A survey on weekly smartphone use
Recently, we did a survey on weekly smartphone use of eighth graders in Fuli Middle School. Here is the result.
55% of the students use smartphones to look up useful information and learn English in their free time. However, 45% of them spend plenty of time playing computer games and watching short videos. Smartphones can greatly help us with our study and open our eyes to the outside world. But they may waste our time and money. What's more, using phones for too long is bad for our eyes and influences our normal study.
In my opinion, we should use smartphones properly. We should make it a helpful tool for our study and keep away from meaningless online activities.

Last week, our history teacher gave us a special task: to “travel” to ancient Guangxi by using VR glasses. When I put them on, I suddenly found myself standing in a busy place by the side of the sea with many ships and people in old-style clothes. It was the starting point of the Sea Silk Road over 2000 years ago.
My guide, named Li, smiled and said, “Welcome! This place was famous for trading long ago.” Li showed me a beautiful special bronze lamp (青铜灯) shaped like a bird. “This lamp is very special. It can use water to keep the air clean.” He explained. Then, we met a foreign trader. Li traded beautiful silk for sweet-smelling spices (香料) with him. We used simple English, “Two boxes of silk for one box of spices?” The trader nodded, and everyone laughed. Next, we visited a workshop where people made big drums. “These drums are the symbols of Guangxi culture. They are important for our festivals.” Li said. I tried to draw a picture on a drum, but my lines were in a mess. Li said, “It doesn’t matter. Practise more and you will do better!”
When the trip ended, I took off the glasses. I felt excited and proud. I really understood the history of ancient Guangxi through this trip. I learned that the history of ancient Guangxi was full of smart ideas and happy stories. I had not only “visited” the past, but also understood how Guangxi connected with the world long ago. Now, whenever I see drums or lamps in museums, I remember my special trip to ancient Guangxi. History is never just old stories—it shapes who we are today!

The third month of the school year has now arrived. Have you noticed how, when we talk about numbers, we naturally think of the number three?
In some ways, “three” is a number that has magical powers. You can find that this number is all around us. Everything has a beginning, a middle and an end. We eat three meals a day. Traffic lights all over the world use three colors: red, yellow and green. And there is the rule of three. It is an old writing technique. According to this rule, things can always become more satisfying to readers if they come in threes. Have you ever noticed how powerful brands (品牌) use the rule of three to improve their marketing? “Just do it.” “I’m loving it.” “Coke is it.” All of these famous slogans (标语) are three words long.
But what is it about the number three that makes it so magical? Well, we know that the human brain is very complex (复杂的). However, it enjoys thinking in patterns (模式). It is always trying to find patterns in seemingly unconnected information. What’s more, if there are no patterns, our brains will create them. And three is the smallest number needed to form a pattern. As the old saying goes, “Once is luck, twice is coincidence (巧合) and three times is a pattern.” Moreover, our brains can remember only a little information at any given moment. An audience (观众) will usually only remember three things from a speech. Do you want your audience to remember your speech in their minds deeply? Present it to them in groups of three.
If we properly use the rule of three in our daily lives, we can make many things easier. For example, many people like to add lots of tasks to their to-do lists. However, experts (专家) suggest they should limit themselves to just three tasks. These top three tasks should be hard enough to be challenging while still being achievable. And the next time you are making New Year’s tasks, consider listing only three things to work on. The longer your list is, ________.
26.The underlined word “technique” in paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.course B.limit C.skill D.mistake
27.What example does the writer list to explain the rule of three in marketing?
A.Three meals eaten daily. B.Three slogans that consist of three words.
C.Three types of advertising methods. D.Three different colors in traffic lights.
28.According to the article, big brands prefer three-word slogans because ___________.
A.three is a lucky number in many cultures
B.people probably trust shorter slogans more
C.patterns can only form when three items are used
D.three-word slogans are easier for people to remember
29.What advice is given in the article on making to-do lists?
A.Care about tasks that are hard to reach.
B.Choose tasks that are easy to complete.
C.List as many tasks as possible to stay organized.
D.Limit the list to three difficult but achievable tasks.
30.Which of the following best fits the blank __________ in the last paragraph?
A.the happier you will feel B.the less possible it is to achieve it
C.the faster you will improve D.the better you can manage your time
C
Today, humans are the main species on Earth, but if we go back millions of years, dinosaurs ruled the planet. They remained the most important living things for about 60 million years — much longer than humans have lived. Dinosaurs died out because of something unknown long before the first humans appeared.
Back then, the Earth looked very different. Many scientists believe that all the continents were joined together as one big land. Over millions of years, these continents slowly moved apart. This movement formed the world we see today. That’s why dinosaur fossils are found everywhere. The climate was also warmer, with little temperature change. There were no clear seasons like we have now.
Dinosaurs did not live alone on Earth. They lived with many other animals. On land, there were small early mammals, flying animals, and other reptiles (e.g., crocodiles and lizards) — many still live today. In the oceans, there were many fish, sharks, and shellfish. There were also lots of plants everywhere. These plants provided enough food for all the animals and made them live a peaceful life in nature.
Why did the dinosaurs die out? There are many guesses, but no one knows the exact answer. Some scientists think a huge rock from space hit the Earth. Others believe that big volcanoes erupted and changed the climate. This mystery makes dinosaurs even more interesting to us now.
31.What can we learn about humans and dinosaurs millions of years ago?
A.Dinosaurs and humans never lived on Earth together.
B.Human activities caused the dinosaurs’ disappearance.
C.Dinosaurs ruled the Earth for a shorter time than humans have.
D.Humans and dinosaurs lived together on Earth for a short time.
32.Why are the dinosaur fossils found everywhere according to the passage?
A.People moved the fossils around. B.The continents moved slowly apart.
C.Dinosaurs travelled to different continents. D.The climate change formed different fossils.
33.What was the Earth’s climate like in the dinosaurs’ time?
A.It was much colder with longer winters. B.It was similar to today, just a little warmer.
C.It was warmer and did not have clear seasons. D.It always changed and often had bad weather.
34.Why does the writer mention “crocodiles and lizards” in paragraph 3?
A.To tell us dinosaurs looked very similar to these animals.
B.To introduce what animals in the dinosaurs’ time looked like.
C.To explain that the climate then was helpful to these animals.
D.To show that some animals in the dinosaurs’ time are still alive.
35.What is probably the best title for the passage?
A.Ancient Earth’s Climate B.Dinosaur Fossils Worldwide
C.Dinosaur Disappearance Mystery D.Dinosaurs and Their Ancient World
Last month, I decided to try a challenge: living without my smartphone for one whole week. I had become so dependent on it for everything—chatting, watching videos, and even knowing the time.
36 My hand kept automatically reaching for my pocket, only to find it empty. I felt anxious and disconnected. To avoid temptation, I left my phone in a locked drawer at home. 37 This simple act forced me to plan my day instead of instantly looking things up online.
38 I started noticing small details I usually missed: the patterns of clouds in the sky, the different sounds of birds in the morning, and the actual expressions on my classmates’ faces during conversations. My mind felt quieter and more focused. I finished my homework faster because I wasn’t constantly checking messages.
When the week finally ended, I didn’t immediately rush back to my old habits. I realized my phone was a tool, not a necessity. I now turn it off during meals and family time. 39 It pushes our brains to be creative, to observe, and to simply think. I even started drawing again, a hobby I had abandoned years ago.
I’m not against technology. 40 But I’ve learned that sometimes, the best way to connect with the world is to first disconnect from the screen.
A.Instead, I carried a book, a notebook, and an old watch.
B.However, the first day was much harder than I had imagined.
C.By the fourth day, something interesting began to happen.
D.The experiment taught me that boredom can actually be useful.
E.My friends thought I was crazy and bet I couldn’t last two days.
F.It was a small change, but it made me feel strangely independent.

In the vast universe of space exploration, Luan Enjie stands out as a top leader. He was born in Baicheng, Jilin Province on 25 October 1940.
Luan Enjie was smart at school. In 1960, he started his studies at Harbin Institute of Technology. Later, he went to Tsinghua University. He then devoted himself to China’s space projects.
In 1990, a rocket took off successfully. After seeing the rocket fly, Luan Enjie first thought about exploring the Moon.
In 2007, China launched Chang’e-1 into space. This was the start of China’s journey to explore the Moon, and Luan Enjie was one of the key experts behind it. He spent many sleepless nights making sure everything went well. Even when he was 68 years old, he didn’t stop. Nine months after Chang’e-1’s success, he became an advisor, giving advice for both manned spaceflights and Moon exploration.
In 2020, Chang’e-5 landed on the Moon and brought back about 1,731 grams of Moon rock. At 80, Luan Enjie still went to welcome it back. His love for space is as strong as a rocket’s thrust (推力).
In 2015, the International Astronomical Union named an asteroid “Luan Enjie Star” to honour China’s Moon work and Luan Enjie’s hard work. In August 2025, Luan Enjie received the “Touching China” award.
Luan Enjie once said, “Going to the Moon is not my own thing. It is a matter of the country.”
Behind these inspiring space projects are many workers like Luan Enjie. He is not only a great man in China’s space industry but also a role model for people to learn from.

He is not only a great man in China’s space industry but also a role model for people to learn from.

beautiful美丽的,形容词原级;more beautiful更美丽的,形容词比较级;most beautiful最美丽的,形容词最高级;the most beautiful最美丽的,形容词最高级前加the。
around周围;for为了;up向上;down向下。 故选A。

but但是;and和;so所以;or或者。 故选A。

根据下文“to see the small parts inside”以及“His room was full of broken clocks, radios, and many small pieces”,Leo想要看玩具内部的零件,房间里还有很多拆坏的物品,说明他喜欢“拆开”玩具,opening“打开,拆开”符合语境。
根据上文“From a young age, Leo loved learning how things worked”以及下文“he was really excited”,科学展和科学相关,是Leo感兴趣的内容,他才会很兴奋,favorite“最喜欢的”符合语境。

根据下文“to spend more time on the machine”,他想要花更多时间研究机器,所以应该是醒得“更早”,earlier“更早地”符合语境。

A.the happier you will feel B.the less possible it is to achieve it
C.the faster you will improve D.the better you can manage your time
根据第二段“It is an old writing technique.”
27.根据第二段“Have you ever noticed how powerful brands … All of these famous slogans (标语) are three words long.”
28.根据第二段“According to this rule, things can always become more … the rule of three to improve their marketing?”和第三段“Moreover, our brains can remember only a little information at any given moment.”
29.根据最后一段“However, experts (专家) suggest they should limit themselves to just three tasks. These top three tasks should be hard enough to be challenging while still being achievable.”
30.最后一段“And the next time you are making New Year’s tasks, consider listing only three things to work on.”
C.Dinosaur Disappearance Mystery D.Dinosaurs and Their Ancient World
【答案】31.A 32.B 33.C 34.D 35.D

32.第二段提到:“these continents slowly moved apart. That’s why dinosaur fossils are found everywhere.”,说明大陆缓慢分离是化石遍布各地的原因。
33.第二段提到:“The climate was also warmer... There were no clear seasons like we have now.”,说明当时气候更温暖,无分明四季。
34.第三段提到:“other reptiles (e.g., crocodiles and lizards) — many still live today.”,举例证明恐龙时代的部分生物至今依然存在。

例文:
A survey on weekly smartphone use
Recently, we did a survey on weekly smartphone use of eighth graders in Fuli Middle School. Here is the result.
55% of the students use smartphones to look up useful information and learn English in their free time. However,45% of them spend plenty of time playing computer games and watching short videos.

Today, humans are the main species on Earth, but if we go back millions of years, dinosaurs ruled the planet
They remained the most important living things for about 60 million years-much longer than humans have lived.
Dinosaurs died out because of something unknown long before the first humans appeared.
Back then, the Earth looked very different. Many scientists believe that all the continents were joined
together as one big land.Over millions of years, these continents slowly moved apart. This movement formed the
world we see today. That's why dinosaur fossils are found everywhere. The climate was also warmer, with little
temperature change. There were no clear seasons like we have now.
Dinosaurs did not live alone on Earth. They lived with many other animals. On land, there were small early
mammals,flying animals,and other reptiles (e.g.,crocodiles and lizards)-many still live today.In the oceans,
there were many fish, sharks, and shellfish. There were also lots of plants everywhere. These plants provided
enough food for all the animals and made them live a peaceful life in nature.
Why did the dinosaurs die out? There are many guesses, but no one knows the exact answer. Some
scientists think a huge rock from space hit the Earth.Others believe that big volcanoes erupted and changed the
climate. This mystery makes dinosaurs even more interesting to us now.
31.What can we learn about humans and dinosaurs millions of years ago?
A.Dinosaurs and humans never lived on Earth together
B.Human activities caused the dinosaurs'disappearance.
C.Dinosaurs ruled the Earth for a shorter time than humans have.

to observe, and to simply think.I even started drawing again,a hobby I had abandoned years ago.
I'm not against technology.40 But I've learned that sometimes, the best way to connect with the
world is to first disconnect from the screen.
A.Instead,I carried a book,a notebook,and an old watch
B.However, the first day was much harder than I had imagined.
C.By the fourth day, something interesting began to happen.
D.The experiment taught me that boredom can actually be useful.
E.My friends thought I was crazy and bet I couldn't last two days.
F.It was a small change, but it made me feel strangely independent.
