I took a deep breath and began. With my voice shaking,I spoke of my inconsiderate behaviour, deep regret and the upsetting result without exposing Judy's name. After finishing my speech, with sweat flowing down my face, I didn’t dare to expect my classmates’ response, nervously rubbing my hands. To my surprise, they applauded for my sincerity. Even Mr. Thomas praised my courage to apologize publicly. Back to my seat, I stole a look at Judy and amazingly found she was also looking at me with tears. That day marked a turning point. Although Judy and I never directly talked about that unpleasant event, our interactions slowly returned to normal. We laughed and chatted again, as if silent forgiveness had been granted. I was never proud of my bravery in that speech class. Instead, I knew it was an experience to be modestly thankful for. Here is the lesson I have carried close to my heart ever since: True friendships deserve the respect of honest words and open hearts. 21. A。 根据 Shakespeare’ s Birthplace 部分中的“Explore his father’ s glove-making workshop and catch our local actors bringing Shakespeare's works to life.(探索他父亲的制手套工坊,并观看本地演员将莎士比亚的作品演绎得活灵活现。)” 根据 Hall’ s Croft 部分中的“Relax in the beautiful gardens and breathe in the fragrant herbs as used by Dr. Hall in his treatments.(在美丽的花园里放松,呼吸霍尔医生在治疗中使用的芳香草药。)” 根据 Shakespeare’ s New Place 部分中的“Learn about the part he played in the history of the house and the town. Upstairs, dressing up, costumes, and animations immerse you completely in Shakespeare’s family life.(了解他在故居和城镇历史中所扮演的角色。楼上,通过换装、服饰和动画演示,让你完全沉浸在莎士比亚的家庭生活中。)”可知,在莎士比亚的新居可体验莎士比亚的家庭生活,故选D。 B篇主题:人与自我——生活 本文是记叙文。作者讲述了自己在马来西亚的沙巴(Sabah)参加Ocean Walk活动的经历,生动描写了这一安全、震撼又充满乐趣的海底体验。 24. A。 The best part about this activity was that no previous knowledge was required ... let alone have a diving licence可知,这项活动最吸引人的地方在于它不需要专业知识,十岁以上的任何人都可以参加,甚至不需要会游泳,更不用说持有潜水许可证了。 The water was quite cold, but the sight we were welcomed with was enough to take our mind off the cold or any other worries we might have可知,海水很冷,但水下的美景足以让作者忘记冰冷和其他烦恼。 I felt like I was in a National Geographic magazine描写的是身临其境的震撼感,而非“想起照片”;D项(它不如预期的那样令人印象深刻)错误,该项与第三段中的The visibility was better than I expected意思相悖。 26. D。 Lucky for us, there were divers all around us documenting this once-in-a-lifetime experience with action cameras, and the pictures and videos they took were given to us on a CD at the end of the activity可知,潜水员用运动相机记录下这一千载难逢的经历,并在活动结束时将影像资料赠送给游客。 根据第二段中的“To do that, the team designed the small, sticker-like device made from thin layers of flexible metals, folded and cut into wave-like shapes.(为了做到这一点,研究小组设计了这种小型的、类似贴纸的设备,它由多层柔性金属薄片制成,被折叠并切割成波浪形。)” 29. A。 根据第三段中的“Once placed on the skin, the sensors check for changes in skin temperature, heart rate, humidity(as expressed through sweat), and blood oxygen levels.[一旦贴在皮肤上,传感器就会检测皮肤温度、心率、湿度(通过汗液表达)和血氧水平的变化。]” 根据第四段中的“The device matched these expressions with 92.28% accuracy(精准性).More importantly, it also found the emotional responses with 88.83% accuracy when people watched the videos with no expressions on their faces.(该设备对这些表情的匹配准确率达到了 92.28%。更重要的是,当人们面无表情地观看视频时,它也能以 88.83%的准确率发现情绪反应。)”可推知,实验结果显示了可靠的结果,故选C。 31. B。主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“Researchers from Penn State University believe they have developed a flexible, sticker-like wearable device able to understand even the most advanced poker face(扑克脸),according to the finding published last month in the journal Nano Letters.(宾夕法尼亚州立大学的研究人员相信,他们已经开发出一种灵活的、类似贴纸的可穿戴设备,这个设备甚至能够理解极致扑克脸,这一发现发表在上个月的《纳米快报》杂志上。)” 由此可知,B选项“A sticker: to read hidden emotions(一种贴片:读懂隐藏的情绪)”适合作为标题,故选 B。 You might think that drivers are likely to lose their jobs. In fact, the rise of autonomy has played out in two different ways. First, it has raised overall taxi demand in San Francisco, limiting job losses可知,作者认为,自动驾驶出租车的兴起并未像人们预期的那样导致出租车司机失业,反而通过扩大市场需求减缓了相关岗位的流失。 According to official data, in 2024, the number of people in San Francisco working for “taxi service” companies grew by 7% ... about the same as last year以及David Risher的预测As self‑driving cars enter the marketplace, they will actually expand the market可知,官方数据显示,出租车行业从业人数和行业总薪酬都有所增长,自动驾驶出租车进入市场后整体出租车市场需求扩大,这与Risher的预测相符。 34. D。 The extra riders come from different places点明段落主旨,随后介绍了两种乘客来源:一是有人专门前往旧金山乘坐Waymo的自动驾驶出租车;二是当地居民减少私家车使用,转而选择无需尬聊的自动驾驶出租车。 Waymos are comfortable ... but they are perhaps 20%-40% more expensive ... They are also slow可知,自动驾驶出租车存在价格高、速度慢的缺陷;划线部分后的by, for example, cutting prices则举例说明了可能的改进方式。 41. A。 I was determined to live the travel-focused life I envied和第二段中的Could I save enough money? I learned by chance that there was a great need for English teachers abroad可知,作者偶然得知国外英语教师的需求量很大,这个信息恰好给了他实现旅行生活的办法。 After my first trip to Mexico, I was determined to live the travel‑focused life I envied和本句中的Mexico had left me可知,墨西哥之旅后,作者萌生了探索拉丁美洲的强烈愿望。 The protected rainforests and tropical beaches there all appealed to me可知,哥斯达黎加的受保护的雨林和热带海滩都非常吸引作者,这说明作者最终选定了哥斯达黎加。 So, I moved to Costa Rica也是提示。 45. A。 Would I really go through with it? Could I save enough money? hesitation(犹豫)说明作者被录取后内心产生迟疑,符合语境。set in到来,开始;go through with完成艰难(或令人不快)的事。 46. C。 unexpected(出乎意料的)契合“电话来得突然”的语境。A项 crazy(不理智的,疯狂的)、B项 confusing(令人困惑的)、D项 unproven(未被证实的)均不符合“电话在意料之外”的逻辑。 47. B。 I can't remember exactly how the ... started, but I remember him saying可知,作者记得学生说的话,这说明他在和以前的学生交谈,只是记不清通话是如何开始的。 48. D。 I was determined to live the travel‑focused life和本句中的see the world可知,作者一直有旅行的想法,墨西哥之旅让他坚定了决心。 travel(旅行)和see the world 形成并列呼应,符合语境。 49. B。 A项protected(保护)、C项praised(表扬)、D项 mentioned(提及)均无法体现“学生的话推动作者行动”的作用。 50. C。 In just four weeks of hard work和下段中的this first stepping stone(这第一个垫脚石)可知,作者经过四周的努力学习,顺利拿到了TEFL证书。this first stepping stone指代作者通过努力获得TEFL证书这一初步成就。completed(完成,取得)契合“努力后获得证书”的语境。 51. A。 52. B。本空是对this first stepping stone概括。 I'm excited for the ... ahead: studying Spanish abroad, volunteering my English skills for food and shelter, or taking a formal teaching job可知,作者对未来充满期待,有很多事情可以做,故推断,取得TEFL证书并不是终点。 54. A。 possibilities(可能)契合“未来的多种选择”的语境。 55. D。根据本句中的that my year in Latin America will influence my outlook on life and all things related to travel,并结合全文作者从犹豫到行动并取得进展的过程可知,作者坚信自己在拉丁美洲的这一年将会影响他对生活以及所有与旅行相关的事情的看法。 56. currently 57. a 58. featuring 59. as 60. has caught 61. who 62. combination 63. meaningful 64. remarks 65. shared Dear Leo , I ' m writing to share with you a harvesting activity on our campus farm last Friday. Is it from Mario’s bakery? W: Actually, I made it. I learned it from my dad, and he got the recipe from Mario, the owner of the bakery. 2. W: I watched a documentary about Chinese martial arts yesterday. It was fascinating. You should check it out. M: Documentaries? Hmm. I usually find them boring. I prefer comedies. 3. W: Wait, I need to go back home to change into a formal dress. M: Why? It’s just a gathering for family and friends. So, what you’re wearing is fine and we need to hurry, or we’ll be late. W: Okay, let’s go to the party directly. 4. M: Where will the ballet performance be put on? W: It was supposed to be held in the theater, but it’s been moved to the concert hall because a face changing opera will be on in the theater at that time. 5. M: I see you work out in this gym regularly. Do you live nearby? W: Yes, only a 10-minute walk from my apartment. I like its large space, but it would be better if there were more updated equipment. M: Lisa, could you do me a favor? W: Sure. Mr. Brown, how can I help you? M: I need some special gift recommendations. My wife’s 60th birthday is coming up. W: Happy birthday to Mrs. Brown and does she have any hobbies? M: Yes, she’s really into gardening. She spends hours every day tending to her roses and vegetables. W: Then why not get her a new set of gardening tools? M: I already bought her one last birthday. W: Absolutely. The cinema even prepared water and special popcorn for the dogs. My neighbor took her dog and she shared photos with me. I can see they had a great time. M: I bet. But were the dogs quiet during the movie? I can’t imagine a cinema full of barking dogs. W: Surprisingly, most of them were well behaved. The movie seemed to attract them. Only one small dog made a little sound at the most exciting part. M: That makes sense. The special screening sounds more fun. I hope our city can hold such kind of pet-friendly activities more. W: Hello. M: Hi, Susan, this is Tom. I heard the city museum is holding a traditional Chinese art exhibition. Would you like to go with me? W: Sure, I’ve been looking forward to seeing some paper-cut works. M: Awesome, I’ll book the tickets online. M: It’s open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day except Mondays. And this Sunday is the last day, so we’d better go this weekend. W: How about Sunday morning? I have a piano lesson on Saturday afternoon. M: Okay, let’s meet at the museum gate at 9 o’clock. W: Oh, Max, look at your fridge. It is filled with ready meals. No fresh food at all. M: Yeah, I know. I’ve been really busy with my new project, working overtime almost every day. Ready meals are so convenient. Just heat them up and dinner’s ready. W: I understand, but most pre-made dishes may have too much salt and fat. M: Don’t worry, mom, I’ve checked the labels carefully. These are low-salt and low-fat. W: That’s a relief, but nothing beats homemade food. It keeps fresh flavors and provides health benefits. M: Totally. I’ve been eager for your tomato and egg noodles. W: Well, I’m free this Sunday. How about if I come over with fresh eggs and tomatoes and we cook together? M: That sounds wonderful. I’ll clear my schedule. B On my recent trip to Sabah, Malaysia with the Earth Travel team, the activity I was most looking forward to was the Ocean Walk. I was beyond excited for the fifteen-minute walk! The best part about this activity was that no previous knowledge was required, anyone from the age of ten upwards could take part and you didn't even need to know how to swim, let alone have a diving license. There were people in our group who had had bad experiences with water in the past, but they were relieved and reassured(放心的)after the guide‘s explanation. As for me, I couldn’t wait any longer-I was ready to go! The water was quite cold, but the sight we were welcomed with was enough to take our mind off the cold or any other worries we might have. As I looked around, I couldn't believe my eyes. The visibility was better than I expected and I felt like I was in a National Geographic magazine! There were fishes of all shapes, sizes and colours swimming all around me; I had to take a minute to take it all in. A few minutes into the Ocean Walk, we saw the most beautiful fish in all the colours of the rainbow and I could have spent the whole day there admiring their beauty. Lucky for us, there were divers all around us documenting this once-in-a-lifetime experience with action cameras, and the pictures and videos they took were given to us on a CD at the end of the activity. As our fifteen minutes came to an end, I could say that among all the amazing activities we took part in during our trip, this was my favourite. I was blown away by how interactive the whole experience was and the guides truly did an amazing job making us feel completely at ease. 24.Why did the Ocean Walk strongly appeal to the author? A. It was beginner-friendly. B. It lasted for a short time. C. It had experienced guides. D. It was designed for his age. 25.How did the author feel about the underwater scenery? A. It inspired him to study the ocean. B. It made him forget all his worries. C. It reminded him of a magazine photo. D. It was less impressive than expected. 26. What did the divers do for the tourists? A. They drove the fishes to the tourists. B. They guided the tourists underwater. C. They gave the tourists diving lessons. D. They recorded the tourists' experience. 27.Why does the author write the text? A. To promote a tourist spot. B. To compare underwater activities. C. To share his personal story. D. To call for environmental protection. C Researchers from Penn State University believe they have developed a flexible, ticker-like wearable device able to understand even the most advanced poker face(扑克脸), according to the finding published last month in the journal Nano Letters. The wearable device analyzes the tiny changes in physical responses to predict how a person is feeling. The researchers set out to create a“multi-modal sensing” device that collected several physical signals at the same time without interference(干扰). To do that, the team designed the small, sticker-like device made from thin layers of flexible metals, folded and cut into wave-like shapes. Its flexible structure allows it to continue collecting real-time data even when bent, stretched, or pulled. A rechargeable battery powers the device. Once placed on the skin, the sensors check for changes in skin temperature, heart rate, humidity (as expressed through sweat), and blood oxygen levels. Each of these signals can be linked to emotions. While each signal alone gives limited information, the researchers say measuring them all together in real time gives a much clearer picture of how a person feels. This stream of data is changed into digital signals and sent to a phone or a computer. Then, a special computer program analyzes the data to guess what emotion the person is experiencing. In an experiment with eight volunteers, people watched a series of videos that caused feelings while wearing the sticker. They were instructed to make facial expressions for emotions like happiness, fear, sadness, and anger. The device matched these expressions with 92.28% accuracy(精 准 性 ). More importantly, it also found the emotional responses with 88.83% accuracy when people watched the videos with no expressions on their faces. Though the sticker is still in the testing stages, researchers believe it could one day be a particularly useful tool to help clinicians better understand the emotional state of non-verbal(无法用语言交流的) patients. Early indications of mental health issues, which might otherwise go unnoticed, could be treated professionally at an early stage before those situations worsen. 28. What is a feature of the device? A. It is poker-sized. B. It is plastic-coated. C. It is layer-structured. D. It is solar-powered. 29. What is paragraph 3 mainly about regarding the device? A. How it functions. B. What it changes. C. How it is developed. D. What it is used for. 30. What do we know about the experiment? A. It analyzed oral responses. B. It included sufficient subjects. C. It showed trustworthy results. D. It proved effective in medicine. 31. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. A device: to analyze fitness data B. A sticker: to read hidden emotions C. A model: to replace human doctors D. A sensor: to track facial expressions D Autonomous taxis are taking over San Francisco. Waymo, which launched the service only in 2023, may now have over a fifth of the city's ride-share market. The rise of robotaxis raises a question: when tech automates a profession, what happens to human workers? You might think that drivers are likely to lose their jobs. In fact, the rise of autonomy has played out in two different ways. First, it has raised overall taxi demand in San Francisco, limiting job losses. Second, it has targeted a profitable part of the market, attracting customers who want something new and are willing to pay a bit more for it. Take the size of the market first. According to official data, in 2024, the number of people in San Francisco working for “taxi service” companies grew by 7% compared to 2023, and total pay in the industry rose by 14%. Figures from the city indicate the number of regular taxi trips is about the same as last year. It can still be hard to find a yellow taxi at peak times. “As self-driving cars enter the marketplace, they will actually expand the market, “David Risher, chief executive of Lyft, a human-powered taxi company, has predicted. The extra riders come from different places. Waymo claims that people visit San Francisco to take its taxis. More probably, residents are using private cars less. When the choice was a Lyft or an Uber, people may have preferred to drive themselves, because the risk of having to get into an awkward conversation was too great. In a driverless taxi you can sit in silence. Since Waymo's launch, the number of private cars, adjusted for population, has fallen. Now, overall spending on taxis appears to be growing especially quickly compared with that in other cities. Autonomous taxis are still a long way from being a mass-market product. Waymos are comfortable and generally clean, but they are perhaps 20%-40% more expensive than a Lyft or an Uber. They are also slow; you cannot tell a robot to“step on it!” Over time, robotaxi companies may iron out these flaws by, for example, cutting prices, but do not expect autonomous taxis to take over the market soon, in San Francisco or anywhere else. 32. How does the author look at the growth of robotaxis in San Francisco? A. It changes the way taxi drivers work. B. It increases customers' transport costs. C. It doesn't hurt taxi drivers as expected. D. It doesn't attract customers as predicted. 33. What can we say about Risher's prediction? A. It reflects his career goal clearly. B. It agrees with market observations. C. It is based on his company's business. D. It focuses on innovative car technology. 34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. Ways Waymo uses to attract riders. B. The impact of Waymo on private car sales. C. The competition among leading taxi companies. D. Reasons for the expansion of the robotaxi market. 35. What do the underlined words “iron out these flaws" in the last paragraph mean? A. Meet these standards. B. Beat these companies. C. Solve these problems. D. Follow these instructions. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You'd think confident people have it all together. They raise their hands without hesitation. They don't feel upset about a C. 36 But here's what most students get wrong:confidence isn't about never slipping up.It's about being perfectly okay with looking foolish every now and then. Peer pressure, though, has a nasty way of messing with your head. When everyone around you seems to sail through life without a flaw(瑕疵),you start burying your own mistakes. You bite your tongue instead of guessing an answer. You rewrite the same sentence five times, chasing some impossible standard. 37 Here's the uncomfortable truth. Those “perfect” friends you're quietly comparing yourself to trip over their own feet too. They' ve raised their hand and given the wrong answer. They' ve done embarrassing things more times than they'd like to admit. 38 They just refuse to let those moments shut them down. 39 Think back to the last time someone in class gave an answer that was completely off and just shrugged it off with a smile.Didn't you respect them a little more for that? That's the real stuff.Confidence isn't about being flawless. It's about being brave enough to look foolish and stay in the game. So before you let peer pressure push you down the path of perfectionism, ask yourself a simple question: 40 Probably not.And if they do? That's not your burden to carry. It's a reflection of their own doubts, their own insecurities, not a judgment on your worth. So stop trying to be perfect. You are never meant to be. A.Does anyone actually expect you to be perfect? B.They make friends easily and never seem worried. C.The difference is that they don't keep thinking about it. D.Who is supporting you all the time through ups and downs? E.Confidence is being brave enough to show your flaws in public. F.The only way to never look foolish is to never try anything new. G.Before you know it,peer pressure has turned you into a perfectionist. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 After my first trip to Mexico, I was determined to live the travel-focused life I envied(羡慕). In a moment of thoughtlessness, I responded, “I only hung out with Judy because she asked me and I wasn't keen on being friends with her. She was rather dull. ” The unkind words just escaped my lips before I could catch them, like marbles rolling off a table. Little did I know, Judy had been just around the corner somehow. When I glanced up, Judy appeared right in front of me, having accidentally overheard everything. All the color faded from her face. Her eyes widening with shock, without a word, she rushed off. Alice and I were left standing there, exchanging a look of shame and discomfort. I knew I should run after Judy and apologize, but with my mind blank, I was frozen. Alice’s face turned red, too. We walked home in silence, each step heavier than the last. The following days were filled with awkwardness. I felt terrible for what I'd said and was dying to mend our friendship. An honest apology was desperately needed. But what should I say? Unintentional as I was, I indeed hurt Judy's feelings. Every time I saw Judy in the halls or during classes, I'd quickly look away. Fate threw me a curve ball in our speech class. On Tuesday, Mr. Thomas announced that we would be giving improvised(即兴的)speeches. He had written our topics on slips of paper and put them into a secret jar. Each of us was asked to blindly choose one without knowing what it would be about. I couldn't say I was not nervous. As I reached into the jar of topics, my fingers closed around the slip that read,“Share your most embarrassing moment.” My heart pounded like a drum roll in my chest. It was as if the universe had come my way to give me a chance. C Researchers from Penn State University believe they have developed a 高二英语学科试卷第4页(共10页) flexible,ticker-like wearable device able to understand even the most advanced poker face(扑克脸),according to the finding published last month in the journal Nano Letters. The wearable device analyzes the tiny changes in physical responses to predict how a person is feeling. The researchers set out to create amulti-modal sensing"device that collected several physical signals at the same time without interference().To do that, the team designed the small,sticker-like device made from thin layers of flexible metals, folded and cut into wave-like shapes. Its fexible structure allows it to continue collecting real-time data even when bent, stretched,or pulled.A rechargeable battery powers the device. Once placed on the skin, the sensors check for changes in skin temperature, heart rate, humidity (as expressed through sweat),and blood oxygen levels. Each of these signals can be linked to emotions. While each signal alone gives limited information, the researchers say measuring them all together in real time gives a much clearer picture of how a person feels. This stream of data is changed into digital signals and sent to a phone or a computer. Then,a special computer program analyzes the data to guess what emotion the person is experiencing. In an experiment with eight volunteers, people watched a series of videos that caused feelings while wearing the sticker. They were instructed to make facial expressions for emotions like happiness, fear, sadness, and anger. The device matched these expressions with 92.28%accuracy()More importantly, it also found the emotional responses with 88.83%accuracy when people watched the videos with no expressions on their faces. Though the sticker is still in the testing stages, researchers believe it could one day be a particularly useful tool to help clinicians better understand the emotional state of non-verbal(无法用语言交流的)patients.Early indications of mental health issues, which might otherwise go unnoticed, could be treated professionally at an early stage before those situations worsen. 28.What is a feature of the device? A.It is poker-sized. B.It is plastic-coated. C.It is layer-structured D.It is solar-powered. 29.What is paragraph 3 mainly about regarding the device? A.How it functions. B.What it changes. C.How it is developed. D.What it is used for. 30.What do we know about the experiment? A.It analyzed oral responses B.It included sufficient subjects C.It showed trustworthy results. The rise of robotaxis raises a question:when tech automates a profession, what happens to human workers? You might think that drivers are likely to lose their jobs.In fact, the rise of autonomy has played out in two different ways.First, it has raised overall taxi demand in San Francisco, limiting job losses.Second,it has targeted a profitable part of the market, attracting customers who want something new and are willing to pay a bit more for it. Take the size of the market first.According to official data,in 2024,the number of people in San Francisco working for "taxi service"companies grew by 7%compared to 2023,and total pay in the industry rose by 14%.Figures from the city indicate the number of regular taxi trips is about the same as last year.It can still be hard to find a yellow taxi at peak times."As self-driving cars enter the marketplace, they will actually expand the market,"David Risher, chief executive of Lyft,a human-powered taxi company, has predicted. The extra niders come from different places.Waymo claims that people visit San Francisco to take its taxis.More probably, residents are using private cars less. When the choice was a Lyft or an Uber, people may have preferred to drive themselves, because the risk of having to get into an awkward conversation was too great. In a driverless taxi you can sit in silence.Since Waymo's launch, the number of private cars, adjusted for population, has fallen. Now,overall spending on taxis appears to be growing especially quickly compared with that in other cities. Autonomous taxis are still a long way from being a mass-market product. Waymos are comfortable and generally clean, but they are perhaps 20%-40%more expensive than a Lyft or an Uber. They are also slow;you cannot tell a robot to step on it!"Over time, robotaxi companies may iron out these flaws by,for example, cutting prices, but do not expect autonomous taxis to take over the market soon,in San Francisco or anywhere else. 32.How does the author look at the growth of robotaxis in San Francisco? A.It changes the way taxi drivers work. B.It increases customers'transport costs C.It doesn't hurt taxi drivers as expected. D.It doesn't attract customers as predicted. 高二英语学科试卷第6页(共10页) 33.What can we say about Risher's prediction? A.It reflects his career goal clearly B.It agrees with market observations C.It is based on his company's business D.It focuses on innovative car technology. 34.What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A.Ways Waymo uses to attract iders. B.The impact of Waymo on private car sales C.The competition among leading taxi companes. D.Reasons for the expansion of the robotaxi market. 35.What do the underlined words "iron out these flaws"in the last paragraph mean? A.Meet these standards. B.Beat these companies. Little did I know,Judy had been just around the corner somehow. When I glanced up,Judy appeared right in front of me,having accidentally overheard everything. All the color faded from her face. Her eyes widening with shock, without a word, she rushed off.Alice and I were left standing there, exchanging a look of shame and discomfort.I knew I should run after Judy and apologize, but with my mind blank,I was frozen.Alice's face turned red, too. We walked home in silence, each step heavier than the last. The following days were filled with awkwardness.I felt terrible for what I'd said and was dying to mend our fiiendship. An honest apology was desperately needed. But what should I say?Unintentional as I was,I indeed hurt Judy's feelings.Every time I saw Judy in the halls or during classes,I'd quickly look away. Fate threw me a curve ball in our speech class. On Tuesday,Mr.Thomas announced that we would be giving improvised()speeches.He had written our topics on slips of paper and put them into a secret jar. Each of us was asked to blindly choose one without knowing what it would be about.I couldn't say I was not nervous. As I reached into the jar of topics,my fingers closed around the slip that read,"Share your most embarrassing moment."My heart pounded like a drum roll in my chest. It was as if the universe had come my way to give me a chance. Para.1:Knowing what I had to say,I calmed myself down and walked to the platform Para.2:That day marked a turning point. 高二英语学科试卷第10页(共10页)
