九年级上册英语月考试题 一、阅读理解(共25小题,1-5每小题1分,6-25每小题2分,共计45分) A In August 2025, Pang Zhongwang, a student from Tsinghua University, received the “Touching China” Award for the year 2024. His life story has moved and encouraged many people. Pang grew up in a poor family. His father was badly ill, and his mother was born with a serious illness and could not walk. Pang himself was born with a heart problem. Life was very hard. As a child, he often went to borrow money to pay for his mother’s medicine and collected old things to help his family pay back money. But he never lost hope. In 2017, he got high scores in the college entrance exam and entered Tsinghua University. There he found his interest in doing research. He failed many times, but he never gave up. His mother gave him the name “Zhongwang”. She expressed her great hope through it. Pang said, “My mother smiles every day. Why should I be sad?” Sadly, his mother passed away in 2020. At that time, he just got a chance to study for a higher degree at the same university. Now, Pang has written research papers and has inventions under his name; he wants to use science to serve his country. He even helped a young girl change to the subject she loved. His story brings light and hope to others. As the words of the “Touching China” Award said, “You left hard times behind, smiled at life, and walked ahead with strength.” Pang’s journey tells us that with a strong heart and hope, we can live up to the hopes of those who love us and make our own future bright. 1. Why did Pang go to borrow money? A. To pay for his own education. B. To buy old things for his family. C. To pay for his mother’s medicine. 2. What does the underlined word “it” refer to? A. Hard work and hope can change life. B. No one can succeed overnight. C. Awards are important to everyone. B It may sound like a magic story that plants can actually sense sounds around them. A new study by scientists at MIT found that rice seeds (种子) can “hear” the sound of raindrops and use the information to “decide” when to grow. It’s not completely new. Earlier studies have already shown some plants could respond to (反应) the environment. They can sense the sounds when caterpillars eat leaves, and when bees fly past. The new study shows that plants are even smarter than we thought. To make sure the seeds respond to sound instead of water, scientists did a test. They chose to focus on rice seeds because rice is usually planted rice is usually planted in water. Thousands of rice seeds were put in water. In this way, all of the seeds could get enough water to grow. Some stayed in quiet water, while others sensed man-made raindrops. The result was surprising. The seeds that “hear” raindrop sounds grew 30 to 40 percent faster than the ones in quiet water. This faster growth helps seeds live better in nature. Scientists also found out why this happens. Falling raindrops create clear vibrations in the water. Inside rice seeds, there are tiny parts called statoliths keeping balance. These parts move quickly when they feel the vibrations, which tells the seeds to start growing earlier. The scientists believe that sensing rain sounds may help seeds make sure they’re in a good place to grow. They think this special ability is not just for rice. 6. What can we learn from paragraph 1? A. Plants have “mouths”. B. Insects have magical power. C. Rice seeds have “ears”. 7. Why did scientists put all seeds in water? A. To test their quality. B. To count their number. C. To set them in the same condition. 8. Which picture could show the result of the scientific test? A. B. C. 9. What does the underlined word “vibrations” probably mean? A. Shakes B. Scenes. C. Smells. 10. What will be probably talked about next? A. Whether other plant seeds share the ability. B. Why rice seeds live better in some places. C. How plant seeds keep perfect balance. C The Ig Nobel Prizes, inspired by the famous Nobel Prizes, honor achievements that make people laugh, and then think. The 2025 Ig Nobel Prizes were announced on September 18. The Biology Prize was awarded to 11 scientists for painting zebra stripes (条纹) on cows. They wanted to see if the stripes could make cows less likely to be bitten by insects. Insect bites hurt cows and make them eat less and produce less milk. Scientists have long guessed zebra stripes help keep insects away. It appears they were right—cows that were painted with stripes attracted fewer biting flies than those with no stripes. The Literature Prize went to the late US doctor William B. Bean. He recorded and studied the growth speed of one of his fingernails (指甲) over 35 years. When he started at 32, his left thumbnail grew by 0.123mm each day. When he was 67, the nail grew by only 0.095 mm in a day. The Nutrition Prize was given to a team of researchers. They found out which kind of pizza rainbow lizards (蜥蜴) prefer at a holiday resort in Togo. During the study, the researchers offered the lizards both four-cheese pizza and four-season pizza. After watching closely, they found the lizards had a preference for four-cheese pizza. A group from India took home the Engineering Design Prize. They designed a special shoe shelf to deal with stinky shoes. There is an ultraviolet (紫外线的) lamp in the shelf. The light cannot be seen by people, but it can kill the bacteria (细菌), making shoes smell less unpleasant. 11. Scientists painted zebra stripes on cows mainly to________. A. find out why cows produce less milk B. see if the stripes could help reduce insect bites on cows C. help cows produce more milk directly 12. Which prize was awarded to an individual not a team? A. The Biology Prize. B. The Literature Prize. C. The Nutrition Prize. 13. What can we know about the study in Paragraph 4? A. Rainbow lizards preferred four-cheese pizza. B. It was carried out on a farm with cows and zebras. C. It aimed to find out the healthiest food for lizards. 14. What does the underlined word “stinky” in the last paragraph mean? One summer afternoon, he came back from the park upset. He said a group of teenagers were in the park all the time. They were noisy, which made it hard for him to enjoy the peace. He stopped going to the park for a few days. However, he missed the walks too much, so he went there again. One day, it was getting dark and John still didn’t return to the care home. I was growing increasingly concerned. I ran to find him. As I got to the park, John was sitting on a bench (长椅) with a group of teenagers. They gathered (聚集) around him, carefully listening to every word John was saying. He was excited to talk about the story of his life with his listeners. ▲ Anyway, John cleared up the misunderstanding. They met at the park nearly every day. After the summer holiday, those teenagers stuck to visiting him once a week until John passed away. It was a really moving friendship. What can we learn from the story? A. Old people need more care. B. Friendship can grow across ages. C. It is hard to keep a true friendship. E If your dog gets excited when another dog moves across the TV screen or barks at the sound of a doorbell in a movie, you are not alone. But what are dogs actually experiencing when looking at the screen? Can they really understand what’s happening on the screen? ____21____ The study was carried out by researcher Jeffrey Katz and his team in early 2024. ____22____ The researchers asked questions about their dogs’ personalities(性格) and television viewing habits. They wanted to learn what draws a dog’s attention to the screen and why it makes some reactions(反应). The study showed that a dog’s reaction to television has little to do with their age or gender(性别). Instead, their personality is the key factor. ____23____ One playful dog even looked behind the TV to find the “lost” animal! For anxious dogs, the sound of a doorbell or a car, even if it’s just part of a movie, can be stressful. ____24____ But they discovered that every dog is different—what they enjoy depends mostly on their own personality. So next time you watch television, pay attention to your dog. Notice what catches its attention. ____25____ Does it get excited by wildlife documentaries? Does it bark at advertisements? Or does it follow every moving object on the screen? Its reactions might just show something new about its personality. A. They surveyed 453 dog owners. B. Ask yourself the following questions. C. It is a beautiful testament (证明) to a mother’s devotion (关爱) to her child. Liu, a young man from Shaanxi, shared his story on the Internet. When he was in junior high school, he really wanted a branded (名牌的) schoolbag like his classmates. But his family couldn’t afford one at that time. Instead of letting him feel sad, his mother—who had learned sewing (缝纫) since she was 16—decided to make him a special one. She carefully hand-stitched (手工缝制) a logo of that popular sports brand onto his old schoolbag and even added pretty flower patterns to make it look more stylish. Liu was thrilled when he saw the redone (翻新的) bag. He treasured it not only because it looked cool, but also because it was made with love. As he grew older, he understood more deeply how much effort and care his mother had put into the gift. Recently, Liu found a photo of the schoolbag on his phone and shared the story on social media. The photo quickly received over 10 million likes. Even the company of that brand noticed the story and left a comment praising his mother’s skill. They said they would send her a gift.
