A
Getting into college is a big step for high school graduates, and it comes with a lot of changes. For most students, it’s the first time they’re living away from home and managing their own life. Not surprisingly, adapting to this new lifestyle can be challenging. The following four tips will make high school graduates better prepared for college life.
Goal setting
When setting goals, whether they’re academic, career, or personal, re-member they should be attainable but not too easy, so that you really have to push yourself to achieve them, and feel rewarded when you do. Writing down your goals and breaking down each huge, long-term goal into smaller more practical ones can help make it feel more real, and writing out a plan for achieving it can give you a roadmap to success.
Interpersonal skills
At college, you will interact with fellow students, professors, librarians, and many others. Strong interpersonal skills will help you build relationships during this time, and get more out of them. If you feel that your interpersonal skills need some work, practice asking thoughtful questions and listening closely, develop your understanding by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, and enhance your self-confidence.
Studying
With fewer in-class hours and more on-your-own learning, you’re required to really digest learning material rather than simply memorize facts. To be successful in college you’ll need to learn how to integrate large amounts of information obtained through reading, do research, and write papers. Organization is the key, so if you are not someone who is naturally organized, set up your study schedule.
Budgeting
Managing money is a critical life skill, and for many, it is at college that they develop it for the first time. Start by estimating your financial balance. Then give high priority to the expenses on basic needs and determine how much money to set aside every month to cover those costs. Don’t forget about savings…and the fun stuff(movies, dinners out), too.

When I was a child I was often told what not to eat. “You don’t want to get fat” was on constant repeat throughout my childhood. It really messed up my relationship with food — something that took me years to overcome. Because of this, I’m careful not to connect what my kids weigh with their worth as people. I encourage my daughter to make healthy snack choices and often dissuade (劝阻) her from a second dessert. But one day when I heard her saying “I think I’m too fat,” my heart sank. It made me wonder if giving her advice on snacks was having an unintentionally negative impact.
According to Charlotte Markey, a professor of psychology, food is one of the rare subjects where, as parents, saying less is more. “There are so many things in parenting that are good to talk through, but I’m not convinced that food is one of them,” she says. “It just creates some worries and insecurities in kids that aren’t necessarily healthy.”
Instead, she recommends applying a well-known concept among nutrition experts called the “Division of Responsibility,” where parents provide a variety of mostly healthy foods to their kids at fixed times, and the kids themselves decide what and how much they want to consume — even if that means occasionally eating more cookies than carrots.
Allowing kids to eat what they want also exposes them to the natural consequences of their decisions. “When your child says, ‘My stomach hurts,’ you can say, ‘Well you had a lot of sugary foods and you might feel better if you made some other choices,’” says Markey. “Let them feel like they have some control over it.”
I’ve been trying out these strategies and I’ve found that when I’m less restrictive, they do make better decisions. “Feeding is a long game,” says Markey. “The food you have available makes a huge difference. Even if they don’t eat it, they’ re seeing it. And then all of a sudden it clicks.”
6. What can be inferred about the author from the first paragraph?
A. She is upset by her kids’ weight. B. She is critical of the way she was fed.
C. She is interested in making food. D. She is particular about what she eats.
7. Which of the following would Markey disapprove of?
A. Allowing kids to eat cookies occasionally. B. Offering various foods to kids at fixed times.
C. Explaining to kids the risks of taking snacks. D. Talking with kids about school at mealtimes.
8. What should kids do according to the “Division of Responsibility”?
A. Make diet decisions on their own. B. Share their food with other kids.
C. Eat up what is provided for them. D. Help their parents do the dishes.
9. What does the author think of the strategies she has been following?
A. Costly. B. Complex.
C. Workable. D. Contradictory.
C
I used to believe that only words could catch the essence (本质) of the human soul. The literary works contained such distinct stories that they shaped the way we saw the world. Words were what composed the questions we sought to uncover and the answers to those questions themselves. Words were everything.
That belief changed.
In an ordinary math class, my teacher posed a simple question: What’s 0. 99 rounded to the nearest whole number? Easy. When rounded to the nearest whole number, 0. 99=1. Somehow, I thought even though 0. 99 is only 0. 01 away from 1, there’s still a 0. 01 difference. That means even if two things are only a little different, they are still different, so doesn’t that make them completely different?
My teacher answered my question by presenting another equation (等式) : 1= 0. 9, which could also be expressed as 1=0. 99999… repeating itself without ever ending.
There was something mysterious but attractive about the equation. The left side was unchangeable, objective: it contained a number that ended. On the right was something endless, number repeating itself limitless times. Yet, somehow, these two opposed things were connected by an equal sign.
Lying in bed, I thought about how much the equation paralleled our existence. The left side of the equation represents that sometimes life itself is so unchangeable and so clear. The concrete, whole number of the day when you were born and the day when you would die. But then there is that gap in between life and death. The right side means a time and space full of limitless possibilities, and endless opportunities into the open future.
So that’s what life is. Objective but imaginative. Unchangeable but limitless. Life is an equation with two sides that balances itself out. Still, we can’t ever truly seem to put the perfect words to it. So possibly numbers can express ideas as equally well as words can. For now, let’s leave it at that: 1= 0. 99999… and live a life like it.
10. What does the author emphasize about words in paragraph 1?
A. Their wide variety. B. Their literary origins.
C. Their different sounds. D. Their expressive power.
11. What made the author find the equation attractive?
A. The repetition of a number. B. The difference between the two numbers.
C. The question the teacher raised. D. The way two different numbers are equal.
12. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “paralleled” in paragraph 6?
A. Measured. B. Mirrored. C. Composed. D. Influenced.
13. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. The Perfect Equation. B. Numbers Build Equations.
C. An Attractive Question. D. Words Outperform Numbers.
D
A dropped bag of chips disturbed a cave ecosystem in Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico. This cave is almost cut off from the outside world, so introducing anything foreign can be harmful. “Things in the damp cave get wet quickly,” says park guide Ashley. The snack attracts tiny organisms, causing unwanted growth. Soon, small animals like crickets and spiders came to eat, spreading the pollution. Rangers found the bag within hours. “But that can be all it takes,” says Ashley. “I’m sure some crickets got a bit of the snack.”
Over 500 million people visit American public lands each year, creating many chances to harm wild places. “When you look at the numbers, it’s incredible,” says Watts, head of the Leave No Trace Center in Colorado, an organization aimed at minimizing human impact on nature.
Food waste takes a long time to break down, especially in certain areas. “It takes much longer for an apple core to rot in a desert than in a forest,” says Blye, a teacher at the University of Utah. Leaving waste introduces animals to an unnatural diet and alters their behavior with sometimes disastrous results. Bears who taste garbage and become a threat to humans may have to be put down. “Bears can get used to unnatural food in three weeks,” says Watts. “Everyone loses in this case.”
Biological waste is also problematic. Dog waste brings new bacteria into the ecosystem and scares away deer. Meanwhile, human waste and toilet paper introduces dangerous bacteria into water sources.
In national parks, trails (小路) are designed to avoid sensitive areas. Stepping off the trail, even for a quick photo, can scare wildlife away. Impacts from many visitors result in long-term damage to nature and wildlife. But people don’t think of that when they see the perfect photo opportunity. “It’s just such a hard thing to resist,” says Blye. The risk to sensitive ecosystems isn’t obvious. “It’s easy to think, oh, there’s wildflowers over there. I shouldn’t step on that,” says Blye, but these tiny ecosystems full of microscopic organisms essential to desert life provide many benefits, including reducing the risk of erosion (侵蚀) and helping absorb rainfall, and can take hundreds of years to return to its original state.
14. What does Ashley mean by “But that can be all it takes.”?
A. The rangers’ work is efficient. B. The damage has been done.
C. The cleanup takes a long time. D. The pollution has spread widely.
15. What is a result of foreign waste in public lands?
A. A shift in animal behavior. B. A shortage of food supplies.
C. A decline in bacterial species. D. An increase in regional conflicts.
16. Why does the writer mention wildflowers in paragraph 5?
A. To praise their benefits to desert life.
B. To highlight our damage to ecosystems.
C. To stress their significance for photography.
D. To show our unawareness of nature’s sensitivity.
17. What is conveyed in this passage?
A. We should encourage wildlife protection. B. We should leave no trace in the wild.
C. We should promote national park tourism. D. We should restore ecological damage.

Children as young as ten are becoming dependent on social media for their sense of self-worth, a major study warned.
It found many youngsters(少年)now measure their status by how much public approval they get online, often through “likes”. Some change their behaviour in real life to improve their image on the web.
The report into youngsters aged from 8 to 12 was carried out by Children's Commissioner (专员) Anne Longfield. She said social media firms were exposing children to major emotional risks, with some youngsters starting secondary school ill-equipped to cope with the tremendous pressure they faced online.
Some social apps were popular among the children even though they supposedly require users to be at least 13. The youngsters admitted planning trips around potential photo-opportunities and then messaging friends—and friends of friends — to demand “likes” for their online posts.
The report found that youngsters felt their friendships could be at risk if they did not respond to social media posts quickly, and around the clock.
Children aged 8 to 10 were "starting to feel happy" when others liked their posts. However, those in the 10 to 12 age group were "concerned with how many people like their posts", suggesting a “need” for social recognition that gets stronger the older they become.
Miss Longfield warned that a generation of children risked growing up "worried about their appearance and image as a result of the unrealistic lifestyles they follow on platforms, and increasingly anxious about switching off due to the constant demands of social media.
She said: "Children are using social media with family and friends and to play games when they are in primary school. But what starts as fun usage of apps turns into tremendous pressure in real social media interaction at secondary school."
As their world expanded, she said, children compared themselves to others online in a way that was "hugely damaging in terms of their self-identity, in terms of their confidence, but also in terms of their ability to develop themselves".
Miss Longfield added: "Then there is this push to connect—if you go offline, will you miss something, will you miss out, will you show that you don't care about those people you are following, all of those come together in a huge way at once." "For children it is very, very difficult to cope with emotionally." The Children's Commissioner for England's study—life in Likes—found that children as young as 8 were using social media platforms largely for play.
However, the research—involving eight groups of 32 children aged 8 to 12—suggested that as they headed toward their teens, they became increasingly anxious online.
By the time they started secondary school—at age 11—children were already far more aware of their image online and felt under huge pressure to ensure their posts were popular, the report found.
However, they still did not know how to cope with mean-spirited jokes, or the sense of incompetence they might feel if they compared themselves to celebrities(名人) or more brilliant friends online. The report said they also faced pressure to respond to messages at all hours of the day—especially at secondary school when more youngsters have mobile phones.
The Children’s Commissioner said schools and parents must now do more to prepare children for the emotional minefield(雷区) they faced online. And she said social media companies must also "take more responsibility". They should either monitor their websites better so that children do not sign up too early, or they should adjust their websites to the needs of younger users.
Javed Khan, of children's charity Bamardo's, said: "It's vital that new compulsory age-appropriate relationship and sex education lessons in England should help equip children to deal with the growing demands of social media.”
“It’s also hugely important for parents to know which apps their children are using.”
18. Why did some secondary school students feel too much pressure?
A. They were not provided with adequate equipment.
B. They were not well prepared for emotional risks.
C. They were required to give quick responses.
D. They were prevented from using mobile phones.

A. less friendliness to each other
B. lower self-identity and confidence
C. an increase in online cheating
D. a stronger desire to stay online
21. According to Life in Likes, as children grew, they became more anxious to ________.
A. circulate their posts quickly
B. know the qualities of their posts
C. use mobile phones for play
D. get more public approval
22. What should parents do to solve the problem?
A. Communicate more with secondary schools.
B. Urge media companies to create safer apps.
C. Keep track of children's use of social media.
D. Forbid their children from visiting the web.
23. What does the passage mainly talk about?

The tanker lay in the bay for four days, a few hundred meters from the shore. In this tideless water she lay as still and secure as if fastened to a wall. In a way, she was, for the sandy bottom held her in its grip. Twice the harbor master’s boat went out to her; the second time it brought off a number of the crew. It never occurred to the watchers on shore that the ship was in danger, she looked so calm and seaworthy. From time to time there was activity on board: when a land wind rose in the evenings, the tanker’s engines came to life. Then the vessel shook herself and strained fiercely, but none of it did her any good. She just stayed where she was in the bay.
The July sun blazed down on her flat decks. Occasionally a seaman, stripped to the waist, came out on to the deck with the movements of someone performing a complicated dance, stepping lightly, never resting on that burning metal. Once or twice he kept close to the ship’s rail, with an arm raised against the sunlight, staring at the people on the beach. Throughout the day the air rose in visible waves from the tanker’s decks. When a sea wind blew, it brought with it the heavy smell of oil. At night the ship lay in total darkness.
On the fifth morning a thick bank of sea mist filled the bay. It seemed that the tanker had got away in the night and gone into harbor. But this was an illusion. Slowly, as the fog cleared a little, she came into view again but farther out. Soon two figures could be seen at work on her deck. There was the sound of hammering, of metal on metal, and then of something heavy falling on to the deck. At once the watchers on shore were half blinded by a flash of yellow light that enveloped the ship from end to end. The explosion that followed the flash was like a single crack from a giant whip. In a moment the ship, except for a dark line at water level, was lost to sight behind the flames.
Two bodies were washed ashore in the bay. They were stripped to the waist, bare-footed and black with flash burns. The right arm of one body was raised to the forehead as if shielding the eyes from some bright light. The other man wore a gold chain round his neck. The tanker burned for nine days and nights.
24. What prevented the tanker from sailing into harbor?
A. She was waiting for a suitable tide. B. Most of her crew had gone ashore.
C. She had run aground on sand. D. Her engines had broken down.
25. The people who were watching from the beach ______.
A. realized the trouble but could do nothing about it
B. offered to help without knowing what to do
C. did not know there was anything wrong with the ship
D. did not want to put themselves in any danger
26. Why did the seaman keep moving about?
A. Because the deck was uncomfortable to stand on.
B. Because that was the best way to keep his balance.
C. Because he was practicing some kind of dance.
D. Because he had to pretend he was working.
27. The air that rose from the ship was “visible” because ______.
A. it might easily have caught fire B. it could be seen
C. it had a nasty smell D. it was mixed with spray from the waves
28. How did the mist affect the situation?
A. It forced the ship to move farther from the shore.
B. It made the seamen’s work harder.
C. It allowed the ship to move into the harbor.
D. For a time it hid the ship from sight.
29. The explosion occurred on the tanker when ______.
A. she was unloading her oil B. the fog began to clear
C. the two seamen were working D. she was struck by lightning
30. What happened to the two seamen?
A. They were blown off the ship and swam ashore.
B. They were killed in the explosion.
C. They survived but were badly burned.
D. They died shortly after reaching the beach.

A
For years, I kept a careful distance from the people around me. Living in a busy city apartment, I learned to move through shared spaces quietly. ____31____ It wasn’t that I disliked others; keeping to myself just seemed easier. Independence mattered to me, and needing no one felt like part of being a grown-up.
____32____ Without warning, the power went out. The building fell into complete darkness. I sat alone in my apartment, the cold air pressing in as my phone went dead. The silence was familiar. Yet this time, it seemed different. Less comforting. More exposed.
A soft knock broke the stillness. It was my neighbour from 3B, someone I recognised but hardly knew. She held a candle and mentioned that a few residents were gathering in the hallway and invited me to join them. I hesitated. Staying alone felt safe, but something felt unsettled. ____33____
People sat on the floor, sharing blankets, tea, and quiet conversation. I listened more than I spoke. The man I had once assumed was unfriendly turned out to be a retired doctor with a dry sense of humour. ____34____ I realized how easily distance can turn into detachment (疏离).
When the lights finally returned, the hallway looked the same, but it felt different. I didn’t suddenly become outgoing, nor did I abandon my need for space. ____35____ It’s about knowing when to let them in. Now, when I step into the elevator, I don’t automatically lower my eyes. Sometimes, I look up.
A. After a moment, I stepped outside.
B. I avoided eye contact and unnecessary conversation.
C. I began to question my decision to join the conversation.
D. Most neighbours in the building kept to themselves as well.
E. As the night progressed, my long-held belief began to loosen.
F. But I understood something new: maturity isn’t about shutting others out.
G. That belief was challenged one night when a violent storm swept through the city.
B
Someone makes a statement, and you know it is not true. Most of us can think of those times when we have smiled and nodded, likely to avoid “making waves”. Sometimes, knowing when to stay quiet is the smart choice. ____36____But what about the vast number of times when not speaking your truth influences your emotional health? Sometimes, silence can quickly backfire and damage your relationships.
When you keep silent repeatedly, it may feel like you are avoiding conflict. ____37____We all know that the “bottle it up and implode or explode later” plan does not work well for any of us. Every unspoken thought becomes a brick in the wall that grows between you and the other person.
____38____If you consistently nod along passively, others will notice when your actions don’t agree with your words. They may wonder whether you are holding back or not being sincere. If you hold back to avoid hurting feelings or spare tension, the result may be the opposite.
Your view matters. By staying silent, you lose opportunities to express your feelings. ____39____But later, if you unearth how you really feel, they may feel betrayed (背叛)that you did not open up about your true feelings earlier on. Continued silence may lead others to assume that you are not interested or that you are emotionally unavailable.
While silence sometimes may feel like caution and be wise, too much of it gets in the way of closeness and trust in relationships. ____40____
A. You’re actually building it up.
B. The growing doubt leads to distance.
C. Others may trust you because you are honest.
D. Trust comes from honesty more than it does from agreement.
E. Speaking up creates connection and conveys a sense of caring in others.
F. This is especially true when the other person tends to get annoyed easily.
G. Others may think your silence is an agreement with what they are saying.

A
Getting into college is a big step for high school graduates, and it comes with a lot of changes.
1. Who is this passage most probably written for?
A. College teachers.
B. University graduates.
C. High school teachers.

A. Divide it into smaller, more achievable ones.
B. Reward oneself for each goal one has set.
C. Purchase a clear, updated roadmap.
D. Push oneself to an upper level.
3. One of the suggested ways to enhance your interpersonal skills is to ________.
A. prepare complicated questions
B. try on someone else’s shoes
C. listen to others carefully
D. take advantage of others
4. What is the key to successful college study according to the author?
A. Being well-organized.
B. Being well-informed.
C. Effective reading skills.
D. Reliable research methods.
5. To learn how to manage money, the first thing to do is________.
A. save money for financial investment
B. estimate one’s income and expenses
C. set aside money for fun activities
D. open a personal bank account

B 7. C 8. A 9. C

根据第一段中“When I was a child I was often told what not to eat. ‘You don’t want to get fat’ was on constant repeat throughout my childhood. It really messed up my relationship with food — something that took me years to overcome. (当我还是个孩子的时候,我经常被告知什么不能吃。“你不想变胖”这句话在我整个童年时期不断重复。这真的搞砸了我与食物的关系 —— 这是我花了多年时间才克服的问题)”可知,作者童年时被灌输的饮食观念对其产生了负面影响,由此可推断出,作者对自己童年时被喂养的方式持批判态度。故选B项。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“According to Charlotte Markey, a professor of psychology, food is one of the rare subjects where, as parents, saying less is more. ‘There are so many things in parenting that are good to talk through, but I’m not convinced that food is one of them,’ she says. ‘It just creates some worries and insecurities in kids that aren’t necessarily healthy.’ (根据心理学教授夏洛特·马基的说法,食物是为数不多的家长说得少反而更好的话题之一。“在育儿方面,有很多事情值得深入讨论,但我不认为食物是其中之一,”她说。“这只会给孩子们带来一些不必要的担忧和不安全感,这并不健康。”)”可知,马基不赞成家长和孩子过多谈论食物相关的话题,而向孩子解释吃零食的风险属于谈论食物的话题,所以马基不会赞成。故选C项。
【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Instead, she recommends applying a well known concept among nutrition experts called the ‘Division of Responsibility,’ where parents provide a variety of mostly healthy foods to their kids at fixed times, and the kids themselves decide what and how much they want to consume — even if that means occasionally eating more cookies than carrots. (相反,她建议应用营养专家中一个著名的概念,即‘责任划分’,在这个概念中,家长在固定的时间为孩子提供各种主要是健康的食物,而孩子自己决定想吃什么和吃多少 —— 即使这意味着偶尔吃的饼干比胡萝卜多)”可知,根据“责任划分”,孩子应该自己做饮食决策。故选A项。
根据最后一段中“I’ve been trying out these strategies and I’ve found that when I’m less restrictive, they do make better decisions. (我一直在尝试这些策略,我发现当我不那么严格限制时,他们确实会做出更好的决策)”可知,孩子们确实会做出更好的决策,所以作者会认为自己所遵循的策略是可行的。故选C项。
D 11. D 12. B 13. A
根据第一段“I used to believe that only words could catch the essence (本质) of the human soul. The literary works contained such distinct stories that they shaped the way we saw the world. Words were what composed the questions we sought to uncover and the answers to those questions themselves. Words were everything.(我曾经相信,只有语言才能捕捉到人类灵魂的本质。文学作品包含了如此独特的故事,它们塑造了我们看待世界的方式。文字构成了我们试图揭示的问题,以及这些问题本身的答案)” 可推知,在第一段作者主要强调了语言的表达力量,故选 D。
【11题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“There was something mysterious but attractive about the equation. The left side was unchangeable, objective: it contained a number that ended. On the right was something endless, number repeating itself limitless times. Yet, somehow, these two opposed things were connected by an equal sign.(这个方程式神秘而迷人。左边是不变的、客观的:里面有一个没有尽头的数字。右边是无穷无尽的东西,数字无限重复。然而,不知怎么的,这两个相反的东西被一个等号连接起来了)”可知,作者觉得这个等式很迷人,因为数字虽然不同,但是却被等号连接起来了。由此可知,让作者觉得这个等式迷人的是两个不同的数相等的方式。故选D。
【12题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词下文“The left side of the equation represents that sometimes life itself is so unchangeable and so clear. The concrete, whole number of the day when you were born and the day when you would die. But then there is that gap in between life and death.(等式的左边表示有时候生命本身是如此的不可改变,如此的清晰。你出生的日期和你死亡的日期的具体整数。但是生与死之间有一段距离)”可知,作者躺在床上思考的是这个等式与我们的存在是多么相似,划线词paralleled的意思是“与……十分相似”,和 mirrored意思相近,故选B。
【13题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第四段“My teacher answered my question by presenting another equation (等式): 1= 0. 9, which could also be expressed as 1=0. 99999… repeating itself without ever ending.(我的老师给出了另一个等式:1=0. 9,也可以表示为1=0. 99999… 不断重复,没有尽头)”和第五段“There was something mysterious but attractive about the equation. The left side was unchangeable, objective: it contained a number that ended. On the right was something endless, number repeating itself limitless times. Yet, somehow, these two opposed things were connected by an equal sign.(这个方程式神秘而迷人。左边是不变的、客观的:里面有一个没有尽头的数字。右边是无穷无尽的东西,数字无限重复。然而,不知怎么的,这两个相反的东西被一个等号连接起来了)”可知,本文主要讲的是作者在数学课上学了一个等式后的一些感悟。由此可知,最恰当的标题是A 选项 “The Perfect Equation(完美的等式)”。故选A。
B 15. A 16. D 17. B

根据第一段中的“Rangers found the bag within hours. “But that can be all it takes,” says Ashley. “I’m sure some crickets got a bit of the snack.”(护林员在几小时内就找到了薯片袋。“但这可能就足够造成破坏了,”阿什利说。“我肯定有些蟋蟀已经吃到了一点零食。”)”可知,尽管护林员很快找到了薯片袋,但部分蟋蟀已经食用了零食,薯片袋带来的污染影响已经产生,即破坏已经造成。故选B项。
【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Leaving waste introduces animals to an unnatural diet and alters their behavior with sometimes disastrous results.(丢弃的垃圾让动物接触到非自然的食物,改变了它们的行为,有时还会导致灾难性的后果)”可知,公共土地上的外来垃圾会导致动物的行为发生改变。故选A项。
根据第五段中的“The risk to sensitive ecosystems isn’t obvious. “It’s easy to think, oh, there’s wildflowers over there. I shouldn’t step on that,” says Blye, but these tiny ecosystems full of microscopic organisms essential to desert life provide many benefits including reducing the risk of erosion (侵蚀) and helping absorb rainfall, and can take hundreds of years to return to its original state.(敏感生态系统面临的危险并不明显。
根据第二段中的““When you look at the numbers, it’s incredible,” says Watts, head of the Leave No Trace Center in Colorado, an organization aimed at minimizing human impact on nature.(“当你看到这些数字时,这是令人难以置信的,”瓦茨说,他是科罗拉多州“不留痕迹中心”的负责人,该组织旨在最大限度地减少人类对自然的影响)”以及全文围绕人类丢弃垃圾、偏离步道等行为对生态系统的破坏展开可知,文章传达的核心是我们在野外活动时应做到不留痕迹,减少对自然的影响。故选B项。

A. they didn't adequately check their users' registration
B. they organized photo trips to attract more youngsters

She said social media firms were exposing children to major emotional risks, with some youngsters starting secondary school ill-equipped to cope with the tremendous pressure they faced online.
Some social apps were popular among the children even though they supposedly require users to be at least 13.
根据文章第九段children compared themselves to others online in a way that was "hugely damaging in terms of their self-identity, in terms of their confidence, but also in terms of their ability to develop themselves".
It’s also hugely important for parents to know which apps their children are using.
Children as young as ten are becoming dependent on social media for their sense of self-worth, a major study warned.
Some social apps were popular among the children even though they supposedly require users to be at least 13.

C 25. C 26. A 27. B 28. D 29. C 30. B

根据第三段“Slowly, as the fog cleared a little, she came into view again but farther out. Soon two figures could be seen at work on her deck. There was the sound of hammering, of metal on metal, and then of something heavy falling on to the deck. At once the watchers on shore were half blinded by a flash of yellow light that enveloped the ship from end to end.(随着雾气稍稍散去,船再次出现,位置更远了。很快甲板上能看到两个人在作业。传来敲打、金属碰撞声,接着重物落到甲板上。岸上的观察者立刻被笼罩整艘船的黄色闪光晃得几乎看不见东西)”可知,爆炸发生在两名水手作业的时候。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“Two bodies were washed ashore in the bay. They were stripped to the waist, bare-footed and black with flash burns.(两具尸体被冲到海湾岸边。他们赤着上身、赤脚,体表被爆炸灼伤发黑)”可知,两人在爆炸中丧生。

F 37. A 38. D 39. G 40. E

They may wonder whether you are holding back or not being sincere.(如果你一直被动地点头同意,当你的行动与你的话不一致时,别人会注意到。
根据上文“By staying silent, you lose opportunities to express your feelings.(保持沉默,你就失去了表达自己感受的机会)”以及下文“But later, if you unearth how you really feel, they may feel betrayed (背叛)that you did not open up about your true feelings earlier on.(但后来,如果你说出自己真实的感受,他们可能会因为你没有早点说出真实感受而感到被背叛)”可知,此处应体现沉默时他人的误解,G选项“Others may think your silence is an agreement with what they are saying.(别人可能会认为你的沉默是同意他们所说的话)”既呼应上文“沉默不表达感受”,又为下文“后来说出真实感受被认为背叛”做铺垫,符合语境。故选G项。
根据上文“While silence sometimes may feel like caution and be wise, too much of it gets in the way of closeness and trust in relationships.(虽然沉默有时可能显得谨慎且明智,但过多的沉默会阻碍人际关系中的亲密感和信任)”可知,此处应承接上文,给出正确做法,E选项“Speaking up creates connection and conveys a sense of caring in others.(主动表达能建立联系,并向他人传递关心)”与上文“过多沉默阻碍亲密和信任”形成对比,给出解决办法,符合语境。故选E项。
