Passage 1. 特斯拉“会飞的汽车”来了
Tesla shows new Roadster, 1 Musk says can perform airborne stunts. A long-awaited Tesla sports car made its public debut with dramatic airborne stunts on October 15, 2026. Tesla 2 (reveal) the updated Roadster at a SpaceX test facility in Texas. Elon Musk stated the redesigned vehicle combines extreme road speed with advanced aerial-mobility capabilities, 3 (turn) the long-held flying-car dream into a real-world demonstration.
No human driver operated the prototype. Instead, 4 Optimus robot occupied the driver’s seat. The car climbed a steep ramp, hung upside-down with an underbody suction system, flipped midair and landed with built-in cold-gas thrusters using compressed air. It leaped over parked Teslas, hovered 5 (brief) and hit 60 mph in just 0.81 seconds. Its top Rocket variant can reach that speed in under 0.59 seconds. “Success is not guaranteed. If it fails, we stay at a safe distance,” Musk told viewers. He invited spectators to prove the 6 (perform) was real rather than AI-made.
However, industry experts remain 7 (doubt). The car only completed short controlled hops instead of stable long-distance flight. 8 (power) by SpaceX technology, the Roadster has three versions, including an invite-only single-seat Rocket model.
First displayed in 2017, the model has suffered repeated delays, 9 production planned for 2028. Many challenges lie ahead. Regulators have not set clear traffic rules for road-drivable flying cars, leaving 10 (them) legal status uncertain.
Passage 2. 学生应学会竞争还是合作
With growing competition in the adult world, there is 1 tendency that even students are trained to push 2 (them) to stand out among their peers.
However, I disagree with this trend and insist that a cooperative classroom is more 3 (benefit) to students' development. That students are taught to compete 4 others will give rise to a series of problems. The most obvious one is that too much emphasis on competition will undermine group work. Indeed, those determined to outcompete their peers tend to focus more on their own benefits rather 5 on teamwork.
Another disadvantage of always trying to outstrip others is mental problems resulting from constant pressure. Research findings show that people 6 (concentrate) on competition share little with or care little about others. This will lead to increasing difficulty in making friends, 7 aggravates their psychological burden.
On the other hand, there are 8 (admitted) some advantages of trying to be outstanding. Being better than others gives one a sense of achievement, which in this case comes from the 9 (superior) over others. The awareness of competition could also serve as a positive factor in enhancing personal skills such as time management and communication. This is 10 students with such awareness tend to be more ambitious and more willing to improve their proficiency in personal skills. However, the trend of social and economic development makes it more necessary than ever for people to collaborate with each other to achieve greater success.
Overall, I think the disadvantages of competing outweigh the advantages, and given that the potential problems caused by a competitive classroom and the future necessity of collaboration, it is essential for students to focus more on teamwork.
Passage 3. 狗尾续貂
During the Western Jin Dynasty, Emperor Hui of Jin was a weak and ineffectual ruler, and the imperial court gradually fell 1 chaos. Eventually, Sima Lun, the Prince of Zhao, seized control of the court. He later staged a coup, forced Emperor Hui to abdicate, and took the throne for 2 (him).
Once he became emperor, Sima Lun went to great lengths to win the 3 (loyal) and support of his followers. He handed out titles, official positions, and generous rewards to those 4 supported him. Before long, so many people 5 (give) high-ranking positions that the imperial court ran out of sable tails -- the traditional ornaments used to decorate the hats of senior officials.
Sima Lun and his followers came up with 6 absurd solution: they started using dog tails instead. As a result, some officials appeared at court with sable tails 7 (decorate) their hats, 8 others had to settle for dog tails. The sight was so ridiculous 9 ordinary people began mocking the officials, saying, "There aren't enough sable tails, so dog tails have been used to make up the difference."
Today, the idiom is used 10 (figurative) to describe adding something inferior to something good, creating an awkward or mismatched continuation. It is also commonly used to describe a sequel that is noticeably inferior to the original.
