Thanks to technology, the way we communicate with others has greatly changed. How do you feel about it? Would you prefer to live in a world with or without mobile phones?
I ordered some snacks on my phone the other afternoon. Once I got home from work that evening, I saw they were already at my door. So fast! Have you ever thought about how people in the past communicated and did things without mobile phones? Take the post for example. Before phones, if you wanted to keep in touch with someone far away, you needed to send them a letter in the mail. When my mum was in primary school, she used to do this with her “pen pal”. A pen pal is a name for a person you keep in touch with mainly through postal mail. My mum would write to her pen pal every few months, and then, after a little while, her pen pal would write back. Later, once email became a common thing, sending letters by post felt so slow to people. It became known as “snail mail”!
What if you were at an airport in the time before mobile phones? My dad said that in the 1970s, there used to be message boards at some airports. If you needed to exit the airport and wanted to leave a message for a friend who would be arriving later, you could write them a message and stick it on the message board. Then, your friend could check the board later and see what you wrote to them!
23. Why do people call postal letters “snail mail”?
A. Because snails like writing letters.
B. Because sending letters by post is slow.
C. Because pen pals are as slow as snails.
24. How did the writer’s mum keep in touch with her pen pal?
A. By talking on phones.
B. By writing letters.
C. By visiting every few months.
25. Where could people leave messages at some airports in the 1970s?
A. On the message boards. B. At the information desk. C. On the door of the exit.
26. What is the story mainly about?
A. Ways of making friends in the past.
B. How people kept in touch before.
C. The importance of communication.

In July 2026, Wang Hong won the Fields Medal (菲尔兹奖), the top prize in math. To celebrate her success, her hometown newspaper Guangxi Daily published an article called “Wang’s Conjecture (猜想)” on July 25. It took nearly half of the front page (头版).
The headline (标题) has special meanings. “Wang” is Wang Hong’s family name and shows that she is an important world-famous woman mathematician. “Conjecture” refers to the difficult math problem she solved, and also her long hard research experience.

We are now in the digital age. Online information changes fast and is not always complete. This newspaper brought new energy to print media People’s love for the paper shows society’s great respect for researchers who spend their whole lives studying math.
27. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us?
A. Few people liked the special issue.
B. The special issue was very popular.
C. The newspaper only sold papers online.
28. What does the underlined word “resell” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Sell again. B. Buy again. C. Read again.
29. What do we know of Wang Hong’s parents from paragraph 4?
A. They were both math teachers.
B. They helped her follow her curiosity.
C. They asked her to win the Fields Medal.
30. What is the best title for the passage?
A. A Popular Special Issue About the Mathematician Wang
B. How to Learn Math Well

Three years later, Braille developed a shorter and simpler touch system based on the night-reading code system. He used six raised dots with different combinations (组合) to stand for each letter. ____34____ Blind people could read much faster and more easily.

Seeing wildfires burn the forest made them sad, so they wanted to help. They created a robot called Trovador. It looks like a small dog and has four legs. The robot is light, so it does not hurt the soil. It uses AI to check the soil before planting trees. Trovador can work for three hours at one time and plant up to two hundred young trees every hour. Marta and Sebastião hope to help forests grow again with their invention.

When the special issue (特刊) came out, readers across China bought it quickly. Some people tried to resell the newspapers at higher prices. To meet people’s needs, the newspaper printed more copies and opened official online shops. Readers could buy the papers at the normal price.
Wang Hong grew up in Guilin. Her parents, a math teacher and an English teacher, built a relaxing learning environment for her. They encouraged her to follow her curiosity and face troubles calmly. Good family education helped her with her research on hard math problems.

Some people tried to resell the newspapers at higher prices. To meet people’s needs, the newspaper printed more copies...”,说明特刊非常受欢迎,以至于出现高价倒卖和加印的现象。因此选B。
第三段提到“Some people tried to resell the newspapers at higher prices.”,结合语境,指有些人想以更高的价格再次出售报纸,因此“resell”意为“再次出售”,即Sell again。
第四段说明王虹的父母是数学老师和英语老师,他们“built a relaxing learning environment for her. They encouraged her to follow her curiosity”,即他们帮助她跟随自己的好奇心。
Have you ever wondered how blind people read? Thanks to a system invented by Louis Braille, blind people can learn to use their fingers to read.
In 1809, Braille was born in a small town in France. ____31____ Later, his other eye was infected (传染), resulting in complete blindness. His blindness inspired him to become an inventor who made contributions to all blind people.
When Braille was ten years old, his parents sent him to a special school for blind students. Braille learned how to read at this school. He was first taught to read by feeling raised letters on paper. ____32____ Too many letters felt the same, for they had similar shapes.
Then, in 1821, Braille heard about a night-reading code system. It was a 12-dot (12凸点) system that was created for night-time communication between soldiers. However, this system didn’t allow the fingertip to cover a whole letter. The readers had to move their fingers to feel the letters. ____33____
Three years later, Braille developed a shorter and simpler touch system based on the night-reading code system. He used six raised dots with different combinations (组合) to stand for each letter. ____34____ Blind people could read much faster and more easily.
Braille died in 1852, but his touch system lives on. ____35____
A. It allowed a blind person to feel a whole letter without moving his or her finger.
B. Now people call this touch system Braille in honor of Louis Braille.
C. Braille thought that the night-reading code system could be improved for blind people.
D. However, this was slow and difficult.
E. When he was three, he accidentally hurt one of his eyes when he was playing.
E 32. D 33. C 34. A 35. B
空后“Later, his other eye was infected, resulting in complete blindness”说明此处需要衔接他眼睛受伤,最终全盲的经历,选项E“When he was three, he accidentally hurt one of his eyes when he was playing.”
空前“He was first taught to read by feeling raised letters on paper.”、空后“Too many letters felt the same, for they had similar shapes”说明此处要转折指出这种摸凸起字母的旧方法的缺陷,选项D“However, this was slow and difficult.”
空前“However, this system didn’t allow the fingertip to cover a whole letter. The readers had to move their fingers to feel the letters”、空后“Three years later, Braille developed a shorter and simpler touch system based on the night-reading code system”说明此处需要衔接他发现旧军用系统缺陷、萌生改进想法的过渡环节,选项C“Braille thought that the night-reading code system could be improved for blind people.”
空前“He used six raised dots with different combinations to stand for each letter.”、空后“Blind people could read much faster and more easily”说明此处要解释新六点盲文系统的优势原理,选项A“It allowed a blind person to feel a whole letter without moving his or her finger.”
空前“Braille died in 1852, but his touch system lives on.” B“Now people call this touch system Braille in honor of Louis Braille.”
