For many years, Rongjiang in Guizhou was a quiet county that few people outside knew about. Most families lived on farming, and their life was not easy. The roads were rough and narrow, so it took a long time to travel to the nearest city. There were few hotels or restaurants, and almost no visitors came to the area.
Young people could hardly find good jobs, so many of them left home to work in big cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The old people stayed behind, looking after the children and the fields. In the evening, the village was quiet and dark. The county seemed to be forgotten by the outside world.
Everything began to change in 2023. A village football league, later known as “Village Super League” (村超), was organized by the local people themselves. The players were local farmers, drivers, and shop owners. The matches were free to watch, and the prize for the winning team was a pig or a cow. To everyone’s surprise, videos of the matches spread quickly online. Almost everyone heard the league over night.
Thanks to the huge attention, the local government improved the roads and built new hotels. Many young people who had left decided to return home. Lin Wei, a former factory worker in Guangzhou, came back to open a small restaurant near the football field. “I never thought my hometown could become so popular,” he said. “Now I earn more than before, and I can stay with my family.” Other villagers sell local food and handicrafts to the visitors. The county has also built a new library and a sports center, and children now have a safe place to play after school.
A reporter who visited Rongjiang said, “It is glad to see how local people have changed this place. The villagers’ lives have greatly improved.” The story of Rongjiang shows that the local people’s passion about sports make there a better place .
26. What was Rongjiang like before 2023?
A. It had many hotels and restaurants. B. It had a famous football league.
C. It had rough roads and few visitors. D. It had a new library and sports center.
27. Why did many young people leave Rongjiang in the past?
A. Because they wanted to watch football matches.
B. Because they could hardly find good jobs.
C. Because the local government asked them to leave.
D. Because they wanted to open restaurants in cities.
28. Why did the Village Super League become famous quickly?
A. Because famous football stars played in it.
B. Because the government spent a lot of money on it.
C. Because videos of the matches spread widely online.
D. Because the prize for the winning team was very expensive.
29. What can we learn about Lin Wei from the passage?
A. He used to work in a factory in Guangzhou.
B. He organized the Village Super League.
C. He earns less money now than before.
D. He left Rongjiang after 2023.
30. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Football is the most popular sport in Guizhou.
B. Village sports events have brought good changes to Rongjiang.
C. Young people in Guizhou prefer to work in big cities.
D. The government should build more libraries in villages.

Over the years, great changes have taken place in Siyang, a shining pearl (明珠) in northern Jiangsu. Today, it is known as a National Garden County (县) and is often called “the most beautiful county along the Grand Canal (大运河)”.
In the past, the environment was different. The streets were often narrow and dirty, and there was rubbish in many places. However, there were also large open spaces. Life was simpler. People lived in small, old houses. They played cards or listened to the radio in their free time. At that time, most people walked or rode bicycles.
Now, Siyang looks very different. The streets are wide and clean, with green belts on both sides. Many tall buildings have appeared in those once-open spaces. People’s lives have improved. Many people now live in new flats. Travelling is more convenient. People take buses or taxis, and they can take a high-speed train to travel to big cities quickly. Many families have their own cars.
These changes are not only about buildings and roads. Siyang is also known as the “Hometown of Chinese Poplar Trees (杨树)”. It has many green areas, making the city very beautiful. The population in Siyang has grown, with about 830,600 people now living there.
People in Siyang are enjoying a more comfortable life. The changes show how the county is developing while trying to keep its natural beauty.
