begin doing sth.
根据“take a little time”及等待看病的逻辑,可知是在医生看病之前,before“在……之前”符合句式逻辑;after“在……之后”、since“自从”、when“当……时”均不能构成该固定表达。
5.句意:没有地址——他们无家可归。
根据“No address”,后文也直接点明a homeless family,可知他们无家可归,homeless“无家可归的”对应文本线索;lonely“孤独的”、greedy“贪婪的”、clever“聪明的”均与“没有地址”的信息无关。
6.句意:团队立刻行动起来,就像处理真正的医疗紧急情况一样。
根据“emergency room”及后文转折“But this was a Christmas emergency”,可知此处指常规的医疗紧急情况,medical“医疗的”符合场景属性;helpful“有帮助的”、friendly“友好的”、different“不同的”均不能修饰emergency体现急诊室的工作属性。
符合感恩的语气;Glad to“很高兴”、Sorry for“为……

(25-26九年级上·江苏苏州·期中)Every day, from early in the morning until late in the evening, under the hot sun, the slaves (奴隶) picked cotton and put it in their sacks (麻袋). When finishing, Legree weighed it, and there was whipping (抽打) for the slaves that didn’t pick enough cotton. Tom learnt to pick cotton quickly.
One day a new beautiful woman, Cassy, arrived to pick cotton. Tom noticed that she was very fast. He also noticed that an older slave, Martha, was in pain. She was slow, and her sack was almost empty. Tom went near Martha and silently put a lot of his cotton into her sack.
“No, don’t!” said the new woman. “They will punish you.” Just then Sambo arrived.
“What’s happening?” he said and he kicked Martha and whipped Tom across his face. The blood was running from his face. “Work faster!” But when he left, Tom quickly gave her some more of his cotton. Suddenly, the new woman put much cotton in Tom’s sack.
“Tom is going to make much trouble. He kept putting cotton into Martha’s sack,” Sambo told Legree. “Then we’ll have to teach him a lesson,” said Legree.
Slowly the tired slaves came into the room for the weighing of the sacks. First Legree weighed Tom’s sack, and it was enough. Martha’s sack was next. The weight was enough, but Legree shouted at her.
“You’re so lazy! This is not enough! Stay here and wait.” He finished weighing all the other sacks, and then turned to Tom.
“Come here,” said Legree. “I want to give you a better job than picking cotton, and you can start tonight: take this woman and whip her—you know how.”
“I’m sorry, Master,” said Tom. “I can’t do it.”
Legree whipped Tom across his face and then hit him with his hands many times. “There!” he said. “Now will you tell me you can’t do it?”
“Yes, Master,” said Tom, with blood running down his face. “I will work night and day, but I will never whip another person. ”
“I bought you, and you’re mine, body and soul (灵魂),” Legree said, kicking Tom. “My soul isn’t yours, Master! You can’t buy it!”
“We’ll see,” said Legree. “Sambo, Quimbo, give him a lesson. ”

(25-26九年级上·江苏苏州·期中)Most people follow others blindly. Some people feel it is safe to follow other people. In some rare cases, it might be right, but in most cases, this can lead to a big mistake. Ninety-five percent of people never succeed because they are following the wrong group. Actually, there are reasons why we shouldn’t follow others blindly.
According to a study, people always follow others when they aren’t sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what’s right and what’s wrong! This attracts more people to follow them and the result is that most people move in a certain direction even if it is wrong.
A man who wants to be successful always hopes for guidance from others and he usually follows the same path as most people, but the question this man never asks himself is, “Are all of those people successful?” Of course not! If you want to follow a group, then follow a successful one. However, in real life you’ll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and that’s why following others makes no sense at all.
Most people act without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they’re greater than you, then sooner or later you’ll discover that you’re making decisions you might regret (后悔) later.
However, should we never follow others? No. But just think wisely before you make a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem in following them, but if you doubt the direction they’re moving in, don’t follow them blindly.
1.Why do most people like to follow others blindly according to the passage?
A.Because they don’t want to be different.
B.Because they are affected by the people around them.
C.Because they’re sure to take the right direction.
D.Because they want to make themselves successful
2.What does the underlined word “rare” in Paragraph 1 mean in Chinese?
3.What’s the best structure (结构) of the passage?
①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2, ③=Paragraph 3, ④=Paragraph 4, ⑤=Paragraph 5
A. B. C. D.
4.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Advantages of following others. B.Examples of following others.
C.Reasons for not following others blindly. D.Disadvantages of following others.
1.根据文章第二段“people always follow others when they aren’t sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what’s right and what’s wrong! This attracts more people to follow them”可知,人们不确定方向时会跟随他人,这种现象又会吸引更多人加入,说明大多数人盲目跟风是受周围人的影响。
2.根据文章第一段“In some rare cases it might be right, but in most cases this can make a big mistake”可知,前后句为转折关系,后半句表明大多数情况下盲目跟风会犯错,因此前半句指在一些少见、稀有的情况下跟风是正确的,rare意为“稀有的”。
3.根据文章第一段“Actually, there are reasons why we shouldn’t follow others blindly”、第二段“According to a study, people always follow others when they aren’t sure about the direction they should take”、第三段“A man who wants to be successful always hopes for guidance from others and he usually follows the same path of most people”、第四段“Most people act without thinking wisely”、第五段“However, should we never follow others? No. But just think wisely before you make a decision”可推知,第一段提出总论点,第二至四段分述不应盲目跟风的原因,第五段总结并给出理性跟随的建议,整体为“总-分-总”结构,对应选项D的图示。

Grades at school are often a top worry for children. If you worry most about grades, ask yourself these questions:

If your worry is about a fight you had with your friend, you might write down all the things you could do—write a note to him or her, invite him or her to watch a basketball game, say sorry to him or her and so on. (25-26九年级上·江苏苏州·期中)I love college and I love you for sending me here. I’m very, very happy, and so excited every moment of the time that I can hardly sleep. You can’t imagine how different it is from the John Grier Home. I never dreamed there was such a place in the world. I’m feeling sorry for everybody who isn’t a girl and the girls who can’t come here. I am sure the college you attended when you were a boy wasn’t so nice.
My room is up in a tower that used to be the ward (病房) before the new hospital was built. There are three other girls on the same floor of the tower—an older girl who wears glasses and is always asking us to be a little quieter, and two new students named Sallie and Julia. Sallie has red hair and a turned-up nose and is quite friendly; Julia comes from one of the first families in New York and hasn’t known me yet.
Sallie and Julia live in one room. The older girl and I have single rooms. Usually new students can’t get this kind of room. They are very rare, but I got one without even asking. I suppose the registrar (教务主任) didn’t think it would be right to ask a well-raised child like the older girl to share a room with a foundling (弃婴). You see, there are advantages!
The room with the name “Jerusha Abbott” on the door is mine. It is on the north-west corner with two windows and a view. After I have lived in a ward for eighteen years with twenty roommates, it is quiet and calm for me to be alone. I think I’m going to like the life here.
1.From the first paragraph, we know that the college is ________.
A.the same as the John Grier Home B.a great place for the writer to stay
C.a place where the writer wants to leave D.a wonderful place only for boys
2.Which of the following is the right order according to the story?

4.What can we infer (推测) from the passage?
A.The writer used to be a foundling. B.The writer has never lived in a ward.
C.The older girl comes from a poor family. D.Jerusha Abbott is one of the writer’s friends.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.B 4.A
根据第一段“I love college…I’m very, very happy…You can’t imagine how different it is from the John Grier Home.”
根据“After I have lived in a ward for eighteen years”可知,作者过去在病房住了18年,这是故事背景;根据“I love college…I’m very, very happy” 可知,作者来到大学后感到非常快乐和兴奋;根据“My room is up in a tower”以及“The older girl and I have single rooms”可知,作者随后描述了自己住进了塔楼的单人房;根据“There are three other girls on the same floor”可知,她因此与同楼层的其他女孩成为了邻居。
根据“The older girl and I have single rooms. Usually new students can’t get this kind of room. They are very rare, but I got one without even asking.”
根据“I suppose the registrar (教务主任) didn’t think it would be right to ask a well-raised child like the older girl to share a room with a foundling (弃婴).”可知,作者认为教务主任是为了避免让家教好的女孩和弃婴同住才给她分配了单间,此处“foundling”指代作者自己;且根据“The room with the name ‘Jerusha Abbott’ on the door is mine.” 故选A。
(25-26九年级上·江苏苏州·期中)Having a teenager at home can be a real headache. Many teenagers smoke, wear strange hairstyles and even fight. Basically, they are often taking risks. Earlier studies have shown that teenagers are more likely to make irrational decisions than people from any other age group, including children and adults. Is it that teenagers are too young to tell right from wrong?
Not really. So what’s the reason? According to Laurence, a teacher from a US university, the reason is that teenagers care a lot about how their peers (同龄人) view them—that is “peer influence”. As children enter their teenage years, they spend more time with their friends and classmates, and they also care more about what they think of them.
This makes teenagers make decisions without thinking about the costs. In a test, a group of teenagers were asked to play a video driving game. When they played with their friends watching around them, they took more chances and drove more carelessly because that would increase their possibility of winning. But when they played alone, they drove more safely.
Why do peers have such a big influence on teens’ behavior? As Laurence sees it, a teenager’s brain is like a car with a good accelerator (油门) but a weak brake (刹车). The “accelerator” is fully developed by teenage years, while the “brake” is still not fully developed. When teenagers are watched by their peers, they usually push hard on the accelerator. With their weak brake, it is likely that they are going to end up in an accident. But the good news is that a violent (暴力的) teenager doesn't necessarily become a violent adult. About two-thirds to three-quarters of violent youth grow out of it. “They get more self-controlled.”
1.What does the underlined word “irrational” in the first paragraph mean?
A.Quick. B.Crazy. C.Careful. D.Correct.
2.Why are teenagers often taking risks according to the text?
A.They like difficult tasks.
B.They care about costs.
C.They are too young to tell right from wrong.
D.They care a lot about what their peers think of them.
3.According to the text, with peers around them, teenagers tend to (倾向于) .
A.use more self-control
B.focus more on short-term benefits
C.perform better than when they are alone
D.become more careful about what they do
4.What can we learn from the text?
A.Peer influence is bad for teenagers.
B.Teenagers are easy to have traffic accidents.
C.Most of the teenagers become less violent when they grow up.
D.Teenagers shouldn't spend all the free time with their friends.
根据“Many teenagers smoke, wear strange hairstyles and even fight. Basically, they are often taking risks.”
根据“…the reason is that teenagers care a lot about how their peers view them—that is ‘peer influence’.”
根据“When they played with their friends watching around them, they took more chances and drove more carelessly because that would increase their possibility of winning.”
根据“About two-thirds to three-quarters of violent youth grow out of it. ‘They get more self-controlled.’”
Have you ever lost yourself in doing something so that you forget the time? Everything around you—from the ringing of phones to the people passing by—seems to be away.
Most of us have had this experience at one time or another. This special state (状态) of mind is called “flow”. When it happens, we completely pay attention to what we are doing. We feel energetic, even excited about what we are doing. For example, when you are drawing, you might forget to eat dinner because you lose yourself in it. ①
The idea of flow was introduced and first studied by psychologist (心理学家) Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. According to his discovery, whether flow happens depends on the difficulty of the challenge and our skill levels. For example, if the task is not very challenging and doesn’t require a lot of skills, we probably feel bored towards it. But facing a challenging task without the required skills could easily cause worry. He finally drew the conclusion that when the challenge is high and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens. ②
What advantages does flow bring? During flow, people can work faster and better. For example, artists said that they could produce more works easily “without putting in much effort” in the flow state. Flow can also make people more curious and creative because they have to look for new challenges and information to keep the state. ③
Flow often happens during creative activities and sports activities. But flow states aren’t just something experienced by artists, writers or sports persons. Flow can happen anytime a person is deeply lost in a task, including during learning activities. Many people want to achieve flow more often in their daily lives. While doing a task, having clear plans, adding something challenging and giving and receiving feedback (反馈) in time can help achieve flow. It’s more difficult to achieve flow if people’s attention is distracted (分散), so it’s necessary that smartphones, TV and other distractions get turned off. ④
1.When people are in flow, they CAN’T ________.
A.forget the time B.hear the ringing of phones
C.give full attention to their tasks D.feel excited about what they do
2.According to Csikszentmihalyi’s study, which diagram (示意图) shows the flow state?
A. B.
C. D.
3.Where can the sentence “With flow, people have greater levels of happiness and satisfaction in their activities.” be put in the passage?
A.① B.② C.③ D.④
4.Who can most probably achieve flow according to the passage?
A.A runner who wants to win the first prize in an important race.
B.An artist who is drawing an apple for his 10-year-old daughter.
C.A chess player who doesn’t know what to do before competition.
D.A student who is taking an exam when having a headache.
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.A
1.根据文章第1段“Everything around you—from the ringing of phones to the people passing by—seems to be away.”以及第2段“When it happens, we completely pay attention to what we are doing. We feel energetic, even excited about what we are doing.”
2.根据文章第3段“when the challenge is high and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens.”
文章第4段以“What advantages does flow bring?”
4.根据文章第3段“when the challenge is high and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens.”
(26-27九年级上·江苏苏州·阶段检测)Have you ever walked around with your hands in your pockets just to look “cool”? Have you ever imagined being “the chosen one”—someone with a secret plan, hidden pain, or thoughts beyond one’s age? If so, you are not alone!
Looking back on my middle school days, I still remember how silly I was. I wanted people to notice me, but I also acted as if I didn’t care. I walked around in my oversized T-shirts and baggy jeans because I thought they made me look cooler. I didn’t want to do anything “mainstream” just to show I was different from others. For example, if everyone liked a song, I’d say proudly, “I am the only one who dislikes it!”
This kind of teen behaviour is quite common. Many teenagers around 13 or 14 start believing that being “normal” is too boring. They want to be different from everyone else. What’s more, they want to be the centre of attention, and they often care a lot about how others think of them.
Yes, I find my 14-year-old self funny. But as a father now, I understand how painful it can be to become a teenager. You are no longer a kid, but not an adult, either. You feel unsure, but you also want to look confident. Although your behaviour can seem silly, it is just a natural part of growing up—a time when you explore who you are and who you want to be.
So, next time you look back and feel a bit silly about your past behaviour, don’t be too hard on yourself. There is nothing wrong with you! It is just part of growing up.
1.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By offering advice. B.By asking questions.
C.By comparing facts. D.By sharing experiences.
2.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “mainstream” in Paragraph 2?
A.Usual. B.Cool. C.Different. D.Strange.
3.What are many teenagers likely to do according to Paragraph 3?
A.Copy others’ behaviour. B.Understand others’ pains.
C.Dislike others’ attention. D.Care about others’ thoughts.
4.Which of the following opinions does the writer agree with?
A.Teenagers shouldn’t look back on the past.
B.Teenagers shouldn’t be different from others.
C.It’s easy for teenagers to understand themselves.
D.It’s part of growing up for teenagers to behave in a silly way.
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.D 4.D

3.根据文章第三段“they often care a lot about how others think of them”可知,许多青少年非常在意别人对他们的看法。
4.根据文章第四段“Although your behaviour can seem silly, it is just a natural part of growing up”及第五段“It is just part of growing up.”
(26-27九年级上·江苏苏州·阶段检测)When Wang Hong accepted the Fields Medal (菲尔兹奖), one of the highest honors in math, in July 2026, many people in China felt proud.
Wang grew up in Pingle County, Guangxi. At the age of four, her arm was badly hurt by boiling water. For many years, her parents took her from one hospital to another. Because her skin was very sensitive (敏感的) to light, she spent a lot of time inside the house. This hard experience did not close her world. Instead, it helped her learn how to be alone, how to read by herself, and how to silence the noise around.
Her father, a math teacher, opened the door to numbers for her. Her mother, an English teacher, helped her fall in love with language. Wang later said that math was one way for her to understand the world. As a child, she was happy when she solved a problem about seven points on a flat surface. Her parents did not force her to follow a fixed path. They gave her freedom, which became an important kind of support.
At Peking University, Wang did not first get into the math school she wanted. Surrounded by classmates who had years of competition training, she began to doubt herself. Still, she could not give up math. She worked hard enough to move into the School of Mathematical Sciences. Later, in Paris and at MIT, she still wondered if she was only good at exercises or if she could really do research. She even stopped math for a while and tried art and architecture (建筑).
In the end, she came back. Years of doubt (怀疑), wrong turns, and trying again did not push her away from the problem. They helped her come back to it with a quieter and stronger mind. Her advice to students was simple: if you get something in the end, it does not matter if you are faster or slower. Do not rush. Take your time.
1.What do we know about Wang Hong when she was little?
A.She was hurt in a fire when she was four.
B.She had to stay indoors because of her skin condition.
C.Her parents sent her to one single hospital for treatment.
D.She was weak in her studies because she became sensitive after the accident.
2.What can we know about the freedom Wang’s parents gave her?
A.It protected her from every problem outside the family.
B.It was mostly shown by sending her to the best-known schools.
C.It let her interests grow without a plan forced on her.
D.It worked because both parents taught the same subject at school.
3.What role does Paragraph 4 play in the passage?
A.It describes the doubts and wrong turns Wang experienced during her studies.
B.It compares the training systems of Peking University, Paris, and MIT.
C.It explains why Wang finally chose architecture before going back to math.
D.It proves that competition experience is the safest way to research.
4.What is the main message we can get from Wang Hong’s story?
A.A hard childhood usually makes people less afraid of being famous.
B.Winning a top prize is the clearest proof of a person’s value.
C.Learning ahead is more important than learning with other people.
D.A slow search can still lead somewhere if one keeps coming back to the real question.

Secret to Happiness
There’s a Chinese saying that goes, “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap (小睡). If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, become wealthy by chance. 1 ” Helping others by giving may be the secret to a happy, healthy life. The more you give, the more you’ll gain. The key is to find a method that works for you. 2
Find your love. 3 You might feel bad if you are doing something you don’t like. You will feel great when you put your love into giving.
Give your time. The gift of time is often more valuable to the receiver, and more satisfying to the giver, than money. People don’t all have the same amount of money, but everyone has time. 4 It can be just a few hours a day, or a few days a year.
Be active. Take every chance to serve your community. You are free to choose what you want to do. Make full use of services that match your values.
5 You can easily get used to selfless giving. When you give, make sure to keep your own needs in mind. You matter, too.
All in all, by proper giving, you can gain purpose, meaning and happiness—all of the things that people look for in life but are so hard to find.
A.Don’t forget about yourself.
B.Here is some advice that you can take.
C.You can give some of this time to help others.
D.If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.
E.But sometimes you are not sure where money is going.

What is it like to grow up?
As you grow older, there will be certain events that will mark your growth. Graduating from high school and getting your first job are just a few of these. What are some other ways in which we mark our journey toward adulthood?
In the US, getting your driver’s license (执照) at the age of 16 is seen as a major coming-of-age (成人) ritual (仪式). But not every teenager gets a car right away. Usually, their parents will buy a second-hand car for them as their first car. Another big coming-of-age event is the prom Teenagers wear fancy clothing, ask each other to dance and vote (投票) for a prom “king” and “queen”. For many teenagers, prom is the biggest social event of the year. It’s a time for them to dress and act like an adult.
And there’s still more. At the age of 18, we can vote in the US and at 21, we can drink alcohol (酒). This is also the time when most children move out of their parents’ home for college or work.
It is around this age that society starts to consider us to be adults. But what does it really mean to be an adult? Psychologist Jeffrey Arnett surveyed young adults and found three common adulthood goals: managing yourself, supporting yourself, and making decisions by yourself.
I agree with Arnett. Being an adult has more to do with one’s maturity (成熟). If you want to drive, vote, drink, leave home or even start a romantic relationship, you have to make sure that you’re ready to be responsible.
1.What do parents usually buy for their kids as their first car?
2.What does it mean to be an adult according to the passage? Give one example.
3.Which one do you prefer, to be a child or an adult? Why?
1.They usually buy a second-hand car for their kids as their first car. 2.According to the passage, being an adult involves goals like managing yourself, supporting yourself, or making decisions by yourself. For example, if I want to get a driver’s license, I need to manage my driving behavior responsibly. 3.I prefer to be an adult. Because I can make my own decisions.
1.根据“Usually, their parents will buy a second-hand car for them as their first car.” They usually buy a second-hand car for their kids as their first car.
2.根据“Psychologist Jeffrey Arnett surveyed young adults and found three common adulthood goals: managing yourself, supporting yourself, and making decisions by yourself.”以及“If you want to drive…you have to make sure that you’re ready to be responsible.” According to the passage, being an adult involves goals like managing yourself, supporting yourself, or making decisions by yourself. For example, if I want to get a driver’s license, I need to manage my driving behavior responsibly.
I prefer to be an adult. Because I can make my own decisions.
(25-26九年级上·江苏苏州·期中)Growing up in a small community can be a wonderful experience filled with love and support. In places like Um Mao and Soak Maew in Nakhon Phanom province, families come together to care for their children, creating a warm and caring environment like a big family.
When schools reopened after the long holidays, many children had difficulty getting back to in-person learning. They spent hours on their smartphones, even after finishing their schoolwork. This heavy screen time was affecting their ability to focus and learn in the classroom.
Teachers like Aomam, Nice and Pimpam saw this challenge and decided to take action. They worked together to create a special one-day learning recovery (学习恢复) activity that would inspire the children’s enthusiasm (热情) for learning. By bringing in things from their community and inviting local talents to take part, they designed a day filled with fun activities like music, language, sports, and crafts.
Through this movement, the teachers hoped to not only include the children but also promote teamwork and develop a deeper connection with nature and science in the community. They understood that the key to success lay in involving (使参与) the children and getting the support of their parents. By encouraging the children to embrace (拥抱) new experiences and setting limits on screen time at home, they hoped to guide the children back to a more balanced and colorful way of life.
In the end, the learning recovery activity was a success, showing that with creativity, community involvement, and a focus on holistic education (全人教育), children can find the joy of learning and exploring the world around them.
1.Why did many students find it difficult to return to in-person learning after the holidays?
2.What was the “key to success” in organizing the activity, according to the teachers?
3.Would you like to take part in a one-day learning recovery activity organized by your teachers? Why or why not?
1.Because they spent too much time on their smartphones during the holidays and it affected their focus in class. 2.The key to success was involving the children and getting the support of their parents. 3.

Lessons from Growing Pains
Growth is like climbing a small hill. We may meet difficulties and feel lost on the way. I’d like to share one of my experiences.
Last term, I was weak in English listening and kept getting low marks in listening exams. Gradually, I lost confidence and even thought about giving up improving my English. Luckily, my English teacher encouraged me and offered some useful advice. I began to practise listening for half an hour daily and wrote down useful expressions. Whenever I made mistakes, I reviewed them carefully. Months later, I got a satisfying score in the final listening test.
This experience teaches me that challenges are part of growth. Only when we face difficulties bravely and stick to our efforts can we keep moving forward to reach our goals.

Ten years later, Tong 7 the first cross-species cloned fish. In the whole process, challenges and failures didn’t prevent him. Thanks to his pioneering research, Chinese scientists developed fish-breeding skills. Now China produces more than half of the world’s aquaculture (水产养殖) harvest.
Should we “aim for the moon” or 8 fix our eyes on easy goals? Tong’s story provides a valuable 9 . It tells us that fighting for excellence in spite of failures can lead us to great success.

(25-26九年级上·江苏苏州·期中)Everyone has worries. How do you deal with your worries? There is always something you can do to help yourself feel less worried. Sitting there worrying is no fun and it won’t solve your problems.
Grades at school are often a top worry for children. If you worry most about grades, ask yourself these questions:
-Why are grades important? What do grades mean to me?
-How do I get ready for class? Do I go over my notes even when there isn’t a test?
-Do I have a good place to do my homework?
-Have I tried different ways of studying?
If your worry is about a fight you had with your friend, you might write down all the things you could do—write a note to him or her, invite him or her to watch a basketball game, say sorry to him or her and so on. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose one thing that could get your friend back.
You can ask for help when you’re worried. Sharing your worries is a sign of strength, not weakness. You can find someone to talk to, such as your parents, friends, and teachers. Just remember that you don’t have to face the difficulties alone. Someone is here for you.

A.Students who study well. B.Teachers who get ready for the class.
C.People who face difficulties. D.People who have no worries.
① I moved into a single room in the tower.
② Jerusha Abbott felt so happy and excited that she could hardly sleep.
③ I became neighbours with three other girls on my floor.
④ Jerusha Abbott lived in a ward with twenty roommates for eighteen years.
A.①④③② B.②③①④ C.④②①③ D.④①③②
3.What does the underlined word “They” in the third paragraph refer to?
A.New students. B.Single rooms. C.The registrars. D.Younger girls.
4.What can we infer (推测) from the passage?
A.The writer used to be a foundling. B.The writer has never lived in a ward.
C.The older girl comes from a poor family. D.Jerusha Abbott is one of the writer’s friends.

Why?
