An Unforgettable Hike in China
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
Most foreigners go to the Bund or the Great Wall for their first visit to China. But I have never wanted to follow the crowd. On my friends’ recommendation, I picked an unusual destination: the Tiger Leaping Gorge in Yunnan province. The area is truly one of the country’s natural treasures.
Most visitors to the gorge only took a bus ride along the Jinsha River. To discover its real beauty, however, one must take a hike on the northern side of the gorge. The hike is tiring. It takes most people two days to complete it, and some three. But it would be worth the time and effort. The hike was, for me at least, one of the most memorable trips ever.
The first part of my hike ran through green wheat fields. At this point, it was easy to enjoy the view and take photos. The scenery simply took my breath away.
Then, I reached perhaps the hardest section of the hike. It was called “Twenty-Eight Bends”. Dozens of steep switchbacks snaked up the mountainside. No one was sure where these bends started or ended. Right after I conquered the 17th bend, I saw a sign that read: “Get ready for another 28 bends!”
There was no need to be afraid, though. Several local villagers were waiting by the side of the path with their donkeys. Anytime a hiker needed a ride, all he or she had to do was hand over a few coins.
After these bends, the hiking path flattened out. The rest of the day was easier. Most people ended their first-day hike at a halfway guesthouse in the early evening, just in time for a beautiful sunset. As another hiker put it, it was “postcard perfect”.
The second day was less tiring. I walked slowly across a bamboo forest that led to a small beach. There were many streams. A waterfall was flowing directly over the path. In the early afternoon, I reached the end of the hike.
If you are looking for natural wonders, plus a bit of adventure, the Tiger Leaping Gorge is definitely for you. And don’t worry—it was named according to a bit of old folklore, so you are unlikely to meet a real tiger on your hike!
24. How many days did it take the author to complete his hike at the Tiger Leaping Gorge?
A. One and a half. B. Two. C. Two and a half. D. Three.
25. Which of the following statements about “Twenty-Eight Bends” is correct?
A. There were forty-five turns altogether.
B. The section is known for its narrow paths.
C. The section was made up of twenty-eight bends.
D. It was one of the hardest sections on the hike.
26. According to the article, some villagers were waiting at the side of “Twenty-Eight Bends” to ______.
A. take pictures of travelers for free
B. make money by offering tired hikers a ride
C. introduce the history of the section to travelers
D. warn travelers that the section was very dangerous
27. On the second day of the author’s hike at the Tiger Leaping Gorge, he saw all of the following EXCEPT ______.
A. streams B. a waterfall C. wheat fields D. a bamboo forest

Did Tesla Really Build a Flying Car?
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
Tesla has finally shown off its long-awaited second-generation Roadster. The electric sports car is extremely fast, packed with unusual technology, and able to do something few cars can: leave the ground.
At an event in Texas, Tesla demonstrated a version of the Roadster equipped with technology developed together with SpaceX engineers. Using powerful fans and thrusters, the car drove up a curved ramp, turned in the air, and gently landed on the ground. It also briefly lifted itself over several other Tesla vehicles while moving.
The technology is still remarkable. Elon Musk first discussed putting around 10 small SpaceX thrusters on the Roadster in 2018. These thrusters were expected to improve acceleration, braking, and cornering. Musk also suggested that they might one day allow the car to fly.
The new Roadster has been a long time coming. Tesla first introduced the second-generation model in 2017 and originally planned to deliver it several years later. After repeated delays, Musk now says production is expected to begin in 2028.
The display looked like something from a science fiction film. But did Tesla really build a flying car?
Not quite.
The Roadster can lift itself off the ground and control its movement in the air for a short time. However, Tesla has not shown it taking off vertically, traveling through the sky, or making a normal flight like an aircraft. It may be more accurate to describe it as a supercar that can perform controlled jumps.
The flying version is not currently approved for use on public roads, and it is unclear whether all the technology shown in the demonstration will appear in the final production car.
For now, the Roadster sits somewhere between a sports car and a flying machine. It may not be ready to carry drivers through the sky, but it has already made the idea of a flying car feel a little less impossible.
28. What can the Roadster do in the demonstration in Texas?
A. Fly freely in the sky for a long time.
B. Jump controllably and land smoothly.
C. Carry passengers to fly over high buildings.
D. Run on public roads with its thrusters.
29. What does the underlined word “thrusters” in Paragraph 3 most probably refer to?
A. Power devices that produce pushing force.
B. Special wheels that speed up cars.
C. Advanced sensors that control directions.
D. High-quality batteries storing electricity.
30. What can we infer from the text?
A. The new Roadster will come into the market in 2027.
B. All the demo technology will be kept in mass production.
C. The Roadster cannot be treated as a real flying car at present.
D. Musk first designed the second-generation Roadster in 2018.
31. What is the main idea of the text?
A. To introduce the history of the Tesla Roadster.
B. To explain how flying cars work in the near future.
C. To prove that flying cars will replace ordinary sports cars.
D. To clarify whether Tesla has created a real flying car.

Chinese Smartphones’ Price Rise: Progress or Pressure?
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
In recent years, major Chinese smartphone brands including Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO and Honor have raised their product prices. The price increase, ranging from several hundred to over one thousand yuan, has drawn heated public discussion. Some consumers complain that the “cost-performance era” of domestic phones is gone, while industry analysts regard it as a natural step of industrial upgrading.
The price rise comes from several practical reasons. First of all, key components such as chips and storage units have become more expensive. With the rapid development of AI technology, AI servers take up a large share of chip production capacity, pushing up the cost of mobile phone parts. Besides, domestic brands have poured huge money into independent research and development. To break technical barriers, they invest heavily in self-developed chips, camera systems and new materials. These long-term investments cannot be covered by low pricing forever.
However, price increases also bring challenges. Many ordinary users feel it hard to afford new phones. If brands simply raise prices without improving user experience, they risk losing customers. Competing only by low prices once trapped domestic phone makers in endless price wars. They copied similar functions and squeezed profits, leaving little money for innovation. From this point, moving away from cheap competition is a positive change.
Still, higher prices do not equal better products. Price growth should be matched with real value improvement. Brands are supposed to balance profit and public needs. They should offer high-quality products to justify higher prices, instead of making customers pay more for the same experience.
In short, the price rise of Chinese smartphones is not merely greedy profit-seeking. It marks the industry’s shift from low-price competition to technology-driven value competition. Whether this change will bring long-term success depends on whether brands can turn higher costs into real benefits for users.
32. What phenomenon is the text mainly about?
A. The fast development of AI technology in smartphones.
B. Chinese smartphone brands raising product prices.
C. The fierce price wars among domestic phone makers.
D. Difficulties in producing mobile phone chips.
33. Which is one reason for the price rise of Chinese smartphones?
A. The falling demand for mobile phones worldwide.
B. The low profit from selling high-end cameras.
C. Higher costs of chips and other key parts.
D. The slow update of smartphone software.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards the price rise?
A. Fully supportive.
B. Strongly opposed.
C. Doubtful and worried.
D. Objective and critical.
35. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Higher prices alone cannot guarantee the industry’s success.
B. The price rise will make domestic phones lose all customers.
C. Low-price competition still works well for phone brands.
D. Most phone users refuse to buy new expensive phones.
