Unit 2 Helping at Home Lesson 3 (Speed Up: Story Time) I. Teaching Aims 1. To understand the story "The family's sunshine" and know who Yao Qinwen (Wenwen) is and what she does for her family. 2. To learn and use key phrases: take care of, make the bed, clean the room, wash the dishes, the sunshine of the family. 3. To answer questions about the story and complete the fill-in-the-blank exercise. 4. To work in groups to act out the story and develop cooperative spirit. 5. To realise the value of helping at home and develop a sense of responsibility. II. Key and Difficult Points Key points: (1) Understanding the story and answering "Who does Yao Qinwen help?" (2) Mastering the phrases: take care of, make the bed, clean the room, wash the dishes. (3) Using "May I help you...?" and "Can I...?" to offer help. Difficult points: (1) Understanding the meaning of "She is the sunshine of our family" and "I'm happy to warm up my family." (2) Completing the read-and-write exercise with correct phrases. III. Teaching Tools Textbook (pp.18-19), blackboard and chalk, PPT (optional), word cards (take care of, make the bed, clean the room, wash the dishes), audio recording of the story, picture cards of family members doing chores. IV. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Lead-in (5 mins) Show a picture of a happy family. Ask: "Do you help at home? What do you do?" Let students share briefly. Then introduce: "Today we'll read a story about a girl called Yao Qinwen. She helps her family a lot." [Purpose: Activate students' prior knowledge about helping at home and lead them into the topic naturally.] Step 2 Pre-reading (5 mins) Show the title "The family's sunshine" on the blackboard. Ask: "What does 'sunshine' mean? Why is Wenwen called the sunshine?" Let students guess. Then show the pictures on p.18 and ask students to look and say what they see (Dad is ill, Grandma is old, Mum is busy). [Purpose: Build curiosity and prepare students for reading by predicting from the title and pictures.] Step 3 While-reading (15 mins) Task 1 — Read and answer (first reading): Play the audio or read the story aloud. Ask students to read silently and answer: "Who does Yao Qinwen help?" (She helps her dad, her grandma and her mum.) Task 2 — Read again and learn phrases (second reading): Read paragraph by paragraph. Teach key phrases through context: "I take care of Dad" → show picture of making the bed → teach "make the bed"; "Can I make the bed for you, Dad?" → drill the phrase; similarly teach "clean the room" and "wash the dishes". Write the phrases on the blackboard. Task 3 — Read and write (third reading): Show the exercise on p.19. Let students read the story a third time and fill in the blanks: "She ___ for her dad. She ___ for Grandma. She also helps her mum ___." Check answers together: takes care, takes care, wash the dishes. [Purpose: Three-layer reading helps students understand the story step by step. Learning phrases in context makes them easier to remember.] Step 4 Post-reading (10 mins) Task 1 — Group work: Divide students into groups of four. Assign roles (narrator, Dad, Grandma, Mum/Wenwen). Give them 3 minutes to practise. Then invite 2-3 groups to act out the story in front of the class. Task 2 — Discuss: Ask "Why is Wenwen the sunshine of her family?" Let students say one sentence. Praise their answers. [Purpose: Acting out the story helps students use the language in a real situation. The discussion deepens their understanding of the story's theme.] Step 5 Summary and Homework (5 mins) Summary: Point to the blackboard. Review the four phrases and the key sentences. Say together: "Wenwen is helpful. She is the sunshine of her family." Homework: (1) Read the story to your parents. (2) Draw a picture of yourself helping at home and write one sentence: "I help my mum/dad/grandma ___." [Purpose: Summary helps students review what they have learned. "She is the sunshine of our family." 六、教学反思 本课通过故事"The family's sunshine"引导学生学习家务相关表达。整体教学流程较为顺畅，学生能理解故事大意并掌握take care of、make the bed等核心短语。但在读后表演环节，部分后进生对"May I help you...?"句型的运用不够熟练，角色分配后不敢开口，今后可增加句型提示卡，并安排同桌先互练再小组展示，降低学生开口压力。另外，"sunshine""warm up"等比喻性表达理解有难度，下次可配合图片直观解释，帮助学生更好感悟故事主题。 学科网（北京）股份有限公司 $
