Notes
• Please understand this is a group program and while we will work to increase participants’ skill level, the days will be planned to meet the needs of the whole group. If you want activities made just for your child, or a child who is a strong climber, you may want to consider a private outing.

A mother of three has been collecting backpacks for ten years to give out to children in need. When she dropped off her middle daughter 10 years ago, Amanda McCall noticed three children who didn’t have backpacks because their parents couldn’t afford them. “I thought, ‘What could I do to make this better?’ That’s where I started,” said McCall. She then decided to start a backpack giveaway and gathered backpacks filled with school supplies.
The first year there were 75 backpacks and it was just for family and friends. As word started to spread about what she was doing, more people reached out, and each year the list got bigger. “With the rising cost of everything, the need is so great. Last year we had 552 bags and we had only 10 left when we were done. And that’s the first year that we didn’t completely run out,” said McCall. “I think this is our way of getting kids back to school at the best they can be.”
She follows the McLurg School Supply List, with items (物品) such as paper dividers, pencils, crayons, pens, erasers and other small donated supplies in the bags. “Everybody is just very thankful, and the kids are smiling from ear to ear. They’re so happy to have their new bags,” said McCall.
This year marked the 10th giveaway event, and McCall prepared just under 1,000 backpacks filled with supplies. She received strong support from the community, with people donating money and supplies to help out. She said anyone was welcome to show up with their children if they needed a backpack, but there was a limit (限制) of three backpacks per family so they could make sure all families received a bag.
“I started this to teach my children that not everyone is as lucky as we are. Now that they’re grown, I just want to show people that even in a world that isn’t the best, there is a little bit of hope, and that one person can make a difference,” said McCall.
4. What inspired McCall to start the giveaway event?
A. Her daughter’s needs at school. B. The rising cost of school supplies.
C. Support from the local community. D. The sight of children without backpacks.
5. Why did McCall mention the numbers in paragraph 2?
A. To show the event was not well organized.
B. To stress how great the need for backpacks was.
C. To prove that fewer people needed help last year.
D. To explain why she limited backpacks per family.
6. Which of the following best describes Amanda McCall?
A. Kind and outgoing. B. Caring and helpful.
C. Confident and responsible. D. Creative and independent.
7. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Mother’s 10-Year Mission B. A Special Family Activity
C. Helping Children Return to School D. Discovering the Joy of Sharing

A University of Melbourne student’s bright idea could change the way Australians living with a disability eat out.
EnAccess Maps, a new app developed by student Sabrina Leung, helps users find and review venues (场所) based on how easy they are to get around. Leung noticed that there wasn’t enough information for people who have trouble moving around. “One in five people have a disability, so it’s a pretty big need out there,” she said.
The app is designed to connect this community with venues ready to meet their needs. The platform (平台) allows users to set their needs for getting around, such as toilets they can use, movement space, parking, and step-free access (通道). “A restaurant might be easy to get into, but it could make you feel really awkward if you have to move all the chairs just to get to your table,” advisor Freya Elliott said.
While EnAccess Maps can be used across the world, the present focus is on Melbourne, with University of Melbourne students volunteering to map new places every month. “It helped me be more aware of the area around me and also more aware of how other people in a different situation interact (互动) with the same environment as I do,” volunteer Jiayi Tai said.
So far, more than 700 places have already been recorded, but the EnAccess Maps team is hoping more people jump online to review more, and that businesses come on board too. “Anyone can sign up for EnAccess Maps. It’s free,” team member Jacob Darkin said. “And you could be McDonald’s or you could be a Michelin star restaurant. It’s just about helping people understand how to get to your place.”
8. What can users do on EnAccess Maps?
A. Choose the safest way. B. Find easy-to-use places.
C. Share eating experiences. D. Book tables in restaurants.
9. What does Freya Elliott want to show in her words?
A. It is easy for the disabled to use the app.
B. Disabled people feel awkward everywhere.
C. Easy entry doesn’t mean good access inside.
D. Few restaurants are friendly to disabled people.
10. What are the volunteers doing with the app?
A. Adding new places to it. B. Interacting with other users.
C. Introducing it to students. D. Testing it in surrounding areas.
11. What does the app team hope?
A. They can give the app more uses. B. They can find long-term partners.
C. Top restaurants can trust their work. D. The public can be part of their effort.
D
As more people travel to destinations that may soon disappear because of climate change, experts and guides weigh in on how this practice could help protect these places — if done right.
Known as last-chance tourism, this “see-it-before-it’s-gone” practice is controversial. Research shows that the amount of fuel (燃料量) it takes to travel to these faraway destinations could speed up their very damage. But supporters say that, done responsibly, it can also inspire travellers to protect the very places they came to see.
As more people travel to see disappearing destinations like coral reefs (珊瑚礁), Robin Kundis Craig, a professor at the University of Kansas School of Law, warns that without education and careful limits, “millions of people are stepping on an already fragile (脆弱的) landscape that’s trying to deal with climate change”.
The negative effects of visitors travelling together to fragile ecosystems are well documented. As the seas warm and gas-powered boats bring more people to the Great Barrier Reef, the huge ecosystem recently experienced its worst environmental event, coral bleaching (白化), on record. Coral reefs in Indonesia and Hawaii have also been damaged by tourists, and seafloors can take years to return to normal after being damaged by the anchors (锚) of tourist boats. Venice has been suffering under the weight of over-tourism for ten years. And as more tourists now travel to Antarctica every year, they risk introducing invasive species (入侵物种) that harm fragile ecosystems.
In 2024, Craig published a paper showing that those who manage many “last-chance” destinations aren’t prepared for the changing feelings travellers often experience when they visit — from joy to sadness. Craig argues that guides and park managers should direct travellers’ feelings into action to help protect these sites.
Ashley Perrin is a guide with Aurora Expeditions. For Perrin, each trip is an opportunity to share — and protect — some of the places she loves. “People won’t protect what they don’t know,” she said. “We need people to go and see these environments in order to fall in love with them — in order to protect them.”
12. What does the underlined word “controversial” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Widely accepted. B. Quite unexpected.
C. Attracting attention. D. Causing disagreement.
13. How is paragraph 4 mainly developed?
A. By giving examples. B. By describing a process.
C. By making comparisons. D. By following space order.
14. What should last-chance tourism lead to according to Craig?
A. Deep admiration of nature. B. Memorable travel experiences.
C. Action to care for fragile ecosystems. D. Opportunities to educate younger people.
15. What is Perrin’s attitude towards last-chance tourism?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Curious. D. Unclear.

It was time for the art lesson. Madam Nadirah walked to the front of the classroom carrying a big box. The box had bottles of paint and paintbrushes sticking out of it. Adam smiled. He loved art time! They always worked in groups on their projects. Maybe this time he would get to work with one of his friends.
Madam Nadirah pointed to the first table and announced the group members. Adam stood up and moved to sit at the table, joining Ivan and Mya. He didn’t know anyone in the group, but he was good at making friends. He hoped this could be a fresh start.
Once everyone found their group, Madam Nadirah started to hand out the materials. “Your challenge is to use these materials to make art,” she said. She put three cups on each table. Adam moved closer to look inside their cups. One cup had nutshells (坚果壳) in it, another had wooden sticks, and the last one had colorful beads (珠子). Adam felt unsure. He didn’t know what to make with these things.
“You only have time to make one project,” Madam Nadirah said. “So work together to decide what you are going to make.” Loud chatter filled the room as the groups started planning their projects. In Adam’s group, different opinions soon appeared. Mya wanted to make a tree, while Ivan imagined building a house. As they tried to explain their ideas, their voices grew louder, and impatience gradually replaced (取代) their excitement.
Neither side was willing to back down, and the disagreement became increasingly serious. They even began fighting over the cups. Adam watched his group with growing concern (担心). He didn’t want their first project together to end in anger. But they were only allowed to make one project. They couldn’t make a tree and a house.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Then Adam had an idea.

【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是首段中的“A mother of three has been collecting backpacks for ten years to give out to children in need. (一位三个孩子的母亲十年来一直在收集书包,分发给有需要的孩子。)”以及尾段中的““I started this to teach my children that not everyone is as lucky as we are.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. A 11. D
【解析】

A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Curious. D. Unclear.
【答案】12. D 13. A 14. C 15. B

【12题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段中的“Known as last-chance tourism, this “see-it-before-it’s-gone” practice is controversial. Research shows that the amount of fuel (燃料量) it takes to travel to these faraway destinations could speed up their very damage. But supporters say that, done responsibly, it can also inspire travellers to protect the very places they came to see.(这种被称为末日旅游、在消失前一睹其风貌的旅行方式是controversial。研究表明,前往这些遥远目的地所消耗的燃料会加速它们的破坏。但支持者称,如果负责任地开展,它也能激励游客保护他们前来观赏的地方。)”可知,一部分人认为末日旅游会加速景点破坏,另一部分人认为它可以促进保护,这件事引发争议,由此可知,划线单词的意思为“有争议的”,与D项“引发不同意见”意义相近。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“The negative effects of visitors travelling together to fragile ecosystems are well documented. As the seas warm and gas-powered boats bring more people to the Great Barrier Reef, the huge ecosystem recently experienced its worst environmental event, coral bleaching (白化), on record. Venice has been suffering under the weight of over-tourism for ten years. And as more tourists now travel to Antarctica every year, they risk introducing invasive species (入侵物种) that harm fragile ecosystems.(游客一同前往脆弱生态系统所带来的负面影响已有充分记录。
根据第五段中的“Craig argues that guides and park managers should direct travellers’ feelings into action to help protect these sites.(克雷格认为导游和园区管理者应当引导游客的情绪转化为行动,来帮助保护这些地点。)”可知,Craig认为末日旅游应当促使人们采取行动,爱护脆弱的生态系统。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段中的“People won’t protect what they don’t know,” she said. “We need people to go and see these environments in order to fall in love with them — in order to protect them.(“人们不会保护自己所不了解的东西,”她说。“我们需要人们前去看见这些环境,从而爱上它们——从而保护它们。”)”可知,Perrin认为末日旅游能让人们了解并保护自然,她对此持积极态度。

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Then Adam had an idea.

【答案】
Then Adam had an idea. Maybe there was a way they could do both. “What if we make a house in a tree?” Hearing that, Mya and Ivan stopped fighting. To Adam’s relief, they both agreed to give his idea a try. After a brief discussion, Mya and Ivan began to look at the materials in a new way. With the plan finally in place, everyone reached for the materials. At first, each person focused on the part they cared about most, but as the project took shape, they began to help one another. The tension that once filled the table was replaced by quiet concentration and growing excitement.
By the end of the art lesson, Adam’s group stood back to admire their finished project. They felt proud of what they had created together. The tree house was tall, colorful, and full of small details that showed everyone’s effort. More importantly, it reminded them how cooperation could turn disagreement into something meaningful. Adam felt a warm sense of satisfaction as he looked at his group members. They had started as strangers with different ideas, but they ended the lesson as a team. As the bell rang, Adam hoped that the next group project would bring them together once again.
