①Some people think creativity is making something completely new, so they do not think of themselves as creative ones. However, some other people think creativity can just be expressing themselves through everyday acts and they are born creative because it is not an all-or-nothing quality or skill.
②Whether or not we realize it, we all have the ability to express creativity. Sometimes the path to creative productivity is being willing to do something different.
③Are you someone who loves to read comics? Perhaps it is time you created one of your own. Don’t worry if you cannot draw very well or feel that you cannot write humorous lines for characters. Nobody says this is an exam! You only have to please yourself to gain the satisfaction that you are trying something new, all on your own. If you feel comfortable, you can of course share it with your loved ones, or post it on social media.
④Are you someone who likes to express yourself in writing? Try writing a blog. This is like the new version of a diary. In your blog, you can write about your thoughts, opinions, and experiences. You can also write stories or plays, if you feel up to it! The blog provides you with a platform to create something new every day, in written form.
⑤Are you someone who likes to be alone? Now, think about the things that make you happy. Find a small place in your room, or any place in your home, where you can spend time with yourself. It can be a small corner next to your bed or a wall. Your corner can have a poster of your favourite rock star or photos of your friends. You can also pick a guitar if you like to play instruments, or a few storybooks if you love reading. Some of you may like flowers, candles or pretty things. Decorate your area with your favourite things in any way you like. That is creativity! And if you do feel bored with this, you can change, add, or remove something.

There are many problems that we young people have to face when we stop being children. At this age all feelings and emotions are very strong. All problems seem very important.
The first terrible thing is misunderstanding from the dearest people—parents. They do not understand why we need to buy things we want to buy, listen to this type of music or spend most of our spare time with our friends. We do not want to hurt their feelings but they should try to understand us.
The same misunderstanding we face sometimes comes from the side of the teachers. They think that youth is given for studying. But a person who only studies is dull (无趣的). Some teachers do not understand that youth is the time for us to learn about people and about ourselves, to play and to try things. They try to keep us away from all dangers in our lives. But teenagers need adults to take them seriously and give them a friendly hand, not a punishment.
▲ I think young people need to have pocket money for buying books, pens, ice cream and so on. But I do not think it is a good idea to ask parents to give me some money. If I find a part-time job, they will say it distracts (使分心) me from studies. If I ask for money, they say they spend too much on my school, clothes and other things.
Sometimes the problem of fashion appears. My parents try to buy me clothes to their taste. Sometimes that’s all right, but sometimes I want something more fashionable, especially for summer. Then we can argue for hours. It is interesting that in the question of clothes, my mother is on my side, but in the question of books and music, my father supports me.
Being young is not easy, but it is an important time to learn and grow. Problems like these may feel big now, but they also help us understand ourselves better. If we can talk with adults honestly, find good friends who support us, and be true to who we are, we will get through these years smoothly. Remember, all these experiences—good or hard—are preparing ourselves for the future ahead.
47. Which of the following sentences can be put in “ ▲ ”?
A. The problem of money is important as well.
B. A part-time job is not a common problem.
C. It’s hard for us to ask parents for some money.
D. Saving money is a necessary skill for the future.
48. Which sentence would the writer keep in his diary?
A. I am too busy to take part-time jobs.
B. I wish my parents to buy clothes for me.
C. I want to make more choices by myself.
D. I hope my teachers help me with my study.
49. How is the passage organized?
A. By time order.
B. By space order.
C. From specific (具体的) to general (总体的).
D. From general to specific.

Chinese children under 18 will now face strict limitations on their online gaming time, with an average of just three hours per week allowed under new regulations (规章). Specifically, they can only play between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. This move aims to protect the mental and physical well-being of young Chinese, as video game addiction (瘾) has become a pressing issue (紧迫的问题), Game companies have to make sure real-name registration (注册) is carried out and get checked more often by the government.
Video game addiction has become a significant issue among the younger generation in China. Recently, an article in a government-connected newspaper has criticized video games as “spiritual opium (精神鸦片)”. Because of this, some major game companies such as Tencent and NetEase, although facing a decrease in their stock prices, have expressed their support for these new measures. These measures aim to solve the growing problem of game addiction and promote a healthier lifestyle for children.
However, the game companies might not be able to control their young customers. Some children have been reported to use their older family members’ identities or even pay to use adult strangers’ identities to extend their gaming time. This emphasizes (强调) the need for both stricter supervision (监督) and education to help children understand the importance of controlled gaming time.
50. What time can Chinese children under 18 play online games under the new regulations?
A. Any time after 8 p.m. on weekends and public holidays.
B. Throughout the night time on weekdays and weekends.
C. From 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on working days and weekends.
D. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends and public holidays.
51. Which of the following statements about the new measures is TRUE?
A. They are set to decrease the stock prices of most of the game companies.
B. They are opposed by the game companies including Tencent and NetEase.
C. They are made to stop game addiction and help children have a better lifestyle.
D. They have been criticized by a government-connected newspaper as“spiritual opium”.
52. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The benefits of controlling young customers’ gaming time.
B. The increasing popularity of gaming among young people.
C. The need for game companies to develop more games for children.
D. The importance of stricter supervision and education on children’s gaming.
F
Plastic is everywhere. From the food we eat to the air we breathe, microplastics (微塑料) can be found in almost anything.
Plastic does great harm to the environment around us. The plastic cutting board (塑料菜板) can be often seen. Is it good for our health?
A recent study found that each time a plastic cutting board was used to cut carrots,1114 microplastics left on the carrots. This means a plastic cutting board could make 15 milligrams of microplastics every time, and around 50 grams a year-the weight of 10 plastic bank cards.
With so many microplastics in our food and our body, should we be worried? A 2022 study in the Republic of Korea suggested that possibly they could do harm to our physical health.
According to Doctor LeBeau, plastic cutting boards do produce microplastics, but it does not mean that plastic cutting boards have bad effects on human health, because the direct connection between the two is still hard to make clear. “Every day we eat so many microplastics from other things (like water) that the microplastics from plastic cutting boards won’t make a huge difference,” Dr. LeBeau says.
Dr. LeBeau also points out the advantages of using wood cutting boards. It seems like a cleaner, safer choice, but this kind of product is porous (多孔的) and may not be completely disinfected (消毒) properly—increasing the risk of illness.
If you decide to avoid both cutting boards, the USDA suggests replacing them with ones that are made of bamboo because they are less porous and much harder. Just be sure to clean it as completely as possible!

D
