So when I received an email from a friend about a race benefiting cancer research, I ignored it. It seemed to prick my heart, as cancer was the disease that had taken my mother away from me. But something about my friend’s words — “I can help organize the whole thing” — made me feel it a duty to agree. In the weeks to come, I managed to re-enter the world of the living. I checked our team’s website daily, feeling proud each time a donation ticked up our total. I knew my mum would have wanted it that way. She was the type who never gave up. It was this very spirit that helped me get by. When the race ended, I noticed the runners all had one thing in common: There were big smiles on their faces. They made it look so meaningful and effortless. I wanted in. So I entered into another race two months later. Considering I could hardly run a mile, it was hard to achieve. But my friend and I made a training plan so I wouldn’t come in last. I followed it strictly and didn’t let anything get in my way. Running up and down the city’s hills, I was flooded with memories. I had lived there after college and my mother had visited often. I passed Bloomingdale’s, recalling the time she and I had gotten into a fierce argument there. I was about to beat myself up when I remembered what Mum had said after her diagnosis (诊断) of cancer. “I don’t want you to feel regretful about anything.” Her paper-thin hands had held me tightly. A weight lifted from my shoulders. When the race day arrived,I gave it my all for my mum and for all she had taught me and continued to teach me. As I ran, whenever I felt like slowing down, I pictured her cheering me on. Crossing the finish line, I was filled with her love and a sense of peace. 41.Why did the author ignore the email in the beginning? A.She felt it hard to finish the race. B.She had no time to join in the event. C.She thought the research meaningless. D.She was reminded of her mother's death. 42.What does the underlined word “prick” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A.Hurt. B.Lose. C.Win. D.Warm. 43.What mainly helped the author recover from her mum’s death? A.The company of her friends. B.The inspiration from her mum. C.The pleasure in going for a run. D.The success in organizing an event. 44.Which of the words can best describe the author’s mum? A.Considerate and polite. B.Brave and humorous. C.Strong-willed and caring. D.Outgoing and patient. 45.What might be the best title for the passage? A.How I Got Healed in Running B.The Loss of Sweet memories C.What Matters Most in Running D.The Benefits of Mothers’ love C(2023·天津·高考真题) Getting the “side-eye” look from your dog can make it seem like they are making a judgement about you, and some new studies suggest they really could be. The ability to judge others’ intentions is an indicator of possessing “theory of mind” which was once thought to be unique to humans. However, new studies have shown that dogs can read human behaviour and have a preference to people who are more friendly or generous with food. One such study published in 2023 aimed to see if dogs can tell the difference between humans who are “unwilling” or “unable” to give them a treat. 96 dogs were involved in both “unwilling” and “unable” scenarios (情境) designed for the study. Both scenarios involved a dog being placed on one side of a glass screen with small holes in it at nose-height, and an experimenter standing on the other. In the ‘unwilling’ scenario, the experimenter would hang a piece of sausage in front of the screen in a ‘teasing’ (戏耍的) manner, and approach one of the holes. But instead of passing it through the hole to the dog, they would then pull it out of its reach. For the “unable” scenario, the experimenter would again move the treat towards the hole while the dog watched, but “accidentally” drop it before they could pass it through. The researchers observed that the dogs were much more patient, making more eye contact and staying closer to the screen after the “unable” scenario played out. In the “unwilling” scenario, however, the dogs looked at the experimenter less often, sat, lay down and wandered around more frequently. Another study from 2021 tested for “theory of mind” in dogs in a similar way, but the dogs were able to walk round the screen to obtain the treat after witnessing the experimenter’s “unwilling” or “unable” behaviour. The main finding was that the dogs approached the experimenter significantly sooner in the unable scenario than in the unwilling scenario. However, the researchers of the 2023 study challenged that the food dropped on the floor in the clumsy (笨拙的) manner might have motivated the dogs to approach the experimenter considering that they probably often obtain food dropped on the floor in their daily lives. Now, more evidence has been provided that dogs distinguish between similar actions associated with different intentions. But how exactly they acquire such intention-reading abilities will be an exciting topic for future research. 46.What is one of the new research findings according to Paragraph 2? A.Dogs also have “theory of mind”. B.Dogs prefer food from generous people. C.Human behaviours are mostly intentional. D.Friendly animals can get food more easily. 47.What did the experimenter do in the “unwilling” scenario in the 2023 study? A.They acted awkwardly while feeding the dog. B.They pretended to walk slowly away from the dog. C.They teased the dog by fixing the treat to the screen. D.They pulled the sausage beyond the dog’s reach. 48.How did the dogs of the 2023 study respond to the “unable” behaviour? A.By moving closer to the experimenter. B.By keeping wandering around. C.By ignoring the experimenter. D.By lying still on the floor 49.How does the experiment design of the 2021 study differ from that of 2023? A.The dogs can watch the experimenter. B.The dogs can go to the other side of the screen. C.The dogs’ responses are under close observation. D.The dogs’ habitual behaviours are under analysis. 50.What do the dogs’ different responses in “unwilling” and “unable” scenarios suggest? A.Dogs can tell “being friendly” from “being mean” B.Dogs’ intelligence is gradually evolving. C.Dogs’ intentions can be easily identified. D.Dogs are a lot more emotional than other animals. D(25-26高一下·天津和平·阶段检测) Mom was right! If you say thank you, for even the smallest gift or slightest show of kindness, you’ll feel happy. Gratitude (感激), says Robert A.Emmons, a professor of psychology at the University of California, is an important element of happiness. In his recent book, Thanks!, Emmons uses the first major study on gratitude to prove mom’s point. In acknowledging and developing this much-ignored expression of thankfulness, he explains how people have benefited — even improved their health. As one of the leading scholars of the positive psychology movement, he admits gratitude may be difficult to express. He advises you to begin by admitting that life is good and full of events and elements that make daily existence a wonder. Second, recognize that the source of life’s goodness is more than just you. That source may be your mom, a friend, partner, child, colleague at work or play, or any combination of these. Gratitude is always other-directed, notes Emmons. You can be pleased or angry with yourself and feel guilty about doing something wrong, but you can never be grateful to or for yourself. Expressing gratitude shouldn’t be a reaction; it should be state of mind. To feel grateful when life is a breeze and you have more than you need is easy. To feel grateful in time of crisis — anger, hatred and bitterness — is easier. Also, too many people are aware of life’s blessings only after these are lost. The voices expressing gratitude from his studies of individuals are many. It’s crisis and chaos — danger, disease, disability and death — that bring many individuals to realize just how dependent they are on others. Yet it’s the way each of us begins life and ends it. It’s too bad that so many people waste those decades in between laboring under the illusion (幻觉) that they are self-sufficient (自给自足的), says Emmons. To enable and embrace gratitude, Emmons encourages the readers of Thanks! to keep a gratitude diary. He even provides easy-to-follow directions on how to practice and develop gratitude. I’m not a reader or advocate of self-help books, but I am thankful for the reference I found in a newspaper article to the research Emmons was conducting on gratitude involving organ donors and recipients (接受者). The chance discovery led me to this book. Mom implied that kindness seems to find its way back to the giver because life really is all about giving, receiving and repaying. So, I’ll pay attention to her professional advice and say: Thank you, Professor Emmons. 51.What does the text mainly discuss? A.There are many ways of being thankful. B.Gratitude is important to happiness. C.Mom is great for her being thankful. D.Being thankful will keep you fit. 52.The author mentions Robert Emmons’ book Thanks! in order to prove that ______. A.Professor Emmons supports mom’s study on psychology. A.you live a comfortable life B.you receive gifts on your birthday C.you get help during your hard times D.you are congratulated on your success 54.What is the opinion of Professor Emmons? A.It is enough to thank others orally. B.Whether you are thankful is always up to you. C.Remember to be thankful anytime and anywhere D.It is easier to be thankful for yourself than for others 55.According to Emmons, people can express gratitude by _______. A.keeping a gratitude diary B.reading self-help books C.feeling self-sufficient D.remaining dependent on others (24-25高一上·天津·期末)Andrew, a little boy, took all his primary school teachers to a nice goodbye dinner before moving on to middle school. He even paid the bill himself. “They loved it,” Andrew’s mom said. “One of his teachers, his math teacher, said, ‘I’ve been teaching for dozens of years and that has never happened.’ All of the teachers were touched by what Andrew had done for them. I was so surprised that a simple gesture such as this would mean so much to people.” Back in July, on his birthday, Andrew decided to treat his elementary school teachers to dinner and told the decision to his parents. His parents — his mom, a lawyer, and his dad, a teacher in a high school, said, “We are proud of your idea. Your teachers deserve it. We can do you some favor, like helping you contact the restaurant.” Andrew then began saving his money for the dinner. He spared time to offer services to the neighbors, such as taking care of their babies, helping them pick up newspapers, and doing gardening. What’s more, he sold his old toys on the Internet. All in all, he raised $300. On October 15, 2024, Andrew hosted a dinner for his teachers at a local restaurant. Andrew’s mom said, “We invited Andrew’s elementary school teachers, including those who didn’t teach anymore. Andrew brought them flowers.” One of Andrew’s teachers said they were moved by Andrew’s words. She described the scene, “At the beginning of the dinner, Andrew said, ‘The dinner is on me.’ He said our hard work inspired his action. He was obliged to us for teaching him throughout the school years. We replied, ‘Don’t mention it. A.How I Got Healed in Running B.The Loss of Sweet memories C.What Matters Most in Running D.The Benefits of Mothers’ love 【答案】41.D 42.A 43.B 44.C 45.A 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。本文讲述了作者在母亲去世后,通过参与跑步比赛和回忆母亲的教诲,逐渐走出悲伤,找到内心的平静的故事。 【详解】41.细节理解题。根据第一段“It was a week after my mum had passed away and I didn’t know how to go on with life. So when I received an email from a friend about a race benefiting cancer research, I ignored it. It seemed to prick my heart, as cancer was the disease that had taken my mother away from me.(妈妈去世后一周,我不知道该如何继续生活。所以,当我收到朋友发来的一封关于一场有益于癌症研究的比赛的电子邮件时,我忽略了它。这似乎刺痛了我的心,因为癌症就是夺走我妈妈的疾病。)”可知,作者一开始忽略那封邮件是因为这让作者想起了母亲的去世。故选D。 42.词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句上文“It was a week after my mum had passed away and I didn’t know how to go on with life. So when I received an email from a friend about a race benefiting cancer research, I ignored it.(那是我妈妈去世一周后,我不知道该如何继续生活。因此,当我收到一位朋友发来的关于一场有利于癌症研究的比赛的电子邮件时,我忽略了它。)”以及下文“as cancer was the disease that had taken my mother away from me.(因为癌症就是夺走我妈妈的疾病。)”可知,作者在母亲去世一周后收到了一封邮件,是关于有利于癌症研究的比赛,而作者的母亲就是死于癌症,由此可推测,这封邮件刺痛了作者的内心,让作者难过、伤心;“prick”意思是“刺痛,使痛心”,与hurt意思相近。故选A。 43.细节理解题。根据第二段“She was the type who never gave up. It was this very spirit that helped me get by.(她是那种永不放弃的人。正是这种精神帮助我度过难关。)”可知,是母亲永不放弃的精神激励了作者,帮助作者从母亲去世的伤痛中恢复过来。故选B。 44.推理判断题。根据第二段“She was the type who never gave up.(她是那种永不放弃的人。)”可知,作者的母亲意志坚强;根据第六段“I was about to beat myself up when I remembered what Mum had said after her diagnosis (诊断) of cancer. “I don’t want you to feel regretful about anything.” Her paper-thin hands had held me tightly. A weight lifted from my shoulders.(当我想起妈妈被诊断出癌症后说的话时,我正想痛打自己一顿。‘我不想让你对任何事情感到后悔。’她那双薄如纸的手紧紧地抓着我。我肩上的重担减轻了。)”可知,作者的母亲很爱作者,是一个有爱心的人;由此可知,最能描述作者母亲的词是“意志坚强且有爱心的”。故选C。 45.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其根据最后一段“When the race day arrived,I gave it my all for my mum and for all she had taught me and continued to teach me. As I ran, whenever I felt like slowing down, I pictured her cheering me on. Crossing the finish line, I was filled with her love and a sense of peace.(当比赛那天到来的时候,我为我的妈妈付出了我的一切,为了她教给我的一切,也为了她继续教给我的一切。当我跑步的时候,每当我想慢下来的时候,我就会想象她为我加油。冲过终点线时,我心中充满了她的爱和一种平和的感觉。)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者在母亲去世后非常难过,不知道该如何继续生活,而通过参与跑步比赛和回忆母亲的教诲,作者逐渐走出悲伤,找到内心的平静的故事;由此可知,选项A“How I Got Healed in Running(我是如何在跑步中治愈的)”最符合文章主旨,最适合作为本文标题。故选A。 C(2023·天津·高考真题) Getting the “side-eye” look from your dog can make it seem like they are making a judgement about you, and some new studies suggest they really could be. 【答案】46.A 47.D 48.A 49.B 50.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍的是一些新的研究发现,狗可能会判断他人的意图,可以读懂人类的行为,并且更喜欢那些更友好或对食物更慷慨的人。 【详解】46.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The ability to judge others’ intentions is an indicator of possessing “theory of mind” which was once thought to be unique to humans. However, new studies have shown that dogs can read human behaviour and have a preference to people who are more friendly or generous with food.(判断他人意图的能力是拥有“心智理论”的一个指标,这一度被认为是人类所独有的。然而,新的研究表明,狗可以读懂人类的行为,并且更喜欢那些更友好或对食物更慷慨的人。)”可知,判断他人意图的能力是拥有“心智理论”的一个指标,而新的研究表明,狗可以读懂人类的行为,由此可知,新研究发现狗应该也有“心智理论”。故选A项。 47.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“In the ‘unwilling’ scenario, the experimenter would hang a piece of sausage in front of the screen in a ‘teasing’ (戏耍的) manner, and approach one of the holes. But instead of passing it through the hole to the dog, they would then pull it out of its reach.(在“不情愿”的场景中,实验人员会以“戏弄”的方式在屏幕前挂一块香肠,并接近其中一个洞。但他们不是把食物从洞里递给狗,而是把食物拉到狗够不着的地方。)”可知,在不情愿场景中,实验人员不是把实物给狗吃,而是把食物拉到一个狗够不着的地方。故选D项。 48.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The researchers observed that the dogs were much more patient, making more eye contact and staying closer to the screen after the “unable” scenario played out.(研究人员观察到,在“无能为力”的场景结束后,狗狗们更有耐心了,他们会进行更多的眼神交流,并离屏幕更近。)”可知,在“无能为力”的场景结束后,狗会预实验人员进行眼神交流,并且离屏幕更近,由此可知,狗对“无能为力”的行为回应是更愿意接近实验者。故选A项。 49.细节理解题。根据倒数第三段中的“Another study from 2021 tested for “theory of mind” in dogs in a similar way, but the dogs were able to walk round the screen to obtain the treat after witnessing the experimenter’s “unwilling” or “unable” behaviour.(2021年的另一项研究以类似的方式测试了狗的“心智理论”,但狗在目睹了实验者的“不愿意”或“无能为力”行为后,能够绕着屏幕走,以获得奖励。)”可知,2021年的研究中,在狗目睹了实验者的“不愿意”或者“无能为力”后,能绕着屏幕走以获取奖励,由此可知,狗会去屏幕的另一边。故选B项。 50.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“However, new studies have shown that dogs can read human behaviour and have a preference to people who are more friendly or generous with food.(然而,新的研究表明,狗可以读懂人类的行为,并且更喜欢那些更友好或对食物更慷慨的人。)”可知,新研究表明,都能够读懂人类的行为,且喜欢那些更友好或者对食物更慷慨的人,进而在下文中的对该项研究过程进行阐述,由此可知,狗在“不愿意”和“无能为力”情况下的不同反应说明了狗能分辨“友善”和“刻薄”。故选A项。 D(25-26高一下·天津和平·阶段检测) Mom was right! B.mom is as great a psychologist as Professor Emmons C.Professor Emmons is a famous psychologist D.mom is right about her viewpoint on gratitude 53.It will be easier for you to feel grateful when ______. A.keeping a gratitude diary B.reading self-help books C.feeling self-sufficient D.remaining dependent on others 【答案】51.B 52.D 53.C 54.C 55.A 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要讨论了感恩对幸福感的重要性,介绍了加州大学心理学教授Robert A. Emmons在其著作《Thanks!》中关于感恩的研究成果,阐述了感恩的定义、表达方式以及培养感恩心态的方法。 【详解】51.主旨大意题。根据第二段“Gratitude (感激), says Robert A. Emmons, a professor of psychology at the University of California, is an important element of happiness. (加州大学心理学教授Robert A. Emmons说,感激是幸福感的一个重要组成部分)”以及全文围绕感恩与幸福感的关系展开论述可知,本文主要讨论的是感恩对幸福感的重要性。故选B。 52.推理判断题。根据第二段“In his recent book, Thanks!, Emmons uses the first major study on gratitude to prove mom’s point.(在他最近出版的Thanks!一书中,Emmons利用首个关于感恩的重要研究来证明妈妈的观点)”以及文章首句“Mom was right!(妈妈是对的!)”可推知,作者提到Emmons的书是为了证明妈妈关于感恩的观点是正确的。故选D。 53.细节理解题。根据第五段“To feel grateful in time of crisis — anger, hatred and bitterness — is easier.(在危机时刻 —— 愤怒、仇恨与痛苦交织之际 —— 心怀感恩反而更为难得。)”可知,当你在困难时期得到帮助时,更容易感到感恩。故选C。 54.推理判断题。根据第五段“Expressing gratitude shouldn’t be a reaction; it should be state of mind. (表达感恩不应该是种反应;它应该是一种心态)”以及Emmons鼓励读者写感恩日记、随时随地培养感恩心态的建议,可推知Emmons的观点是无论何时何地都要记得感恩。故选C。 55.细节理解题。根据倒数第三段“To enable and embrace gratitude, Emmons encourages the readers of Thanks! to keep a gratitude diary.(为了使感恩成为可能并拥抱感恩,Emmons鼓励Thanks!的读者写感恩日记)”可知,Emmons认为人们可以通过写感恩日记来表达感恩。故选A。 第 1 页 共 23 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 第Ⅱ卷 注意事项: 1. 用黑色墨水的钢笔或签字笔将答案写在答题卡上。 2. 本卷共6小题,共35分。 第三部分:写作 第一节:阅读表达(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 (24-25高一上·天津·期末)Andrew, a little boy, took all his primary school teachers to a nice goodbye dinner before moving on to middle school. That’s our job.’ Andrew’s kind behavior proves that teaching is indeed a meaningful job.” 56.How did the math teacher feel when invited to Andrew’s goodbye dinner? (no more than 5 words) _______________________________________________________________ 57.What was Andrew’s parents’ reaction after hearing his decision on his birthday? (no more than 10 words) _______________________________________________________________ 58.How did Andrew manage to raise $300? (no more than 10 words) _______________________________________________________________ 59.What does the underlined part in the last paragraph mean? (1 word) _______________________________________________________________ 60.What do you learn from the story? Please express it in your own words. (no more than 20 words) _______________________________________________________________ 【答案】 56.He felt surprised and moved/touched. 57.They were proud of him and decided to help him. 58.By offering services to (the) neighbors and selling his old toys. 59.Thanked/Appreciated. 60.We should learn to be thankful for what we have received and repay those who once helped us. 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了小男孩Andrew在升入中学前,用自己节省下来的钱请小学老师们吃了一顿告别晚餐,以此表达对老师们的感激之情,老师们对此非常感动。 【详解】56.考查细节理解。根据第一段中“One of his teachers, his math teacher, said, ‘I’ve been teaching for dozens of years and that has never happened.’ All of the teachers were touched by what Andrew had done for them. (他的一位老师,他的数学老师说:“我教了几十年的书,这种事从来没有发生过。”所有的老师都被安德鲁为他们所做的一切所感动)”可知,数学老师对被邀请参加Andrew的告别晚餐感到惊讶和感动。故答案为:He felt surprised and moved/touched. 57.考查细节理解。根据第二段中“His parents — his mom, a lawyer, and his dad, a teacher in a high school, said, ‘We are proud of your idea. Your teachers deserve it. We can do you some favor, like helping you contact the restaurant.’ (他的父母——他的妈妈是律师,爸爸是高中老师,他们说:“我们为你的想法感到骄傲。你的老师们值得这样。我们可以帮你一些忙,比如帮你联系餐厅。”)”可知,Andrew的父母对他的决定感到骄傲,并决定帮助他。故答案为:They were proud of him and decided to help him. 58.考查细节理解。根据第三段中“Andrew then began saving his money for the dinner. He spared time to offer services to the neighbors, such as taking care of their babies, helping them pick up newspapers, and doing gardening. What’s more, he sold his old toys on the Internet. All in all, he raised $300. (Andrew然后开始为晚餐存钱。他抽出时间为邻居们提供服务,比如照顾他们的孩子,帮他们拿报纸,做园艺工作。而且,他还在网上卖掉了自己的旧玩具。总之,他筹集了300美元)”可知,Andrew通过为邻居提供服务和出售旧玩具筹集了300美元。故答案为:By offering services to (the) neighbors and selling his old toys. 59.考查词句猜测。根据划线词前文“He said our hard work inspired his action.(他说我们的辛勤工作激发了他的行动)”和划线词后文“to us for teaching him throughout the school years. (……因为整个学年里对他的教导)”可知,Andrew在对老师的辛勤工作和教导表示感谢,故was obliged to的意思是“感谢,感激”。故答案为:Thanked/Appreciated. 60.考查开放性题目。根据第一段中“Andrew, a little boy, took all his primary school teachers to a nice goodbye dinner before moving on to middle school. He even paid the bill himself. (小男孩Andrew在升入中学前,请他所有的小学老师吃了一顿美味的告别晚餐。他甚至自己付了账)”以及最后一段中“He said our hard work inspired his action. He was obliged to us for teaching him throughout the school years. (他说我们的努力工作激发了他的行动。他感谢我们在他整个学年里对他的教导)”可知,文章主要讲述了小男孩Andrew在升入中学前,用自己节省下来的钱请小学老师们吃了一顿告别晚餐,以此表达对老师们的感激之情,老师们对此非常感动。从这个故事中我们学到了应该对我们所得到的一切心存感激,并回报那些曾经帮助过我们的人。故答案为:We should learn to be thankful for what we have received and repay those who once helped us. Dear Chris, Happy to hear from you. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Sincerely yours, Li Jin 【答案】 Dear Chris, Happy to hear from you.
