(25-26九年级上·江苏无锡·期中)If a stranger (陌生人) knocked on your door asking to use your phone, would you help? How about lending them five dollars for the bus, if they said they’d return and pay you back?
Nowadays, many people find it hard to trust strangers. A recent study found that our ability to trust strangers may be more than just a social or psychological characteristic—it could come from our DNA.This is important, in fact, as it turns out that trusting people might live longer and healthier lives compared to those who like to doubt others. ①________
②________ Two main theories have appeared to explain why some people are more trusting than others. One suggests trust is a stable characteristic shaped by early life experiences. The other thinks it’s influenced by what a person always thinks about the world around them. We can easily guess the answer to the question “Would you say that most people can be trusted?” would depend on whether you’d been robbed the day before or if you’d had your missing wallet returned.
③________ This is where the recent research comes in. Edgerton, a researcher from Lund University, and his teammates have been doing research about trust. In their most recent study, with 33,882 Danish blood donors, they found a single gene (基因)—PLPP4, which has a strong connection to the personality of trusting others, and that the PLPP4 gene explained 6% of the difference in social trust among the people in the study. If you take two people who have similar education and life experiences, this gene alone could account for 6% of the difference in how much they trust others.
④________ They believe that the PLPP4 gene may soften our “fight-or-flight” survival response (反应). If our fight-or-flight system is less strong when we meet new people, it makes sense that trusting others could greatly improve our health. Indeed, if trusting others acts as something against stress, it may lower the risk of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease.
As people continue to uncover the mysteries of trust, one thing is clear: understanding its genetic roots may hold the key to developing healthier communities in the world.
13.Why does the writer begin the passage with questions?
A.To test the readers’ sense of safety.
B.To show how dangerous it is to trust strangers.
C.To challenge readers to make a difficult choice.
D.To introduce the topic by connecting to readers’ own lives.
14.According to paragraph 3, what might make you trust people less today?
A.If you had a happy childhood.
B.If you once faced difficulties at work.
C.If you were not educated well at a young age.
D.If you were treated in a dishonest way by others.
15.The following sentence can be put at ________.
What makes some people more trusting?
A.① B.② C.③ D.④
16.What can we know from the passage?
A.We should trust strangers more so that we can live longer.
B.Trust may come from our body and is good for our health.
C.The PLPP4 gene may lead to our natural fear response to strangers.
D.People’s trust levels are mainly shaped by their childhood experiences.

(25-26九年级上·江苏无锡·阶段检测)In today’s world, digital technology is everywhere. From smartphones to computers, it has changed how we connect. However, some scientists have expressed concern that overusing digital devices could harm our brain health, especially as we age. This idea is sometimes called “digital dementia”, suggesting that depending too much on technology might weaken thinking skills.
But is that really true for older people? A recent study from researchers in the USA offers a different and more hopeful view. The team analyzed data from more than 411,000 adults aged 50 and above. They checked how often these people used technology like computers, smartphones, and the Internet, and whether that was linked to changes in their cognitive(认知)health over time.
The results were clear: regular technology use was connected with a lower risk of cognitive decline(衰退). In fact, the study found that those who often used technology had about 58% lower risk of memory loss or dementia compared to those who rarely used such devices.
One possible explanation is that using technology often requires learning and adaptation(适应)—— whether it’s figuring out a new app, following online instructions, or even troubleshooting(检修)a device. These activities can act like mental exercise, helping to keep the brain active. Moreover, technology helps many older adults stay socially connected through messaging apps, video calls, and social media, which is also known to support cognitive health.
Of course, not all screen time is equal. Mindlessly swiping through videos or spending hours on passive entertainment (被动式娱乐)may not provide the same benefits. What matters is how we use technology—— whether it encourages thinking, learning, or connecting.
This study does not mean technology is a cure for aging-related brain changes, and more research is needed to understand the long-term effects. However, it suggests that in our increasingly digital world, using technology in thoughtful and active ways may be one useful part of maintaining brain health as we grow older.
17.According to the study, how does regular use of technology affect older adults’ brain health?
A.It greatly increases the risk of dementia.
B.It will weaken their memory and thinking skills.
C.It is linked to a much lower risk of cognitive decline.
D.It only helps if they stop using it after age 60.
18.Which of the technology activities would the author most probably recommend for brain health?
A.Leaving a TV on in the background all day while doing housework.
B.Using a smartphone app to learn a new language.
C.Letting a family member manage online tasks for you.
D.Spending hours swiping through TikTok videos.
19.Why does the author mention “mental exercise” in Paragraph 4?
A.To encourage older people to do mental exercise more often.
B.To suggest that using technology is better than physical exercise.
C.To explain how active technology use is helpful to the brain.
D.To argue that thinking is necessary to prevent old people from digital dementia.
20.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To warn older people about the dangers of “digital dementia”.
B.To encourage old people to use digital devices in our increasingly digital world.
C.To show technology may help protect older adults’ brain health if used actively.
D.To argue that technology is a cure for aging-related brain changes.

Using his medical knowledge, Chen Sheng takes care of the elderly in a proper way, including physical examination, health guidance, advice on food and so on. “I arrived at the nursing home with lots of illnesses and could only lie in bed. Dear teachers and classmates,
I am Zhang Hua. Today I am glad to share a story with you. When I entered Grade 9, I struggled with constant stress from heavy coursework, especially in math. Complex problems made me anxious, and I even considered giving up at one point.
My math teacher, Ms. Li, noticed my struggle. She patiently guided me through challenging concepts after class and encouraged me to keep a “problem notebook” to track doubts and progress. Whenever I felt overwhelmed, she reminded me that mistakes were stepping stones to growth.
Her trust helped me shift my mindset. I started tackling difficulties bravely and learned to seek help proactively. Gradually, math became less daunting, and my confidence returned. Now, I face challenges with optimism, knowing perseverance turns obstacles into opportunities. This experience taught me that sunshine teenagers aren’t born—they’re shaped by kindness and courage.

文章第1段“If a stranger (陌生人) knocked on your door asking to use your phone, would you help?”,作者通过假设一个读者在生活中可能遇到的真实情境来开篇。这种方式能让读者产生代入感,从而自然地引出关于“信任陌生人”这一核心话题的讨论。
14.文章第3段“We can easily guess the answer to the question ‘Would you say that most people can be trusted?’ would depend on whether you’d been robbed the day before or if you’d had your missing wallet returned.”表明如果不被他人诚实对待,会降低对他人的信任。
15.文章第3段“Two main theories have appeared to explain why some people are more trusting than others...”主要介绍了关于信任的两个理论,句子“What makes some people more trusting?”放在②处,引出下文两种理论,逻辑衔接通顺。
16.文章第2段“our ability to trust strangers may be more than just a social or psychological characteristic—it could come from our DNA...trusting people might live longer and healthier lives” 表明信任陌生人的能力源于DNA,信任他人的人寿命更长、身体更健康。

Thanks for listening!
【答案】例文
Thanks for listening!
