In middle school, I was one of the “gifted” kids. For those three short years, I felt like I was on top of the world.
Then high school began. All of a sudden, I was no longer at the top of my class. My papers were filled with corrections, not praise.
My parents didn’t understand. From what they had known about me when I was younger, they thought that I was perfect, and so I had to be perfect all the time. Their worries grew — they began to search for private teachers and would often talk to me, trying to find out what was wrong with me. My concern grew too — the pressure to live up to their expectations only became greater. I found myself worrying about school all the time. I even questioned myself — who was I, if not the perfect student?
Watching Simone Biles drop out of the Olympics made me think of myself. Simone Biles was the GOAT. If there was any person we knew we could count on to win, it was Simone.
Unlike me, Simone recognized the pressure she was under. She had the bravery and self-reflective (自我反思的) skills to be able to realize that the pressure of perfection was too much for her. Simone Biles has taught me a very important lesson: to be the greatest person of all time, mental (心理的) health must come first. Instead of getting down on myself for not becoming the best, I need to learn from Simone and be kind to myself by taking a break or even asking for help if necessary.
24. How did the author feel in high school?
A. Bored ana tired. B. Excited and surprised. C. Confident and proud. D. Nervous and anxious.

C. They managed to lower the author’s pressure. D. They pushed the author to learn from Simone Biles.
26. What do the underlined words “the GOAT” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. The best ever. B. The most grateful of all time.
C. The worst ever. D. The most graceful of all time.
27. How did Simone Biles influence the author?
A. She encouraged the author never to give up.
B. She taught the author useful self-reflective skills.
C. She showed the author the true meaning of perfection.
D. She made the author realize the value of mental health.
D 25. B 26. A 27. D

C
Many secondary school students from Hong Kong get jobs to make money or do a lot of studying during the summer. As for me, I joined the Care and Community Project in Tanzania, East Africa, which was organised by Projects Abroad. I was there for two weeks.
Every single day we, the volunteers, would head out from where we were staying to the Relini Centre. The centre is a school, and we were there to teach the children simple English and mathematics. The classrooms were small and the students would sit there quietly waiting for their teachers to arrive, showing great eagerness to learn new things.
One of the students, called Afia, was trying to learn how to write numbers from one to 10, but she kept having trouble with six. My Swahili wasn’t very good — I only knew some basic phrases — so I kept telling her: “Soma sita.” I thought I was telling Afia to write down the number six, but it turned out I was telling her to read out loud the number six, which is why she would keep saying “Sita” back to me instead of copying down what I wrote.
In the end, I held her hand and showed her how to write the number, and after many attempts, she was able to do it on her own. I was very proud. It felt as if I had made a difference in her life.
We also fixed up the dining hall together — a difficult task as we had to transport mud (泥) and paint under the burning sun. But we didn’t slack off (懈怠), as we knew our work would create a better place for the children to learn.
I know my two weeks in Africa may not have made a big difference, but I hope that I have helped in some small way. Even the tiniest of ripples (涟漪) can disturb (搅乱) a lake, and I hope with this article I can move students just like me to do something.
28. What did the author do during the summer?
A. She found a well-paid job. B. She did a lot of extra studying.
C. She visited an old friend abroad. D. She worked as a teaching volunteer.
29. What problem did the author face in getting along with Afia?
A. They faced a big age gap.
B. They had limited time together.
C. The author struggled with the local language.
D. The author had difficulty counting large numbers.
30. Why did the author and her partners fix up the Relini Centre’s dining hall?
A. To get to know each other better. B. To develop more practical skills.
C. To make a better learning environment. D. To encourage more kids to join.
31. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Big changes start with little steps
B. Visiting a place is the key to understanding it
C. Showing is more effective than telling in education
D. Hard conditions inspire a greater interest in learning
D 29. C 30. C 31. A
根据第二段中的“Every single day we, the volunteers, would head out from where we were staying to the Relini Centre. The centre is a school, and we were there to teach the children simple English and mathematics. (每天,我们志愿者都会从住宿的地方前往Relini中心。该中心是一所学校,我们在那里教孩子们简单的英语和数学)”可知,作者夏天时担任教学志愿者。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“My Swahili wasn’t very good — I only knew some basic phrases — so I kept telling her: “Soma sita.” I thought I was telling Afia to write down the number six, but it turned out I was telling her to read out loud the number six, which is why she would keep saying “Sita” back to me instead of copying down what I wrote. (我的斯瓦希里语不是很好——我只知道一些基本短语——所以我一直对她说:“Soma sita”。我以为我在告诉Afia写下数字6,但结果我是在告诉她大声读出数字6,这就是为什么她会一直对我说“Sita”,而不是抄下我写的东西)”可知,作者在与Afia相处时面临的问题是她在当地语言上有困难。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中的“But we didn’t slack off (懈怠), as we knew our work would create a better place for the children to learn. (但我们没有懈怠,因为我们知道我们的工作将为孩子们创造一个更好的学习场所)”可知,作者和伙伴一起修缮Relini中心的餐厅是为了营造更好的学习环境。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“I know my two weeks in Africa may not have made a big difference, but I hope that I have helped in some small way. Even the tiniest of ripples (涟漪) can disturb (搅乱) a lake, and I hope with this article I can move students just like me to do something. (我知道我在非洲的两周可能没有带来太大的改变,但我希望我在一些小的方面提供了帮助。即使是最小的涟漪也能搅动湖泊,我希望通过这篇文章,我能感动像我一样的学生去做一些事情)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者通过小小的志愿行动带来积极影响,所以,A项“大改变始于小步骤”为最佳标题。
D
For all my seventeen years, New York City has been my home. It’s a place of energy, though often seen as cold and distant. Yet, personal connections can still happen here.
One cold November, my high school soccer team was heading home to Manhattan after a game in the Bronx. Twenty of us piled onto the D train, loud and full of energy, filling the car with our talking and laughter. To pass the time on the long ride, we started singing loudly, our excitement making up for our lack of musical talent.
Our noise was met with mostly unhappy looks from the other passengers. Then, an old homeless man with worn-out clothes and a calm and respectful manner entered the car. He announced he would sing a few songs. While most people ignored him, we watched closely.
He began with “Joy to the World.” His strong and clear voice was so moving that we found ourselves joining in. The atmosphere (气氛) in the car changed; people who had been keeping to themselves now listened, enjoying this special moment. He sang a few more songs, including one of his own, and was met with applause.
For his final song, he chose “God Bless America.” This time, not just our group, but everyone in the car joined in singing. The powerful, united singing drew people from other subway cars to ours. I saw a woman holding a baby, singing with tears streaming down her cheeks.
In that moment, a group of strangers — reserved New Yorkers, high school girls, and a homeless man — came together through songs, allowing our voices and hearts to become one. It is a moment whose power will stay with me forever.
32. What do people often think of New Yorkers?
A. They are always in a hurry.
B. They care little about others.
C. They are proud of their soccer teams.
D. They are concerned about the homeless.
33. Why did we begin to sing on the D train?
A. To show off their beautiful voice.
B. To cover the loud noise of the D train.
C. To kill the time during the long ride.
D. To attract the attention of other passengers.
34. How did the atmosphere change after the old man started singing?
A. It remained largely unchanged.
B. It became more silent and serious.
C. It became strange and uncomfortable.
D. It became warmer and more united.
35. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To explain the rules of behavior on the D train.
B. To discuss the musical talent of the homeless man.
C. To tell the story of an unexpected human connection.
D. To describe the challenges of living in New York.
B 33. C 34. D 35. C

The powerful, united singing drew people from other subway cars to ours.(最后一首歌,他选了《God Bless America》。

Get organized from day one. High school brings more subjects, more homework, and more deadlines than middle school. ____36____ Keep a planner or use a digital calendar to track assignments, tests, and important dates. Set aside a specific time each day for homework and review. This simple habit will prevent last-minute panic.
Build positive relationships with your teachers. Unlike middle school, high school teachers often see hundreds of students each day. ____37____ Don’t be afraid to ask questions in class or seek extra help after school. Showing that you are motivated and engaged can make a big difference.
Get involved in school activities. One of the best ways to feel connected to your new school is to join clubs, sports teams, or volunteer groups. ____38____ It also helps you develop new skills and interests outside the classroom. Don’t worry if you don’t find your perfect fit right away—try different activities and see what you enjoy.
____39____ Many students feel pressure to fit in, but the friends who accept you for who you are will be the ones worth keeping. Don’t change yourself just to impress others.
Take care of your health. ____40____ Eat balanced meals, get enough sleep, and make time for exercise. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, and both are essential for academic success.

空格是本段的主旨句,后文“Many students feel pressure to fit in, but the friends who accept you for who you are will be the ones worth keeping. Don’t change yourself just to impress others.( 许多学生都感到压力,想要融入集体,但真正值得珍惜的,是那些接纳你本来样子的朋友。不要为了取悦他人而改变自己。)”核心内容为“不必为了融入而改变自己,接受真实的你的朋友才值得交往”,围绕“做自己”展开。B 选项“Be yourself.( 做你自己。)”精准概括了本段主旨,适合作为段落小标题。
【40题详解】
本段主旨是“Take care of your health.(关注健康。)”,空后“Eat balanced meals, get enough sleep, and make time for exercise.( 均衡饮食、保证充足睡眠,并抽出时间锻炼身体。)” E 选项“High school can be stressful, so don’t forget to take care of yourself.(高中可能压力很大,别忘了照顾好自己。)”

25. What can we say about the author’s parents?
A. They fully understood the author’s situation. B. They had great expectations of the author.
