In fact, in recent years more new words and phrases are entering the language than ever before, partly due to the increased willingness of lexicographers (词典编纂者) to include them in the dictionaries. John Algeo who studies the history of language says, “As our culture changes, the language changes. American culture is going through a time of rapid change.” Technology is moving fast, which has a big effect on language. The computer world produces hundreds of new words. New terms also come from business, medicine, and other fields. Many new English words come from other languages. David Jost helps create the American Heritage Dictionary. “We constantly borrow words from other cultures,” he says. “This will go on forever in cultures.” “People in many parts of the world speak English now. That is another reason why so many new words are entering the language,” says Algeo. The American Dialect Society has a contest each year. The society selects a “new word of the year”, which gains high level of popularity on media for some days. Last year the winner was “information superhighway”, referring to a whole set of electronic network of information and people getting access to this network by computer. New words often come in several forms, such as the back-formation (like enthuse from enthusiasm), the clipping (like zoo from zoological garden), and the compounding, etc. Over time, one form tends to win out. Take the compounding for instance. “Domestic partners” has been growing popular lately, even though many terms have been used to describe couples who live together but are not married. “A new word rarely can be traced to one source,” says Algeo. “Several people fend to create a new word when a need for one exists.” “Most new words have a limited life ‘span’,” say language experts. Only a few will survive through the next 100 years. 24. What might have least effect on English language? A. Culture. B. Technology. C. Other languages. D. Language contests. 25. What does the writer want to demonstrate by mentioning “domestic partners”? A. It is a compounding word. B. New words often come in several forms. C. Over time, one form tends to win out. D. A new word rarely can be traced to one source. 26. What can we learn from the passage? A. New words occur all of a sudden. B. New words will become old or extinct. C. Information technology helps the American Dialect Society. D. American culture changes rapidly as well as English language. 27. What’s the best title of this passage? A. New Words Developing Naturally B. English Language Changing Rapidly C. English Vocabulary in a State of Development D. New Words Influencing English Language 【答案】24. D 25. C 26. B 27. In fact, in recent years more new words and phrases are entering the language than ever before, partly due to the increased willingness of lexicographers (词典编纂者) to include them in the dictionaries.(英语中新词不断出现。事实上,近年来,比以往任何时候都有更多的新词和短语进入英语,部分原因是词典编纂者越来越愿意将它们纳入词典。)”可知,文章主要是讲不断变化和发展的英语词汇。故选C。 C School is important for children and parents everywhere, and there are a lot of people who take the education of youth very seriously. Parents want their children to succeed, and a lot of children want to do well in school. A new study, which was done by Brigham Young University, has found that students perform better in school if they go on more cultural field trips. Field trips have always been seen as fun for students, and they look forward to their chances to get out of the classroom and go somewhere fun. But field trips can be difficult for teachers to plan, because they need to make sure that there is learning and value included. Some have argued about the worth of field trips, and whether they are worth a student missing a whole day out of school. However, Heidi Erickson, one of the researchers in the study, stated that there is no harm in taking students out of the classroom, even for multiple (多个的) days throughout the year, as long as they are learning and in an appropriate space. The study had 4th- and 5th-grade students from 15 schools take part in this study. They went on three cultural field trips during the school year, to an art museum, a live theatre performance, and a classical concert. Then the researchers looked at their school year compared to students who did not take part and this is where they saw the difference. The study found that students who went on multiple field trips a year had higher test scores, performed better in class and had a greater cultural responsibility over time when compared to students who did not go on as many field trips. Although there has been a remarkable decrease in the number of field trips due to various reasons, this new study is showing the true value of field trips, especially when they are considered “cultural”. 28. Why is it hard for teachers to plan field trips? A. Teachers are concerned about the price. B. Teachers have to ensure students’ meaningful experiences. C. Students have to miss a whole day out of school. D. Teachers don’t believe in the worth of field trips. 29. What is Heidi Erickson’s attitude to cultural field trips? A. Skeptical. B. Concerned. C. Favourable. D. Tolerant. 30. How did the researchers draw the conclusion? A. By asking students questions. B. By taking field trips themselves. C. By doing surveys among teachers. D. By comparing different groups of students. 31. What is the main idea of the text? A. Cultural field trips improve students’ performance. B. Students perform better in an appropriate space. C. Why cultural field trips are popular with students. D. Why the number of students’ field trips is dropping. 【答案】28. B 29. C 30. D 31. This tiny flying machine can fly non-stop as long as it is in the sunlight because of its special new motor (发动机). Researchers at Beihang University in Beijing, who are experts in flight science, designed this solar-powered drone. The size and the heft are now only 1/10 and 1/600 of the previous world’s smallest and lightest solar-powered aircraft, respectively. Small flying machines like this are very useful. They can help with watching the environment, finding people in trouble, and other jobs. They can take pictures, find objects, and carry small things in tight spaces. But a big problem is that they cannot fly for a long time. Usually, small drones use motors that can get too hot when they run fast. This makes them waste a lot of energy. Using sunlight for power is a good idea, but a smaller drone has less space to collect sunlight, which means less energy. This was explained by the lead researcher, Mr. Qi. In their study, the team said that flying machines lighter than 10 grams usually can only fly for about 10 minutes. To fix this problem, Qi and his team made a new kind of motor. It uses a force called the Coulomb force to make a blade spin. The drone is named CoulombFly after this motor. The study shows that for very light flying machines, this new motor can be over 10 times better at using energy than old motors. It needs much less power to stay in the air. Before this, a team from Harvard University made a very small aircraft called RoboBee in 2019. But it needed a very strong, man-made light to fly, which is much brighter than the sun. The new CoulombFly drone can fly non-stop using just normal sunlight. Researchers say this is a very big step forward. 32. Which of the following does the new drone perform better in? A. Overall safety. B. High speed. C. Continuous flight. D. Deep exploration. 33. What does the underlined word “heft” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Weight. B. Length. C. Power. D. Quality. 34. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The practical use of drones. B. The problems of flying machines. C. The difficulty in designing drones. D. The efforts made by the researchers. 35. Why is RoboBee mentioned in the last paragraph? A. To explain man-made light use. B. To show drones’ popularity. C. To introduce a research team. D. To stress CoulombFly’s advantage. 【答案】32. C 33. A 34. A 35. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了北京航空航天大学研发的微型太阳能无人机CoulombFly,能耗低、续航久,仅靠自然光即可持续飞行,突破了小型无人机的续航局限,优势显著。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“This tiny flying machine can fly non-stop as long as it is in the sunlight because of its special new motor (发动机). (这种小型飞行器只要处于阳光照射下就能持续飞行,这是因为其配备了新型特殊发动机的缘故。)”以及最后一段“The new CoulombFly drone can fly non-stop using just normal sunlight. (新型CoulombFly无人机仅依靠普通阳光就能实现不间断飞行。)”可知,这款新无人机的优势在于能依靠自然光持续飞行。故选C。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第一段“A very small drone (无人机), no bigger than a hand and lighter than a piece of paper, is getting a lot of attention. (一种非常小巧的无人机,其大小不超过一只手掌,重量还比一张纸还轻,正受到广泛关注。)”以及划线词后文“only 1/10 and 1/600 of the previous world’s smallest and lightest solar-powered aircraft, respectively (仅为此前世界上最小、最轻的太阳能飞机的十分之一和六百分之一)”可知,句中 size(尺寸)对应前文的“no bigger than a hand”,而heft对应“lighter than a piece of paper”,且与后文的lightest相呼应,由此可推断heft的意思是“重量”。故选A。 【34题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“Small flying machines like this are very useful. They can help with watching the environment, finding people in trouble, and other jobs. They can take pictures, find objects, and carry small things in tight spaces. But a big problem is that they cannot fly for a long time. (像这样的小型飞行器非常有用。它们能够协助监测环境、寻找遇险人员以及执行其他任务。它们能够拍照、发现物体,并能在狭小空间内携带小物件。但一个主要问题是,它们无法长时间飞行。)”可知,第三段主要讲了无人机的实际应用。故选A。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The study shows that for very light flying machines, this new motor can be over 10 times better at using energy than old motors. How to Be an Active Listener In a world full of noise, truly listening to someone is a rare and valuable gift. Active listening is more than just hearing words. ____36____ Here are some tips to help you become a better listener. Pay Full Attention When you’re in a conversation, give the speaker your undivided attention. ____37____ Put away your phone, turn off the TV, and make eye contact. This non-verbal cue shows the speaker that you are focused on them and that what they are saying is important to you. It also helps you to pick up on their body language and other non-verbal signals. Show You’re Listening ____38____ This can be as simple as nodding your head occasionally. A simple nod can show you understand, and an occasional “uh-huh” or “I see” can encourage the speaker to continue. These small signals show that you are listening attentively and following their train of thought without interrupting (打断) their flow. Avoid Interrupting The Speaker Interrupting sends the message that you think your own thoughts are more important than the speaker’s. It can be discouraging for the speaker and can break their concentration. Wait for them to pause before you ask questions or offer your own viewpoint. ____39____ Respond Properly Active listening is a model for respect and understanding. You are gaining information and viewpoint. ____40____ Be open and honest in your response, but always be respectful. Share your own thoughts and feelings without judging or ignoring what the other person has shared. A. It requires respect and patience. B. Try to finish their sentences for them. C. The wind felt cool on his face as he thought about that day’s soccer game. His teammates said he played well. One even said that he would become a famous player one day. That was Lucas’s dream — to play for his country and make his mother proud. He was deep in thought when Eden, Lucas’s friend and fan at school, sat next to him. Eden often watched his hero Lucas play soccer. He admired Lucas because Lucas was popular, good at soccer, and had nice shoes. Eden felt shy about his own old shoes. They were dirty and had holes. Each time he sat next to Lucas, he tried to hide his shoes under the seat and Lucas didn’t notice it. Another day on the bus, Lucas happily told Eden that he had saved enough money for new shoes and planned to buy them as soon as he got off the bus. At this moment, the bus suddenly hit something on the road. One of Eden’s shoes slipped out (滑出) from under the seat. Everyone could see how old and broken it was. Eden was so embarrassed (尴尬的) that he covered his face with his hands. Lucas felt sorry for him. They didn’t talk for the rest of the ride. But when they got off, Lucas asked Eden to go to the shoe store together. 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Though Eden felt surprised at Lucas’s invitation, he followed Lucas to the shoe store. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As Lucas went to pay for Eden’s shoes, the shopkeeper refused and instead showed him his favourite shoes. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 One possible version: Though Eden felt surprised at Lucas’s invitation, he followed Lucas to the shoe store. There, the shopkeeper brought out the orange soccer shoes Lucas dreamed to buy. But Lucas pointed to another pair and said, “A smaller size, please. They’re for my friend.” Eden’s face turned red. He tried to speak, but Lucas stopped him. “You always say I’m your hero. Today, let me be one.” The shopkeeper helped Eden try on the new shoes. They fit perfectly. As Lucas went to pay for Eden’s shoes, the shopkeeper refused and instead showed him his favourite shoes. “These are for you,” he said. “A true hero deserves a reward.” The two boys were both surprised and filled with gratitude at the shopkeeper’s words. Touched deeply, Lucas realized that his mother would be prouder of this day’s act of kindness than any soccer goal. Lucas had not only gained a new pair of shoes but also the satisfaction of making a real difference. 词汇激活 行为类 ①值得:deserve/be worthy of ②试穿:try on / fit on 情绪类 ①惊讶的:surprised/astonished ②更自豪:be prouder of/take more pride in 【点睛】【高分句型1】There, the shopkeeper brought out the orange soccer shoes Lucas dreamed to buy.(运用了省略了关系代词that的定语从句) 【高分句型2】Touched deeply, Lucas realized that his mother would be prouder of this day’s act of kindness than any soccer goal.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一节听下面五段录音。每段录音后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段录音后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段录音播放两遍。现在你有5秒钟的时间阅读第一小题的有关内容。听下面的录音,回答第一小题。Did you know that reducing water waste can have a significant impact on our local ecosystem? New Words Influencing English Language C School is important for children and parents everywhere, and there are a lot of people who take the education of youth very seriously. D A very small drone (无人机), no bigger than a hand and lighter than a piece of paper, is getting a lot of attention. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Be an Active Listener In a world full of noise, truly listening to someone is a rare and valuable gift. C. Ask clarifying questions if you are confused about something. D. Stay focused and listen carefully to the person speaking. E. It’s about understanding the complete message being sent. F. You are not there to immediately solve their problems. G. Use your own body language and gestures to express your attention. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Two years ago, a man named David from a film company visited me.
