W: I’ve done some primary reading, but I’m honestly a bit confused. There’s so much information out there, and I can’t tell which sources are reliable.
M: Same here. I went to the library yesterday, but all the relevant books were already checked out. And the online articles I found are either too general or too academic for our level.
W: Exactly! What are we going to do?
M: I was thinking — instead of trying to cover the whole Silk Road, what if we narrow it down to one specific city, like Dunhuang? That way we can go deeper with fewer sources.
W: That’s a smart idea! But we’ve already submitted our topic proposal to Mr. Johnson. Do you think he’ll allow us to change it at this late stage?
M: I can talk to him after class today. He’s pretty flexible, and I think he’d prefer a focused project over a shallow one. Besides, I’ve already found a documentary on Dunhuang that has excellent references.
W: Great! If he agrees, I can handle the art and religion part while you focus on the trade and economics side. We can meet on Friday to combine our findings.
M: Perfect. Let’s cross our fingers that Mr. Johnson says yes.

【原文】 Welcome to today’s health section. Have you ever heard of the “Power of Ten” exercise? It’s the latest trend in the fitness world, and it’s surprisingly simple. The idea is to choose just one simple exercise, like push-ups, and do ten repetitions, ten times a day. That’s it. Instead of spending an hour at the gym, you spread these mini-workouts throughout your daily routine. The key is consistency, not intensity. This approach is especially helpful for students who are desk-bound for long hours. It improves blood circulation, keeps your energy levels up and enhances your work proficiency. Before you start, make sure you do a light warm-up to avoid any muscle injury. And remember, if you have any underlying health conditions, it’s always best to consult with your doctor first. Now, let’s start with our first push-up of the day!

At the age of 32, Carlos worked as a full-time waiter in a small downtown restaurant. For years, he thought his life would stay unchanged forever — busy with endless table orders and low-paid daily work, with no chance to try new things or realize personal dreams. He used to believe he was not smart enough to learn difficult knowledge, so he never planned any long-term self-improvement.
Everything changed on a rainy afternoon when a foreign tourist tried to ask for food recommendations in English. Unable to understand a single word, Carlos felt extremely embarrassed and disappointed about himself. That unpleasant experience pushed him to make a life-changing decision: he would start learning English in his spare time no matter how hard it was.
Without money for expensive training courses, Carlos made full use of small free time every day. He kept an English notebook in his uniform pocket and memorized new words while waiting for customers or having short breaks between meals. After closing the restaurant late at night, he watched free English learning videos online for one hour before sleep. In the first six months, he met lots of difficulties: confusing grammar rules, easy-to-forget vocabulary and weak listening skills made him want to give up many times. But the memory of that awkward day always pulled him back to keep going.
Two years later, great changes took place in Carlos’s life. Not only could he communicate fluently with foreign guests, but he also began posting short English stories about his working experiences online. Gradually, he gained hundreds of followers from different countries. What surprised him most was a part-time online translator job offer he received last winter.
This long learning journey brought far more than language skills. Carlos realized the biggest discovery was himself: he was capable of overcoming challenges and creating new possibilities as long as he held on to his goals.

As heatwaves intensify across Indian cities, Jaipur is piloting a low-energy urban cooling solution that challenges conventional dependence on air conditioning. A recently operational net-zero cooling station in the city offers an insight into how public infrastructure (基础设施) can respond to extreme heat without adding to energy demand or carbon emissions.
Located along a high-footfall urban passage, the facility has been designed as an open-access cooling space for pedestrians (行人) and informal workers — groups most exposed to rising temperatures. What distinguishes the project is its reliance on passive and climate-responsive design rather than mechanical cooling.
The structure uses solar panels to power basic systems such as fans and lighting, while evaporative (蒸发) cooling techniques — like water-based air circulation — help lower surrounding temperatures. Traditional materials such as khus (vetiver grass) panels are used to naturally cool incoming air, demonstrating how traditional knowledge can be integrated into modern urban infrastructure. The net-zero cooling station also includes architectural features like a wind tower, which enhances airing by allowing hot air to rise and escape, creating a continuous flow of cooler air inside the structure.
Urban climate experts see this as a critical step towards addressing “cooling equity” — the idea that access to temperature comfort should not be limited by income. With air conditioning still unaffordable for large sections of the population, especially informal workers, such decentralized solutions offer immediate relief without increasing electricity consumption or emissions.
Studies indicate that Jaipur’s cooling energy demand could nearly increase three times over the next decade if current trends continue, placing enormous pressure on power infrastructure and worsening urban emissions. The net-zero cooling station model, by contrast, demonstrates how cities can reduce reliance on energy-intensive systems by combining passive design, renewable energy, and localized infrastructure.
However, experts caution that pilot projects alone will not be sufficient. The roll-out of such models requires integration into city planning frameworks, sustained funding, and collaboration across agencies.
28. What is the main innovation of Jaipur’s net-zero cooling station?
A. Advanced air-conditioning technology. B. Passive design and renewable energy.
C. The first air-conditioned public space. D. A small sum of money from the users.
29. Which traditional material is used in the cooling station to naturally cool incoming air?
A. Bamboo panels. B. Clay bricks. C. Vetiver grass panels. D. Recycled plastic sheets.
30. What does the term “cooling equity” in paragraph 4 mean in the text?
A. A new tech to cut the cost of air conditioning greatly.
B. All people deserve equal access to comfortable cooling.
C. A free fan distribution program for low-income families.
D. One’s income decides whether he can enjoy cooling comfort.
31. What can be inferred about the future of this cooling station model?
A. It costs too much to apply elsewhere.
B. It will spread to all major Indian cities.
C. It will replace air conditioning in five years.
D. It needs careful planning and steady funding.
【答案】28. B 29. C 30. B 31. D

D
For years, scientists have looked to nature for engineering solutions. Animals that climb upright surfaces with ease — geckos (壁虎) speeding smooth glass, cats grabbing rough tree bark — have become unlikely heroes in the world of robotics.
A recent study published in Scientific Reports presents the design of a four-leg robot capable of climbing rough surfaces. The robot’s body and motion mechanism were inspired by the gecko, while its legs took inspiration from how cats climb trees and grip rough surfaces. Each leg is equipped with seven curved claws (爪) that move independently on the wall without overlapping, allowing the robot to grasp and climb with remarkable stability.
The arms were designed in a shape at the same level as the robot’s body. This arrangement keeps the robot’s center of gravity close to the wall surface, enhancing grabbing force and reducing the risk of slipping or falling. A motion algorithm (算法) inspired by the gecko controls the robot’s movements, and a model was developed to calculate displacement and position.
The researchers tested the robot on rough surfaces at grades of 75°and 85°. In 15 trials on a 75° grade, the robot achieved a 93% success rate. Its climbing speed ranged from 20 to 60 centimeters per minute — slow but steady, just like the animals that inspired it.
Why does this matter? These robots can perform tasks that are too dangerous or expensive for humans. They can be used for inspecting tall buildings, conducting monitoring in risky environments, or assisting in search and rescue operations after earthquakes or fires. By copying the way animals grab uneven surfaces, scientists are creating machines that can go where people cannot.
The research represents a growing field called biomimetics — learning from nature’s designs to solve human problems. From geckos to cats, animals are providing blueprints for technologies that could one day save lives.
32. What does the underlined word “grip” in paragraph 2 most likely mean?
A. Slide gently. B. Skip easily. C. Hold tightly. D. Drill deeply.
33. How did the researchers test the robot’s performance?
A. By having it climb an even glass wall.
B. By using it in a real search and rescue operation.
C. By comparing it with other robots in a competition.
D. By experimenting on rough surfaces at different grades.
34. What does paragraph 5 mainly focus on?
A. The possible applications of the new robots.
B. The potential challenges of scientists.
C. The great demand for the robots.
D. Possible directions for further research.
35. What can be inferred from the text?
A. Robots are capable of every task. B. Animals can top humans one day.
C. Inspirations can be drawn from nature. D. Technology all originates from nature.
【答案】32. C 33. D 34. A 35. C

How to Reshape Your Relationship with Technology
It’s that time of year again: detox (排毒) season. While many of us will be enjoying Dry January, others will be performing “digital detoxes” — staying off their devices to kick off the year with renewed energy. ____36____ Digital detoxes don’t work, said author Paul Leonardi, because they’re temporary fixes that don’t address our underlying tendencies and tech habits.
What does work? Leonardi focuses on reshaping our relationship with technology in the long term. ____37____ Think of Leonardi as a therapist (治疗师) and his book a sofa on which you sit with your partner.
“A therapist doesn’t say, ‘here is the answer,’” Leonardi said. “A therapist tells you: ‘Here are a bunch of different things you could do, and which one will work best depends on your particular situation.’” ____38____ It can help you develop healthier tech habits so that breaking up with your phone isn’t necessary in the first place.
The first big symptom (症状) of digital exhaustion is unconcern: “I don’t really care about doing this job very well.” ____39____ “No matter how much I do, there’s always going to be more. I could spend all day and my email would never go down.” The third is the irresistible feeling: “I know this is putting me in a bad mood and I should step away, but I can’t.”
Fortunately, Leonardi offers practical strategies. Firstly, turn off your self-view — we pay undue attention to ourselves and worry about how we’re presenting. Besides, when you pick up your phone, have an end goal in mind. ____40____ Moreover, pair intense digital work with physical activities — the more people do that, the less they want to get back on their devices.
A. That’s really what his approach is all about.
B. Another symptom is a sense of hopelessness.
C. Most people find it easy to quit their phones for a whole month.
D. But what happens when the detox is over and notifications return?
E. The problem is only getting worse as more devices enter our lives.
F. He suggests turning off typing indicators to control your visibility online.
G. Say to yourself: “I’m picking up my phone because I need to check the weather.”
【答案】36. D 37. A 38. F 39. B 40. G

Fashion is often defined by global runways, luxury houses and seasonal trends. But in the mountains of Southwest China’s Guizhou province, a different vision is taking shape — one ____56____ (root) in craftsmanship and community.
For designer Yang Chunlin, fashion is not something imported from Paris, Milan, London or New York, but something ____57____ grows out of local ethnic culture.
That ____58____ (believe) sits at the heart of “Village T”, or “Village Runway”, a grassroots fashion initiative Yang launched two years ago. It began as a small runway in an open field, where a ridge (垄) of farmland became the catwalk and villagers ____59____ (step) naturally into the role of models. As the project expanded, it later moved into larger cultural spaces, eventually ____60____ (appear) on national platforms such as ____61____ 2026 Spring Festival Gala and in international cultural exchange events, including the Paris Fair in France.
“There ____62____ (be) no resources, no team, no experience, and many voices of doubt,” Yang recalled the early days.
He said many locals ____63____ (initial) believed fashion had nothing to do with them. “People in the mountains have rich culture and craftsmanship, but we often lack confidence and underestimate what we’re capable ____64____,” he added.
For Yang, that perception gap was precisely why the project mattered — to create a stage for people from his hometown ____65____ (see) on their own terms.
As “Village T” grew, it became a platform for showing Guizhou’s intangible cultural heritage, particularly Miao embroidery and Dong brocade.
【答案】56. rooted

Photography has long been my favorite hobby and I’m always eager to record beautiful moments of nature with my camera.
One morning, I was walking slowly along the lake near my neighborhood, expecting to capture a good moment, when I heard a weak and painful cry coming from the thick grass by the bank. Curious and concerned, I walked closer and found a little white egret (白鹭) trapped in an abandoned boat. Its wing was badly hurt, and it was struggling helplessly, unable to escape. Out of pity, I tried every means to free it without causing further injury. Finally, I rescued the poor creature and took it home temporarily.
My mother works at a local animal hospital. She gave the egret simple and careful treatment immediately. Meanwhile, I used a large cardboard box to build a warm nest for it on the balcony. With good care, the egret gradually regained its strength, but recovered very slowly from the injury to its wing.
The egret’s pure white feathers and elegant postures fascinated me deeply. Suddenly an idea occurred to me: If I could keep the rare and beautiful wild bird and take a series of exquisite (精美的) photos of it when it grew bigger, I could participate in the city’s photography competition and definitely win the grand prize. The prize money was exactly enough to cover the cost of my long-awaited professional camera. However, staring at the egret’s clear eyes and recalling how it struggled in pain before the rescue, I hesitated. Wild animals should belong in nature instead of being personal possessions. Finally, I firmly gave up this idea and decided to release it into the wild after it fully recovered.
One afternoon, I returned home after school as usual. Shockingly, the cardboard nest was empty and the window was wide open. Thinking the egret must have flown away alone but hadn’t fully recovered from the injury, I felt a sharp sense of loss and worry.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Moments later, I received a call from my mother.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A month later, my mother and I returned to the lake to set the egret free.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Moments later, I received a call from my mother. She told me the egret was safe. She had found it near the hospital and brought it back for further treatment. Relieved, I rushed to the clinic. Seeing the bird resting quietly in a warm cage, its injured wing properly bandaged, I felt my worry melt away. Over the next few weeks, I visited it every day, watching its wing heal and its strength return. The idea of winning the photography prize gradually faded. Instead, I felt a deeper sense of fulfillment — one that came from caring for a life rather than capturing it.
A month later, my mother and I returned to the lake to set the egret free. As I opened the cage, the egret hesitated for a moment, then stepped onto the grass. It stretched its wings, now fully healed, and took off gracefully into the sky. Watching it fly freely, I felt a surge of joy and pride. I realized that true beauty lies not in possessing something rare, but in giving it back to where it belongs. That day, I took my best photo ever — not with my camera, but with my heart.

I've done some primary reading, but i'm honestly a bit confused. There's so much information out there and I can't tell which sources are reliable. Same here, I went to the library yesterday, but all the relevant books were already checked out. And the online articles I found are either too general or too academic for our level. Exactly what are we going to do? I was . thinking, instead of trying to cover the whole silk road, what if we narrow IT down to one specific city, like, done hong, that way we can go deeper with fewer sources. It's the latest trend in the fitness world, and it's surprisingly simple. The idea is to choose just one simple exercise like pushups and do ten repetitions ten times a day that's IT. Instead of spending an hour at the gym, you spread these many workouts throughout your daily routine. The key is consistency, not intensity. This approach is especially helpful for students who are deskbound for long hours. IT improves blood circulation, keeps your energy levels up, and enhance your work proficiency. Before you start, make sure you do a light warm up to avoid any muscle injury. And remember, if you have any underlying health conditions, it's always best to consult with your doctor first.
24. What made Carlos decide to start learning English?
A. His wish to find a well-paid job.
B. An embarrassing experience with a tourist.
C. The advice given by his foreign customers.
D. His desire to quit the boring job as a waiter.
25. How did Carlos learn English?
A. By borrowing textbooks from a library.
B. By asking foreign customers to teach him daily.
C. By using his spare time and free online resources.
D. By memorizing new words when serving customers.
26. What did Carlos benefit most from English learning?
A. He got a part-time online job.
B. He became the manager of the restaurant.
C. He had better awareness of his potential.
D. He earned great fame by opening classes.
27. Which words can best describe Carlos’s growth experience?
A. Risky and eventful. B. Inspiring and fruitful.
C. Relaxing and unforgettable. D. Unlucky and stormy.
