Our personalities shape our choices and our future. Some people are born outgoing, while others are naturally quiet and thoughtful. But personality does not decide everything. We can improve ourselves through hard work and proper self-reflection.
Wang Yi was a quiet and careful student. In the past, he was afraid of speaking in public. Whenever he had to give a speech, he would get nervous and fall into low spirits. He used to doubt whether he could make any change. He thought it was impossible for a shy boy to become confident.
His teacher told him, “Success requires long-time practice. Neither talent nor luck can take the place of continuous efforts. If you hold on to your dream and keep practising, little by little you will make great progress.”
Wang Yi took the advice. He practised his speech every night. At first, he made many mistakes. But he did not give up. Months later, he stood on the stage and finished his speech smoothly. Now he understands: we should not be limited by our personalities. As long as we keep trying, we can break our limits.
31.What was Wang Yi’s problem at first?
A.He was too careless in his homework.

①Sitting through a family dinner, your uncle suddenly starts talking about different topics like an expert. But everything he knows is from TikTok. After exams, one classmate is sure to do well. But he ends up with far-lower marks than expected. Sounds familiar? This kind of behavior is called the Dunning-Kruger effect.
②In 1995, a man named Wheeler robbed a bank with lemon juice on his face. He believed it would make him not be seen. This story inspired two psychologists (心理学家) David Dunning and Justin Kruger to do some experiments. They asked people to tell how well they did in certain tasks. The results showed people with poor skills often thought they did much better than they actually did. They failed to see their own shortcomings, which made them too confident.
③Later, people used a simple graph (图表) to show this effect. It clearly tells us the link between our actual knowledge and our self-confidence. When we know very little about something, our confidence rises to a quite high point. We may even believe we know everything. Digging deeper, we begin to realize how difficult the topic truly is and our confidence drops. At this point, we start questioning ourselves. Only when we keep learning can our ability and confidences rise in a healthy way.
④This is not just a psychological phenomenon (现象) for strangers or uncles at dinner—it is a mistake that everyone may easily fall into. Have you ever laughed at your classmates’ mistakes without realizing your own? Have you ever turned a deaf ear to others’ advice because you thought you knew better? Have you ever felt fully prepared, only to be shocked by the final result? If so, you are having it too.
⑤Dear graduates of 2026, as you are stepping into senior high and then a wider world, remember that real growth lies in the courage to be modest (谦虚). Always remember to learn, feel, and listen, and you will surely shine brighter in the years ahead.
34.Which sentence might be said by the uncle in Paragraph ①?
A.“I’m not sure. You’d better go and ask a teacher about this.”
B.“Oranges are good for the skin? Let’s check more articles.”
C.“This accident has many causes. I may not know the truth.”
D.“This war would end fast if they just listened to me.”
35.What do the experiments by Dunning and Kruger show?
A.Most people can see their shortcomings, more or less.
B.Less skilled people often think highly of themselves.
C.A person can tell how well he or she finishes a task.
D.Lemon juice doesn’t work for hiding people’s bodies.
36.Who is most likely to be at Point D in the graph?
A.A student who is beating self-doubt step by step with hard work.
B.A person who feels super confident after taking the first driving lesson.
C.A math teacher who feels very lost in the beginning of his teaching.
D.An experienced doctor who keeps learning for many years at work.
37.Which of the following can be put in the third box of the structure?
A.Listing more results. B.Sharing scientific facts.
C.Connecting with readers. D.Discussing different ideas
文章第①段“your uncle suddenly starts talking about different topics like an expert. But everything he knows is from TikTok.”表明文中的叔叔知识储备有限却盲目自信、喜欢不懂装懂,D选项的话语体现出极度自负、自认无所不知的特点,符合叔叔的行为特征。
35.细节理解题。文章第②段“The results showed people with poor skills often thought they did much better than they actually did.”表明能力不足的人往往会高估自己的表现,对自身评价过高。
36.推理判断题。文章第③段对图表的解释“Only when we keep learning can our ability and confidence rise in a healthy way.”以及图表中D点的位置,表明D点代表的是通过持续学习,能力和自信都健康提升的人,医生符合这一特征。
37.篇章结构题。文章第④段“it is a mistake that everyone may easily fall into. Have you ever laughed at your classmates’ mistakes without realizing your own?...If so, you are having it too.”以第二人称反问读者的亲身经历,将达克效应与读者自身建立联系,对应文章结构的第三个部分。

When Wang Hong accepted the Fields Medal (菲尔兹奖) in 2026, many people in China felt proud. The prize is described as one of the highest honors in mathematics. But for Wang, the road to that moment was not a straight line. It looked more like the famous “needle” (针) in the Kakeya conjecture (挂谷猜想): it kept turning, testing new directions before finding enough space.
Wang grew up in Pingle County, Guangxi. At four, her arm was badly hurt by boiling water. Her parents always took her to hospital. Because her skin was sensitive (敏感的) to light, she spent much time indoors. Instead, the difficult experience helped her learn how to read alone. In primary school, she skipped (跳过) two grades.
Her father, a maths teacher, opened the door to numbers for her. Wang later said maths was one way for her to understand the world. As a child, she was excited when she solved a problem. Her parents did not push her along a fixed road. They gave her freedom, which became an important kind of support.
At middle school, she loved asking questions and sometimes thought about easy problems in surprisingly complex (复杂的) ways. She was younger than most classmates. Once, a classmate laughed at her for raising her hand too often. Her teacher Tang Nianhua comforted her and helped her join a “Daily Problem” group, where her mathematical thinking grew sharper.
At Peking University, her road was not smooth either. Later at MIT, She even stopped maths for a while and explored art and architecture (建筑).
In the end, she returned. “In mathematics, I can freely build anything,” she once said. Years of doubt, detours (弯路) and repeated trying did not pull her away from the problem. They helped her come back to it with a stronger mind. When fame finally arrived, Wang remained low-key (低调). Her advice to students was simple: if you gain something in the end, it does not matter whether you are faster or slower. Do not rush. Take your time.
42.Why does the writer compare Wang Hong’s life to the “needle” in the Kakeya conjecture?
A.Because she never gave up even when she faced difficulties.
B.Because she was very thin and small when she was young.
C.Because she liked to solve hard problems.
D.Because she changed directions several times before finally finding her way.
43.What can we infer about the freedom Wang’s parents gave her?
A.It helped her develop the habit of thinking about problems in surprising ways.
B.It showed that they trusted her to make decisions about her own studies.
C.It allowed her to develop her own interests without being pushed into a fixed path.
D.It allowed her to skip grades and enter different schools at a young age.
44.What do we know about Wang Hong’s middle school life?
A.She was taught by her parents to think in unusual ways.
B.She showed a habit of thinking differently from others about simple questions.
C.She was often laughed at because she asked too many questions.
D.She was younger than her classmates, so she had to work much harder than them.
45.What is the main message of this passage?
A.Hard work is the only thing that matters for success.
B.A successful person never changes their mind or direction.
C.People may have doubts, take different paths, and still achieve great things in the end.
D.Teachers and parents are the most important people in a student’s life.

B.He felt nervous speaking in public.

D.He often argued with his classmates.

Make a list. When you get your pocket money, don't get too excited. We all have a lot of things that we want, but do you really need them? That's why it is necessary to make a list before you spend money.Start with the thing you want most. You can also write down how much it costs or how important it is in your life.By doing this, you will see if you really need to buy it.
Help others. How about being more selfless(无私的) and using your pocket money to help others? We all know that there are many people in the world who are in need of our help.Helping others brings out the best in us and is one of the greatest joys in our lives. So consider using your pocket money to do something useful and helpful, and feel how you can make a difference.
Save as much as you can. There is an old saying,"Money doesn't grow on trees."If you spend all your pocket money right away, you'll have no money until your next "pay day".A wallet sometimes might not be the best place to save money because it may make it easier for you to spend your money.Get a piggy bank(存钱罐) or ask your parents to start a savings account(账户) for you.Someday when you look back, you'll get a strong feeling of achievement by saving so much money by yourself.
