Posting photos of local plants may not seem'like a normal way to success as a social media influencer. But Kyle
Lybarger, bom and raised in Alabama, has found unexpected Interet fame by introducing his followers to the
overlooked world of southeastern plants.
In an interview,Lybarger credits his success to stubborness,to a positive energy he inherited from his late dad
and, largely,to not worrying about what others think."I was a deer hunter, forester,a man posting about flowers,"he
says."You have to really care the least about what people think of you to do that."
About a decade ago,Lybarger cleared a small area of land in a forest to grow plants whose fruits would attract
deep and wild turkeys. He even applicd some herbicide (and cut down the surrounding trees to let in more
light. The next summer,he found the additional sunlight brought a beautiful surprise:an amazing variety of wild
flowers. After he posted the flowers on Facebook,a local botanist and science teacher got in touch, confirming some
rare and vulnerable species, such as Alabama larkspur.Lybarger suddenly realized that the grassland he had killed
was ideal for attracting wildlife itself.
This experience inspired him to dive into a body of research indicating that historically the Southeast was home
to expansive grasslands as well as those wild flowers. It was then that Lybarger found his mission:to save the
remaining grasslands and flora.Together with a botanist from Auburn University,he appealed on all the major social
media platforms to forest owners and furmers to stop mowing and using herbicides. In 2023 he partnered
with an artist to design a T-shirt featuring the rare plants, hoping to raise public awareness and help pay for
conservation. The project ended up raising over $100,000 in less than a year, most of which went to his conservation
effons.
"My biggest contribution comes through education on social media, influencing people to grow the native plants
that best support declining pollinators(投粉昆虫)and other insects,"he says,,“One person,one yard,onc-tenth of an
acre can make a bigger difference than you think."

concemed that artificial intelligence(AD may affect their children's future job prospects. What's more,20 percent
admit they have no idea how to prepare for the coming changes.
Despite these worries, experts have not yet clearly explaincd what new skills young people will need to suceced
in an AI-driven world. However, there is a growing agreement about the importance of"emotional education."
"The more common machines become, the more we need to develop the'most human'qualities in the young
generation,"said Wu Rongjin,a primary school headmaster.Education experts believe school education should
transition from simply gaining knowledge to developing human traits like cmpathy, creativity, ethics, and teamwork
"In the legal field,AI can read thousands of pages in seconds but doesn't undcrstand justice;and AI in medicine
can diagnose health conditions but cannot hold patent's shaking hand,"Wu explained."The magie of human-
machine cooperation lies here:Machines are responsible for efficient operation, wlrile value judgments and'the
development of a humane character are beyond ther reac.
Lin Min,vice headmaster of a kindergarten, said that despite AI's development,a positive gutlook and a sense of
responsibility are human qualities that AI lacks. She mentioned the humanoid robot half-marathon in Beijing in April
as an example, saying what touched her most was when a robot failed to complete the race, its programmer held it in
his arms as they left.
"Machines will achieve many things that go beyond human physical limits, but they can never beat human
emotions. Those moments when people give love and gain trust from each other cannot be replaced,"said Lin.
The survey also found that about 60 percent of parents now focus on"soft skills"-such as character building.
communication, and problem-solving-for their children's development, believing AI will bandle repetitive and
standardized jobs. This compares with 43 percent who still place getting into a top university first.
Experts bave pointed out that accepting AI is an unstoppable trend. The next generation will create Al,rather

Nobel Prize winner, during a forum in Shanghai.

A recent study from the University of Minnesota has discovered a simple and powerful way to improve student
learning:more natural light. The research team found that students in classrooms with large windows and plenty of
sunlight showed considerably better learning performance and focus levels, compared to those in classrooms with
smaller windows or primarily artificial(人工的)lighting.
Dr.Emily Carter, the lead researcher, explained the findings."We've long believed that environment matters,
bur this study provides strong evidence()specifically for natural light,"she said."It's not just about seeing better;
it's about the biological influence of sunlight on our focus and mood. This could be a game-changer for how we
design schools."She added that spending money on better window design and skylights could be a cost-effective way
to improve students'leaming performance.
The study involved 101 students from three local high schools.Bach student took part in leaming sessions held
in two different classroom environments on separate days:one was a "bright"room with large windows allowing
plenty of sunlight, and the other was a"standard"room with smaller windows and relying mostly on ceiling lights.
The students completed reading comprehension tasks and memory tests during each session. To ensure faimess, the
order in which students experienced the rooms was randomized )and the tasks were of similar difficulty.
The results were clear. On average, students scored 10%higher on the memory tests and reported feeling more
focused and less tired in the "bright"classroom.Dr.Carter and her team believe these findings offer practical
guidance. They suggest that school planners should think about how to get more natural light when designing now
school buildings. For existing buildings, simple changes, like moving desks closer to windows or using lighter
curtains to allow more light in,can make a real difference.
32.What is the main finding of the study?
A.Students prefer classrooms with more outside view.
B.Large windows can make it hard for students to focus.
C.Artificial lighting is harmful to students'eyesight over time.
D.Classrooms with more natural light improve student leaming.
33.What does the underllned word "gamechanger"in paragrapb 2 mean?

A.To introduce the researchers.
B.To present the students'opinions.
C.To describe the research methods.
D.To discuss the cost of the changes.
35.What do the researchers suggest based on their study?
第6页共8页
A.Schools should stop using all artificial lights.
B.Students should spend more time outdoors.
C.Classrooms should be painted in brighter colors.
D.School design should make better use of natural light.
