne Zha 2 and Ba Xian. The film’s writers, directors, voice actors and producers are Xin Yumeng and Sun Lifang, who are reported to be a mother and son team.
Some film fans have praised the shoddy animation as a welcome tonic in the age of artificial intelligence. One user wrote on the film review website Douban: “In an era where AI is so popular, did the creative team choose a handcrafted, somewhat poor visual style in order to convey a sense of ‘returning to one’s true self?’”
One film industry professional, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to speak to the media, said Niu Lai was unique because it was “bad in every aspect imaginable, including the story, special effects and almost every element that a movie is expected to have”. “Ironically, this is exactly what attracted audience curiosity,” he said.
8. What can we learn about the film Niu Lai?
A. It gained great popularity right after its release.
B. It received no marketing work before its showing.
C. It earned 14.9 million yuan within its first ten days.
D. It was widely praised by audiences when it was first screened.
9. What does the underlined word “bedazzling” most probably mean?
A. awkward B. amazing C. confusing D. strategic
10. What can we infer from the Douban user’s comment?
A. The user guesses the poor style may carry special creative purposes.
B. The user believes AI should be widely used in animation creation.
C. The user thinks the film’s poor quality is completely unacceptable.
D. The user suggests more hand‑made films should be produced immediately.
11. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Chinese audiences prefer “so‑bad‑it‑is‑good” movies.
B. AI‑produced animations are losing popularity among Chinese audiences.
C. Niu Lai sets a good example for low‑budget film creation.
D. A poorly‑made animation became an unexpected box‑office success.
D
NASA has broken its own record by transmitting(传输) ultra-clear video over a distance of 31 million kilometres from deep space. The video wasn’t of distant heavenly bodies or spacecraft, but of a cat called Taters running after the light from a laser (激光) pointer.
The 15 seconds of the video was transmitted from NASA’s Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) experiment, which is being conducted on the spacecraft named Psyche that was launched in October. The DSOC experiment will send high-speed test data to the Earth during a two-year run, and is part of NASA’s long-term plan to use lasers rather than radios to transmit information from space.
The video of Taters was shot and uploaded to the spacecraft before launch. Abhijit Biswas at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) says that Taters — a JPL employee’s pet — was chosen for the first transmission over that distance because one of the first television test broadcasts also featured a cat — the cartoon Felix the Cat. The film also shows Psyche’s orbital path and technical information about the laser and its data transmission rate.
The video took 101 seconds to travel from the spacecraft to the Earth. The message was received by equipment at the Hale Telescope at Palomar, before being transmitted over the internet to JPL in southern California, where the video was played in real time. That data rate makes DSOC faster than most domestic broadband connections.
“DSOC is really a proof that this can be done,” says Biswas. He says longer distances than the latest test should be possible in future. One issue is ensuring the laser light is precisely directed so it hits the receiving station. “It’s a very narrow beam (光束); at the distance that Psyche is right now, it is only a few hundred kilometres wide by the time it reaches the Earth,” says Biswas.
12. What aspect of the video transmission is discussed in paragraph 2?
A. Its whole procedure. B. Its working principle.
C. Its background information. D. Its future application.
13. What can be inferred about the video?
A. The video only shows a cat chasing the laser light.
B. The video featured a cat to honor early communication tests.
C. The video was shot 31 million kilometres away from the Earth.
D. The video message was transmitted by JPL in southern California.
14. What is Biswas’ attitude towards the future of deep space communication?
A. Optimistic. B. Unconcerned. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.
15. What is the main purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce the goal of NASA’s Psyche mission.
B. To predict the future of deep space laser transmission.
C. To compare the differences between laser and radio communication.
D. To report a landmark breakthrough in deep space laser communication.

We are taught to see “gossip (八卦)” as a bad habit. However, talking about other people is a natural and important part of our life. There are cases where gossip helps us make friends and build trust. ____16____ There is just a small difference between sharing useful news and saying something hurtful. To chat in a good way, we need to follow simple rules and learn “polite gossip”.
First, only talk about facts. We can only speak of words we actually heard and actions we really saw. If you start guessing others’ hidden ideas or invent small details to make the story more fun, you are not talking politely anymore. ____17____
Second, know what we cannot talk about. ____18____ Topics like classmates’ looks, family troubles or health problems should never come up in casual talks. If someone is having a hard time, they need our care, not gossip behind their backs.
Third, separate people from their mistakes. People may do silly or careless things, but that does not mean they are bad people. As the old saying goes, “Every man has his faults.” ____19____ We all make mistakes and have bad moments. When we talk about one thing, we should focus on the action itself instead of speaking badly of a person’s personality.
Finally, keep the golden rule: ____20____ This is the final test of our conscience (良知). If you and that person change places, will you think this talk is fair? Or will you feel sad? If we keep kind and fair hearts, we can share stories without hurting anyone.
A. Actually, not all gossip is the same.
B. Therefore, we must respect other people.
C. Real harm requires direct action rather than secret talks.
D. There are some personal things we should never discuss.
E. Listen carefully to what our friends tell us.
F. We should stick to what really happened, not what we imagine.
G. Don’t talk about others in ways you would hate others to talk about you.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My daughter, a smart and curious girl, had become a permanent fixture on our sofa after she got her smartphone. Whenever she was free, she would settle down on the sofa and watch short videos on her phone or listen to audiobooks like Harry Potter. I repeatedly tried to explain the necessity of deep reading, but she always had a ready excuse.
“Deep reading helps deep thinking and lets your imagination fly,”I remarked one day. “It will benefit your schoolwork, too.”
“But most of my classmates didn’t like reading big books, either,” she argued. “It’s not a big deal.”
When I suggested that novels offer unique ways to understand how people feel, she quickly countered that she could learn faster from social media. Even my offer to buy any book she wanted was met with a dismissive shrug (耸肩) and the reply,“Mama, welcome to your dream!”
I had to admit that the digital world held its own appeal, yet I still wanted to help her experience the pure magic of reading — those special moments when an author says exactly what you’ ve always felt but never knew how to express. But for a while, I had to face the reality; I could not pass on the joy of reading to her.
The negative effects of replacing deep reading with watching short videos became more and more obvious after she entered high school where the textbooks grew more challenging and her writing suffered the most. I realized that it was time for me to do something.
A perfect opportunity presented itself when I was granted a two-week summer holiday. On hearing the news, my daughter eagerly offered to be my “tour guide”. I agreed, on one condition: At each site we visited, she had to show me something interesting but accurate.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
At first, she thought it would be an easy job.

【答案】8. B 9. B 10. A 11.

【答案】12. C 13. B 14. A 15. D

【答案】One possible version
Dear Laura,
Knowing you’re interested in the Double Ninth Festival, I’m writing to share something worth acknowledging to you in detail.
Falling on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, the festival is also called Seniors’ Day. People celebrate it by climbing mountains, appreciating beautiful chrysanthemums and tasting special Chongyang cakes. More importantly, it’s a meaningful day for showing respect and care for the elderly. We usually visit the old, stay with them and express our sincere love, passing down the traditional virtue of honoring the aged in China.
I hope this introduction helps you know more about this lovely Chinese festival. Feel free to ask me if anything remains unclear.
Yours,
Li Hua

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
At first, she thought it would be an easy job.

The real change became obvious after we returned home.

【答案】At first, she thought it would be an easy job. At our first stop, she confidently recounted a popular video’s tale about a famous object. A quick check with a classic book I brought with me, however, revealed that it was just a hearsay story. The experience sparked a new curiosity. She started cross-checking information on reputable history websites and she even visited local bookstores in each new city we visited. I joined her in preparing our next tours and shared the interesting information I came across in my own reading.
The real change became obvious after we returned home. One evening, I found her curled up on the sofa, not with her phone, but completely absorbed in a book about a place we had visited. “Mama,” she said, looking up with excitement, “this author’s explanation makes so much sense. I finally understand what I read in the history textbook.” My daughter’s change also reminded me to spend more time with her, helping her relate what she has learned in textbooks to the real world.
