When you and your friends turn to each other to talk about problems or troubles, you give each other advice and help. One important thing in our growth is to make decisions to help our friends and learn to support each other. This requires us to learn what it means to help friends and how to help them in the right ways.
The first step towards helping others is to identify that they need help. We all know that difficulties are part of our daily lives. However, sometimes small things can lead to more serious problems that require more help. It’s important to make sure when to help a friend. For example, you may pick up some signs that your friends are not acting like themselves. These signs show they may not be well.
The next step towards helping others is to listen. Paying attention to others while listening is very important throughout our life. When we communicate with others, we need to learn when to speak and when not to. As listeners, we should try to understand what the speakers are feeling or experiencing and try to see things from their perspectives (视角). Learning social skills is a key part of child development. The good news is that social skills can be taught. It is never too soon to start showing kids how to get along with others. Start with these most basic social skills first.
Sharing
A willingness to share a snack or a toy can go a long way towards helping kids make and keep friends. According to a study, children between the ages of 3 and 6 are often selfish when it comes to sharing things that come at a cost. While it’s usually not a good idea to force your child to share, you can point out sharing when you see it. Praise a child for sharing and note how it makes others feel.
Making eye contact (接触)
Good eye contact is an important part of communication. If your child struggles (斗争) with eye contact, offer quick reminders after the fact. In a gentle voice, ask, “Where should your eyes go when someone is talking to you?” You don’t want to cause a shy child additional anxiety. And, provide praise when your child remembers to look at people when they are talking.
Listening
Listening isn’t just about staying quiet—it means really absorbing what someone else is saying. After all, much of the learning at school depends on a child’s ability to listen to what the teacher is saying. When reading a book to your children, periodically (定期地) stop and ask them to tell you about what you’re reading. Pause and say, “Tell me what you remember about the story so far.” Don’t allow your children to interrupt others when they’re talking.
59. What can we do when we see a kid share things with others?
A. Force the kid to share more toys and snacks.
B. Praise the kid and talk about others’ feelings.
C. Stop the kid because sharing costs too much.
D. Ask the kid to keep all the things for himself.
60. What should we do if a shy child has trouble with eye contact?
A. Keep reminding him loudly while he is talking.
B. Avoid making him feel more nervous and praise him when he does well.
C. Ask him to look into others’ eyes all the time without any break.
D. Tell him eye contact is the most important skill in communication.

C
Can you remember how you felt the last time you shared something? Whether it’s your favourite snack or an exciting experience, sharing is a great way to build trust and friendship with others.
Sharing means letting someone else have or use something that belongs to you. This can be clothes, games or food, and also things you can’t take back—ideas, time and experience.
When you share your feelings and knowledge with others, you’re showing that you trust them, which helps to enhance friendships. Scientists have discovered that sharing causes your brain to produce something that makes you feel calm and relaxed. When you share a problem with friends, you’re more likely to find a way to solve it. Sharing ideas means others can help turn them into a reality. It’s also an act of kindness that makes others more likely to share things with you. The twins Gabby and Lola are 11 years old. Gabby says that she likes seeing the smile it puts on someone’s face.
Sharing isn’t always easy. Gabby says she doesn’t like it when people don’t respect the things she has shared, and Lola sometimes prefers to keep her favourite food to herself. You don’t have to share, but try to be honest and open. It can sometimes make you feel uncomfortable to share something so personal, but explaining how your feelings are influencing your life may help others understand.
62. What is the writer trying to do in the second paragraph?
A. Explain what sharing means. B. Advise us to share with others.
C. Tell us how to share with others. D. Show the importance of sharing.
63. What does the underlined word “enhance” mean?
A. Make sth. popular. B. Make sth. strong.
C. Make sth. relaxing. D. Make sth. possible.
64. Why doesn’t Gabby like to share sometimes?
A. She is afraid that sharing can make her life worse.

When the teacher asks if anyone can speak in front of the class, you lower your head. When you go to the restroom or dining hall, you always try to find someone to go with you because you are afraid of being seen alone. Is that you?
Well, many people have these kinds of experiences. They are feeling social anxiety (社交焦虑). People with social anxiety may easily communicate with intimate ones, like their family members and old friends. But meeting new friends and talking in public can make them very shy and nervous. A recent survey showed that about 45 per cent of the 1,560 interviewees said they experienced social anxiety.
Stefan G. Hofmann, an expert from Boston University, the US, said that social anxiety is probably “a result of the fear that we will not be welcome”. For Chinese kids, there’s another reason for their anxiety. Shu Man from East China Jiaotong University said, “Most of them are the only child in their families, so they don’t have many chances to practice their social skills.”
But how to be social and improve your social skills? People can follow these methods. Firstly, work on self-worth. Stop thinking of things that make you down. Do your best to stop comparing yourself with others. Secondly, start smiling and use welcoming body language. Remember to give others a hug when you meet them. Stop looking at your phone all the time. Lastly, just be yourself. Take every chance to hang out with new people and those you like. Don’t hide yourself in your own world.

第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Communication is the process by which we exchange information between people. The aim of communicating well is to understand and to be understood. Communication can be successful only when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information.
Good communication skills are keys to success in life, work and relationships. Without effective communication, a message can turn into error, misunderstanding, or even disaster. In today’s highly informational and technological environment, it has become more important to have good communication skills. Here are some important steps to communicate effectively.
Know what you want to say and why. Understand clearly the purpose of your message. Know to whom you are communicating and why.
How will you say it? We all know that it’s not always what you say, but how you say it, that matters. Begin by making eye contact. You show trust and confidence when you look at others in the eyes when you speak. Second, pay attention to your body language, since it can say so much more than your words. By standing with your arms easily at your sides, you tell others that you are open to hearing what they have to say.
Communication is a two-way street. After you have said what you have to say, stop and listen. Practice your listening skills. Be considerate of others who are talking. Listen carefully and never cut them off.

第一节 阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
When you and your friends turn to each other to talk about problems or troubles, you give each other advice and help.
Listening and paying attention to others when they speak is a sign of respect and a skill that will lead to deeper and better relationships.
56. What is the purpose of the passage?
A. To discuss why people help each other.
B. To describe the problems of giving help.
C. To introduce the advantages of giving help.
D. To explain how we can help others properly.
57. What is the first step to help others according to the passage?
A. To give friends lots of advice at once.
B. To find out that they are in need of help.
C. To ask friends what problems they have.
D. To share your own troubles with friends.
58. What should we do as listeners when our friends talk about troubles?
A. We should keep silent and never give any ideas.
B. We should try to understand their feelings and see things from their sides.
C. We should speak as much as possible to cheer them up.
D. We should tell them all our own similar experiences.
B
61. In which part of a newspaper can you find the passage?
A. Travel. B. Science. C. Family. D. Health.

63. What does the underlined word “enhance” mean?
A. Make sth. popular. B. Make sth. strong.
C. Make sth. relaxing. D. Make sth. possible.

A. She is afraid that sharing can make her life worse.
B. It makes her nervous and scared to share with others.
C. People don’t respect what she has shared.
D. She thinks sharing can’t make ideas become a reality.
65. What’s the best title for this passage?
A. Let’s Start to Share! B. What’s the Secret of Sharing?
C. How to Share in Daily Life D. Sharing Makes the World a Better Place!
D
66. How does the writer start the text?
A. By giving reasons. B. By giving examples.
C. By telling stories. D. By showing surveys.
67. What does the underlined word “intimate” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Polite. B. Quiet. C. Close. D. Humorous.
