If you talked to an AI bot a lot, would you start to see it as a real friend and depend on it too much? The government has introduced new rules for AI companion bots (陪伴型机器人).
These bots, either in the form of a toy or an app, have become a part of many people’s daily lives. They are always friendly and patient. Some young people spend a lot of time with them and pull away from real-life friends, Wang Zhechen from Fudan University told China Daily.
To fix this, the new rules say AI bots can’t encourage people to use them for too long. They must show pop-up messages reminding people to take a break after two hours. If people start to see AI as a real friend, the system should also make the difference clear: “This is a machine, not a real person,” expert Liu Xiaochun explained to China Daily.
The rules also require (要求) AI bots to be safe and kind. They can’t tell lies, share private information or do anything that could harm national security (国家安全). For example, imagine you have a bad day and tell AI, “I’m sad.” In the past, AI might use information about your feelings to show you ads (广告) for toys or candy. Now, the rules stop this.
If you’re under 18 and open an AI app, teen mode (青少年模式) will turn on by itself. Your parents can check how long you chat. At the same time, AI won’t give you unsafe advice just to make you happy.
26. Why did China make new rules for AI companion bots?
A. To make AI bots more clever.
B. To help some young people who spend much time on AI bots.
C. To stop people from using AI bots at home.
27. What will the AI bots do after two hours according to the new rules?
A. They will send pop-up messages to remind people to have a rest.
B. They will stop working forever.
C. They will ask people to buy more toys.
28. Which of the following is NOT required by the new rules?
A. AI bots should be safe and kind.
B. AI bots cannot tell lies.
C. AI bots can share users’ private information.
29. What happens if you are under 18 and open an AI app?
A. Teen mode will turn on by itself.
B. You cannot open the app at all.
C. Your parents can read all your school homework.
30. What is the main idea of the article?
A. How to make good AI companion bots.
B. China’s new rules to protect users of AI companion bots.
C. Different ways to make friends with AI bots.

Different families have different ways to deal with chores and pocket money (零花钱). Some parents pay (支付) their kids for doing housework. They believe this helps children learn the value of working for money. However, other parents think kids should do chores without getting rewards (奖励). In their opinion, helping with housework is part of being a family member.
Some parents give money for each small chore, like washing dishes. But a problem appears: kids may help only when they can get money. Another choice is giving weekly or monthly pocket money after kids finish all their chores. It makes chores feel less tiring, yet children may still work just for money.
Some parents don’t want to pay for chores. They want kids to understand their family duty and learn to use money wisely. Still, kids may fail to see the connection (联系) between work and money.
There is also a middle-ground (折中的) idea. Parents can reward kids only for bigger chores instead of simple daily ones. No rule is perfect. Families should keep trying different ways and find what fits them best.

On July 25, the Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites (景德镇手工瓷业遗存) were put on the UNESCO World Heritage List (联合国教科文组织世界遗产名录). It is China’s 61st world heritage site, and the world’s first one about porcelain. Let’s see the charm (魅力) of China’s porcelain capital.

Jingdezhen began its history of making ceramics (陶瓷) as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), and got the name of “Jingde” from Emperor Zhenzong in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Works were sold all over the world in those times.
Porcelain gene bank
In 2022, Jingdezhen built the world’s first “gene bank (基因库)” for ancient Chinese porcelain. Researchers collect data on old porcelain by taking photos and 3D scanning (扫描). In 1987, Ducktor Sui (岁岁鸭), a Ming Dynasty porcelain duck, was found in pieces. Now, it has been brought “back to life” thanks to the gene bank. It has become a big star at the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum (景德镇御窑博物馆).
Delicious fun in Jingdezhen
Jingdezhen offers wonderful experiences for visitors. You can learn to create your own porcelain art at a national training base (培训基地), play porcelain-themed jubensha (剧本杀) about old-time porcelain makers and walk around creative markets. Don’t forget to eat the porcelain clay-baked chicken (瓷泥煨鸡), a famous traditional dish from Jingdezhen cooked in a kiln.
A creative home for artists
Today, lots of young creators go to Jingdezhen to run workshops (工作室). By the end of 2025, around 60,000 young outsiders were working there, including more than 5,000 foreigners. They sell their works at creative markets, like the Taoxichuan Spring and Autumn Art Fair (陶溪川春秋大集). It is held every May and October at the site of an old porcelain kiln.

One sweet story stays in my mind. Last year, I prepared for an important test and often stayed up late. Every night, Mum brought hot fruit tea for me. On weekends, Dad helped me go over lessons. One rainy night, we three cleaned our house together, laughing all the time. These simple moments filled our home with joy.
I’ll do more housework and share my feelings with parents. Small acts of love can make our home sweeter.
Thank you for listening!
