My name is Eric. My family has quite a few rules. At first, I hated some of them, but now I start to understand my parents’ love behind these rules.
On school days, I must get home by 5:30 p. m. and I can’t go out with my friends unless I finish all my homework. I used to plan to play basketball after school with my teammates. But my dad told me, “You’d better not do that, or you will stay up late to finish your schoolwork.” I felt upset at that time. I thought parents should respect our hobbies.
I enjoy listening to pop music. However, I am not allowed to listen to it while I study. My parents always say music will get in the way of my schoolwork. After dinner, I need to help take out the rubbish and fold my clothes. They believe doing chores can help me become more independent.
I can’t stay up late even on weekends. When I have a big test, I can spend more time reviewing, but I can’t stay up past 11 p. m. My mom often reminds me that it’s hard for teenagers to keep healthy without enough sleep.
As time goes by, I find these rules are not terrible. There is a saying, “Love means rules.” My parents make these rules not because they want to control me, but because they worry about me. I will keep following most of the rules and communicate with them when I have different opinions.

Many people talk about friendship and share their different ideas. Some people think good friends must be the same, but others believe friends can be quite different.
Is it important for friends to be the same? Some people say yes. If you and your friend have the same hobbies, you can do many things together. You can share the same music, sports and books. It’s easy to talk and have fun.
However, some people don’t think friends need to be the same. Being different is also great. When your friend is better at math, he or she can help you with your math. If you are more outgoing, you can help your shy friend meet new people. Different friends can learn from each other.
In fact, being the same or different is not so important. The most important thing for a good friend is to truly care about you. A good friend will listen to you when you are upset, and cheer for you when you get good grades. True friendship doesn’t depend on how similar you two are. decorating describe freshly matters planned her smelt
I still remember what happened on my father’s fortieth birthday. For the important day my mother 61 everything carefully. She did some cleaning early in the morning. Then she began to cook a big meal while I was 62 the living room. Three hours later, Mom finally took two plates to the table. She spent three hours cooking two dishes — a seafood salad and a roast duck!
Looking at the 63 made dishes, I had no appetite (食欲). The roast duck looked terrible in colour. I picked one piece, 64 it and then put it in my mouth. It was hard to 65 the taste, but it was absolutely (绝对) awful. I complained (抱怨) and only ate a little. However, my father didn’t complain at all. Instead, he ate another piece and smiled at my mother, “Good taste. I love it! Thank you, dear!” My mother smiled happily and said, “Happy birthday, my dear!” I couldn’t understand what my father said and did at that time. I thought he must have a taste problem.
For ten years, my father has still loved the food my mother cooks, although 66 skills haven’t improved. As time went by, I came to know that no one is perfect, including my mother. Nothing is perfect, including my family.

One day last month, I was talking to my writer friend Alex about writing. At the end of our conversation, I asked him, “As a writer, you must enjoy writing, right?”
“Not always,” he said. He thought for a moment and added, “I enjoy writing when it gives me a sense of pride.”
“You know,” Alex went on, “some articles are harder to write than others. Sometimes, I’m not sure if the readers will like my article. I try to write as well as I can. When I finally look at my work, I feel good about myself.”
Alex’s answer made me think of a trip ten years ago. My friends and I were halfway up Mount Huashan after a short bus ride. It was a rainy day, and the mountain is famous for its steepness (陡峭). As we looked up at its peaks, some of us thought of giving up. “You’ll feel sorry about your decision,” our guide said as he encouraged us to keep going.
Soon, we arrived at “Yaozi Fanshen (鹞子翻身)”. It’s the most famous and challenging attraction on East Peak. We climbed up the almost vertical (垂直的) rock face by pulling at the iron chains. It tired us out. But we felt proud.
We finally climbed three peaks of Mount Huashan that day. In some places, we even took the steeper way. We found that the more difficult the climb was, the more pride we got.
Some mountains now provide tourists with an easier way up-a ride on an escalator. But just as it is in writing, for some things in our lives, the harder way brings better rewards.
